SPECIAL FEATURES
STRENGTHS
  • Versatility - A hybrid ion/maser/particle/incendiary scattercannon, the FAE/SW-10 can be switched on the fly from one firing module to the other. A pilot or gunner might drain a target’s shields with the ionized mode, before finishing it off with particle beams. Another tactic, especially with multiple cannons, is to set each of them to different modules. A clever user might set one cannon to the ionized module and another to the particle beam module, resulting in a combined plasma-ionic effect that might be difficult to defend against.
  • Underwater Weapon - The FAE/SW-10 is capable of firing and operating underwater.
  • Surprise Boom - Due to its fast-tracking capabilities, the FAE/SW-10 makes an excellent anti-fighter close-in defense weapon. The scattercannon can give hostile fighters that are “skimming” along the surface of a capital ship in order to evade more conventional point-defense weapons quite a nasty surprise in the form of a powerful vehicle-grade shotgun blast. However, it should be noted that the FAE/SW-10’s range makes it a poor option for use against incoming missiles.
  • High Power - The FAE/SW-10 is a hard-hitting, powerful weapon, its power quotient sitting close to the limit of what a cannon of its size and class can support. At close ranges when deployed against small craft and vehicles it has moderate overkill potential, though that is not to say that such targets would ever be unable to withstand a direct blast.
  • Low Recoil - The FAE/SW-10 is very easy on its frame and the host platform, since it has very low recoil and generates only a small amount of heat per shot.
WEAKNESSES
  • Surged - EMP and Ion discharges with a large enough power quotient and a close enough proximity can overload the FAE/SW-10’s system, rendering it unable to fire for some time, especially if the host vehicle lacks adequate EMP/Ion defenses.
  • Shotgun - While it almost goes without saying, the FAE/SW-10 is for all intents and purposes a light vehicle-grade energy shotgun cannon. As such, it is a close range weapon. Pilots and gunners are compelled to close with a target in order to get the most out of it. Unfortunately, such tactics can often leave them exposed to incoming fire.
  • Chain Reaction - In the event that the weapon sustains damage to the power systems or the Ethaerium gas cell, a fantastic explosion will likely ensue that has a very high chance of outright crippling the host vehicle. While the FAE/SW-10 has safety systems that work to prevent total annihilation from such an event, in the heat of battle, even these measures can fail.
DESCRIPTION
The FAE/SW-10 Hybrid Scattercannon is the medium-sized variant of First United Astral Engineering’s line of vehicle and fighter-grade scattercannons, all of which essentially function as laser cannon-grade energy shotguns. Due to the slightly increased size of the FAE/SW-10 over the FAE/SW-09, it has more room for additional support components. As such, the FAE/SW-10 has more efficient cooling systems and better recoil management than its lighter variant, though the weapon still suffers when it comes to capacity, demanding frequent reloads, especially in intense combat conditions. All in all, the FAE/SW-10 is the rough equivalent of a medium laser cannon. However, because of the fact that the weapon is a scattercannon, it is inherently less versatile, being weak at long ranges and highly lethal at close range. Nevertheless, it is hoped that the FAE/SW-10 will prove itself a deadly tool in the arsenal of First United Astral Engineering’s clients for years to come!
