OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
Designed for First United Astral Engineering’s programs of small craft refits and future designs, the FAE/S-04 Small Craft Support and Survival Suite was conceived to fulfill a need to optimize pilot survival during calamitous events, in addition to improving range during extended sorties in deep space. Including various safety, survival, and utility systems, the FAE/S-04 is built not only with an eye towards these demands, but also comfort and livability. The food synthesizer(s) are capable of creating good, nutritious food, being one of many “luxury” features included to boost morale during demanding missions and sorties. However, these systems are capable of functioning in a survival scenario, provided that the craft is somewhat intact and/or the pilot/crew have not ejected. In the event of an ejection, the ejection module(s) are equipped with survival kits, breathable gas supply, cosmic radiation protection, and other equipment to ensure survival and eventual retrieval in space and atmosphere.
Ultimately, the FAE/S-04 is hoped to define the next generation of military survival and utility equipment and to ensure that First United Astral Engineering’s small craft designs maintain a high level of crew and pilot survivability.
- Intent: To create a general suite for various utility, safety, and survival systems in future designs and refits.

- Utility Shield Systems
- Hydrostatic Field - Waterproof energy membrane which allows the host craft to go underwater, in the process enabling supercavitation to allow the vessel to travel with greater speed and maneuverability when submerged.
- Cockpit Concussion Shielding - Internal concussion shields designed to protect the pilot and the integrity of the cockpit in the event of a crash. Not rated to withstand kinetic fire, but capable of drawing on separate power sources in order to retain operation even when the main combat systems are degraded or overloaded.
- Radiation Shield - Placed around engines, power systems, and other potentially radioactive systems and components, designed to prevent radiation leaks. Capable of drawing on separate power sources in order to retain operation even when combat systems are degraded or overloaded.
- Atmospheric-Friction Shield / Polarized Navigation Shield - Utility shields optimized for space travel, in order to protect against micro-meteor impacts and atmospheric translation. Shields are polarized to allow kinetic fire to leave the shield. However, it should be noted that these systems are not rated to withstand kinetic fire, but are capable of drawing on separate power sources in order to retain operation even when the main combat systems are degraded or overloaded.
- Trans-Binary Deflector - Optimized to protect against cosmic radiation. Capable of drawing on separate power sources in order to retain operation even when combat systems are degraded or overloaded.

- Survival - The FAE/S-04 is designed with an eye towards survival. The suite allows downed pilots and/or crew to sustain themselves while away from civilization for long, near-indefinite periods of time, allowing them to evade capture indefinitely even when stranded on hostile worlds, simply by hiding out in the wilderness, utilizing the craft itself as a mobile camp.
- Synthesis - The FAE/S-04 is capable of synthesizing food, medicine, and objects by recycling waste products or being fed with raw material.
- Repair - The FAE/S-04 includes a complement of small repair drones which are capable of performing maintenance and repairing damage sustained in battle, albeit to a limited extent pertaining to the latter. Nevertheless, they greatly improve the endurance of the host craft in the field and the overall reliability of its systems.
- Underwater - The FAE/S-04 allows the host craft to traverse underwater, due to its hydrostatic field, which creates a supercavitation effect around the vessel that allows high speed travel when submerged.
- Glass Survival - The systems in the FAE/S-04 are geared towards safety and pilot survival, rather than outright defense. None of the utility shields are rated for stopping incoming fire, meaning that the host craft must rely on its defensive systems and shields (If present) for this purpose.
- Surge - The defense of the FAE/S-04 against Ion/EMP-based assaults is ultimately based on the overall defenses of the host craft. If the host craft has meager or low-quality defenses, Ion/EMP-based assaults may easily overload the FAE/S-04, disabling it for some time, depending on the proximity and power quotient of the discharge.
- One or the Other - Unfortunately, the FAE/S-04 is unable to simultaneously accommodate the differing life support needs of two individuals from different species that breathe different gases, forcing one to don a breath mask and/or an environmental suit.
