Public Annual Eshan Baazar

eac29e625b5a888d83d3405597f811f3.png

Deep in the mountains, in a basin surrounded by snow, Eshan's capitol buzzes with life. The crisp winter air smells of hearth fires and the chattering of people drift from the main city square. Spring is still a few months away but the sun warms the artistic buildings overhead. A Bazaar has come to the city. Tables have been set up along the snow banks. Vendors from around the galaxy have come to showcase their fun and unique items for sale.

Noelle entered the square, her chest rising and falling with a deep breath. She always did like the smell of cold winter day. It made her feel light.

She glanced over her shoulder and found a tuffle of blonde hair squirming stubbornly in their caretaker's arms. Noelle puffed a silent noise of amusement at her daughter and continued her walk forward. The girl had barely found her own feet and already all she wanted to do was run around and then away.

It was a handful at times but Arsi, the nanny, could handle it today.

Pterodactyl screeches and all.

"She is probably hungry," Noelle commented absently, stopping to linger across a table with ivory carved pins.

Back on Eshan.

She wasn't really expecting to return so soon after her trip there with Kahlil Noble Kahlil Noble , but she had heard about the Bazaar and wanted to check it out before going back to Coruscant. She wasn't quite sure where Kahlil was this time around, but she could feel that he was out there somewhere in the Galaxy.

Perhaps she could get him a gift, or something for Vera. Maybe even something for the kids they were planning once the war was over. Either way, there were lots of reasons to go shopping, so she wandered around alone with a smile, and passed by various stands to see what they were selling.

Where to begin?

"She seems always hungry these days." August murmurs with amusement as he boops the little baby's nose and then joins Noelle as they walked through the market. It seemed to be an annual thing now. Every year they'd set this up to open Eshan's economy towards new insights and opportunities for people to get involved.

"I hope her wanderlust doesn't rival her hunger though."

Maybe it was premonition or maybe it was the exhaustion of being up all night basically... every night. But sometimes August thought he saw a very mischievous glint in his daughter's eyes.

It was quite something to behold.

"So, what do you want to check out first? There is a ton of stuff going on here. I saw someone selling... minerals?" Not exactly what August expected to find on the bazaar, but- "I have always wanted a pet rock." Thoughtful there as those calm grey eyes scanned the market. It was a bit difficult to find the right place.

Hm.

They really ought to draw a map or something.

THe bazaar was well it wasn't a south systems run by Danger Arceneau Danger Arceneau but it could be decent enough and who knew there might be some fun with it here. She certainly was going to have it as they set up the demo for the Shielding Units that they could use and put on display with Adamentite Variant Strain E and Adamentite Variant Strain K targets set up and two of the shields to display the single and duel unit properties. THey had brought some of the other things like Force Seal Tattoo ink to let some of the kids running around have face paints and surprise their parents. One of the Biot Boxs was there on display as it produced one of the biots to serve as her store Assistance Biot and show off their Frontline Projector. There was their fabricators making food and items using the Materia and the Materia Variant. There was bolts of their Hypermembrane for protective clothing and their Kirano Interface with Smart Interface upgrade to it and their popular Survival Kit. THe jedi master was able to walk around and knew that Sor-Jan Xantha Sor-Jan Xantha was here which meant she would at least have one person she enjoyed hanging around with.

"Of course not, she is the heir." Noelle dismissed, with that same absent, matter of fact tone. She turned over an ivory hair clip to study the clasp. Eshan was known for its impeccable standards with crafted goods, but sometimes outsiders bumbled their way in and her hair was too thick for their flimsy, cheaper designs.

She couldn't have her hair come undone at court.

"A pet rock?" She echoed, her brows pulling in. She slid the vendor a coin for the clip and admonished up at him, "Isn't that for children?" Her lips twitched in subtle amusement, endearment hidden somewhere in her words.

Thelma was a bit surprised she had managed to secure a booth. The annual Eshan Bazaar was renowned throughout the galaxy, and she figured the space for vendors would be limited and exclusive. But she had applied for a spot anyway, and her moxie had been rewarded.

Her booth featured mannequins displaying some of her best work, as well as holograms of clothing she had made and gifted to others. Thelma herself sat behind the table, upon which was mounted her trusty sewing machine. Bolts of fabric lined the shelves behind her, in all manner of colors, textures, and materials.

Naturally shy, Thelma kept herself occupied. The sewing machine whirred as she stitched blue fabric, creating a simple garment in full view of the passerby. She didn't mind people watching her work.

The Cat Knows Where It's At
The Bazaar would prove a most profitable event, noodles were a galactic favorite - universal even. The white-socked feline lazily yawned from her perch directly above the cart's patrons. In addition to its typical menu offerings, the cart was offering Seollal specials in honor of the lunisolar celebration.

  • Mew Noods: Seollal Specials
    • The Taiia: Rice Cake Soup + Fried Fish Fritters or Fried Shrimp Fitters [5.25 GC]
    • The Salara: Short Rib Soup + Egg Pan-Fried Zucchini Bites or Egg Pan-Fried Tofu Bites [5.25 GC]
    • The Lightside: Quick Dumpling Soup + Fried Fish & Shrimp Fitters [6.50 GC]
    • The Dark Side: Beef Radish Soup + Egg Pan-Fried Zucchini & Tofu Bites [6.50]
A small, nearly hand-scrawled, as the one who had written the scrawl, was in fact, a droid. The cat's ever-faithful IG-88 droid. A note read that each of the Seollal Specials was served with Nabak Kimchi (Water Kimchi) and the customer's choice of rice punch, or a cinnamon ginger punch, along with a small sampling of traditional Seoularian New Year desserts. Such as Yaksik, a sweet rice treat with fruits and nuts, Dasik, tea cookies made from ground sesame seeds and sweetened with honey, and Yakwa the deep-fried pastry that was covered in a ginger-fused honey syrup.

While the droid and his partner refitted and refurbished IG-11.

Outstretching its body along the cart's awning, the cat slowly rose onto all four paws. It jumped down onto the small wooden board clearly designated as its landing spot. The orange and white feline watched as people stopped by the cart and debated whether or not they would order. Some continued on, and others ordered and were delighted with their choices. The cat watched and continued to observe the Echani and non-Echani alike.

It wasn’t until her honeymoon on Naboo that Amani had realized just how little she actually left the confines of Coruscant for anything other than a mission. Her livelihood offered little time or reason to break that routine, but with big changes already underway, she decided there would be no better time to try than now.

The timing of the Eshan Bazaar lined up nicely, and was an easy backdrop to throw herself in front of. An offer was extended to Alicio Organa Alicio Organa to tag along if he so wished, but at the moment Amani was off browsing solo.

Of the many vendors posted throughout the square, the one that caught her eye was a familiar face. Amani did a double take, before moseying on up to the padawan’s stall, “Thelma?” She asked, out of surprise rather than uncertainty, “Didn’t expect to see you here. What’s goin’ on?” The mirialan remained cordial, if tentative. She still hadn’t quite figured out how Thelma felt about her since that night in the Healing Halls.

Eshan. Merely saying the name of the planet brought back memories. Miri had attended the Echani winter solstice festival as a teen many years ago, accompanied by her late father.

Now she wandered the bazaar with her own children strapped to her chest in a carrier, her gaze roving over the goods on display. Echani craftsmanship was rightly praised; there were plenty of fine wares to choose from. Approaching a vendor selling brushes and combs, her fingers traced the delicately carved wood and bone.

The arrival of a rather large entourage in the vicinity - well, larger than one would expect, at least - drew her attention. Though the Queen was surrounded by her retainers, Miri had a good angle of the monarch in the midst of it all. Somewhere in the Nimdok family albums was a photo of Miri making a funny face - with a younger Queen Noelle in the midst of taking a sip of her drink in the background. Dad had snapped the picture.

One of the twins mewled. Miri turned her face to kiss a round cheek and reached up to touch a tiny foot, heel and toe fitting neatly into her palm. It looked like Queen Noelle had a child of her own as well, if the blonde-haired little girl held in the arms of a servant was indeed the heir. Well. Time marched on. The last vestiges of girlhood had left them both; they were grown women now.

Miri turned back to the vendor, picking up a brush and testing the boar-bristles with her thumb.

In all the glory, all the fear that surrounded the myth of the Emperor - there was a deeply misguided understanding of who he was, and who he wanted to be. Eshan was the home of the Talon's - a name he had adopted in his own marriage to Srina Talon Srina Talon . Rhysion, a beautiful symphony of words that kept his spirit grounded in the light of mortality and dreams - all while his body decayed and his power in the Dark Side grew fat.
His mind was split a thousand ways, beings over a thousand worlds consumed in spirit by his overwhelming control of the Force - when his people screamed his name in their Churches, it was not misplaced for he had become a God in many senses. None of the ways he liked. The curse of his nature made him live a life not of his own design and being, but by consuming and destroying the mind of another to feel... normal.
So he experienced it, for all he could, through the eyes of another. Eyes black, covered by dark glasses, as he walked through a bazaar looking over goods he would have liked to purchase were he a normal man, with a normal life, and a normal family. Instead he looked and did not touch, begged but did not speak the words, and cried but did not weep.
As he moved, he hid his impression in the force well. It robbed him of his strength here, but Eshan was far from his body and mind. There would be little he could do if he chose to - but his presence could still be felt by the masters of this planet. As they always could, as they always would - he could not escape their persecution for the crimes he has comitted.
Walking by one bazaar, he felt the drawing pull of a familiar essence - one he had fought before, one who had cut him down the next. There was that nagging sensation to abandon this body, another to strike her down, but another to speak to her. He froze in his place with these choices, jaw clenching in the vessel he had subsumed of will and autonomy - and then slowly moved to stand next to her. She would sense who he was, he would have no doubt, but he would speak to her none the less.
"Do not panic.", he said in a casual tone as he reached out to look at a small statue - carved in wood, the depiction of an ox. A toy for a child, a decoration for a normal home not lined in gold.
"Do you often get to do this?", he asked, perhaps much to her surprise.
"Shop. Live. Experience life.", but he did not look at her as he spoke. Instead his thumb ran over the ox again, the shop keeper smiling at him before returning to other duties - trusting that he would pay for it if he so chose. Because to someone who could not smell the corruption, he was but just a man here. Not the monster he truly was.

“Thelma?”

Immersed in her work, there was a few seconds' delay before Thelma lifted her head. The furrows of concentration in her brow deepened with uncertainty. "Master Ser—er, Countess Organa?"

“Didn’t expect to see you here. What’s goin’ on?”

Thelma glanced toward the garments on display, as if they explained everything without having to say anything. But eventually she did answer verbally. "I'm selling custom-made clothing. The earnings go to charity."

Was there a market on Eshan for hologaming?

Inquiring minds wanted to know!

By that, he meant the marketing department. So here was, in the Six Sisters, trying to get a sense of what the possible interest might be. Who knew, maybe by the end of the bazaar, they'd be negotiating a contract to return for a hologame and holovid convention.

Of course, hologaming was only part of the portfolio. The obligatory comlinks were on display, wrist links, smart links, mini-datapads... but clearly, the focus was on the various hologame systems that dominated the Corellia Digital booth. From the old to the new, and then the versatile Switch.

The company's over-the-ear music player was also propped up near information about Holoflix and HikHok as well, both of which paired well with the corresponding apps on the smart links.

Maybe later he could explore just what Echani cuisine was like. Perhaps Matsu Ike Matsu Ike would have restaurant recommendations.

Had she been here before?

She was older than dirt, so she'd probably been here before.

Eshan's market reminded Ishana of all those years ago in a market on Quesaya. "Remember when we first met?" Asked Ishana, but a single look and she knew that Kaalia certainly recalled the moment. "Jumping across the rooftops, you demanded I answer you, after having kissed and dashed." A chuckle rolled forward, the Balmorran had left the Kro Varan in a confused state, to say the least. Eshan was by far a lot calmer and nearly thirty years of marriage later things in the Pavanos household were quieter than ever. "Still can't believe Gideon's gone off to the Academy," which is what Ishana chose to believe.

Rather than the fact that it was likely Gideon was trying his luck at obtaining command with whatever government he could convince to give him one. "Guess that makes us empty-nesters, habibti." Ishana's hand slid into Kaalia's fingers threading together. The pair strode through the bazaar stopping occasionally to browse through wares. They shared knowing looks and glances, and inside jokes, and continued on their way. Along their way they passed by Darth Empyrean Darth Empyrean and, Valery Noble Valery Noble .

Ishana gave the Jedi a small smile and wave.

"I'm really starting to think we should've started up that cookie company," remarked Ishana as she looked over at the food court, "Darkside Cookies... What? Too on the nose?" A small pause as she offered another name, and whispered, "Sith Sweets." Into Kaalia's ear. "Okay, well, I'm just saying, it'd be a great opportunity, wait, I got it. Galactic Cookies."

The look from Kaalia said it all.

"Right, we can work on the name later..."

With a tanto and lightsaber concealed under her robes, Aoki Mira traversed the markets as a mere shopper. This was quite the wonderful market. Some stalls had dedicated Atrisian culture weaved into it; and many more stalls were rich in many more cultures. Mira turned a corner and came upon another series of stalls.

She paused at a stall with a lovely selection of noodles and foods. The style of dishes reminded her of home. She sat down at the traditional looking booth and started scanning the menu. While the name of this place was... crude and lacked taste, she had to admit that these dishes looked delightful.

Seafood... another feeling of home...

Feeling nostalgic today, Mira looked towards the droid vendor and spoke in a gentle yet poised tone.

"Yoroshiku onegaishimasu. Pleased to make your acquaintance. May I place my order?"

She also noticed a cat nearby. Deeply loving of animals, Mira hoped for the opportunity to pet it. She had always been more of a cat person.

Amani smiled and waved her hand, "It's alright— I technically still use both names," She glanced between the padawan and her displays expectantly during the awkward pause. It was easy enough to figure out, sure, but she was just trying to make polite conversation.

"Charity?" She leaned in for a closer look at the samplings, "Well your work is lovely. I remember hearing through the grapevine that you were a dressmaker," Something she always meant to inquire about further, but it never really came up. Amani brushed her nose, "I have been thinking about expanding my wardrobe lately… Do you think you could help with that?"

Winter wasn't for field work, at least not of the digging-for-soil-cores, mapping-with-frozen-fingers, trying-to-find-outcrops-covered-in-snow kinds.

The field work that involved a columnar space heater and a covered stall was just fine with Asori, especially now that she had finished set up and was situated in a camping chair behind the counter with a thermos of hot cocoa in her hands. She wasn't drinking just yet but the finger covers of her mittens were pulled and buttoned back so that her skin could drink in the warmth unrestricted.

Laid out on tired shelves before her was a colorful and wonderful array of rocks and minerals that she had collected since her undergraduate days, through school and on independent adventures. Most of the specimens were rough--besides being more useful to a geologist in their natural habits, she was of the sentimentality they were also most beautiful in that state--but a good number were polished and/or sculpted.

The Cat Knows Where It's At
When Aoki approached the cat had been in deep observance of the bazaar. Admiring its beauty in a wabi-sabi way, the aromas from the cart were no doubt alluring to those who passed. A small mew came forth from the felinoid as it took the opportunity to walk toward the humanoid. The droid bowed and greeted, "annyeonghaseyo," the automated voice returned in its binary tone toward the Mirialan, "please, I am happy to take your order when you are ready."

An inviting mew came forth from the cat, then another, this time almost as if asking for permission. After all, what better way to view the bazaar's offerings than on the shoulder of a willing soul? The droid would have been quick and efficient in its order-taking while its partner the IG-11 would have started on the meal right away. The orange-and-white furred creature awaited the Mirialan's response, patiently.

"Mommy should be right around.. There she is, you see her?"

Kahlil flashed a grin up towards Vera, who was currently up on his shoulders. Getting quite the view from so high up, at that. She grinned wide, nodding quickly as she pointed a finger right towards Valery.

"Mmhmm! She's there! With the bad man. .. Is she okay?"

Bad man? Kahlil raised a brow as he glanced from Valery to the figure beside her. And frowned. Oh. He stepped over, right behind Valery. Gently nudged her before giving a grin. This was an event. Sure, there'd be people here of the dark. They weren't all Sith, right? Even if Vera had a bad feeling, no reason to jump the gun.

But he wasn't going to let her stand alone. This was supposed to be a surprise for her, anyway!

"Hey. Guess who wanted to come to the baazar?"

Vera didn't hesitate to throw up her hands with a wide grin.

"Me! It was me! Hi mommy!"

"Do not panic."

Valery froze and didn't look away from the collection of toys on the stand in front of her. The presence of the man next to her was one she recognized, and it instantly made her feel conflicted. A part of her wanted to throw him around with the Force and end things once and for all, and another didn't want to disturb what was happening here today. She also lacked her usual gear and held no lightsaber, so this was no ideal time to fight.

Ishana Pavanos Ishana Pavanos then passed by, and Valery offered her a dip of her head before looking back down at the toys.

"Not nearly as much as I'd like," she told him in response, but before she could say or ask anything, something far more familiar called out to her through the Force. She brightened up almost instantly and turned to see her husband walking over with their daughter on his shoulders.

"Me! It was me! Hi mommy!"

"Hey, little star!" Valery reached over and briefly took her off Kahlil's shoulders, just so she could hug her daughter. "I'm so happy to see you both. I was looking for gifts for you two, and maybe your siblings." She chuckled, and for just a moment, forgot who was also standing nearby. When she realized it again, she turned and looked at him with a very different kind of expression.

One that told him that if he'd cause trouble now, he wouldn't just be fighting a Jedi, but a mother protecting her child as well.

"Come on, you two want to go look around at the other stands?" She stepped closer to Kahlil and quickly pressed a kiss against his cheek, before letting Vera climb all over him to get on his shoulders again. "Maybe some plushies and toys? Or hmm, I still wanted to get you a bracelet we can use for those picture albums too," she told her husband.
