STRENGTHS
  • Supermaneuverability - Designed with extreme maneuverability as a primary objective, the Ballerina is a small and agile craft which is capable of executing dazzling maneuvers at intense speed. This feature is especially beneficial during dogfights, allowing the Ballerina to dance around enemy craft so as to quickly obtain a favorable position in a dogfight.
  • Stealth - The Ballerina has a full suite of stealth systems, allowing it to maintain a virtually invisible sensor profile during most operating conditions, with more limited stealth capabilities during weapon discharges.
  • Fast Guns - With four medium small craft-grade cannons and a pair of missile launchers with a total capacity of twelve warheads, the Ballerina has a respectable, though not excessive armament. As an extra enhancement, the Ballerina's missiles are highly-resistant to missile deactivation transmitters and sensor inverters due to the incorporation of the FAE/S-07 Offensive Retention System, giving them a better chance of breaching enemy defenses and reaching their target.
  • The Five Senses - The Ballerina has powerful, advanced sensors that give it the capability to sniff out and potentially target stealthed starships.
  • Slippery - Equipped with a FAE/C-01 Multiphase Tensor Element, the Ballerina can resist predator interdiction fields and tractor beams to a very convincing degree. For a small interceptor which depends on its speed and agility for survival, the ability to counter technologies capable of slowing it down was considered to be paramount.
WEAKNESSES
  • SLAM - Usage of the Ballerina's SLAM comes at the expense of its weapons. In addition, extended use of the system will drain power faster than it can be replenished, forcing the pilot to divert power from other systems, such as shields and countermeasures, in order to maintain it over long periods. The SLAM will also nullify most of the Ballerina's stealth capabilities.
  • Mechu-deru - An unspoken weakness of any complicated and advanced technology, the Ballerina is vulnerable to the dark sorceries of Mechu-deru and other technology-corrupting powers. As such, a skilled practitioner of such arts could feasibly disable the Ballerina, provided that they have a direct line of sight to the craft.
  • Weak Shields - With shields rated at half the strength of those of a T65 X-Wing, the Ballerina is less capable of standing up to fire than its competition, relying on speed and evasion to carry an engagement.
  • Outnumbered - The Ballerina is a rare, advanced craft and is never fielded in large quantities.
  • Ordnance - While the Ballerina isn't a missile gunship, it does carry ordnance, meaning that there is a small, not-insignificant chance that a penetrating shot could detonate a warhead and cause the craft to explode.
DESCRIPTION
The predecessor of the FAE/eI-01, the Phase I "Ballerina" Star Interceptor, started life as an advanced interceptor for select pilots in the Armada of the Agents of Chaos. Intended for interception, space (and air) superiority duties, and air-to-air operations, the Ballerina was considered a force to be reckoned with in a dogfight, representing the zenith of space interceptor design, for its time. However, with the development of the FAE/eI-01, the Phase I variants were retired and dismantled. For a time, development of the FAE/eI-01 stalled, especially as First United Astral Engineering worked to design the new systems, suites, and technologies which it planned for the new interceptor. Nevertheless, after many delays and extensive testing work with Bella Bella , the FAE/eI-01 saw the light of day and was approved for production at an extremely limited scale.

The Ballerina's most prominent features include supermaneuverability, stealth, a powerful sensor suite, and a universal missile/warhead launcher which is compatible with a large variety of warheads. Because of these features and yet more, the designers remain optimistic about the Ballerina's performance, with hopes that it will pave the way for other small craft designs utilizing First United Astral Engineering's stable of new technologies at full scale production.
