OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION
  • Military Base Name: Mount Tantiss
  • Classification: Military Fortress
  • Location: Wayland
  • Affiliation: The Sith Empire
  • Population: Heavy
  • Demographics: Mount Tantiss is operated and garrisoned by Imperial personnel, both Human and Alien, though the most notable include:
  • Accessibility: Being a Sith-Imperial military installation, the base is only accessible to civic or military personnel in possession of the correct clearance codes
  • Description: Rebuilt from the shattered ruin of the once great mountain, the current Mount Tantiss is a Sith fortress whose purpose is to ensure the Empire's law is upheld on the war-torn world and provide a base of operations for further anti-Mandalorian operations in the region. More than half of the natural mountain is gone, with the gaps filled in with large fortifications and gun towers. Much of the surrounding area had been cleared away to make way for vehicle bays and flight hangars, connected to the mountain installation by an underground tram system. The Empire did not bother to recreate the lost cloning facilities or storage vaults, and instead, dedicated their space to power generators used to maintain the weapon systems and deflector shield which protect the base.
POINTS OF INTEREST
  • Main Entrance: A massive hundred-meter tall blast door guards the primary thoroughfare into the mountain, further protected by gun nests and a winding corridor of force field gates. The controls for the door were hidden behind a quadruple-reinforced bunker situated near its base, which could only be accessed from the inside via a series of interlocking gates requiring two access keys simultaneously to open.
  • Hangar Bays: Located both on the mountain's surface and across the wide flat expanse beyond it, these hangars could launch shuttles and fighter craft with relative ease at a moment's notice. Their primary task was to ensure that the base was well-defended in the event of a fighter assault, though they were primarily used to transport cargo and soldiers to and from off-world.
  • Landing Fields/Assembly Areas: The fields beyond the mountain were rendered flat to ensure that ships that were too large for the hangar bays could land without issue. Doubly, they also served as assembly areas for large amounts of soldiers and walkers.
  • Command Tower: Tall and broad, the command tower for Mount Tantiss operates all of the major facilities both inside and outside of the fortress. An advanced communication suite ensures that the mountain's commanders can remain in touch with the Imperial defense fleet anchored in orbit, as well as make long-distance communications outside of the Wayland system.
  • Main Hold: Nestled at the center of the mountain was the primary residential quarters and mess halls for the base's garrison and contained all of the amenities that a soldier of the Sith Empire would require. An army of servitor drones ensured the interior of the base was kept immaculate and utilitarian, with any infraction of conduct being recorded for later reprimand.
  • Shield Generator: Projected from a relay dish near the apex of the mountain, the base's shield generator could produce a protective energy shield that covered the entire mountain and a large swath of land around the mountain. The shield was strong enough to deflect sustained bombardment for several weeks, if not months. Ancillary generators ensured that the shield would remain operational even if the main generator was damaged, destroyed, or otherwise rendered inoperable.
SECURITY
  • High
    • Mount Tantiss is protected by an energy shield strong enough to withstand sustained bombardment and is ringed with turbolaser emplacements and anti-personnel laser cannons.
    • A garrison of battleground strength (8,192-9,216) is permanently stationed at the mountain to police and defend the premises, though Imperial forces often utilize the base as a staging ground for grander operations.
    • Three starfighter wings (72 each, 216 total) can be launched from hangar bays situated on and around the mountain.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Under the auspices of the Mandalorian Clans, especially Clan Australis, Mount Tantiss was refurbished into a nigh impenetrable stronghold that was considered second only to the Clan's homeworld in terms of importance and defendability. Even after the fall of the United Mandalorian Clans, the mountain retained its notoriety as a resolute bulwark against the rising tide of Sith-Imperialism encroaching from the northern sectors.
However, even it would come under direct assault from the Sith Empire.
During the heated battle, the mountain was destroyed by Clan Australis in an attempt to deprive the mountain of falling into the Empire's hands. More than half of the geological landmark was destroyed, blown outward from the sheer amount of explosives needed to cause such destruction. In the aftermath of the Mandalorian withdrawal, the Empire occupied the ruins of the mountain and waited for orders on how to handle what remained.
Undeterred, the Empire went ahead with rebuilding the savaged mountain and establishing a strong foothold on the wild and untamed world. When it was completed, the Empire dispatched a garrison to occupy the mountain and left behind a sizable defense fleet to protect their newly acquired gains.
