OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a tactical/riot shield for use by Breshig War Forge Consolidated, Strill Securities and select others.
  • Canon Link: Riot Shield.
  • Permissions: N/A.
  • Primary Source: Activv1 Riot Shield.
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
STRENGTHS
  • Shield Wall: The shield is built of tough, durable materials and is protected by a Mandalorian power shield, making it extremely resilient in the face of damage. Additionally, thanks to the micro repulsor, the shield can stand on its own or anchor itself to whatever surface is below it, freeing up the operator's hands.
  • Stay Back!:The front of the shield has an electric defense grid and stun field, making it suitable for use in riots and in urban combat by stunning anyone making contact with the shield. Additionally, the wide-beam sonic stunner allows the user to dissuade hostiles from closing the gap, and potentially cause severe damage if they don't take the hint.
  • Useless, Dead, Hunk of...Perfectly Usable Cover: Even if the shield runs out of power, thus depriving the user of a number of the more advanced functions, the shield can still fold and is still a perfectly usable mobile cover.
WEAKNESSES
  • Exposed Sides, Rear: The user's sides and rear are not covered by the shield.
  • EMP/Ion: Powerful enough EMP/Ion weapons can shutdown or severely, potentially irreparably damage the shield's electronic components.
  • Friendlies: The wide-beam sonic stunner, electric defense grid and stun field don't distinguish between friendlies and hostiles, requiring careful use of the shield itself and the sonic stunner.
DESCRIPTION
"You might ask why the shab you need a shield before your first 'urban pacification' assignment. It's not for you, ad'ika, it's so you don't end up killing them."
-Strill Securities Alor'itsad Medrit Kote to then Ver'alor Ruus Kote

Designed for use by Strill Securities troops during urban operations and for dealing with riots and other situations of civil unrest that they were more than occasionally contracted to deal with, the Lirsa has since been adopted across the company for a variety of situations, including defense against enemy boarding operations, and boarding of enemy ships. It is also included in the company's modular brig module for handing prisoners that are out of control. The shield was built out of extremely resilient materials, making it resistant to a variety of sources of damage, from extreme heat, to blaster bolts and slug rounds to even lightsabers.
To aid users in keeping rioters, prisoners or simply giving them an edge in the close-quarters confines of urban combat and boarding actions, the shield features an exterior surface covering stun field, an electric defense grid and a forward arc facing wide-beam sonic stunner. This gives the user a number of non-lethal methods to deal with combatants, and one decidedly more lethal method. Naturally, careful formation and use of the sonic stunner is required to not result in injuring friendlies.
To allow users the use of their weapon, there's a weapon port that's switchable to either side of the weapon that allows the user to brace a rifle-sized weapon against the shield so that they may use it one handed. To further facilitate this, the shield features a micro repulsor to allow it to stand and move without having to be held up, or alternatively the repulsor can reverse and anchor itself to whatever surface is below it.
An optical transducer panel paired to a viewscreen on the rear and a pair of floodlights ensure that visibility is not sacrificed when using the shield since it provides full frontal coverage. The user's sides and rear remain unprotected by both physical coverage and by the hemispherically projected Mandalorian power shield. Naturally, because of all the complicated electronics in the shield, any EMP/Ion damage that manages to bypass it's defenses can cause the electronics to shutdown, or potentially even cause serious, irreparable damage. At that point, however, the shield does not cease to be useful, still retaining its use as mobile cover.
