Dominion Va-Va-Veradune, GA Gains Another Boon | GA Dominion of Veradune Hex

AllianceDiscordIcon2.png

The Galactic Alliance continues its inexorable growth, spreading peace and democracy everywhere they go. The systems of Veran and Adytum are next up to be invited into the family of nations making up the Galactic Alliance. In the system of Veran, the Vitae Alliance, under the leadership of Vulpesen Vulpesen Torrevaso, the rugged and militaristic planet of Veradune is prepared to pledge itself to the Alliance. And close to the Alliance’s border, the one-time First Order colony that flourished into the Renascent Republic has petitioned the Galactic Alliance for membership, raising the specter of ancient battles and a legacy of distrust...

Objectives:

SWRP_Headers.jpg
One - Veradune: Diplomatic Ball (Suggested: Senators / Alliance Personnel)
As militaristic a planet as it is, Veradune is not beyond observing the diplomatic niceties, and has thrown the doors open to welcome Alliance senators and others to sample the hospitality of the people of Veradune. Come and celebrate the union of two peoples at a diplomatic function to remember.

SWRP_Headers.jpg
Two - Veradune: Wilders & Jedi (Suggested: Jedi)
The Wilders of Veradune are distinct from the Jedi, but there is much the two orders could learn from one another. The Wilders have extended an invitation to the New Jedi Order to meet and confer and to explore the possibility of the exchanging of knowledge to better understand each other’s doctrine and force techniques.

SWRP_Headers.jpg
Three - Aegis: The Golden Run (Suggested: GADF, Revenant Squadron, Jedi Fighter Pilots)
As part of the diplomatic mission to the Renascent Republic, the Galactic Alliance Defense Force is invited to participate in friendly wargames with the soldiers and sailors of the Renascent Defense Legion in the space between Aegis and Elea. Rumors of a deadly competition called the Golden Run, racing fighters through the Hesperidean Belt, have reached Alliance personnel, leading some to suggest the Alliance show these backwater Legion pilots how it’s really done.

SWRP_Headers.jpg
Four - Aegis: Metis Discovery (Jedi, civilians, etc.)
By all accounts, the Adytum system was unpopulated when Project Renascence found and began to settle it. There was no evidence of indigenous populations or historical settlement – until now. During excavation of a mine on Aegis’ first moon, Metis, the remains of what Renascent scholars suggest could be a proto-Jedi organization’s temple were discovered. As a show of respect, the Republic has extended an invitation to the New Jedi Order to investigate the ruins as well as the surrounding gemstone mines to determine the origins of the temple and the suitability of those crystals to lightsaber manufacturing.

Five - Bring Your Own Objective
Or don’t. I’m not your mom.

OBJECTIVE FOUR - METIS DISCOVERY
SWRP_Headers.jpg

At first, Juno had thought it was a mistake or some kind of practical joke. Hop on a shuttle and fly up to Metis – we found something. Something, in a system whose only significant historical find was a three hundred year old crashed survey probe. It seemed unlikely. Juno had been tasked with preservation efforts for rather more recent historical artifacts: the First Imperial Crown Jewels, which agents of the Renascent Republic had secured from the Imperial Palace on Dosuun on their way out of the system.

They were impressive, and very expensive of course, but they weren’t really historical – not yet – and so Juno had locked the crown, the scepter, the orb, the whole shiny works into its vault and arranged transport to Metis.

The structure – referred to as a temple colloquially, though of course there was no way of knowing if that’s what it really was – was really a complex, built into or carved out of a large subterranean cave. The large columns that held up the roof of the cavern might have been natural at first glance, but their symmetry and the markings that marked their exteriors put that thought to one side. Certainly the rectangles that had formed the buildings of the complex weren’t natural, with their little windows and empty doorways.

Hinges and fittings had been found in the doorways and windows, indicating that at one point doors and shutters, at least, had been present. The wood had long ago decayed, leaving only the rudimentary metal fixtures behind.

Most ingenious had been the apparent harnessing of the lava seam that ran through these parts. Firepits and fireplaces, even crude ovens had been carved and were still throwing heat and light. There were even channels in the walls where lava trickled down, serving as an apparent heat and light source. There was even a rudimentary dual-water pump, one producing hot water, the other cold.

Given the carbon dating placed the few carbon-datable items as having been created in the early days of the Old Republic, this was quite a feat.

But then, another shocking discovery: the iconography found in the complex was similar to – but distinct from – surviving examples of the iconography of the ancient Jedi Order. She reported back to the Cabinet in one of the more exciting memos in her career. She had spent the rest of the week surveying the place, photographing the place and the artifacts left behind, the iconography, the facilities. She installed temporary lighting and communications and safety equipment, carefully avoiding any damage to the place.

That had been a week ago; now, Dr. Volante stood in a makeshift briefing tent on the surface of Metis. She was irate; she spent most of her life being irate, but today was a special case. In her hand – more accurately, crushed in her fist – was a memorandum from the Prime Minister directly, directing her on, as the memorandum euphemistically put it, the disposition of the archaeological find.

Her temple. Her temple. The most significant find that had been discovered in the Adytum System in the decade plus of its settlement and Juno was supposed to throw it open to Jedi to go crawling around in it, and to give it to them if they wanted it.

She held the letter in the flame of the small lantern that sat on the table next to her and tossed it into the wire basket at her feet. It would change nothing, of course, but it made Juno feel better for the moment.

The invitation had been extended to the New Jedi Order to join the expedition and explore the temple that seemed to belong, if not to the NJO’s ancestors, then perhaps to one of those ancestors’ cousins. Juno was there to play guide and host, and in that spirit she went to the flaps of the tent and began to tie them open, prepared to welcome representatives from the New Jedi Order to the Renascent Republic.

Vulpesen took a deep breath as he looked around the massive grove that stood outside of Zorros city. All around him, the entire host of the Wlder Council had convened, looking far more like a convention of forest folk. Veradune was home to dozens of sects and each had sent their representative arch wilders to greet the jedi. And of course, with each arch wilder came a small party of lesser ranked members who had eagerly volunteered to come meet the jedi.

Vulpesen, while certainly the leader of his own sect, was now on neutral ground. There was no leader among the council except in times of war. And yet, he could feel every golden eye looking to him. Beyond his own importance to the planet's history, this meeting had been his idea and until now, he had served as the singular link between the two orders. His tail twitched in anticipation and he cooled himself with a low intake and exhale of breath. Veradune had been independent for hundreds of years. And now, that was all changing. What's more, he wasn't at the Vitae HQ where the talks would be held with the GA's leaders. That honor, had of course gone to the excelsus of the Howlaw court and the rest of his family. He simply prayed to there would be no diplomatic incidents.

Stepping below the massive tree that stood at the center of the grove, Vulpesen infused his voice with the force, letting it ring out through the forest for all present to hear. "Centuries ago, the Wilders and the Jedi worked together! Our initiates and wildlings went to your order to learn and grow! And in return, your jedi came to us to experience the life of another philosophy! I have walked both worlds and while I no longer consider myself a jedi, I am happy to say that the New Jedi Order of the Galactic alliance ahs restored my faith in the justness of their creed! Today marks a new era on Veradune, one where Wilders no longer hide in the woods, plains, and mountains away from the rest of the galaxy. Today we explore and learn! I invite all you jedi to do the same!"

Lucas' face held the same serene smile that he always wore when to came to diplomatic functions, but within his chest, his heart was threatening to burst from his chest. Vulpesen had finally done it. He'd found a reliable ally with which the planet could join forces in their efforts to make a mark on the Galaxy. Such a course of action was yet another reason, he was certain their histories would feature his name quite a bit, but today, he was happy to see that House Gracin was finally given its chance to add its own deeds to those books.

His eyes swept over the grand hall where the Vitae Alliance had decided to host its newfound allies. The room was spacious enough for a couple hundred, having been cleared of all the accoutrements of a headquarter's entrance. The center desk had been replaced by a massive floor over which, music played in celebratory tunes. Then on either side, were long stables that spanned each of the walls, every side lined with chairs and the center similarly filled with platters and pitchers for food and drink. In all respects, this diplomatic meeting was set up more like a party than any dull office meeting between politicians.

"My dear Galactic Alliance," He began as he stepped up to the podium that had been placed at the far end of the grand foyer of the Vitae alliance's HQ. "Veradune, for six centuries, has been my home. Granted, much of that was spent hiding or in a jail cell. But for the past sixty years, we have hoarded our planet, its riches, and its history, sparing only what patrols we could to take out the occasional slaver or tyrant in the galaxy's shadows. For the past sixty years, Veradune belonged to the Verans and no one else." His mouth opened in his most winning smile, pearly white teeth and fangs displayed in unabashed joy. "Today, we share our planet, our culture, and our future with you. We are a martial people, this much is true. You'll fine no more ardent fighters than those from our beloved cities and I'm sure that will help in future endeavors. But let us leave war for another day. Today, please, drink, eat, and dance! Its a new day for Veradune and we look forward to seeing where this new era will bring us."

Juno Volante and anyone

The ship roared over the rocky crenelations of Metis' surface, trembling as it descended through the moon's atmosphere. Rayia paced back and forth in the cargo bay, eager to be off the windship as soon as the doors had opened. For once, Rayia's necessitated real-space stop in order to calm her fraying nerves hadn't affected her time of arrival. Her inner beast had appreciated the rest as well, drifting into an idle torpor. Though Rayia knew better than to trust it. It could awaken at any moment if Rayia was too stressed. 'Though if I'm being honest, I arrived on time probably because I was already on my way over here,' Rayia admitted to herself. Rayia had intended to seclude herself on Veradune for a short period of time. Heavily forested, it presented the perfect opportunity to practice some control. Besides which, Rayia had heard that there may be people on Veradune who might understand her specific problem's nature. 'And just as a huntress brings in prey and an apothecary makes medicines, one should always consult the familiar,' Rayia thought, remembering her time as a Trade's Guild Apprentice in the mercantile city of Vossport on Weik.

Absentmindedly, she stroked at her tail feeling it prickle as it sensed the displacement of air someone caused as they moved approaching her. Her sharp ears caught the heavy sound of footsteps and she turned already knowing who it was. A familiar emotional prickle coursed up her spine. A stocky Zabrak woman with sharpened, conical nubs crossed her arms in front of her chest. Her jumpsuit and ever-present tool belt marked her as the chief engineer and quartermaster for the transport ship Rayia was using to ferry herself here. "Would you stop pacing? We'll be there soon. You're making me dizzy," she said, motioning with a hand for Rayia to sit down. "Sorry." Rayia hastily apologized and moved to take a seat. Her ears flattened in embarrassment and her tail retracted into its sheath as she tried to ignore her burning cheeks.

Rayia didn't have long to wait. The pilot evidently spotted the encampment as the tents were being drawn open to welcome outsiders and landed near enough so as to not disturb them with the downdraft of the repulsors. As soon as the door had opened, Rayia blurred as she bounded with preternatural feline agility into the center of camp within heartbeats. Only, she came to a stop as she began to fully comprehend what she could see. She could sense the ancient scents lingering about the stone city, permeating from the very stones themselves. In fact, in a way, the city carved out from the rock reminded her of Vossport and its rigid stability and design. Only this was afforded an ancient regality by virtue of its age. And the supposed early paladin (ancient Weikian word for Jedi) carvings. Rayia couldn't help it. The Felacatian's shoulders straightened as she felt the weight of the spirit's eyes bearing down on her. 'Would they...be proud?' She thought maneuvering her way towards the "main" tent where visitors were clearly expected.

OBJECTIVE FOUR - METIS DISCOVERY

WIth the tent flaps raised, the archaeologist stood back, letting the canvas shield her gaze. Aegis loomed close in sky; it gave her a rather strange feeling of vertigo. The world was lovely and verdant, glowing a gentle pale, purple-green across the midsection, where the grasslands spread free, broken up occasionally by brilliant sapphire seas and rivers. She pushed her sleeves up, fastened them like the flaps of the tent, and reached back to pull her thick, dark hair back into a tail, which she tied back.

A small contingent were approaching the tent, and she lifted her hand in greeting. "Come on in," Juno called, trying to sound as friendly as she could. "Are you it, or -- ?" Her eyes were questioning. Dr. Volante hadn't been told who to expect, exactly; she was sure this discovery didn't rate enough for the Jedi Council to attend, and she wouldn't have recognized them if they did. " -- all taking separate transports, perhaps."

A brief smile as she approached to introduce herself. "Well, welcome to Metis. I'm Dr. Juno Volante, I'm the Director of the Renascent Historical Preservation Division, which is part of the Ministry of Culture." She gestured toward the tables lining the tent wall. "There's refreshments, if you'd like -- water, coffee, some food. Help yourself if you're hungry."

Objective: Find a kyber crystal

After his meeting with his new master Rhiza Dural Rhiza Dural , Nir had been tasked with finding a crystal for his new saber. With the integration of Veradune and the surrounding systems into the GA, it was a perfect chance for the aspiring padawan to find a crystal.

When he landed, he was surprised to see a full archeological camp had been set up around the mines. He wasn't really interested in it, but it was a surprise to be sure. Maybe he probably should have actually finished reading the massive pamphlet they had given him on the way there...

No matter. He approached one of the tents, looking for whomever could point him in the direction of the mines.

The last few days had been spent on Veradune for Jonyna, having hopped between this planet and coruscant mostly to check on her padawans. But outside of that duty, she had been taking the time to unwind. So long had she been spending time prepping for the coming war with the Sith, the Mandos, the Empire, she'd become all wound up internally. Now, she needed to relax.

With Veradune's integration, Jonyna was happy to participate in the exchange of knowledge.

"So...are we just gonna show off then, or is there a set schedule to all this?"

Or maybe she was completely misunderstanding the assignment. Please don't let it be that. You're smarter than that Jonyna...

Natasi Fortan Natasi Fortan | Aegis

Alliance One rocked out of hyperspace. Moments later the viewport became transparent once more, and Auteme looked out at the blue-sea'd planet that they were there for.

Perav informed her of the movement of the planet's defense force -- a sizeable navy, given the world's population -- but that was to be expected, given the style in which the Chancellor travelled. Though she might've preferred something smaller, the security concerns in the wake of both the Sith and Mandalorian threats had made her advisors anxious at the thought of travel to a border system without the proper protection.

Had she visited sooner, it might've been a much quieter affair. But with the Director's retirement, her reasons for being quiet within her own space had disappeared, and she was free to take her time. She wanted to take her time.

Soon enough they were cleared. A wing of starfighters flew out to sweep their path; three shuttles were launched from the bay, each to land in a different part of the capital. Only one was where Natasi Fortan waited to greet her.

Auteme stepped out of the shuttle and approached her host. She was humble today; no grand entrance, and her location didn't even afford her the simple theatrics of the rising of the Chancellor's podium. Today was for listening and looking.

"Senator Fortan -- good morning," she greeted. "I must say, I'm quite excited to see your world, and I thank you for welcoming me here."

Crystals? Moon? A lost temple? Shan was hooked straight away! He had made his own way towards the moon, using a starfighter that he had decided to use for his own personal use, now that he had some flying experience. It gave him some time to think alone anyway which was what the Mirialan needed. His return to Nar Shaddaa had weighed heavily on his mind, and he had yet to tell anyone about the experience. Dozens upon dozens of thoughts were swirling in the Mirialan's head but he was ignoring each one. Focusing on his piloting, to try and live in the present. The moment he was in right now, as opposed to worrying about the past, or fretting over the future. Ironic perhaps, that he was coming here to learn about the past then. To learn more about the moon and potentially Jedi Order itself. Studying was always something that intrigued the Padawan and he had recently fallen behind on them, whilst focusing on his physical training.

Eventually the Padawan found what he believed would be a suitable landing space near the main camp, landing the starfighter nearby before hopping out of it. Shan patted the Interceptor with a grin, sighing to himself. It was a nice ship if he was being honest. Either way, Shan made his way off towards the camp, taking his time to walk as the Padawan went to work, brushing down his jacket to look presentable. It was one of the few times he wasn't actually wearing his Jedi robes. As he arrived at the camp, Shan took a minute to take in the surroundings, looking over towards the cave that was supposedly the temple and tilted his head at the sight of it. It made sense in his mind, to use the natural landscape and topography for a temple, as opposed to building one. It would allow those living there to feel more in tune with their surroundings, or at least that was how he was deciding to see it at this moment.

Either way, Shan carried on moving forward, giving a short nod in the direction of Nir in greeting, though he kept moving forward towards the main tent where there seemed to be a small gathering. He lowered his head once he arrived at the tent, bowing his head towards Juno. "I apologise for my late arrival. I was making my own way here." The Padawan was like usual, doing his best to try and be respectful. This wasn't his moon, his history, or his culture. It was best for him to just be on his best behaviour which wasn't hard for him.

Since being invited to this place to train I had made myself feel very at home, the grove was beautiful, and the other wilders, my new family were fascinating. I hoped to learn a lot here, but so much of it also felt like play.

I was still new, but I was older than some of the other wildlings of my experience, but, due to my shapeshifting abilities, a few of the youngsters seemed to have taken a shine to me and looked up to me a little. I was sat on a long branch with three of them a couple of metres off of the ground, three zorren children, two girls and a little boy. "So, my shapechanging is different to the way of the shaper, or your quadrepedal thing you get later, but the way I learned is not to think of myself as a chaldean pretending to be a wolf, but to just be a wolf. It makes my skinshift more convincing."

"And if you believe it the other people will to?"

"Exactly, my glamours help fill in the gaps if I can't get the shape right, and self belief helps that." I replied with a smile, the girl was paying attention to my every word, it was kind of adorable.

Our conversation was interrupted by something of a commotion as the Jedi delegates arrived and master Torrevaso's voice filled the glade. Some of the Jedi I recognised from my visits to the temple on coruscant where I had first met the Master Wilder, others were new to me. "I'm going to go and chat to the Jedi." I told my younger friends and I jumped down from the branch and dusted myself off, before walking across the clearing towards where my master was greeting his guests.

It wasn't age but pride that made Natasi's joints resist as she bowed to the Supreme Chancellor. She was not accustomed to deferring so much as to deference, but protocol demanded it, and Natasi had to admit to a significant admiration for Auteme Auteme . The more she learned about the Chancellor, the more she found to like.

In some ways, like her predecessor Adhira Chandra Adhira Chandra , Auteme was one of the few members of one of the more exclusive clubs in the galaxy, a sorority of which Natasi was also an alumna. Women in positions of authority in galactic politics were more common these days than in days past, but they were still comparatively rare. And whatever the state of gender politics in the galaxy, there was no question to Natasi that the experiences they shared were distinct from their male counterparts.

That's right: Natasi Fortan, feminist icon.

She rose, straightening as Auteme approached with her greeting. "Your Excellency," Natasi said graciously as she rose. "Welcome to New Sterandel. It is a great honor to have you here, truly."

Natasi had invited the Chancellor's shuttle to land at a parade ground in the outskirts of New Sterandel, while the other two -- decoys, to Natasi's understanding -- landed at other locations. The parade ground was empty, save for a squadron of soldiers drilling at the opposite end. Far enough away to not be a threat to the safety of the Chancellor if that was a concern. Close enough that the Chancellor could see that there wasn't a piece of white stormtrooper armor in sight.

Even her own personal guard detail was at a distance, near the speeder that had brought her here. A signal of trust.

"I have some idea of what I'd like to show you," Natasi began, favoring the Chancellor with a pleasant smile. "I am conscious of the fact that you are a busy woman, with many demands on your time, so in the interest of respecting that, I'd like to ask you if there is anything in particular you'd like to see?" For a moment, Natasi felt like a child, waiting for Matron to inspect her dormitory with a white glove. "I'm also aware -- painfully aware -- that, due to this nation's origins as a First Order colony, there may be a trust gap. In an effort to try to bridge that gap, I have informed my security forces and the Prime Minister, and no one else, of your presence, so that what you see will, I hope, be an authentic and un-adorned look at the Renascent Republic and its people."

Kahlil_Div2.png

Kahlil's skills in the Force were, ultimately, borrowed concepts. As a boy, when he still lived as a Sith, his magics were based off the Nightsisters. He made for a poor witch, naturally, but none the less he did what he could to replicate them through Sith runes. As a Jedi, he took those runes and brought them to the Light. They weren't his only skills, but right now, they were important. Not for him, though.

He glanced to Katherine, offering her a brief and encouraging smile. She couldn't train, not physically anyway. But the Force? She showed an affinity for his runes when she couldn't channel the light herself, she had found a way to echo it in them. And so, did that mean she could do the same with other powers? Abilities? He was curious, and, well, he enjoyed being able to learn different beliefs of the Force regardless.

"Don't hesitate to ask any questions, but don't feel obligated to answer any that make you feel uncomfortable." She was Sithspawn still, in a way. His gaze shifted to Jonyna nearby though, and he laughed.

"Jedi don't show off. Though, don't hold back in showing them what you can do if you're asked. I hear some of them can turn into animals after all."

Valery looked out through the viewscreen of her cockpit and towards Reima in her ship. The woman likely couldn't tell from out there, but Valery had a grin from ear to ear on her face — she loved the thrill of racing or going into dangerous tracks like this. Unbecoming of the usual Jedi Master, perhaps, but she had never been overly traditional. She doubted that a pilot from Revenant Squadron would care too much, though.

She was probably looking forward to the challenge herself.

<Are we making this a race between us? Or do you want to team up and go against the locals? Maybe we can set some new records for them.> She was being a little arrogant for her first time here, but she was confident in her piloting skills. Being able to brag a little to Kahlil Noble Kahlil Noble after coming home would just be an added benefit.

He was the better pilot in the Bastion and other bigger ships, but she felt at home in her fighter.

Revenant Squadron had yet to take part in any serious conflicts, but it was only a matter of time. Until then, it provided them opportunities to flex their wings and get themselves comfortable flying with one another. Sure, they had extensive training exercises, but it was always a different feeling to be outside the boundaries of such things.

Today was one such day, and the Revenant Squadron were being joined by a special guest.

<Why not both? Nothing wrong with a friendly bit of competition.>

Elijah’s voice called out over the comms, as his X-wing came to settle on the other side of Reima’s.

The prospect of racing through a potentially deadly asteroid field had grabbed the pilot’s interest immediately. Even when he had briefly retired, he had occupied a lot of his time just racing his personal ship around. Whether it was solo or against any locals that wanted to test themselves and their ships.

And the fact a Jedi was joining them today? That was the cherry on top in Elijah’s mind.

<We can have a little race between ourselves, while also breaking some local records. Personally speaking? It’s been a while since I flew against a Jedi.>

It was difficult to see, but you could almost ‘hear’ the smirk as Elijah spoke.

When Kahlil had approached her with plans of visiting Veradune, Katherine had been a little hesitant. She was still on strict instructions from the Healers to avoid any major physical exertions. Flying was fine, but physical training was out of the question.

The Padawan’s experience with being infected with the Creeping Lignan had left its toll on her body. It provided a number of ‘benefits’ that Katherine had used out of panic and desperation. But her body had only been trained only so far, nowhere close to the lengths the infection had pushed her. Despite the Force Healing and a dip in a bacta tank, her body was still effectively ‘sore’ from the experience. It needed more time to fully heal.

However, her Master had clarified they’d be going there to visit the Wilders of Veradune. To see if it was possible for the two groups to exchange knowledge. Now that in particular grabbed Katherine’s interest. She had heard of a Wilder visiting the temple on Coruscant before. Apparently it had been to teach those interested in how to use the elements. Unfortunately for Katherine, she had missed it.

So the winged Padawan jumped at the chance to visit the planet they called home.

I know, Master.” She said, giving Kahlil a grateful smile. Katherine was eager to learn more about the Wilders, and what they were capable of. Her attention immediately snapped towards Kahlil as he spoke with Jonyna. “Wait, they can turn into animals?

"Alright Jay, first mission, let's see what we can do." The little astromech Bleeped in her ear. "I know its not a real mission, it doesn't mean we shouldn't fly our asses of, Five is out there, as are a couple of Jedi."

She flashed on her engines to catch up to a position just off the wing of Elijah Beckett Elijah Beckett and the Jedi, preparing herself for the course. She had heard that the course was hard, the unpredicatable nature of the asteroids made it wonderfully complex.

<<I'm just glad they arent shooting back this time>> She joked back on a comm meant only for her squadronmate. The rest of revenant knew by now she was an asylum seeker and in the recent history had been forced to take arms up against the alliance, but she owned who she was. Except not to the point she would consider making such a joke to the Jedi, her opinion of them was still reforming after being so completely hard wired to see them as the enemy.

<<This is Revenant four confirming all systems clear, safe flying all of you.>> she communicated more broadly as she felt her systems integrating with that of the fighter, allowing her to perceive space as if the x-wing was part of her body.

<<It's not going to be a fair fight unless we do it in those... I don't even know what to describe them as.>>

Reima peered warily at the Renascent Defense Legion starfighters that were flying formation going the opposite direction. They were broadly flat, but bent toward the middle where the cockpit sat. They looked... well, aerodynamic, at least. She touched her comlink control, switching to her private channel. "Bartoo?"

The dark teal-and-white astromech, BB-10R2, chittered cheerfully behind her. ::YES, FLIGHT OFFICER REIMA?::

"Get a sensor sweep of those fighters when get in in range. I'm curious about their specs," Reima told her droid. The droid chittered back a response, and Reima smirked. "Attaboy."

Switching back over to the broadcast channel. <<Revenant Twelve, board is green.>> She glanced over to where Valery Noble Valery Noble 's X-Wing hung suspended in the stars. <<As for a race -- you know I'm game. Care to make it interesting?>>

The Golden Run wasn't a fixed course, but rather a ring through the asteroid field going against the grain of its orbit. The rules were fairly straightforward: the fastest to make a complete circuit won bragging rights. If you left the field -- either because your shields bounced you off an asteroid too hard, or you bailed to avoid death -- you lost. And depending on how early you bailed, the punishment in terms of vicious mockery could be... severe.

<<Or are you chicken?>>

Rayia was lost in the midst of her reverie when she felt a familiar prickle of motion detected by her tail. She could feel as the occupant inside the tent, a brunette woman dressed in surveyor's garb, waved towards her. With difficulty, Rayia tore her eyes away from her surroundings in order to focus on the woman who was speaking. 'Can anyone blame you? The city is impressive, but so is the moon's sister hanging so clear in the sky,' she thought to herself, marveling now not only at the ancient, monoliths of early architecture but also at the abundance of water Veradune possessed. To someone who had grown up under the scarcity of water afforded them by the savannahs of her homeland, the heavily forested planet was a true treasure.

Rayia's ears perked up as the woman introduced herself as a doctor. On Weik, doctors were one of the highest hierarchical positions that someone who was studying the healing arts could attain. Students flocked from all continents on Weik to attain an apprenticeship with a famous medic. Only the truly gifted or lucky actually stood to prosper from it. The rest were sequestered away in research or if they possessed mechanical aptitudes assigned to maintaining the sparse medical equipment possessed across the planet. More still returned home with newfound skills and became apothecaries amongst their tribes or villages. 'I suppose I understand. There are only so many machines they could demonstrate their craft upon. But still, it makes me wonder, why is such an important person talking to us?' Rayia thought.

Growing even more conscientious of herself than before, Rayia's ears slumped. She was sure she looked ridiculous, a tribal, Felacatian girl out of place. 'Surely I must appear feral to the rest,' she thought. Grateful as other people showed up to occupy Juno's attention, Rayia slunk off towards the tables perched by the tent's far wall. She piled her plate high with a various assortment of meats and gratefully accepted a cup of caf as she headed back towards the small gathering. 'I should be careful, or I'll get addicted,' she mused, enjoying the slow, spreading warmth as she felt the milky brown liquid course down her throat. Rayia studied the others around her, noting the Mirialan's apology for arriving late. As she started to relax, her tail crept out of its sheath and wrapped around her waist again. "You don't have to worry. We're just getting started. I think," she whispered in a soothing tone. Her instincts told her he was a kind one. She could read it in his movements too. The Cathar... seemed strangely familiar though she couldn't place it. Like a friend wearing a stranger's mask. Rayia was sure she'd never met him before. Nevertheless, she gave him a short wave as well. They were about to venture into the maw of the earth together after all.

Twelve wasn’t the only one checking those RDL fighters - aerodynamic, and there was no air in space. Captain Perris wondered how they handled that design in the perils of this environment, and cracked half a smirk, listening in on the chatter between other Revenants and the one Jedi that had spoken up so far. Cocky, that one - she fit right in - but when Reima alluded to a wager, that smirk evolved into a grin.

<< Revenant Nine, all green. >> Perris confirmed, chiming in on the joint broadcast channel. << I don’t know who has the bigger balls, Twelve,>> he said with a hint of humoured approval. << You, or the Jedi who woke up this mornin’ and thought they’d come out here to play. >>

It was one thing to talk a good game, and another to back it up. He figured he could fly this course in several other craft, on top of this one.

<< How about it, Jedi? >> Indy quipped, that grin tamping down only slightly as he spoke. << ‘Course, no hard feelings if you’d rather bawk-bawk-bawk all the way home. >>
