Farworlds Alliance
A beast tore the ground of Refuge open. Now ancient scars are open for all to view. A primordial evil waits within, eager to resume its dark designs.

When the Suma-Verminoth ripped the earth of the ancient ring world asunder, the dim interior of a forgotten structure was exposed to the light of day. Jalen, well trained in Force Sight, could feel the many chambers below that had been sealed for what may have been tens of thousands of years by now. He would be tasked by Matthew of Valendale Matthew of Valendale to enter, and would lead others into the facility to explore it's depths in an impromptu expedition. When he stepped through the mouth of the gateway the blind Jedi Knight ran his hand along the worn, though surprisingly sterile surface of the wall. It lacked ornate carving, only simplistic geometric grooves. The structure was brutality, as though the people who had constructed it were highly militarized.

Worst of all, things were alive down here. Dark things. Jalen could feel their presence in the Force, even as they lay in stasis. Perhaps the beast was in stasis as well, the heavy machinery from the construction somehow damaging the means by which it was being contained.

"There are two large chambers to the East and West of the structure," Jalen relayed. North and South on refuge were the longest lengths of the ring respectively. "We'll split up and investigate either. Just... mind yourselves. I can feel large support pillars everywhere. They stretch deep. I think this place was anchored into place a long time ago... maybe even when the ring was made."

Who knew how long ago that was.

"I'll take East," he finally added after a moment of silent thought. "If you find something strange, subdue it if you can. We'll learn more from it alive."

Now all that was left was to enter and brave the depths.

Normally, Ashley would insist on bringing her whole platoon. Normally, she'd insist they don't split up.

But there was work to be done.

Instead, she had handpicked a team of five.

Herself, because she wouldn't make anyone do anything she wasn't willing to do.

2nd Lieutenant "Boxer" Clark Skyskipper, her oldest friend and the only person she could trust to lead in her stead if things went south.

Specialist "Mouth" Ran Kelt, an ammo bearer from first squad that she had picked mostly to keep the mood light, but also because she needed to get him away from his squadmates for a while. The lack of combat had been keeping him bored. And when he was bored, he filled his time by talking. Always talking. Never saying anything, just...talking.

She needed to shut him up.

Specialist "Grenade" Bombock, a woman she picked for the opposite reason. The wookie never said a word, but she knew how to wrestle a rancor if need be into submission, and carried enough grenades to cave them in.

Corporal "Shotgun" Tese Gramda, who she picked mostly because she knew she'd be the only one with enough experience with explosives that she could deal with actual cave ins without killing everyone.

And finally, Corporal "Devil" Voz Nul, because if they were diving into the depths of hell, Ashley wanted the devil to come with them. Even if it was just symbolic.

"We'll be taking west." Ashley said with a sigh, looking to her men. Mouth was already rambling off about some weird thing he'd read on the holonet about cave creatures and how the caves on Tatooine had some sort of dragon out of them. Ashley didn't pretend to care. Instead, she looked to Boxer.

"You think we'll be good?"

"You're always the worrier."

"Someone has to be." Ashley sighed. "You're right, we should be fine."

Novac couldn't be more excited to explore this place. He'd already explored a lot of old ruins but this was different, all the other places he could find at least a shred of information about. This was obviously not on any records.

Going down into the hole novac's takl landed with a soft thud, his hk droid on the other hand jumped straight in landing with a loud clank. Novac just looked at him for a moment like 'really'. Of course the droid wouldn't even try to be quiet. Not like there could be more monstrous creatures down here that could have heard that.

"We'll take the west also." he said as he waved for kairo to follow.

He was half listening to the one guy rambling on about tatooines caves until he heard mention of a creature. "oh you mean the krayt dragons? I've always wanted to see one of those magnificent beasts. To see one of the greater ones thought? the 100 meter long ones is like a life goal almost." he said with a smile.

Shuklaar didn't like this place. It felt...off. He'd been around all manner of foul before, but this place felt...worse, somehow, and he was no force sensitive. He was perhaps a little more thankful for his armor's micronized voidstone lining than he would have admitted if asked. He knew one thing for sure, there was not much if anything at all that could stand up to the firepower of the MCDC-01 Man-portable Class-D Disruptor Cannon he was hefting around.

He heard the Jetii'ika's instructions, but there was no way in haran he was leaving him on his own to explore that passage by himself. "We're coming with you, ad'ika," said Shuklaar, placing a nav marker over the battlenet for the four
SD-01R 'Gar Ram'ser' Siege Droids in lead to move on. Nothing about his tone told Jalen that he was going to be entertaining any arguments.

Shuklaar made sure to keep enough distance so that he would be out of the effects of the force nullification, as did the droids and the organic troops of Strill Securities. Right behind the droids, a squad of nine ID-01MR 'Gar Verd' Infantry Droids and nine Shocktroopers with 'Lirsa' Tactical/Riot Shields. They moved together, seamlessly, as if they'd drilled together for decades, in appropriate combat spacing, weapons up and at the ready for whatever this place may hold.

Aran was on the surface of this crater with a whole company's worth of armored vehicles and troops, ready to come to rescue if things went to haran in a hurry. If Shuklaar was remembering how things went in the days of the CIS and their missions that went like this, then he was willing to bet a ridiculous sum of money that they would, and spectacularly so. When they did, in the very least they had enough firepower to send whatever was down here straight to haran, or in the very least, bury it down here with them.

As the Onyx Runner dropped down past the stratosphere and into the atmosphere of Refuge, Ran Serys watched the strange and sudden series of events play out on her scanners before she saw the fallout with her own eyes. She had come to Refuge in hopes of providing aid for the growing refugee population, but what she got was a massive hole in the ground, a wreckage of new construction and wasted material and tools, and finally the remains of a giant dead creature. What was left was more scattered than whole. Its main body had been blown to smithereens with only a few inky black tendrils left as evidence. Ran looked on with great curiosity, but not surprise, as she watched the dust settle from her cockpit. She had seen much over her time traveling the galaxy's star lanes, this was just another drop in the bucket.

Taking the Onyx Runner down for a landing was easy enough. It was approaching the area of destruction by foot that proved more difficult. Over damaged structures, albeit temporary structures, construction equipment, and rocky debris, Ran traveled until she reached the threshold of the scattered dead giant's dwelling. She dared to descend even farther until she was upon a group of Farworlds Alliance members and company, the former of which she had the intention of joining up with.

She had joined the group just in time to hear their plan. They would travel into the revealed underground structure, split up into two groups, one would go east while the others went west. They were also to expect danger and to deal with it as instructed.

"I will go east as well." Ran said to Jalen Kai'el Jalen Kai'el and Shuklaar Kyrdol Shuklaar Kyrdol . "I am no stranger to dusty chambers and dark dungeons, and will help in anyway I can." The Jedi explorer and archaeologist announced as she stared into the darkness of the structure. Her mutant yellow eyes glowed like that of a wild animal, and she focused on the ancient architecture of the walls. One could learn a lot about a culture based on what they've built. She could see that whatever ancient culture gave birth to this structure betrayed very little about its workings, which was telling in its own way.

"We're coming with you, ad'ika,"
"I will go east as well."

"Right," Jalen nodded.

No argument would come from him. He was a medic, after all. Efficiency was his MO. He gave a quick 'good luck' to the other party before treading off into the darkness alongside the droids that Breshig had brought along with them. Jalen could feel the Force nullifying tech on Shuklaar. It made him a bit hazy in the Force, which wasn't the end of the world. He'd rather they have the means to shut something down than not.

In the meantime, the blind Jedi's hands studied the walls. He was searching for any symbols he may recognize. Nothing thus far.

"I don't recognize the script," he relayed. "No recognizable characters... This place is dark, but nothing here matches any Sith site I've been in..."

And then he paused, cocking his head to the wall. He rested his ear close and took in the sounds and feelings around him. Some of his expression was masked by the bandage wrapped around his eyes. Blind as they were they still offered some window into his emotional state. After a moment he spoke again.

"Data lines, I think," the Knight muttered. "Some frequency is being sent from one point to another. Something up ahead is being told that we're here..."

Then he simply pressed on.

"Let's keep moving."

Brander had never been on a real 'mission,' let alone an impromptu one. He did, however, want to accompany his new mentor and keep her company.

He did not know much about Jalen Kai'el Jalen Kai'el , but he found it rather funny that they were following a blind man into the depths of the earth. Then again, his own first teacher had been a blind man who did not see things the way most people did… He was uncertain if Jalen was Miralukan like that, though.

There seemed to be a great deal of firepower brought down with them, so he did not feel too frightened about what they might run into, despite the terrifying monster that had burst out of the ground and revealed this place to begin with.

Brander eyed the walls curiously, trying to understand what kind of place this was. The cool air clung to the stone, and the long corridors reminded him, in some manner of speaking, of the facility he had been made in. That place had been built deep underground, too. He did not much care for the safety of walls; he preferred the wide open air.

"So… like a proximity alert? Or even… an alarm?" he asked, uncertain what Jalen may have meant.

He decidedly stayed close to Ran Serys Ran Serys 's side, flanking her just a little to her left and back. He hooked his thumbs into his overall straps to keep his hands busy as he walked along with the group, letting his gaze shift over the strange writing.

"I will go east as well." Ran said to Jalen Kai'el Jalen Kai'el and Shuklaar Kyrdol Shuklaar Kyrdol . "I am no stranger to dusty chambers and dark dungeons, and will help in anyway I can."

"Let's hope that's all it is," said Shuklaar as he watched the picture-in-picture feed coming from the four SD-01R 'Gar Ram'ser' Siege Droids as they moved onward further into the facility. Reconnaissance by force was the prevailing thought of the day, Shuklaar didn't trust the things that were still down here to stay dead. He'd make sure they stayed dead if they weren't so feeling inclined.

"No recognizable characters... This place is dark, but nothing here matches any Sith site I've been in..."

"You know, ad'ika, I really don't think the dar'jetii buit this place," said Shuklaar, memories of the structures they had encountered on Honoghr coming to mind immediately. He didn't know who the shab built them, but he knew for sure it looked like nothing he'd ever seen those sorry shabuire build. He wasn't so sure he liked those implications.

"Data lines, I think," the Knight muttered. "Some frequency is being sent from one point to another. Something up ahead is being told that we're here..."

Shuklaar quickly sent the signal for 'mines' over the battlenet. There was no pre-programmed signal for 'ancient structure with traps' He could clarify over comms, but this got the message across effectively enough that he didn't care to. The whole adhoc formation with him began moving slower, more carefully, checking corners twice. No traps, yet.

"So… like a proximity alert? Or even… an alarm?" he asked, uncertain what Jalen may have meant.

"Just like," he answered. "Only question what that means for us," he added a barely a second later. Shuklaar couldn't shake the feeling that he'd seen this ad'ika somewhere before. He didn't entertain the thought for too much longer, however, preferring to keep his mind focused on the situation. Dusty facilities were not his area of expertise, but he'd seen the mission reports from enough CIS Knights Obsidian missions to not know how these could go.

"Let's keep moving."

"Carefully," added Shuklaar. Not keen on the concept of all of them bumbling into another trap and not sure how well Jalen could feel his way around this facility. This had been precisely why he'd sent the droids in lead, they had a much higher chance of surviving what this place had in store for them and who the shab even knew what that was.

yO08PsK.png
"I don't recognize the script," he relayed. "No recognizable characters... This place is dark, but nothing here matches any Sith site I've been in..."

"You know, ad'ika, I really don't think the dar'jetii buit this place,"

“You’ve sharp eyes, the both of you.” Ran acknowledged. “This isn’t a Sith Tomb, Temple, or other. This place is older than the Sith, much older.” She continued following behind Jalen, analyzing the script for herself. It was the script that gave away how old the chamber was. “I’ve seen symbols like these once before on an archaeological expedition. I tried to decipher their meaning, I even contacted several leading philologists and linguists specializing in ancient languages. It was a fruitless endeavor then. Maybe it’d be different now, but that isn’t why we’re here.” Ran shared, and then stepped away from the walls and walked down the center of the chamber. The script was making her nervous.

She looked at her padawan with just a hint of that nervousness in her eyes. In her experience, the older a place was, the more dangerous it was. And she hadn’t prepared Brander for a place like this. She hadn’t prepared her new padawan for much of anything since meeting him. She’d just have to trust him, and the training he received from his old master, at least for now.

"Let's keep moving."

"Carefully,"

“Very carefully.” She repeated as she looked to her padawan. “Keep your wits about you down here, and stay close,” She instructed, even if Brander was already doing just that. “If for some reason we are separated, trust your instincts regardless if you feel the force with them. Your first instinct is usually the right one.” Ran’s first lesson to the young padawan.

"So… like a proximity alert? Or even… an alarm?"
"Just like," he answered. "Only question what that means for us,"

"Only one way to find out," Jalen noted.

The blind man's bare feet strode across the floor with a calculated calmness as he used his senses to search for anything that may be a trap. Ran talked about the ruin being much older than the Sith, something that seemed to alarm her. Jalen, for all of his assessment, was inclined to agree that it was something to be concerned about. She mused over the potential of translation, though, clearly the academic side of the Mirialan master.

Perhaps when the ruin was clear he would see if Jasper wanted her to study it further.

Abruptly, Jalen dropped into a crouch, lowering his ear to the floor. He ran his hand along the surface for a moment before...

"Movement," he relayed. "Mechanical, legs with points. Hums like droids... they're headed towards us. Get ready."

As they moved further ahead, large spindly legs stepped out into the path ahead of them where the hallway forked. Droids indeed, with tower-like builds and legs akin to the bodies used by the B'omarr Monks. Three skittered out into their path with unnatural movement and began to fire upon the intruders of their home. Rather than firing blaster bolts, however, deep blue projectiles were fired out from much heavier looking weaponry.

Jalen would bring up a Force barrier in front of him, enough to cover himself and Ran and Brander a little bit behind him.

"Whatever that stuff is, try not to find out," he suggested.

"Yeah! Krayt Dragons! Those things! I wanna wrassle one."

Tese just rolled her eyes at the comment.

As the mechanical noise of approaching droids filled the air though, Ashley raised a hand, ordering a full halt and quiet.

Then they opened fire.

One bolt hit Boxer in the shoulder, as the fireteam ran to find cover behind some stalagmites.

"Well screw me like a drill and call me betsy."
Mouth groaned, as Ashley gave him a look. "Right, sorry. What's the word Ash?"

"Jedi, we'll pin 'em down, you engage with that saber of yours and cut those legs off. Grenade! Hit that thing with a 40 ion. Mouth, follow up with HE! Devil, how's Boxer doing?"

The medic gave the RTO a look over, nodding to Ashley.

"Looks like a glancing blow. Carbonite hit the armor, didn't break through. We need to be careful though, those carbonite guns can eat through our armor."

"Peak and fire. Got it. Alright, game on!"

The wookie nodded, poking out from behind her cover to fire an ion grenade at the droid from their underbarrel grenade launcher, before hiding once more. Mouth followed up, firing a high explosive grenade in turn, only a moment later.

"Wrestle one? As in the things that can get over 100.. you know what you do you man. But if you ask me and want a something that you could possibly win against I'd go with a-" Before he could finish he heard the metallic steps and sensed the faint heat coming off of the droids.

At ashleys word novac grabbed his saber, splitting it into two and rushed forward low to the ground. A few shots hit to close for comfort. Igniting his right saber and cutting the leg of the closest he let it fall towards him as he cut the top section with the blaster off, using the rest of the droid as a shield.

Should try not to damage em to much, at least this one. Take it back to his ship later and keep it he thought to himself

Kairo has on the other side from ashley's team providing covering fire to novac as well.

"Yes, Master…" he affirmed her request verbally, catching the concern in her expression. Brander moved a step or two closer, as if proximity alone might ease the worry he perceived in her eyes.

The abruptness with which Jalen Kai'el Jalen Kai'el fell to the floor caused Brander to activate his light-shield. He stepped back, startled by the sudden appearance of the scuttling droids raising his shield uncertain if it may even do anything against what they were firing their way.

"Whatever that stuff is, try not to find out," he suggested.

"Carbonite!" answered Shuklaar as he threw himself out of the way of fire, just in time for the droids in lead to plant their massive sized up 'Lirsa' Tactical/Riot Shields effectively creating a wall of Stesr'gar-reinforced Stygian-triprismatic polymer composite armor in front of the group. Shuklaar didn't need to be on the same battlenet as them to see their weapon mounts swing inhumanly fast toward the hostile droids. A virtual lightshow of disruptor fire followed as they discharged their RCDC-01 Repeating Class-D Disruptor Cannons.

Shuklaar and the troops and infantry droids didn't wait long to join in, they jetted up on jetpacks so they were above the droids, though still behind them and opened fire with whatever heavy weapons they had on hand. In Shuklaar's case it was a MCDC-01 Man-portable Class-D Disruptor Cannon. HFL-02 Heavy Flechette Verpine Shatter Launcher sabots joined in the chaos as the shocktroopers and droids that had accompanied him opened fire.

Heavier weapons fire thudded into the droids, even dropping shields in two cases but for the most part they stayed where they were, resolute. None of them had any intention of letting these droids pass them, intact or not. Shuklaar, his men and the droids were careful to make sure to create a path in the event any Jedi tried to get past them to engage the droids in melee, not that he thought such and endeavor was good idea. Carbonite was nasty.

yO08PsK.png
"Whatever that stuff is, try not to find out," he suggested.

Ran left little time for words when called to action. She acknowledged Jalen’s warning request with a nod before hopping out from behind the force barrier and dashing forward at an almost impossible speed. Through the gaps made by accompanying mandalorian and siege droids, she pounced onto one of the ancient machines, igniting her lightsaber in a flash. Its shining blue blade slashed through the air and sliced at the machine’s heavy weaponry. Instead of the bisection of metal, there was a clash as a red translucent shield projection shimmered into the space between the lightsaber and the droid’s body. Her lightsaber had little effect save for stressing what remaining battery reserves the ancient droid must have maintained.

“Energy Shields!” Ran shouted as she launched herself backward and upward with the force doing her best to escape the freezing threat of a blast of carbonite. “Strong ones!” She warned her fellow Jedi as she dodged volley after volley of frigid blue blasts of carbonite. The air became cold around her as she remained on the razor’s edge of the icy threat, drawing the machine's fire so the others could focus on an offense. Ran would leave the destruction of the machines to the Mandalorians and their siege droids as they were having much more success dropping and disabling shields with their disruptor cannons, than she with her blade.

The initial droids on the front lines were met with Class-D disruptors, and the effect was immediate and violent. The parts that were hit were reduced to atoms, crumbling into nothingness as whatever remained of them was rendered as little more than scrap. The back half of the droids, about twelve left of the original twenty-seven, brought up energy shields or were lucky enough to still be around the tight corner. They set themselves up in a wall to match the Mandalorian force before them, laying down fire to cover the hall.

Literally fire. Jets of flame would erupt from the droids to send a wave of heat towards the invaders. Jalen would react quickly. He brought up his hands to block the flames and push them back, keeping them away from the group. Fire was, after all, his domain.

Even if he feared it.

"Stand back!" he told the group. "It's about to get really warm!"

Jalen would make use of the cover that Ran provided to still his mind and focus. The fire would soon engulf the remaining droids, starting off red. Then it was blue. Then white. The light in such a compact space was enough to hurt the eyes from looking directly into it. What followed was mechanical screeching as the internal components of the droids were fried to a degree that the ancient designers never accounted for. When the flames fell away, extinguished by Jalen's will, only molten slag remained.

"Sorry," Jalen apologized to the group before he tilted his head towards Shuklaar. "You lot have lots of war crimes strapped to you, don't you?"

His tone was intense, but he did smile. Perhaps a poor attempt at making a joke. He was right, of course. Class-D disruptors were very illegal.

"Don't imagine that was the last of them. We should stay cautious."

Seventeen droids emerge from around the corner, advancing on the location of the west party. In the initial first contact, an ion grenade is thrown towards the advancing horde. The closest five are well within range and are rendered immobile. One droid would be quickly dispatched and used as a shield by Novac Lyrikal Novac Lyrikal .

The remaining eleven droids would orient themselves in a wall-like formation, energy projector shields powering up to protect them from incoming fire. Then jets of flame would spew forward, threatening to engulf the party.

While all of this occurs, stalactites emerging from the roof of the chamber shake from commotion...

They'd dealt with flamethrowers before. The old GADF armor was built to withstand them, and Ashley knew that. That didn't change the fact they were outnumbered.

"What's the play Ash?"
Boxer asked, rolling his shoulder to confirm with Devil he wasn't too hurt.

Ashley poked out, looking to the shield wall in front of them. They needed an out.

...those stalactites...

Ashley suddenly pointed her grenade launcher upward, firing an HE shell at the rock formations above. One massive one exploded, causing the rest of it to fall right on the center droid, just enough to break up the formation.

"MOVE!"

The squad rushed forward, opening fire as they pushed through the breakthrough point at the droid's hulls. They weren't intending to keep these things alive, but they needed to keep moving forward.

Despite the sudden danger, it seemed Brander did not freeze in place, at least managing to move. Perhaps there was some fear there, but it sent him scampering about to avoid harm rather than locking him still.

Miraculously… he seemed to be unscathed as he marveled at Ran Serys Ran Serys and the way she moved rather quickly and suddenly out of teh way, filing that observation away for later. He had been privy to seeing a few similar things here and there within the facility, should he ever get the rare opportunity to watch the training sessions that took place between the more capable young soldiers.

He was certainly glad that Shuklaar Kyrdol Shuklaar Kyrdol and his men were on their side, because that was a rather harrowing way to go, he surmised. Brander moved to keep close to his master's side, seeming far more cautious and wary of what might be waiting ahead.

"This place seems like they didn't want visitors…"
he murmured softly to her, offering a concerned look.

Laphisto

High Commander of the Lilaste Order
Laphisto had deliberately allowed several dozen meters to separate his squad from the rest of the western expedition. While the others pressed deeper into the ancient structure, he and the nine Lilaste Order soldiers accompanying him maintained a steady pace through the rear of the column. Every intersection was checked before being passed, every dark recess along the corridor given more than a passing glance. Ancient military installations rarely relied upon a single line of defense, and he had little interest in discovering too late that something had slipped in behind them.

The sharp crack of weapons fire rolled down the corridor moments later, followed by the muffled thump of detonations that carried through the stone beneath their boots. Dust drifted from the ceiling with each distant impact. Laphisto's ear pinned back against the side of his head as a low growl escaped him.

"Move."The order was enough. His squad immediately broke into a run, boots striking the ancient flooring in disciplined rhythm as they closed the distance toward the fighting.

As Laphisto rounded the corner, the corridor opened into a chamber lit by weapons fire and burning gouts of flame. Ancient security droids occupied the far side of the room behind crimson energy shields while chunks of freshly fallen stone littered the ground between them and the western party. The confined passage echoed with overlapping gunfire, the sharp hiss of projected flames, and the metallic groan of damaged machines still pressing the engagement.

Without breaking stride, Laphisto drew the LO-22S hand cannon from its holster. The heavy sidearm thundered repeatedly, each oversized slug smashing toward exposed sections of the ancient machines whenever gaps appeared between their shields. Behind him, the nine Lilaste Order soldiers spread into firing positions with practiced efficiency, rifles coming to their shoulders as disciplined volleys joined the growing storm of kinetic fire.

Only once his squad had begun adding their weight to the engagement did Laphisto raise his voice over the noise. "Apologies for the delay I stayed behind to cover our six. whats the sit rep?" His eyes swept across the chamber for only a heartbeat before settling toward Ashley and Novac.
