Chancellor Emerita / Advisor of State
3tonQn.png

NAME: Adhira Chandra

FACTION: The Galactic Alliance

RANK: Chancellor of the Alliance- Former Jedi (Resigned - Reassigned)

SPECIES: Human

AGE: 66

SEX: Female

HEIGHT: 5'5" -165cm

WEIGHT: 130lbs - 59kg

EYES: Brown

HAIR: Black

SKIN: Olive

FORCE SENSITIVE: Yes

STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES:
(-) Deceptive:
While not in the nature of the Jedi to be inherently deceptive, her unfortunate encounter on Plexis and years of watching politicians made Adhira a deeply distrustful person. When someone does manage to earn her trust, they have it completely, but even those closest to her do not always escape suspicion. As a result, she has been known to be withholding and tactfully deceptive, keeping many colleagues and friends at arm's length. The paranoid nature has made it difficult for Adhira to form lasting and meaningful bonds with many people. Her own marriage has teetered frequently because of her habit to mislead others.
(-) Respiratory Damage: During the skirmish on Plexis, which saw the death of her Jedi Master, Adhira inhaled a non-lethal dose of null gas (a lethal gas to oxygen breathers employed by one of the trandoshan crime bosses of the planet). This inhalation caused irreparable damage to Adhira's respiratory system. Great physical exertion tires her far more than most people her age which prevents her from excessively long walks. Running is all but impossible for her without medical equipment to assist in her breathing and she requires a higher than normal oxygen saturation in the air to breathe normally.

(-) Aversion to Public Life: Adjusting to life in the public eye has been difficult for Adhira, an intensely private person who always felt more comfortable standing behind the center of attention rather than being that center herself. She has significantly fewer encounters with the press and public than many of her Senate colleagues and avoids the spotlight whenever possible. This obviously can make it difficult for a person whose job it is to represent the people of her planet on a galactic stage.

(+) Diplomacy: Adhira was trained as Jedi Consular which frequently saw her undertake and oversee diplomatic missions on behalf of the Order and the Republic. She is known throughout much of the galaxy as being a particularly skilled negotiator, helping to defuse many near-catastrophic encounters between galactic opponents. Her ability to dazzle, ingratiate, and frankly, to dupe others into adopting her way of thinking. To this end, she is fluent in many languages including High Galactic, Huttese, Mando'a, and Dosh. She also possessed the ability to understand but not speak Shyriiwook and, at least in theory, Sith.
(+) Intelligence Gathering: Part of Adhira's duties as a diplomatic aide, diplomat, and occasional agent of the intelligence community was to acquire pertinent information to help in the success of diplomatic missions. As an aide to Ambassadors, she would often be found standing close behind them at social functions whispering key facts about people before her superior had to engage with them. This habit has proven useful for Adhira in her later life as an Ambassador herself and now as a politician.
(+) Force Sensitive: Adhira was trained in the ways of the force and though she has mostly lived a life outside of the force for many decades, her innate connection to it has had its advantages. She is naturally very perceptive of the intentions and even emotional states of those around her which frequently provides her with leverage in political situations. The senator has also on rare occasions used her ability to tap into the minds of others actively and can call on this and other abilities when necessary. Presently she still has a strong enough connection to the force to actively employ telepathy, empathy, mind tricks, and force push with some pronounced mental exertion.

APPEARANCE:
Adhira is a 60-year-old human woman with olive skin, long black hair, and deep brown eyes. At 5'5" and 130lbs she is a relatively unimposing figure especially among some of the towering figures who often surround her. Like most political figures in the galaxy, she has a penchant for extravagant vestments, frequently donning bright colors with jeweled embellishment.

BIOGRAPHY:
Early Life - Jedi Youngling
Adhira Chandra was born into a very influential and powerful family on the planet Balmorra. Her father was an executive of a Balmorran shipyard that produced luxury yachts and her mother was a long-standing member of the political class in Bin Prime. She was the middle child in a cadre of 4 children with 1 elder brother and 3 younger brothers. As with most force-sensitive children, Adhira was identified at a very young age by the Jedi Order and, despite the protest of her parents, was taken into their service to be raised in the ways of the Force.

As a youngling, she grew quickly in the ways of Jedi. She was well attuned to the Force and became something of a peace-keeper among her young peers within the order. When it came time for the younglings to be assigned for apprenticeship it seemed natural that she would fall under the careful tutelage of a Jedi Consular.

Teen Years - Jedi Padawan
Assigned to the Besalisk Jedi Master Deeth Karant, Adhira learned the subtlety of diplomacy throughout the galaxy as she accompanied Karant on a variety of consular missions for the Order. As her training continued she was entrusted with increasingly greater responsibility for the success of these missions and became well known on many Core Worlds and within the Order itself as a competent negotiator.

Adhira also excelled in her use of the Force, particularly in her ability to divine the intentions and emotions of others. Her skill with a lightsaber though was notably lacking and a point of constant frustration for her (and her master) as she progressed in her training. However, given that her eventual role within the Order would not be combat-focused, this flaw in her ability would be overlooked for a time.

Early Adult - Knighthood - Former Jedi - Reassignment
Though the Order had previously chosen to allow Adhira time to grow in her combat abilities, the issue was brought to the fore during a diplomatic mission to the crime-ridden planet of Plexis. The Jedi Order and the Republic believed they could bring the crime-bosses of the planet into the fold and reform their ways to adhere to Republic Law. However, upon arrival to the rendezvous point with the most prominent crime family leaders, Adhira and her master came under attack. Poisonous gas was released into the air by droids, killing her master. The padawan was unable to fight off the droids and inhaled enough of the gas to permanently damage her lungs, though her injuries were not fatal.

Adhira was able to avoid capture and death, escaping the area long enough to send a distress signal to their Republic escort in orbit.

Upon her return and following a thorough investigation by the Council, it was determined that Adhira's deficiency in defensive training was at least partly responsible for the death of her master. Ultimately, she was denied knighthood and recommended for reassignment by the Council. Adhira was secretly relieved by the outcome as the death of her master and her own shortcomings weighed heavily on her heart. Her ability in diplomacy led her to recommended for service in the Diplomatic Corp of the Republic where she was placed as a low-level aide to one of the many Republic Ambassadors.

Middle Adult - Republic Department of State - Low-level aide
As a diplomatic aide, Adhira was widely prized for her continued ability to discern the motives of others. She was rotated between ambassadors, particularly those serving in high stakes diplomatic missions around the galaxy. As she progressed within the Department of State, she saw the successful acquisition of dozens of systems through diplomatic means as the result of the missions that she and her supervisors embarked on, helping to greatly expand Republic territory over time. Due to her unique talents within the Force, Adhira was also frequently called upon to perform key functions in join missions with Republic Intelligence.

Several times throughout the many years of her service to Republic she served as High Commissioner, Consul, and Chief Deputy to several diplomatic missions, but refused every ambassadorial appointment that required her to take a more public role in the Republic government. Adhira had always been naturally averse to public life.

During this time she also met her long-time partner, Aarav, a shipyard worker at her father's company who hailed from her home planet. Together they had 2 children, a boy named Rohit and a girl named Ishana. From these children, they would also eventually have 5 grandchildren.

Later Adult - Republic Ambassador - Long-time Bureaucrat
Near the end of her service to the Department of State, Adhira was eventually pressured into accepting an ambassadorial position as ambassador to several independent systems outside of Republic control. Her condition for accepting this appointment at the time was that she would not be required to appear or speak publicly, leaving these duties to her Press Secretary and the public relations servants within the Republic.

Still, she found great success in this position and was able to open a number of trade routes with unoccupied planets within the Republic sphere of influence. The efforts of her Press Secretary also managed to raise her profile within the galaxy and brought her performance to the attention of the Chancellor's office.

Now - Senate Election - Public Life
Following the death of her elder brother on Balmorra, who served as the Senator for the planet, the new head of state requested she return to Balmorra and run for the office of Senator to represent the planet's galactic interests. Adhira had resisted the call to run for political office for many years, preferring to work behind the scenes. However, the growing populist sentiment on Balmorra troubled her and threatened to disrupt the flow of centralization that Adhira believed was necessary for a strong galactic government. The populist threat also worried many of the prominent figures who pressured her to run. She eventually conceded to seek office after a personal appeal from then Chancellor, Elek C'rel. Her Press Secretary agreed to follow her to Balmorra and oversee her campaign.

To the surprise of many, including Adhira herself, her candor in the debates and in front of the press endeared her to the working-class people of her planet which saw her defeating her nearest populist opponent by more than 30% allowing her to take office outright without a run-off election. Despite her initial resistance, she was happy to find that political life was not as difficult to stomach as she had initially thought and endeavored to accomplish as much as she could during her term.

Adhira assumed office days before the treaty with the Alliance was solidified and ensured a centrist majority in the new Galactic Alliance Senate for the time. Adhira spent many fruitful years as a member of the Galactic Alliance Senate, first as a simple Senator from Balmorra and later as the leader of the Federalist Voting Bloc. She artfully wielded the authority of this ever-growing bloc of Senators, all the while acting as a close confidant and ambassador of then-Chancellor Emmen Tagge.

As the Federalist Bloc grew, and Emmen sensed his hold over the Senate waining, he relinquished power and, though opposed initially by the Corporatist-Populist supported Gat Tambor Gat Tambor , Adhira eventually - handily - won the election with an overwhelming number of votes. Immediately, Adhira set about consolidating power in the Executive Branch, using her authority to negotiate the return of several planets from other factions until finally, the Core was reunited.

SHIP:
Adhira possesses a diplomatic-style cruiser used to transport her throughout the galaxy. The interior of the ship consists of luxurious sleeping quarters and meeting rooms utilized for official business during travel. It has no weapons capabilities as the ship is often escorted by fighters from Balmorra or the Alliance depending on the nature of her business. The ship is manned by members of the Senate Security Forces.
