Kyrayc
Rb5ppZG.png

Kyrayc is a planet that has known destruction. A failed weapon's creation had once brought down civilization, but the people of this planet proved ever resilient and rose from the ashes like a phoenix. It is now a flourishing world with a variety of entertainment. But this history is neither here nor there to the SJO. It is what lies outside city bounds that left the citizens calling for Jedi aid.

Outside of the city are a variety of caves. In the mountains miners collect precious Uridium, a valuable substance that costs lives to mine out. These caves host a collection of dangerous creatures. It is dangerous work to collect this metal from the rocky mountain side, but for some workers, its their only choice.

Hidden in the Tundra region is a crystal cave containing a variety of different crystals, including kyber crystals. Much like its sister caves in the mountains, these areas know danger. Wampas roam the area-- powerful, furred bipeds that kill indiscriminately. Can you say big foot, anyone? Worse than that are the blizzards that ravage the area. Surely one should dress warm if they intend to venture deep into this region.

Objective 1: The miners have seen an increase of dangerous creatures within the mountain caves and require protection as they work. While the creatures of the mine have always been dangerous, there seems to be something that is making them more aggressive than usual. Find out what is causing the creatures to become more hostile and protect the miners. Avril and Purella are what will be encountered the most in the caves, though on rare occasions, a Gorax could be encountered.

Objective 2: The Tundra region is the home of the crystal caves, with Kyber crystals being a popular resource to search for within the caves. This is a good opportunity for Masters to take their Padawans to obtain their own Kyber crystals in order to create a lightsaber for themselves. This won’t be an easy task though. It’ll be difficult to transverse the Tundra region with it’s blizzards, and Wampas are located both inside and outside of the caves.

Objective 1. Find out what is causing the spike in agressive behaviour from the local wildlife.

Helping others was many things to a Jedi, a duty, honour and in many cases. A pleasure. As was the case for Aaran. May it was the upbringing on a farm. Such a small isolated community where everyone did their part and relied on each other. When one could do some extra work to help another. Everyone benefitted. So when the chance to go spelunking in a cave that could be full of dangerous creatures was placed in front of him. There was little the Padawan could do except say yes.

He was strong, he was quick with a blade. And he did always have a knack for dealing with animals. Empathy was something that came easy to him. The hope was to get an idea of what might be causing the animals to act out so much. Perhaps then they could root out hte source of the problem. In an ideal world, everyone wins. The miners go back to work and the animals can go about their business.

Deciding to shed his usual armour. Aaran stood at the mouth of the mines. Clad only in his trusty flight jacket, cargo pants and boots. On his belt lay his saber, resting and deactivated. In his hand was a Glow Torch, held aloft to illuminate the shaft ahead of him. "So. Anyone know how far we need to go? Or where exactly the critters have been acting ornery?" He asked, craning his head back to the others who joined him.

Varindar, probably as a result of mostly staying to the hotel and venturing out to fight underworld figures on occasion, never had a lightsaber to call her own. However, she would stick out like a sore thumb because she was not a padawan, whereas everyone else that was there with her, would be. And yet, she purchased an entire kit of lightsaber parts, schematics and other things that would be useful in getting a functional lightsaber to work, prior to going on this venture. Plus she had the opportunity to use another power to keep her body warm, derived from what she was using in the kitchen on Trandosha or on Corellia: tapas. Presumably, she would know about the physiological consequences of prolonged use of tapas, because the use of the power will increase one's heart rate due to the energy requirements of keeping oneself warm, and sometimes increase a lot if the user has an untrained cardiovascular system. But why is it that there has been nobody that tried to use tapas to maintain or lose weight? she thought, feeling her own heart rate (and blood flow) accelerating as she was using it.

"I'm Varindar. I'm a bit odd in that I never got a lightsaber built, but I can always show you a different power that will keep you warm for a bit: tapas"

Objective 2: Crystal hunt

This was all new to her so she was just going with the flow at this point in looking for a crystal to hopefully build her own blade later down the road once she learns how to do so, Her time among the coven prepared her thankfully for harsh environments and hand to hand combat however she was with a different group with different rules, rules that would have to be taught to her but for now she simply walked with her group keeping her senses alert for any hazards as she looked around to the people she was with so far was Varindar Asyt Varindar Asyt but she kept to herself unless approached. She merely gave her a respectful bow in acknowledgement before keeping her Pike in her hand at the ready incase the wildlife decided to pay them a visit.

She had a tinge of darkside aura to her due to her species but it wasn't much to write home about for the time being.

Objective 2: Crystal Hunt

The master stood before the group, skimming the faces with a slight smile to her lips. Tapas were indeed a great way to stay warm, though she didn't expect every padawan to be capable of such a task. A basket of gloves and hats laid at her feet. Just in case.

It was cold out on this frozen tundra. She got the sense someone would need it.

"Please be careful inside these caves. There are Wampas bigger than myself hidden among it. If you do not carry protection or do not feel you are capable of protecting yourself, please follow WelshGuy WelshGuy or myself for today's task. Our objective is very simple. Walk and listen. Finding a crystal is a birth right for all of us. Do not over think this. Your crystal will call out to you through the force. Just empty your minds," she coached patiently. She gave them each an encouraging smile, then turned and started walking in with no further ado.

Many would already feel the singing of a thousand crystals from inside the cave, their resonance in the force unmistakable.

"Partner up! And don't forget gloves."

Objective 2: Search for Kyber Crystals

Corte had been a Padawan for quite a while now and had, had many exhilarating experiences - however, the one he longed for most was to have a lightsaber that he could call his own. When he heard of the party going to the mountains to search for the rare crystals, he didn't hesitate to don his cold winter gear and pack his blaster pistol. He looked around at the group and decided that he hadn't had classes with any of them how odd that after all this time that I still don't know everyone! He always made it a point to try and get to know his colleagues, but he apparently was lacking. After listening to Master Elise talk about listening for the crystal to call out to each individual, he did just that to possibly get a direction he should start walking. He took a moment, closed his eyes, cleared his mind, and listened........"I think I'll go this way," he said to no one in particular, "who will join me?"

Objective 2

Acaadi looked down at his hands. He couldn't imagine forgetting his gloves when the cold was already sending little jolts of pain through his bones. Perhaps if it kept up he would lose all sensation in his hands and wouldn't be able to tell if they were gloved or not.

"I might" he said to Corte. He was a good few years older than the rest of the padawans and carried a blaster on his hip easily. It seemed sensible to stay close when the masters said there were wampa around. He'd seen a holo of those things. In a horror flick.

"But I might follow my own path," he said quietly. Ever seen the incident with the trandoshan he had been focusing on projecting outwards with the Force less. Telekinesis any other powers that affected the world came easily, but that power was tempting. Acaadi had since been focused on his control, both mental and physical. He tried to listen to the Force and let it guide his hand instead.

Today he needed to find two crystals, not one. He needed to concentrate.

Objective 1
Location: The mountain mines

Dangerous creatures within a cave that are causing harm to the miners trying to make a living? Sounds about right. When there are valuable resources that are up for grabs, people usually put their lives at stake to acquire them. The Mercenary had been on a few jobs like this one. This one seemed to be a little different though, with the creatures apparently being more aggressive than they usually are here. Even with that being the case, it shouldn't be too difficult to protect the miners and find out whats going on. There were enough capable people around after all.

Masaru answered the question of one of the Padawans as he walked towards the group. "From what I understand, we won't have to go too far within the mine in order to encounter a few creatures. We'll probably see an increased amount of them the further we go in. Just stick with the miners and you're bound to encounter something." Masaru didn't stop when he reached the group. Instead, he kept walking and entered the caves. Usually he would stick with the others and work with them, but the Warrior decided that he would go ahead and see if he could find whatever was bothering the creatures, protecting any miners and sending them back to the rest of the group along the way. The others would most likely stick with the miners the whole time, so he should be able to move ahead. Besides, Masaru liked to work on his own most of the time.

With the information they had on what type of creatures were in the area, Masaru came equipped for the job. He had his sword and a blaster assault rifle. He sported a set of his own armor this time instead of the heavy Ranger armor he preferred. It wasn't as good as the heavy armor he usually wore, but he wanted to be light on his feet for this mission. If they encountered a Gorax in these caves and were attacked, the heavy armor wouldn't be as useful as it would against blasters.

Objective 2

Kyra paused at the cave entrance, her gaze transfixed on the dark path leading within. The call of the crystals resonated through her, muffling out the rest of the world from her typically overwhelmed senses.

Her usual high energy seemed dimmed today. Perhaps she was distracted. Or maybe there was a lot on her mind.

She already had her first saber crystal. It was Yuroic that suggested she come out for a second. Something told her this was less of a necessity and more of a kindness. She had not been permitted to join the last public session. Where she should have been proud, she was instead subdued. She glanced over at Acaadi, matching his somber mood with a tight look of her own.

"We can all go together," she told the paddies around them. She did not recognize many of their faces, which made them newer or hermits. How strange it was, not to be the new group anymore.

She gave them all a friendly smile, nudging her head towards the cave. "We already have a set," she gestured to a saber at her and Acaadi's waist. "We'll watch your back." Until their own crystal called them away. But that was okay, she thought.

She nodded at Acaadi, then started walking. The darkness of the cave sufficed her. She summoned a small ball of light in the air besides her. Up ahead, she say Master Elise do the same as people shuffled by and paired off with who they wished.

Beltran stood at the mouth of the cave complex, looking into the impending darkness. His features, though masked by his black helmet, held their usual stony countenance. This wasn't the usual type of mission Beltran undertook for the Antarian Rangers, but recovering from the blaster bolt he'd taken on Myrkr not so long ago, had left him at less than his usual level of competence.

It annoyed him, not being at his best. Jedi Dragonsflame had been somewhat helpful, giving him the use of his arm back during the battle, but when he'd returned to Kashyyyk he'd been told that the injury had caused significant nerve damage. There had been a brief conversation about cybernetics, but Beltran would be damned if he let anyone put more machines inside of him. Bacta helped, and eventually would return full function to him but it was a slower process than he liked.

Even his unexpected promotion to Lieutenant hadn't done a lot to clear his annoyance. As he stood behind the Jedi Padawan, Aaran Tafo Aaran Tafo , looking passed him and into the cave, he resisted the urge to sigh. He'd only been cleared for duty a day ago, but when his Commander, Valkren Calderon Valkren Calderon had asked him to come on this mission, he'd agreed-if only to get out of sickbay.

When the Padawan spoke Beltran cocked his helmeted head to the side, unsure of what to say. Before he had a chance to answer, another man walked up to them and then passed them, speaking exactly the words that Beltran would have. The man carried himself like a Ranger, but the Lorrdian didn't know him. That didn't mean much, however. There were a lot of Rangers that Beltran didn't know.

"Yeah," He said a moment later, his voice coming out with a metallic quality through his helmet's vox modulator. "What he said." He then stepped past the kid and moved into the cave about ten paces or so behind Masaru Varga Masaru Varga . He toggled his helmet's HUD for low-light vision and carried his weapon at low-ready. Calling out loud, behind him for Valkren Calderon Valkren Calderon -who he assumed was bringing up the rear he said.

"Can't say I've ever been hunting before, how about you Commander?"

Commander Valkren Calderon emerged into the mouth of the mine behind the others, three members of Hades platoon following up behind the commander in almost identical Katarn plating to that of Beltran and Valkren. The only difference was their past units' additions to the armor painting, an almost sorting of different 'graffiti' and signatures among their armor, along with tally-marks of kills and intricate death-related paintings. These pipe-hitters were really of the hardest cut. While the three special tactics rangers also held 'Fate' variable strength assault rifles, the commander let his own hang across his back; instead the slightly older soldier referred to his old republic roots and brandished a heavy blaster cannon. He leveled the barrel of the larger weapon once he entered the mouth of the mine, shoulder and barrel mounted flashlights both providing a lit way for the party momentarily. He'd refer to his HUD's abilities' later.

Up ahead, he'd witness as Aaran Tafo Aaran Tafo and Masaru Varga Masaru Varga took the lead into their team's section of the mind, which before long prompted his friend Beltran Rarr Beltran Rarr to move more towards the front.

Masaru, although he hadn't directly met him before, was known to Valkren by simply the battles fought along side one-another. He had a different sort of respect for the warrior- which he hoped was mutual. He had seen him in numerous battles he had also participated in, so Valkren knew the man's worth.

He wasn't about to let them get all the action though. Still maintaining his vision on their rear, he knew the three members of Hades would also keep their six covered. He'd give a quick pat to Aaran Tafo Aaran Tafo 's shoulder before passing by him; shining the light attached to his cannon barrel up the wall to the left of them, briefly admiring the construction while the party passed. He shined his weapon back ahead and kept up his pace to keep up with the others in the strike-team.

Lieutenant Rarr's voice reached his ears, easily audible to Commander's ears due to the lack of any actual sound in the tunnels.

"Aside from Sith? Once- On Alderaan." Valk' could almost visual a simpler time while briefly recalling his childhood during their movement, short-lived as it was though.

"Before my pops and brothers deployments we would go hunting in the woods that surrounded our land. A sorta' right of passage." The commander spoke as he looked down momentarily to watch his steps carefully. A drawl came through for a second at the end of his statement, something commonly heard from Valkren if one spends enough time around the ex-farmboy. Plenty of time away from home had almost erased any hint of an accent, but hints were still present.

"Wasn't exactly legal at that point."

It was almost a welcome relief to be on a planet with frozen tundras. Like an odd homecoming of sorts for Major Vass, if she were to consider Illum home. As it was, it was simply a more, comfortable environment for herself and Captain Atlan, the both of whom had spent countless hours running survival and combat drills in raging blizzards for the better part of their careers now. It was almost a sort of sad thing when they had entered the mines, trading the wind for damp caverns, it certainly made Caelag more than a bit uncomfortable being a sniper. Caverns didn't tend to have long sight lines, mine or not, that were of much use to her. Even so she kept her rifle on her, the weapon resting in her hands with all the comfort of a child and it's favorite doll. She similarly carried with her both her sword and lightsaber, the two melee weapons resting on the belt of her armor. The former's scabbard was exceptionally heavy for what it was, but she was at least somewhat learned to manage the thing well enough.

Speaking of her armor, it had taken more than a bit of use of a silver tongue, but she had managed to get permission to use her own personal armor for the mission. While she technically had no qualms using the standard katarn armor of the other rangers, the suit still felt foreign even after so long in it. Perhaps that was the cost of changing times, and going from one army to another, but herself and other former soldiers of her former platoon still felt more comfortable in their old garments. The difference being the others' jump was less, drastic. However considering her personal armor was arguably more suitable for the cold environments, she had managed to get permission to use it for what she had to assume amounted to a 'test run'.

Either way, it was a welcome comfort to feel the rancor leather instead of durasteel.

Alongside her as she joined the group walked Captain Atlan, the Gand looking about calmly as they caught wind of the discussions. Unlike Vass, he wore the proper Katarn armor, albiet with the addition of his findsman cloak, and his fingers tapped anxiously along the side of his weapon. Neither he nor Vass had thought to turn on flashlights, as neither really needed to do so, with Atlan only deciding to do so himself once he caught sight of the Commander.

She gave a small gesture of recognition to the padawan Aaran Tafo Aaran Tafo as she passed, trying not to let it be obvious even through her visorless faceplate when she furrowed her brow at Beltran Rarr Beltran Rarr ... or more specifically the dark spot on his back. Maybe someone would pick up on the subtle way she gripped her rifle tighter, but she didn't make a comment on it either way. It wasn't her place to comment, especially with the Commander here. To Valkren Calderon Valkren Calderon she offered a small, familiar nod. The two rarely worked together, at least proximity wise, but they had at least shared the odd task before.

Like the others all seemed keen on, she moved alongside Atlan to the front end of the group, though more so as to have a clear line of vision through the Force. Being what she was, she didn't want any particularly bright or dark spots from the others to interfere or mask something coming up. For Atlan, he just wanted to be able to see tracks if they existed before the collective group stampeded over them.

When the topic of hunting came up, despite not being asked the question directly, she chose to comment on the Commander's response. "Didn't peg you for a rule breaker, Commander. I don't have to give you after school detention do I?" A bit of humour on her part, by now most who had met or worked alongside her on a regular basis were aware of her admission to the Rangers. She'd come to the SJO under a false name, masquerading as a school teacher. Not that she wasn't, she certainly had spent plenty of time as one, but it tended to be hard to give mathematics homework when you were going to be deployed more often than not. "Personally I prefer hunting Sith. People tend not to like rifles like mine stalking the woods,"

Alyssa walked cautiously through the cave her senses on high alert as she knew what to expect inside the caves. She had already thought of a few reasons why the animals were attacking the miners but she had debunked a great majority of them seemingly getting nowhere in her renditions. She bore her usual peach-colored sweater its lose composition much too large for the small girl. At her side dangled "Tann" her blue Lightsaber its blade still in wait. Hopefully, if all went well she wouldn't have to utilize it today.

Alyssa was genuinely surprised how many people could fit in this one passage and how diverse every one of them was. She had chose this mission solely based on her ability to connect with organic life so she should be able to calm a few of the beast's down without violence. She noticed the group was talking about hunting, without a doubt a play on the job they were sent to do. Alyssa felt small everyone here looked so much more experienced than her, She felt as though she had something to prove to show her worth.

She wanted a better view of the action, partly so she could see what was ahead and party because her neck was getting strained from having to try and peek over her peers. Rather recklessly Alyssa squeezed past those on the back end of the group.

"Sorry! Excuse me!"

She pushed forward her small body pushing past those in front as well. She hoped they weren't mad, after all, she just wanted to be the first one to spot danger before any of these edgelords blasted it into oblivion. The cave was darker than she originally anticipated, it was like trying to see through a blanket of ink. The Padawan was going for her lightsaber when she bumped into a wall...A fork in the cavern. Two pathways and 6 people, Easy math.

"Hey! Since there are 2 pathways and six of us, So three on each!"

She surveyed the paths for a moment her searches futile as both pathways were equally shrouded in darkness.

"Well...Hmm. You can't go wrong when you're going right!" The girl offered a coy smile before skipping along the right pathway.

Red walked in the middle of the group. He had his usually armor on, along with his helmet on. His visor was currently set to thermal imaging, so he could see any heat signatures from any possible hostile lifeforms. Their group was... a ragtag, quickly thrown together one at that. But they were all experienced soldiers, well, almost all of them. Red fell into the experienced category, as he had seen many battles, and he was actually raised to be a supersoldier, and a combat machine. His genetics were actually suited to combat. Of course, he was most likely sent on this mission for his survival skills, as he had picked up many survival tactics in his twenty something years in training in the labs to be a supersoldier. Of course, his experience would be a valuable asset in these caves.

He looked around the group. He hadn't met any of them, but he could tell by the way they walked, by the way they held themselves, by the way that they acted to the others, that many of them had definitely seen their share. Another asset of Red, he had the uncanny ability to read people. It was in his genetic code. He made a good detective. Also, he could use the Force to often times sense their real emotions.

Then, one of the ones Red deemed to have less experience, Alyssa Shinobu Alyssa Shinobu , pushed past him. She was a padawan, like him. She seemed naive, but with a positive energy.

Then, the group stopped at a crossroads. There would be two groups. One going to the left, and one going to the right. Then, the small girl ran off to the right. "Hey, don't run off!" Red yelled after her. Red turned to the others. "Right, we best go in. I'll take the right path with the small girl. We need one more person, then the teams will be even. Any volunteers for the right path?" Red asked.

The Mercenary took out a small flashlight to allow him to see better as they moved further into the cave. Eventually, they reached a fork in the cave, which made him stop for a bit. He would have asked one of the miners what the paths lead to and which one they use more frequently, but one of the young ones decided to split up the team to explore both the pathways. Not a bad plan at all, but the young one went off to the right side before everyone figured what the groups would be. "Hey, wait! We haven't figured out the groups yet!" Another member yelled out to her, followed up by him saying he'd go with her and asked who else would accompany them.

Masaru cursed under his breath, realizing that he probably would be working with others after all. He turned back to see everyone else with them. There was the other young one that asked the question about how far they would need to go in, and the Mercenary didn't think it would be an even team if he sent him with them. Still scanning who else was with them, Masaru saw Valkren Calderon Valkren Calderon , someone he trusted and respected. They didn't know much of each other since they didn't interact much when not on the battlefield, but fighting side by side with people is the best way to gain trust....for the most part anyway. Nonetheless, the Ranger was someone he could depend upon. "Hey Valkren, long time no see. I'll go with the kid that ran off and this guy. That sound good to you, or do you have other suggestions for a team?"

In truth, Masaru probably could stick with his plan and go on his own. And even though he was worried about the Padawans, he knew that they could handle themselves and probably give him a run for his money. That doesn't matter now though. The young one running off has gotten him worried. Ughh, what happened to the lone wolf warrior Masaru? You know, the one who didn't feel the need to keep watch over people who could defend themselves? The mercenary waited to hear from Valkren before moving on, wanting Valkren to be comfortable with the group he had. They both knew they didn't need to be comfortable with people to get the job done though.

Responding to Kyra, Corte said, "Agreed, we should stick together. Who knows what cave dwellers we'll find in there." Noticing her lightsaber, he asked, "Are you planning on making a second lightsaber?" Just then, he felt as if somebody standing next to him had told him to enter the cave and proceed down a mine shaft that was less travelled by the miners, possibly one that was considered a less productive. He had heard it as clear as day.....if this had happened to be a clear day! "I think we ought to talk to the miners and go down a mine that is considered less productive for them.....call it a hunch."

Beltran had come to a stop at the split in the cave network, moving to the wall of the cave to allow the others easier access. Looking back, he overheard Commander Valkren Calderon Valkren Calderon , speaking with one of the others, a woman he'd never met but who seemed to know the Commander well enough for conversation to flow easily.

Beltran was able to notice the slight hesitation in her body language any time her gaze drifted toward him. It was subtle, but noticeable to a man who's species official language was body language. It didn't bother him over much. Beltran had never really fit in anywhere and it didn't really bother him. He was what he was, and what he was-was a killer.

As Commander Calderon responded to his question, Beltran listened quietly as the other man spoke about his home. He knew only a little about Valkren's background. Enough to know that he'd been raised on a farm on Alderaan, but not much more than that-though it was more than what Valkren knew about him, he imagined.

"We had a saying back home," The Lorrdian replied once both his Commander and the Jedi ( Caelag Vass Caelag Vass ) had finished speaking. "It's only illegal if they catch you."

By this point, group was starting to come together. At one point, a young woman ( Alyssa Shinobu Alyssa Shinobu )-a girl really-ran passed him and and down into the right passage. Someone called out to her, but to no avail and soon she was far enough down the path that Beltran couldn't easily see her. The other man, the one who ( Masaru Varga Masaru Varga ) Beltran had followed originally into the cave, spoke to Valkren suggesting who should go where.

Beltran didn't have an opinion on the matter. Left, right, it didn't matter. So he waited quietly for the Commander to answer.

"I don't think we'll find many miners around these parts," Acaadi said quietly. He flicked on a wide beamed torch and swept it across the ground ahead of the group. The footing looked treacherous. It was uneven and slippery.

He gave Kyra half a sideways smirk at her ball of light. She was better at that than him now.

There were several branching paths ahead. They weren't deep enough yet to find the kyber crystals they sought out so there was no point splitting up just yet.

Acaadi slowed his breathing, trying to recreate what he had been practising back at Silver Rest. He came from a colony of mirialan and the spiritual side of their culture had never fully resonated with him. Now, as he tried to seek the guidance of the Force it felt closer.

His awareness stretched out ahead of them, feeling the branching corridors. Nothing came to him at first, but slowly each cold tunnel, devoid of life, started to take on an emotional character. Joyous success, bitter dissapointement, danger and fear.

"I suggest that way," he said to Amani, Corte and Kyra, swinging his torch around to light up a smooth passage that headed down at a steep angle.

Following the group into less-rich tunnels, so as not to draw unwanted attention, Varindar feels like her body is not in its normal state, and that she may wish to advance cautiously in the face of critters that lived in the mine shafts. It was, to be sure, a thing to keep in mind and, without a lightsaber, she would need to rely on pyrokinesis to defend herself if needed. Yet, it was one thing to use pyro for cooking, it was another to use it in a fight. But most everyone else had at best limited a limited skill level in these powers, so it would partially fall on her to protect the whole group. As they advanced through the network of tunnels, it had occurred to Varindar that these tunnels were abandoned because their contents were mostly exhausted. And, for this reason, she can feel that they still had a way to go.
