Dominion Denonination Doubts | GA Dominion of Denon

DENON

Long ago, Denon stood pillar to the Galactic Alliance. It is said that in the days of old, it even stood to serve as the capital for some time. Though the Alliance has known many forms since then, history seems to repeat itself as the world joins the fold once more. The Corporate Authorities that rule the planet, and stretch their influence over surrounding space, have held to their independence for quite some time. However, with the encroaching borders of three nations, it became evident their autonomy hung in the balance. With a proactive response, the Authorities reached out to the Alliance, securing their spot in a nation that offers a safe haven for free-trade. Rumblings of the underworld suggest the notorious shadowrunners of Darkwire have not taken kindly to the cooperation of the pair.

OBJECTIVE I - MONEY MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND

The Senate has reconvened once more. Elections have come and gone, both planetary and national. For the time being, Chancellor Chandra has managed to retain her power; with the imperialist party seeing dying support, and populist split between Tambor and Vahl, the federalist party prevailed, but only just.

However, the continuing reign is beginning as anything but smooth. In recent weeks, electrum has dropped to a record low, dragging the Alliance’s currency - the Galactic Standard Credit - with it. Panic is on the rise as the credit becomes near worthless. Riots have already spawned upon several worlds, with conspiracy theorists pushing that the Alliance must be responsible for the drop. With haste, Senator Otto Shule has proposed moving to another currency - the Trade Federation Credit - while others propose the creation of a domestic Alliance credit to stabilize the market and give the Alliance control. Others argue the Alliance should not intervene, but simply ride the inevitable rises and falls that all currencies face, and stand with the Galactic Standard Credit. In the face of corporate pressures, the interests of your constituents and your own personal gain, how will your Senator vote?

OBJECTIVE II - FRIENDS IN LOW PLACES

Denon is no stranger to wayfaring strangers. With its prime location and the trade routes around it, spacers come like flies to honey, for both business and pleasure. While Alliance’s southern expansion begins to slow, those partaking in the Outbound Flight Initiative prepare to launch into high gear. Spaceports across Denon are seeing increased traffic by recruiters looking to assemble crews for SIA, GADF and civilian expeditions into the Unknown Regions, each looking to use their deep pockets to pull together the best crew and ensure mission success.

However, they are not the only ones on the lookout for a quick score. Shadowrunners have collected intel on where these recruiters are staying, and plan to strike when the fruit is ripe. Both groups now claim it their own turf; and they will have to compete to prove such.

OBJECTIVE III - BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CORUSCANT

Denon is a city world with vast amenities and popular landmarks such as Seven Corners and The Wall, complete with the grandiose Pinnacle casino which lures folk with its offering of wealth and highlife. Skytown is home to a galaxy famous university, who’s knowledge the Jedi may find exciting. Several corporations are ripe with potential for trade. Just a hop skip and jump down the road, you can find the Sakedo Tower, known for its tourism. Business or pleasure, the Alliance citizens take the planet by storm.

OBJECTIVE IV - BYOO

Perhaps you’re on a world seeing conflict from the fallout of the currency debacle, or an adventurer in CAD space with a mission of your own. This story is yours to write.

OBJECTIVE III - BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CORUSCANT

Sometime between his second and fifth cocktail

Shore leave in the Alliance military was a tricky thing. Even when you were planet side, it didn’t mean you could ignore your duties. Adonis was still an Alliance soldier, and a Jedi in training. If all out battle came to Denon, he would still have to put his battle armor on and run out there and shoot the bad guys. So he was hoping with all of his might that this wouldn’t happen. He had earned the few days he had been given while the ship he was working aboard between deployments was being taken care of. While he was being taught the tenants of the Jedi, he was still a soldier at heart, which meant he and most of the rest of his peers would up populating the local drinkeries.

Adonis, who had never even bet on a race before, was drawn immediately toward gambling. He was still naive enough to believe that he was going to be one-in a-billion chance winner of some unimaginable sum of money. That, mixed with the free booze they were offering, was a great chance for him to lose every credit he had been saving since becoming an official Alliance member. He was quite a big fan of the lugjack machine, which he had seated himself in front of for the past hour or so. Cranking the lever with such hope. Each time he would pay a single credit, and so far he was up just a few credits.

As the waitress made her rounds again, Adonis flagged her down. He decided to switch from hard liquor to some champagne, taking a flute off of her serving tray. This was only his fifth or sixth time drinking in his entire life, and he didn’t want to have to be carried out of the establishment. Bringing the champagne to his mouth, he took a hearty sip before placing it on the betting machine and pulling the crank one more time. Hopefully the next time would be his lucky pull!

As the Galactic Alliance crept closer, the Shadowrunners of Denon had kept a close eye on the expansive power. Life under the Alliance wasn’t bad. In fact, they’d brought the foundation of stability to enough words that certainly needed it.

The Shadowrunners simply preferred for Denon to have a loose grasp of its own laws. Crime and business blended together. That was the natural order of things, right? As the local police attempted to clean up the streets in anticipation of the Alliance’s arrival, the Shadowrunners were assessing their options.

DING DING DING

“WINNER: LYN LIGHTNING TAA !!”

From behind the stands, Yula peered out into the crowd. The announcer, a Duros man with a loud voice and a bowtie, was holding up the victorious woman’s arm to the cheers of the onlookers. Dressed in skimpy shorts and a top, the Twi’lek was certainly more than her looks; rude tattoos bloomed up and down her arms, and the wonky nose and sharp teeth told the story of an experienced fighter.

“Yikes. Glad I don’t have to fight her.”

Yula muttered to Daiya, turning back towards the teenager who served as her partner in crime for tonight’s heist. Her own outfit was similar to the one the prizefighter out there wore—it didn’t cover much, but that was the point. No one in the underground shockboxing venue was paying to see fully clothed nuns punch each other silly.

Fighting nearly nude for entertainment wasn’t a habit of Yula’s, but one of Darkwire’s slicers had uncovered several Corpo accounts linked to this place—probably frequent fliers placing bets on a foxy boxing match. So Yula and Daiya took it upon themselves to do what any self-respecting Shadowrunner would do; they put Yula on the roster, the proceeded to inflate her worth with a bunch of very lucrative shadow bets from the Corpo accounts they now had control of.

Now all that was left was for the Zeltron to get her chit kicked in.

“INTRODUCING: SEVRI ‘SAVAGE’ !!

Hopping over the edge of the ring, the Zabrak woman raised her gloved hands to the sound of cheers. Fierce red tattoos lined her face, and the broken, chipped horns didn’t do much to distract from her cauliflower ear.

“AND HER OPPONENT: PINKAPALOOZA!!

Yula’s head whipped around, glaring at the teenager with an open-mouthed stare.

“Daiya what did you dooooo.

"What? I put in those shadow bids like you wanted me to. Cybros, Globex...and I think there was one more." The girl tapped the side of her cheek before she grinned up at the woman beside her. Yula's scantily-clad form showed off her pink skin, a lot of her pink skin. That image had held fast in the girl's mind when she'd set up the registration form for the match. "Oh, thaaaat! It was nothing, you don't have to thank me."

As much interest as she actually had in the foxy boxing match, which was very little, it'd be hard to tell from how she held herself. A pink shirt complimented the tone of Yula's skin, while the pigtails she'd done up, and her exuberance, made the teen the very picture of an adoring fan. She wanted others in the crowd to pay as little attention to her as possible now, so they wouldn't notice her later on either.

The disguised, young shadowrunner couldn't help a soft snicker escape from her lips, and she gave the Zeltron woman a once-over with her eyes. "You do look very pink. Plus, it'll help. Everyone's gonna focus on you and not all the creds they're about to lose."

Daiya gave Yula a wink, and then a little push back toward the arena. The faster Yula was in the shockboxing match, the faster she could get to her own part. The teen wasn't about to sit around with a towel and spray bottle for the woman, coaching duties were not part of this package deal. It was simple, Yula was the pull while Daiya did the lift. Watching the pink-faced upstart getting knocked on her ass would be a great distraction for the teen to do the grab.

She almost felt sorry for Yula.

Almost. She'd make it up to the woman after all this was over, as if their share of credits and loot wouldn't ease the pain all by itself. Besides, the sooner Yula got started, the sooner it'd be over. Daiya made a short, sweeping motion with her hands to shoo the woman toward the arena. "Go on, I got this, it'll be a-mazing. I'll be waiting for you when you're gone."

The teen made a face, interjecting quickly with a, "Done. I meant done."

She actually did, but an unsettling feeling made the girl tense to hold back a shiver. Daiya gave Yula one more smile, projecting the confidence she suddenly needed herself. Not the best start to their newest con. The girl gave her friend a reassuring thumbs-up gesture before they parted ways, each to their own round against an enemy.

Only Daiya wasn't betting against herself.

Daiya Daiya | Yula Perl Yula Perl

Just another day on Denon.

The home away from home, a flashing real estate billboard reminded him in his usual trek through the rooftops, alleys and streets of the ecumenopolis. It had been more than just a few months since he had started spending more time on Denon than on Coruscant. Come for the conspiracy investigation, stay for the girl. That was a half-truth, no-- really. Everything about this network of deception he was struggling to uncover seemed to revolve around the corporate world. Before both of them knew it, Dagon had 'decorated' her place in detective boards with a crime chart so complicated it gave Yula a head-splitting migraine, so she opted veiling it with a thick, black cloth - a thrift shop curtain, really.

So what was on the crimefighting menu today? Well, considering its Denon, it was an all-you-can-eat-buffet. A pickpocket with the first coffee by six am, just right outside the little street they lived on; half a dozen speeder jacking eddies by brunch and a jewelry hit job botched for lunch. Right around the time when he could call Yula, see what's up - any time before that and she'd have his head for waking her up 'too early'. Not a morning person, I get it.

No one answered back and he shrugged it off. Still asleep, he thought but couldn't help the recent rising suspicion in his gut. Slowly, taking his time, he was connecting the dots. The few evenings they managed to grab a bite together before he disappeared in the night doing what a crimefighter does, she'd be talkative and open when it came to her doing good things - stuff like busting a thief; other times she'd be reluctant, you'd have to drop the bait and drag the words out of her mouth and for some reason it was always a topic revolving around this mysterious Darkwire group, shadowrunners they called themselves. Only once she had snapped and told him there was no good guy roles to fill on Denon. Ever since then, the investigator's flair within had riled up to find out more.

Little did he know that tonight would be the night of revelations.

A few, half-assed rumors popped in the PD by afternoon by the even fewer CIs - something was about to go down at tonight's gala in the entertainment district. Arthur, his faithful A.I companion, summarized the rap sheets through his earpiece and picked his fancy outfit for the night. A brief fight ensued, Arthur conceded and Dagon left simply with a white shirt, sleeves slightly rolled up and navy trousers that costed a fortune before someone pawned them off to pay back his friendly, ever-smiling loan sharks. No lightsaber in sight, nowhere to hide it and frankly, Dagon wasn't really perturbed leaving it behind.

“WINNER: LYN LIGHTNING TAA !!”

"She's clearly no factory default." Arthur's voice resounded in his earpiece

"A what now?"

"A factory default, Sir."

"W-- ..what's a factory default, Arthur?"

"An individual who has not been cybernetically enhanced, Sir."

"She's rubbing off waaay too much on you." murmured Dagon.

"Miss Perl, Sir? Not at all, I have merely been assimilating this 'Pocket Guide To Linguistics: Denon Underworld Edition.'"

The Jedi cringed for a moment before turning his focus back on the task ahead. What exactly was his task? Stand watch, figure out what's going on and try to anticipate what might happen. In the end most rumors provided by CI amounted to nothing. This seemed a very probable case here, too. Rising commotion of bets won and bets lost, champagne popping off, crystal glasses clinking in the air and foxy, gold-digging eyes matched the foxy outfits of the contenders on the arena.

Speaking of...

Wild-eyed, Dagon halted a few rows from the ring; his mouth open in stupor at the sight.

"Master Kaze, is that not--"

"Yula?!"

or is it PINKAPALOOZA!!

Objective I: Money Makes The World Go Round - Currency Riot
Location: Denon, Seven Corners, Misery-Upon-Dream

Get people scared enough, and they'll accept any injustice in the same of security. But give them a little hope...

Give them a little hope and they'll tear down cloudcutters with their bare hands, screaming for justice. The man known as Doc Painless was seeing it in real time. Tens of thousands of people swarmed the streets of Misery-Upon-Dream, shouting and stomping and thrusting protest signs at the sky. CorpSec was out in force, but in this district they had to play it safe, just trying to contain the crowds. Down in the Suicide Slums they could crack heads with impunity, and most people would never find out - or care if they did. But Misery-Upon-Dream was middle class, home to line managers and office workers and salesmen. If they got roughed up, people noticed.

It was because they were middle-class that they had reason to protest. In all the prior uprisings and riots and outpourings of anger the Doc had witnessed, it had been the desperately poor driving the action, people with nothing left to lose. But after the currency crash that Darkwire had engineered on Wann Tsir, and the assassination of the DireX Board's bursar before he could figure out how to fix it, the corporate vouchers issued to workers of all levels had suddenly become worthless. People who were accustomed to comfortable lives were suddenly bartering their possessions for food in the streets, and CorpSec was pressing "essential employees" into forced, unpaid labor.

Suddenly, people who had never been class conscious before cared about inequity. Injustice had finally hit home.

At first, fear of CorpSec goon squads - and the brutal televised arrests of "dissidents" - had kept these people indoors, unwilling to take risks to improve their situation. But with word that the Galactic Alliance was in talks to welcome Denon into its fold, enough hope had been born to overcome that fear. Now, people were out in the streets in force, demanding to be paid in hard currency. They didn't care if it was Galactic Standard Credits or Trade Federation Credits or Wupipi from the Outer Rim; they just wanted cold, hard cash for their labor, and an assurance that they would never return to the voucher system or be pressed into indentures again. They'd fight for that.

It was extremely dangerous for the Doc to be here, witnessing all of this. He was still a wanted man for his (accurately) suspected connections to Darkwire, and a nicer district like Misery-Upon-Dream was studded with cameras that would send CorpSec running if they spotted his face. He'd been hiding in the neglected sublevels of Denon's infrastructure, places infested with gangs and pollution-mutated wildlife that the Corps didn't bother to monitor - and where their security officers dared not tread. This was his first return to Seven Corners since the fateful day he'd fled his clinic, and it brought with it the strong possibility of arrest, detention, and "enhanced interrogation".

But he'd had to see this. He'd had to watch as everything Darkwire had worked for came to fruition. The people of Denon were finally stirring, finally waking up to how they'd been exploited over the years of the Corporate Authority's rule. If they made their voices heard now, as the Alliance came in to ask who the planet's legitimate authorities were, perhaps they could put a dent in the power and influence of the greedy plutocrats who had dominated their destinies for far too long. The Doc just hoped the Senate would listen to the people's will, and not the group that could pump their profits into individual senators' coffers to influence them. That was always a risk.

The big corporations needed Alliance credits to stabilize themselves and remain profitable, and they would do whatever they could to buy into whatever currency the Alliance settled on. They didn't want the will of the people to be heard; if they could get away with it, they would return to the voucher system as soon as they could back it and revalue it with hard currency, forcing their workers to buy only their products in order to survive. It was up to the citizens of Denon to speak out and keep that from happening, and that meant lots of highly visible protests - protests that would reach the halls of power on Coruscant. Protests that CorpSec would suppress if they could.

In a heavy cloak in the midst of the crowd, the Doc waited. If they tried, he would be there to help the people.

She had come to Denon to support the Shadowrunners. To support their tenuous hold against the encroaching groups that were attempting to gain a foothold and push them out.

Public transportation to the planet was easy enough to manage as she stood outside a noodle shop and waited for her contact to reach her. In the meantime, she was playing around on her datapad when an alert crossed her screen.

Her brow narrowed at the sight, hidden behind a mask that covered everything above her mouth to her forehead. Her hair was done up in the now typical bun that held her zenji needle sheaths. The green and black hair tightly wound as she tapped the link and couldn't keep herself from snorting a laugh.

"Oh Yula...that is so..." She struggled to think of the right word. "Fitting."

She managed to find something that felt proper as she examined the bets and noticed the trend. They had done well it seemed as she popped in her own lair of bets.

Her private money on the opponent Yula was facing before a secondary bet using someone else's credits was made. She hadn't remembered the feth-heads name, but remembered the unwarranted cat calls and jeers he had made.

She had followed him after brushing him off, and snagged his personal data before siphoning it off in a bet on Yula.

"That'll do nicely" she hummed, now happy with her bets, she let herself be drawn into the feed of the fight while she waited.

Aerarii Tithe Aerarii Tithe - The Senate

kwzlsmL.png

It had been a few days since the final election results had come in from the member planets of the Galactic Alliance, but the trend had been clear quite early in the returns. Adhira Chandra was about to reclaim victory with a formidable majority in the Alliance Senate. The Populist Party had been divided between two popular candidates, giving her own voting bloc the edge of several member planets and pushing her to an unexpectedly large victory. Aerarii Tithe Aerarii Tithe had also made significant gains, which meant their unique friendship would continue... for now.

The doors to the lower chamber of the Chancellor's pod opened and a flurry of Senate Guards processed inside before the Chancellor entered clad in black and reflective golden robes that dragged behind her. She looked resplendent with a bright grin on her face as she entered and she wasted no time mounting the podium with the Rodian Aide before inviting Tithe to join her with his tall golden staff. "We have won another term, Aerarri," she grinned, "and we must seize this opportunity to effect real change."

The Chancellor's podium began to rise into the Senate Chamber and as Adhira's figure crested the edge of the view, the vast chamber erupted into thunderous applause. The raucous noise came mostly from her own voting bloc members, but other Senators gave polite applause for their inevitable Chancellor. The old Balmorran beamed in reply, waving to the newly elected Federalists, nodding in respect to her old allies, and smirking at her challengers. When the podium finally came to rest at its Zenith, she held her hands up for silence.

"I hereby call this Galactic Alliance Senate to order!" the noise began to dissipate throughout the chamber and she nodded in reply, allowing Aerarri to take charge of the session.

Sssar lounged in the pod assigned to Eclipse. A pair of protocol droids with datapads and holocommunicators spoke to a variety of other politicians and lobbyists. They processed information, and remembered it, with far more efficiency than most biological aides he could afford. As the doors opened to the Senate floor with the procession of Senate Commandos he rose a bit to peer down towards Adhira Chandra Adhira Chandra and Aerarii Tithe Aerarii Tithe . As the applause of approval and victory echoed around the chamber the Independent Senator, who was armless, gave a nod towards the re-elected Chancellor. Sssar was glad to see his old political ally retain power. He believed in her ability just as much as he believed she would take his concerns about Eclipse seriously.

"Senator Taszzn." the protocol droid spoke "Your endorsement for the renovation of the fourth deck of Eclipse is required by the Families." without looking away from the Chancellor and her Vice Chancellor he hissed in a whisper "Tell them that it issss given. Until the ssssesssssion issss adjurned prepare the do not dissssturb ressssponssssessss to all who are not Ssssentorss or higher." the protocol droids made noises of affirmation and began to heavily restrict communications.

The tale of strange bedfellows opened another chapter chapter.

Aerarii Tithe, recently returned as the Vice Chancellor of the Galactic Alliance, strode toward the centre of the antechamber beneath the Senate chamber which housed the Chancellor’s podium with his retinue. The podium, which would soon rise up into the room above and house them while the opened the first session of the newly elected Senate, sat halfway between the respective entrances to the Chancellor’s and Vice Chancellor’s offices. The symbolism of meeting in the middle was not lost of the Corporatist party member.

“Indeed, a delightful causatum,” he agreed. “But much remains undone.” Reports of the Alliance’s victory at Krayiss - together with the New Imperial Order’s capture of a vital transit route between Concord Dawn and Ord Ramada and a string of surprise attacks by the Brotherhood of the Maw - had buoyed public support between the pair shortly before election day. With another term secured, the possibilities ahead of Adhira and Tithe were endless.

Together they rose up into the Senate chamber and Adhira brought the session to order without fanfare - straight to business. Continuity with Change, the personification of their laughable yet oddly effective campaign slogan.

“Item aurek-one,” Tithe declared into the loudhailer build into the podium. A copy of the motion simultaneously appeared on the holoscreens of every senatorial podium, complementing the copy provided yesterday as part of the meeting pack for today’s sessions. “Yes, item aurek-one is a motion by the Member for Coruscant to scrutinize the utility of the Galactic Standard Credit as the official currency of the Galactic Alliance. Do I have a, ah, second?” The member for Anaxes seconded the motion, allowing it to proceed to a debate.

“The Member for Coruscant has the floor.”

“The Member for Coruscant has the floor.”

Dalton flicked his eyes down to his pad with notes, then lifted again to watch the proceedings. He had his own personal opinion on the matter, and he had agents on Hosnian Prime running various polls to get the pulse of his constituency on the matter. That was set to pop up to his pad as well once it had been completed.

Dalton was of the opinion that the government needed to watch out for its people in most cases, but felt the fluctuation in currency valuation wasn't necessarily one of them. With as vast as the Alliance was, they could be self-sufficient, making the valuation of the credit compared to external currencies meaningless. And while Dalton would never suggest moving to an isolationist model, he felt their credit could take the lower validation and return strongly on the ebbs and flows of the galactic economy.

He was willing to be persuaded, however. He wasn't an economist, and he was here to represent his people. If, in the end, it made sense to move the official currency to something else, or if his people overwhelmingly backed it, he would vote for that course.

OBJECTIVE III - BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CORUSCANT
--------------------------------------------------------------
"Weeelp," the Rodian mechanic started scratching his head as he drew out the sentiment into two syllables, with a heavy accent and drawl that Marck didn't recognize. The mechanic had been crawling through Maerck's ship for the better part of an hour since he had made his emergency landing on Denon. Each time the Rodian became visible, appearing from some crawl space or behind a bulkhead, he made a strange clicking noise with his tongue while shaking his head in disgust. Each time Marck grew more worried. 'Was the damage worse than R4 had reported?' Marck thought as he waited for the Rodian to finally start talking.

"Looks like your droid is correct," he said pulling out his datapad and started to make some entries. "Your hyperspace motivator is shorting out."

Marck sighed to himself, relieved that it wasn't worse, but also resigned that this wasn't going to be a quick fix and he could be on his way any time soon. He was just fortunate that R4-T1 had caught the problem early and had diverted them to land on Denon. "How much and how long to fix?" Marck asked the mechanic as R4 approached behind him, making its own clucking sound. R4 had been following the mechanic around the ship from the moment he had arrived, making the same clucking sound as the mechanic worked. If Marck didn't know better he would have thought that droid was being overprotective of the ship, worried that the mechanic was going to break something.

"Weeelp," the mechanic drawled again, his accent even heavier than before. "I could pull the unit, try and fix it, but that might take a very long time to figure out." The Rodian must have seen on Marck's face that he didn't like that option at all since he shook his head mimicking the clucking noise that R4 had been making earlier. "Or I could just replace the unit. Little more expensive but much quicker."

"How much more expensive?" Marck asked as he tried to calculate which of the options would be better in this situation. He had the credits to make the repairs, and he wasn't in any particular hurry, but he also didn't want to remain on Denon for long either. He was on his way to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, ready to take on a new assignment after having spent the last few years in the outer rim territories.

"Not too expensive," the Rodian continued, while still entering information into his datapad. "I can give you a discount, buy your old unit to repair in my own time, then sell it to someone else who can't afford a new unit."

"That sounds like a good plan," Marck agreed. "How long?"

"A few hours for the unit to be delivered, then another few hours to install and run a complete inspection on your ship." The Rodian reported as he walked up to R4, looking the droid over with a critical eye. "Maybe a little less if your droid here can stay and help."

"Very well," Marck said to the mechanic. "I guess I'll explore while you two work."

--------------------------------------------------------------

Exploring the massive city would have taken the Jedi Master several lifetimes to complete. Like Coruscant the entire world was one massive city, comprised of many many levels. Over the centuries, new construction had been built on the old, adding more layers as time passed. The Jedi Master wasn't even sure anyone actually knew how many layers existed anymore, or how many individuals actually inhabited the world. So instead of trying to go everywhere or anywhere in particular he just allowed himself to wonder.

People buzzed around him, filling their days with missions of a mix of desires and survival. The world was a little overwhelming. After having spent so much time in the small communities and stations of the outer rim territories, to be so surrounded by so many life forms awash with so many emotions was intense. But he was still enjoying it nonetheless. After some time, however, Marck needed a break. Looking around he spotted a bar that was connected to a casino, or maybe it was a casino that acted as a bar since the whole thing was filled with games and lugjack machines.

"I'll have a Corellian Ale," Marck ordered when a waiter approached after sitting down next to a rather colorful lugjack machine that seemed to depict a variety of dancers carrying large cards with the different symbols that needed to be lined up. Marck suspected that if he paid the credits to load the machine and pulled the oversized level that the cards would flip and change until they either lined up or didn't.

"Thank you," Marck said after his drink arrived then sat back and looked around. He decided that he was going to sit here and people watch until either his ship was repaired, or for the Force to bring him something else to do. All his instincts told him that he probably wasn't going to be waiting here for long.

"Go on, I got this, it'll be a-mazing. I'll be waiting for you when you're gone."

"Done. I meant done."

“You’re chit at encouragement.”

Yula didn’t think twice about putting herself in an unsavory situation. Or rather, that was how she marketed it—the wayward Zeltron who didn’t know what inhibitions were.

Well, okay, that was true some of the time. Gotta have fun, right?

The reality stood that many of her actions really were calculated. Yula just wasn’t great at math.

Punching her gloves together in an attempt to amp herself up, she decided to suck it up and get on with the show. Her goal was to last as long as possible before losing. Partially to make it look real enough, but equally to buy Daiya more time. The girl was a skilled pickpocket, and there were many fat wallets present in need of lightening.

Down the catwalk she went to a chorus of cheers and wolf whistles, soaking up the attention. Far be it from her to shy away from the spotlight. Now that she’d climbed into the ring, many of the patrons leaned in closer to take in the sight of the two scantily clad boxers.

Yula offered a lopsided smile to her opponent, holding up her gloves in an attempt to show respect.

“Don’t hit me too hard, huh?”

The Zabrak sneered, spitting to the side in response. Her gloves did not meet Yula’s halfway.

The bell rang, and off they went. The Zabrak was larger, but still agile enough to dodge the Zeltron’s strikes. Meanwhile, Yula went largely on the defensive—ducking and weaving her way through flurries of punches. Hoots and whistles sounded from the audience as the two women began to move with aggressive intent.

Her concentration broke, head whipping around in time to see Dagon in the audience, looking very surprised. What was—he was supposed to be at the precinct! How did he know that she was here? Unless…

Sevri knew an opening when she saw one. Her right hook crashed against Yula’s jaw, and the Zeltron went down to the many cries of oof from the crowd.

Daiya, you’d better be working hard.

Faith read what they were to discuss.

Ooo joy..currency of the Alliance. Yes she understood what it would do standardize the currency, stop the amount of transfers to convert over, but would it hinder them. There were some places that did not want to accept galactic credits they preferred their own currency.

This was a discussion of value, she just had to get her head into it.

She had sent Theo on a mission to scope out sites for the deployment and integration of additional medical facilities on Denon while she...took care of home developing the Sanctuary Coast.

Kal Kal | Globex University Denon | OPEN (ish)

Auteme had, for several years now, defined herself largely by her role as a Jedi. She was a leader, a shield, a Jedi; yet today she had a growing feeling that she had found a different people.

"-I think there's a bit of a misunderstanding when it comes to the Force, which, obviously -- in many regions of the galaxy, at least -- has really hampered our moral strength as a society, especially given the continued prominence of both the Jedi and the Sith. There's this sense that it is, you know, the final answer to all our great questions about life and the universe. It can certainly be a route towards it, and I think it's the route that the Jedi- and, to some extent, the Sith, have based their morals in. But it's difficult to explain to others because of how inaccessible the Force is to most, despite how it's described as flowing through us, surrounding us."

She'd come to regret not being able to attend as many classes in-person on Coruscant. At the GUD she found what she'd been missing. Standing at the front of the lecture hall, speaking to a class of bright, inquisitive students -- it was as rewarding as any of her other work. Plus, the GUD's Force Studies program's people had as good an understanding of the thing as any Jedi she'd met (better than many she'd met, too).

"If you're a Jedi you have access to what is basically a god, and if you listen it can tell you what to do, and what it tells you is, for the most part, right. It's good, and unselfish, and it's often that way no matter the ethical framework used to measure it. But there are times when it can clash with what others think is right, and it's then that we need our own moral frameworks the most. It's impossible to convince someone that your viewpoint is right if your only proof is, 'the Force told me so'. For a Jedi -- for me, at least -- that emerges as a sort of double-check on all of my actions, especially when the Force is involved.

"It's really tempting to just handwave morality when you have that 'higher power', but I think it's something that can alienate those without access to it. Divine command theory is, in my opinion, one of the weakest schools of metaethics, even when there is access to the 'divine'. So, when you're thinking about the Force, don't hesitate to decouple morality from it. Not forever -- as much as I am for other moral frameworks, the Force has never led me to do wrong -- but for a moment, to flesh out your understanding and your studies."

Auteme paused a moment, watching as the frantic scribbling of notes slowed and the students began to look to her again. She breathed out, then smiled.

"That's about all, but I've got a bit of time, so- any questions?"

Auteme Denko-Durren. Jedi, Scholar, and current guest lecturer at GUD, one of Denon's premier universities - and like all the rest, a private affair with strong ties to the Corpos. At least Globex was upfront about it and kept its financial tendrils out of independent research. For the most part.

"That's about all, but I've got a bit of time, so- any questions?"

A slim blue hand rose into the air, the smartly dressed young Pantoran woman it belonged to voicing her thoughts either immediately or when her turn came, dependant on the eagerness of her fellow students. It was quite unlikely that Kal would be recognised in this form, especially since he was currently sharing it with a willing host, but he recognised the Jedi - the last time they met had been quite amusing.

"How would you explain the differing characteristics certain more or less independently developed cultures have attributed to the Force? I believe the Witches of Dathomir view it quite differently from the Jedi, for instance." As did his kind, but their views were less well known to the galaxy.

A natural consequence of originating in the Netherworld, no doubt - not somewhere the average person interacts with, outside incidents.

"Good question -- though admittedly, I think the Witches of Dathomir are a rather poor example, given that the majority of their culture originated from the Book of Law, which was written by a Jedi, and took inspiration from the Jedi Code." She paused a moment. "Of course, the Nightsisters -- an exiled sect of the Witches of Dathomir -- are far further than the Jedi in their views, more focused on their dark arts, though again that was formed due to their opposition of the more light-oriented Witches."

Granted, the 'Witches of Dathomir' evoked an image of more dangerous and evil spellcasters, but she hoped she'd given some slight encouragement for further study into the group.

"As a rule of thumb -- I don't think the Force itself affects cultures as much as cultures affect views of the Force. The Order of Shasa, for example, is a Selkath Force sect focused on Manaan, but it doubles as a core part of Selkath culture. While it was, in part, motivated by Manaan's neutrality, and thus its wish to stay away from both the Jedi and Sith, its members serve as storytellers and protectors of the Selkath both. The majority of their beliefs and skills come from their connection to the seas of their homeworld. They've learned techniques to connect themselves to the tides to enhance their abilities, and connect themselves to the great beasts of Manaan, such as the Progenitor, which is a proto-Firaxan shark that has lived for thousands of years.

"There are also groups like the Miralukan Luka Sene, which are arguably even less exclusive than the Order of Shasa. Luka Sene students take up places in Miralukan society and use their sensing abilities to improve their work and society. Miralukan evolution gave them far higher rates of Force sensitivity, so they developed the means to train the most talented in that way, and make them effective parts of their society.

"It really depends on the culture. Some are built by individuals, and others come about from greater societal motivations, so I can't speak to a greater trend -- still, in general I think the beliefs of people about the Force override the Force's 'nature' itself."

As she tended to, she went on a bit long -- the question that followed the Pantoran's were each as specific and thoughtful, but she didn't have time to discuss them all in depth. Soon enough the end of her time arrived, and the professor dismissed the class after she'd said her goodbyes.

Now was the next task. As the students began to stream out, Auteme went to the professor. "Professor Dyu, you had something- ah, to show me?"

"Yes, it's back here." The professor turned, heading towards the exit. Auteme followed.

Denon had been his home for the past few months, now it was about to be swamped by Galatic Alliance stinkers looking to make a quick credit. Today, he had the pleasure of sending one packing after data was sent to him about the particular individual and his crew. The captain had been making lucrative contracts with his new crew, forcing them to work without a single credit given to them at the end. Although, that wasn't the worst part about it. Word has it he had been scouting older kids from the orphanages to work for him, something of which angered Cartri to the bone. All it did was give them another example of hopelessness, and that wasn't going to stand any longer with him.

The streets were packed as usual while Cartri ducked and weaved through the endless waves of people coming at him. Luckily, from the amount of time he had spent on this horrid planet things like this were the norm. He was making ground towards his contact, a person who he really didn't need considering his skill set. Nonetheless, it was always good to work with new people, even if it meant annoying the hell out of them. All he knew was that his contact was a female wearing a mask, a bit conspicuous at first but understandable in most cases. Some people didn't want to be known in the galaxy, and it was only right to respect that wish.

It wasn't long until he reached the destination, somewhere that was quiet and secluded compared to the mess he just walked through. He slowly walked over to a ledge and looked down to see a figure observing something on a datapad, someone who perfectly match the description of his meetup. On closer inspection, it seemed to be a live stream of the Denon shock boxing matches. It would have been a lie to say he wasn't a big fan of the sport, and that was mainly thanks to Xan Deesa Xan Deesa allowing him to watch the one time on her datapad. Ever since then he had been glued to the action anytime it was on. He would have been watching it now if it wasn't for these traders poking their heads in a business where they didn't belong.

Cartri lowered himself in a sitting position above the woman with his legs dangling over the edge. His first thoughts were to go down and greet her like a true Darkwire professional, but that simply wasn't in his nature. Messing with them at first always seemed to work a treat, especially in terms of breaking the ice. His eyes curiously gazed around for an object he could use, anything that could catch the attention of the mysterious contact. In a pile to the right of him was a disfigured doll, made from soft material that wasn't meant to last long in harsh conditions. Its face and body were in quite bad shape, with one eye missing and a multitude of rips being seen across its stitching. Using the force, he levitates it over to himself and begins to lower it down behind her, a wide grin forming across his face as it got closer to her shoulder. Carefully, like a well trained puppet master, he comically starts to lean the doll's head into her line of sight, disrupting her view of the match and hopefully giving her a nasty surprise!

Listening attentively but taking no notes - he didn't need them - Kal found the answer as interesting as he had hoped. Was the information contained therein new? Not necessarily, but it did prove to him that the Jedi might be a worthwhile conversation partner, despite her less than impressive display in their last encounter. Something to consider for when he was not actively spying on her.

<That will be all, thank you for your time.> He could feel the Pantoran's surprise, as there were still a few hours left of the time she had bartered for his services, but she was not about to complain. A mutually beneficial situation, unless you felt strongly about academic cheating.

Emerging invisibly from his temporary host, Kal moved to follow Auteme, making every effort to keep his presence hidden from her senses. It was not a simple matter to conceal oneself from Force Users, but he'd had a decent amount of practice - and was quite willing to cheat.

In this case, he glided up to Professor Dyu, concealing himself within a non-Sensitive's presence. In theory, anyway.

Daiya offered her pink tongue to the equally-pink prizefighter as she heard the woman's parting shot. She scoffed at the sentiment, before turning her attention to her task. There would only be a few minutes of opportunity and the teen couldn't afford to waste them.

As she wended her way through the crowd, the teen found it difficult to avoid hitting anything, or anyone. Her slim body wasn't at fault, and her footing was honed nimble from her years on the streets of Denon. Even her satchel was mostly empty today and tightly secured to give her the best profile possible. No, Daiya was struggling with the words Yula had left her with a few moments ago.

She wasn't chit at encouragement!

The teen was annoyed, mostly at herself for taking it so personally. Daiya had looked up to the pink Zeltron from the moment she'd met Yula, and even with their fleeting moments of interaction had filled her with such adoration. Yula was even getting herself beaten up for the sake of their caper. So why was Daiya beating herself up over a few words?

She needed to just suck it up and get with the picture. The match had already started, and Daiya winced as spied Yula taking her first punch. Distracted again, the teen barely had a moment of warning before knocked into another being in the crowd. A yelp escaped from her lips before she took a few steps back, muttering a half-apologetic, "Oops!"

Daiya spun away, some focus —literally— knocked back into her, and made herself scarce in the crowd. Opening her palm, she finally surveyed what it was she took from her brief encounter.

A fancy chronometer, nice. Chase Fashion brand, or something high-end like that. Nothing she would wear herself, but the teen wasn't interested in using it. She slipped the watch into her satchel and moved on, using her deft hands and innocuous appearance to slip close enough to other beings to lift valuables they had carelessly left in pockets and handbags.

After a few minutes, Daiya took a moment to brush her hands on her shorts. She needed sticky fingers, not sweaty palms. The girl patted her satchel to check its volume, and muttered to herself, "Yula better not wimp out early, I'm barely halfway full."
