GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Distribution: Common
  • Length: Minuscule (15 seconds minimum to a maximum of 10 minutes runtime per recording)
  • Description: HikHok was a social media platform owned and operated by the Corellia DIgital corporation and released in the 870s ABY. The site served as a self-publishing medium for individual content creators to release short holovids, ranging from mere seconds to no more than 10 minutes, that were further divided by genre. These holovids supplied commentary or original content on music, holo-entertainment, politics, or memes.
SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Author: Various. HikHok is a creative platform in which individual registered users ("content creators") record and post holovids.
  • Publisher: Corellia Digital
  • Reception: Varies. Reception to the social media concept as a whole was mixed, with some expressing frustration at what they perceived as a waste of time or a dangerous source of misinformation on the Holonet. Others praised it as a platform for expression and saw it as giving disenfranchised groups a voice. Reception to specific holovids varied according to content. Reception regarding the self-policing of the social media community varied according to those who advocated unlimited free speech and those who desired a stricter application of moderation for posted content.
FORMAT INFORMATION
Holovids posted to HikHok were typically amateur films that were recorded using individually owned holoprojectors, such as those built-into popular "smart comlink" devices of the period.

CONTENT INFORMATION
Content on HikHok was organized according to genre, with further division supplied by the ability to create groups. These sub-groups were referred to as "sub Hoks" and typically represented organizational associations or fandoms. For example, Darkwire and the Jedi Order were two organizations known to have sub Hoks on the platform as of 874 ABY. The videos posted to the site were generally unregulated; however, the was a term of service or TOS regarding use of the social media platform which each content creator was required to consent to when registering their account. Holovids found to contain information in violation of TOS were removed from the site.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
HikHok
was a social media platform that operated on the Holonet in the latter part of the 9th Century ABY.

Launched by the Corellia Digital corporation, itself a telecommunications conglomerate, the concept behind its marketing was to further incentivize use of its hololink line of commlinks, all of which had integrated holoprojectors. The concept was for regular people to supply the content through holovid recording their daily lives (holojournaling) or supplying commentary to existing holo-entertainment. The volume of original content that followed was unexpected, but the company quickly adjusted the incorporate a broader scope to the platform.

The group feature and the creation of the so-called sub hoks cemented the social media platform's presence in mainstream culture, with fandoms and organizations leveraging the service to communicate with their members and provide new content relevant to their shared interests. Criticism of this feature included that Corellia Digital was further incentivizing the creation of "echo chambers" on the holonet and a sanctuary for misinformation -- both things that the company's TOS was intended to try and address, but actual implementation of moderation was mixed, as inappropriate content might be posted for hours or days prior to being reported or discovered by a moderator.

In 874 ABY, a user named @jediboi4827 posted a HikHok showing Matsu Ike Matsu Ike 's non-traditional return and landing on the planet Kashyyyk.
