[1]
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Shadow Crusade, also called "Akaan'werda" in Mando'a, began Sector shortly after the Liberation of Mandalore. The civil war was instigated by the Dar'manda called "Apollyon the Betrayer", whose proclaimed loyalty to the Sith Empire and her opposition towards Mand'alor the Reclaimer.

MASSACRE OF CLAN LOC - Early 864 ABY

The first battle of the war was fought in approx. 863 ABY on an unnamed planet within the Mandalore sector, When Mandalorian Union forces were dispatched in response to a distress call from Clan Loc. By the time Unionist forces arrived on-world, The majority of Clan Loc had been killed either in battle or summary executions by blaster, blade or flamethrower. Unionist forces killed a number of Death Watch warriors during the battle, but were unable to intercept Apollyon's withdrawal. Survivors such as their Alor, Kragr Loc, would later be absorbed into Clan Krayt.

DECLARATION OF THE SHADOW CRUSADE - 863 ABY

In the wake of this devastation, The Union rebranded their own Death Watch-derivative into The "Nite Owl Reformation", a reconstituted order of Mandalorian warriors led first by Darsch Vizsla, and then by the recently risen Alor Aloy Vizsla, who led the previous dispatch to aid Clan Loc.

The Nite Owls were given the duty of protecting the Mandalore Sector from all threats both foreign and domestic as a Quick Reaction Force and dedicated operatives in the effort to track and kill Apollyon, with Aloy Vizsla reporting directly to Mand'alor the Reclaimer. This mission was called "The Shadow Crusade" from it's very inception, and the Nite Owls were to oversee and spearhead the war from this point onward.

OPERATION RETURN - Late 863 ABY

The Nite Owls had tracked the movements of Death Watch to nearby Wayland and Serreco, prompting a large Unionist military operation dubbed "Operation Return" by the Mand'alor. The operation would have consisted of a two-pronged assault on Serreco to disable Sith-remnant anti-orbital weaponry that was recaptured by Death Watch, and an assassination of Apollyon in the old sith fortress of Mount Tantiss on Wayland.

Unionist assets had already inserted into the system prior, waiting to strike until the arrival of a fleet commanded personally by the Mand'alor as a diversion.

Mandalorian operatives advanced quietly through the jungle of Serreco under the cover of intense storms, while the Nite Owls simultaneously began an effective assault on Wayland's Mount Tantiss by airdropping mandalorian shock troopers via jetpack.

The unionist operation on Serecco was met with a violent ambush led by Apollyon herself, catching them in the open as Death Watch warriors rose from covered fox holes to engage them in CQB. The resulting slaughter saw many Unionist mandalorians fall in battle until the arrival of Mand'alor the Reclaimer himself, which rallied the surviving unionists against the ambushing Death Watch. Despite this, they were now without reinforcements due to the intensity of the storm above.

A blood duel occurred between Apollyon and Mand'alor the Reclaimer, but later became a stalemate, Though both Wayland and Serecco had been liberated by the union successfully. However, The union suffered devastating losses, seemingly including River Kryze, lover of the Mand'alor and adoptive mother to Aloy Vizsla. Using this sudden loss to her advantage, Apollyon was once again able to escape.

Without news of the trap on Serreco, The Nite Owls continued their assault on Mount Tantiss. They were met with an ambush of their own as Death Watch reinforcements bombarded the fortress courtyard with wrist rockets and missile launchers. Aloy Vizsla was able to rally her forces in a safe location, battling any grounded Death Watch until reinforced by House Solus. This allowed the Nite Owls to breach the inner fortress and achieve victory shortly after.

DISBANDING OF THE NITE OWLS - 864 ABY

Believing her mother to be dead, Aloy Vizsla began voicing her criticisms of The Mand'alor's judgement and that of the Union's standing army, which she believed contributed to the seeming loss of River Kryze. Distrust grew between them and House Vizsla gradually lost influence within the Union government. The Nite Owls were seemingly disbanded, and with Death Watch activity having grounded to a near halt during this time, Aloy Vizsla retired to her home on Roon to attend family affairs following the birth of her child.

Mand'alor the Reclaimer vanished sometime after, to even Vizsla's surprise.

SECOND REBELLION OF MANDALORE - 865 ABY

Taking advantage of this momentary weakness, Apollyon struck again from the shadows, attacking infrastructure and economic stability in a way that caused the Union's total collapse. During this time, a splinter group calling themselves the "Death Watch Crusade" rose within the sector, warring briefly with their Sith-cousins and forming an alliance with Aloy's House Vizsla due to the familial relations between the Ex-Nite Owl and one of the Crusade's prominent leaders.

The two splinter factions arrived on Mandalore just as the Unionist Remnants began to abandon the planet. House Vizsla and the Crusaders sought to claim abandoned equipment and data. In particular, Aloy sought to recover Nite Owl data and weapons caches from various coverts around the system, While the crusaders began to virus bomb the invasive Graug left by the Sith Empire.

Though the Graug were thought to be successfully purged, not all their objectives had been achieved.

Unionist forces were believed to have open fired on The Crusade, and though the Nite Owl caches were recovered, the plan was put on hold with the arrival of Apollyon the Betrayer herself, who sought the data among Aloy's ancestral home, which she believed could lead her to The Darksaber.

In the end, Apollyon escaped with the data and wounded some Vizslas, while capturing both Kranak Vizsla and Stardust Solus, Aloy's sister-in-law and Alor of House Solus.

They would later be rescued by Aloy Vizsla and the Nite Owls, but at the cost of Aloy's own capture.

THE WAR OF 1313 - 865 - 875 ABY

The Shadow Crusade is lead by the wife and daughter of Aloy Vizsla- Tan'yill Vizsla and Tae'l Vizsla- for several years after they follow the remnants of Imperial Death Watch to Coruscant's underworld. This later stage of the crusade saw Death Watch hunted to near extinction by the pair and their allies, but Apollyon herself remained hidden and Aloy under torture until many had given up.

It wasn't until Tae'l recruited the aid of a slicer expert named Shot Sutaz that they were able to track Apollyon to her lair on level 1313. Here, they assaulted the Death Watch safehouse and freed Aloy Vizsla, whose condition was too severe to give chase.

It fell on Kranak Vizsla to pursue the fleeing Apollyon, who followed through a Nether Gate into the ancient Vizsla stronghold for the dead: The Steadhold. It was here that Kranak Vizsla found Apollyon after she had discovered The Darksaber among the dead. Where it had once developed a Force Bond with one of the legendary Vizsla ghosts that transcended even death, It now belonged to Apollyon by rite of combat. The two engaged in a lengthily duel, both fighting until Kranak Vizsla dealt the killing blow, retrieving the legendary Darksaber and ending the Shadow Crusade once and for all.

The tale of this crusade was recorded in many different ways among the Mandalorians of varying factions, but the most prominent is the Song "Akaan'werda".

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

OVERVIEW
The Black Fleet was founded by Aloy Vizsla during the late stages of The Shadow Crusade as a means to remain in the fight to defend Mandalore despite the disappearance of Mand'alor the Reclaimer. Because of this, the original fleet had been designed as the ideal pirate fleet in that it was suited to hit & run tactics. While some still believe it be a roaming band of pirates, In reality they are the instrument by which Vizsla has carried out unsanctioned black ops ever since.

The Black Fleet itself was named after a Rogue Imperial fleet of the same name, which was active from roughly 4 ABY - 17 ABY.

The naming of this later Mandalorian fleet had a double meaning: The first was a call out of Mand'alor the Reclaimer's supposed "Black Hand" Order, A rumored special operations unit that Vizsla believed to have never existed, as it fulfilled an identical role to House Vizsla's Nite Owls, who served as the secret police of Mandalore until the order briefly disbanded. In choosing this name, they believed it would cement themselves as the only true operatives of Mandalore at the time while still playing into the legend, as they haunted Mandalore long after the Mandalorian Union abandoned the system. It is also for this reason that the fleet's Black Hand emblem was chosen.

The second meaning of their name was simple: Strike fear into The Empire. As many of their early ships were in fact captured Imperial vessels after Mandalore the Reclaimer's disappearance, House Vizsla reasoned that both the black fleet of old and their new fleet had something in common, This being that both fleets once served The Empire in some way before being turned against them, Playing once again on ghost stories.

NOTABLE BATTLES
The fleet saw varying degrees of success in raiding Imperial logistics after the union's collapse, leading some Mandalorians such as Clan Saxon to brand them as mere pirates.

In the shadows however, The Black Fleet had been arming and even fighting beside Rebel cells across the galaxy since it's inception. The most publicly known example being the Arming of Lothal against Imperial Remnants, which allowed the fleet safe harbor in that system until it fell it fell to the Empire of the Lost while The Black Fleet was crusading elsewhere in the galaxy.

It is known however that they have engaged Sith-aligned vessels of their own accord, seemingly without the benefit of a lawful defense contract.
They fought Final Dawn over Tshindral for possession of Beskar that was being shipped to Sith-aligned factions in the region. The fleet was instead caught in a surprise ambush, but successfully escaped with only minor casualties.

While unconfirmed, they were rumored to have partaken in the raid on Yhuuzan'tar, also to reclaim Beskar from foreign hands, though there were Mandalorian combatants on both sides.

Later, the fleet's honor was called into question as Tensions rose on Kestri between the fleet's founder and members of Clan Saxon over conflicting motives: Aloy's desire to avenge her daughter's death at the hands of The Sith, and The Enclave's intent to wage war against the Galactic alliance, resulting in an honor duel that resulted in Vizsla's injury. This prompted the fleet to declare Akaan'gaan, and withdrew support from the enclave at large. From early 902 ABY onward, The Black Fleet refuses to recognize any and all authority, save for their own admirals.

Sometime later, The fleet was deployed to stalk the Lorardia System while hunting for Mawite-Death Watch remnants. At the same time, First Order vessels entered the system in search of the same prey. Asteroids wreaked havoc on the sensory data of both sides, and having mistaken an oncoming frigate for a returning Mawite ship, The Black Fleet immediately boarded the vessel, beginning a three way battle between the Death Watch remnants, First Order and Black Fleet. The Black Fleet was able to escape with plundered goods once again, intent on expanding the fleet during the long period of silence that followed.

904 ABY saw the enclave's interests attacked on ma'ar shaddam attacked by the sith order, prompting The Black Fleet to return in a brief alliance that saw them fighting side by side with Clan Saxon in a twist of fate that was not to last. Survivors from the evacuating clans of independents were recruited into the fleet with a promise of vengeance, and the fleet vanished before enclave officials could meet them after the battle.

This same year also saw rise to the Mandalorian Protectors lead by Mand'alor Ijaat Mereel and the resurrected Mia Monroe, the former of which Aloy Vizsla had met once before. The Black Fleet immediately returned to Mandalore and attended a gathering of clans to determine the worthiness of the cause. While cautious of this new faction, The Black Fleet pledged it's support in ridding the system of Sith remnants, if nothing else. The Black Fleet saw much success, even raiding an imperial shipyard among the many moons of Shukut with an unexpected ally, Valery Noble, which resulted in the capture of a heavy star destroyer that would become the fleet's flagship.

This unexpected alliance came in wake of the Caldera Crisis when the Sith Order attempted to expand through the Tingel Arm via undead hordes using a modified strain of the infamous Blackwing Virus.

The Black Fleet would go on to see many victories against the undead horde and the sith fleet transporting them, participating in the Mandalorian Protector's defense of Krownest and Feriae Junction which saw many sith vessels destroyed and all infected or sith crew eradicated without mercy, as well as many joint Galactic Alliance-Black Fleet operations that saw the fleet it's own place among the War council of Taris until the planet was besieged by an undead surprise attack. The fleet paid a vital role in establishing and holding landing zones across the planet.

"I plan to catch them when they fall"

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Unit Name: Black Hand Marines
  • Affiliation: The Black Fleet
  • Classification: Naval Infantry
  • Description: Mandalorian warriors with a loose paramilitary structure, frequently employed in boarding operations. Black Hand Marines can be recognized by their distinct Handprint-like emblems and Dark Blue accented armor. Most are Mandalorian outcasts or disillusioned soldiers who were taken in by the fleet at their most desperate. Now they are guerilla warriors, carefully selected by the fleet and hellbent on avenging Mandalore.
COMBAT INFORMATION:
  • Unit Size: Large(100)
  • Unit Availability: Uncommon
  • Unit Experience: Trained
  • Equipment:
  • Combat Function: Deployed as guerilla fighters and Boarding parties, preferring quick and brutal strikes against unsuspecting enemies via aerial drop or engaging in intense close quarters battle within an enemy vessel, as these are often the targets of The Black Fleet. Typically they are deployed in squadrons of 10 warriors each, led by a Rally master who is distinguishable by a small red column marking on their shoulder. All rally masters report to the unit's single Field Marshal, distinguished by a yellow or gold column on their shoulder.

Each squadron is issued one Support weapon to suppress enemies. During planeside operations however, a single AT squadron may be equipped with 3 rocket launchers and missile firing jetpacks, and are deployed to flank and hunt down enemy vehicles.

  • Force Abilities (Force User Units Only): N\A
Strengths:
  • Armored - Comprised entirely of Mandalorian warriors, Black Hand Marines are well armored for and equipped with versatility in mind.
  • Voidborne - Equipped with magnetic boots, rebreathers and jetpacks, serving aboard naval vessels for extensive periods has prepared these warriors for void based combat and close quarters battle inside the confines of enemy broken ships.
  • Mobile - Being equipped with jetpacks and enduring rigorous flight training, Black Hand Marines are able to cover ground with frightening speed.
Weaknesses:
  • Fish out of Water - The average marine of The Black Fleet spends months in space, and only days planetside, and this is reflected in their training and doctrine, which leaves them ill prepared for extended fighting on land compared to other Mandalorians.
  • Does not play well - The fleet's recruitment process targets those in conflict with more influential factions among the Mandalorian people, achieving loyalty by giving a home to those at risk of losing it. Because of this, tensions sometimes rise between the marines and other Mandalorians, leading most to become distant and unsociable toward outsiders, preferring to rely on support from other Black Hand units.
  • Doctrinal deficiency - A marine is at his best when he is on the attack. The fleet slips behind enemy lines, striking hard and fast to bring chaos before vanishing without a trace, and it's marines reflect this. They have been on the attack since the defense of Mandalore failed, and now it is all they know.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The ancestor of the Black Hand's Marines were more akin to mercenaries, hired by House Vizsla during The Shadow Crusade as part of their unsanctioned black ops against Death Watch and to supplement the now disbanded Nite Owl forces. Those who stayed to see the formation of The Black Fleet were given the title "Marines" and often saw boarding actions during the fleet's early acts of guerilla warfare, Such as the attack on The Final Dawn vessel "Black Ice" above Tshindral III, being their first public appearance since adopting the name.

Black Hand Marines were also engaged with the First Order frigate "Reaper" during the Battle for Lorardia, where they demonstrated the brutality of their boarding tactics in a precision strike on the command bridge.

However, it was the Ambush on Garel prompted the gradual shift towards planetary tactics.

While there were no active marines deployed during the skirmish, the allied Mandalorians fighting beside Viper Team would go on to join the fleet as a means to avenge their comrades who fell during the battle. Clans like these would see an influx of new marines within the fleet, prompting an effort to standardize the fleet's equipment and doctrine. Now they were an official piece of the fleet's military structure in more than name, and looked the part.

  • Origins: Kamino
  • Average Lifespan: Approx. 50 - 60 GSY
  • Estimated Population: Planetary
  • Description: Similar to a variety of humans and near-human species from which they are cloned, typically athletic or otherwise muscular compared to average members of their donor species, though may include rare defects such as unnatural hair or eye colors and sometimes rare skintones in near-human strand-casts.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type-I Atmosphere
  • Average Height of Adults: Approx. 5'9" or 175.26 cm
  • Average Length of Adults: N\A
  • Skin color: Varies by donor species, may include rare skintones among near human or hybrid strand-casts.
  • Hair color: Varies by donor species, may include rare or unnatural colors, especially among hybrid strand-casts.
  • Distinctions: R-Series Strand-casts typically have an identifying tattoo in black ink(or white ink on darker skintones) at the back of the neck, consisting of a paired Aurebesh designation characters followed a dash and a series of numbers. The paired characters represent the strand-cast's product series and purpose, such as "CT" for "Clone Trooper" and "CC" for "Clone Commando, while the numbers represent the individual strand-cast and often served as an identification method in lieu of a name. Later generations also include a single Aurebesh character at the end to represent which laboratory produced them, as the company was able to expand production. The representing letter at the end was typically derived from the first letter of the laboratory's name, such as "B" for Bayal Laboratory, where the R-Program was first launched. When more R-series facilities were established, they began tracking the progress of R strand-casts and assigning individual numbers separately, meaning that it was possible for two individual strand-casts created in separate facilities to have an almost identical tattoo with the only difference being the final letter, sometimes leading to confusion among groups of R-series strand-casts during joint training exercises.
