Skirmish No Rest For The Wicked | Pirates vs. Bryn’adul

Master of the Hyperspace Seas

image0.jpg

Another bolt flew past the Captain, colliding with the hull of his ship.

Now, The Blue Pearl had seen it’s fair share of battles, but running into the Bryn’adul was the last thing it needed right now. What they needed was to finishing loading this loot and get out of here.

“Hurry it up men! Get that cargo onboard now!”

The crew hurried to load up the cargo crates. All of it was being thrown into the bottom storage compartment, going from there to be sold on the Black Market. Now that the Sith Empire was gone, all of there technology was free game for pirates like him. And apparently the Bryn’adul as well.

Unclipping the lightsaber that hung from his belt, the Captain turned it on and began to deflect the bolts. They were a relentless force that would now stop at nothing to have them killed. He couldn’t let that happen.

Looking over he saw the other pirates loading up their cargo crates, trying to get out of here as well. Who knew how much time they had before the would become victims of the Bryn’adul. Hopefully that time wouldn’t come.

If y’all are a Pirate or a Bryn’adul writer, feel free to hop in and join the attack!

Cass watched as her team continued to load the Parting Gift, another good score. She would owe Pyrrah a drink for this lead no doubt, if they made it off this rock alive. The Midnight Kyber, cloaked in orbit, had detected hyperdrive arrivals of a small Bryn'adul scouting party and they had made landfall not far from their position. She hated the Bryn, the represented destruction and death, the did not even seem to respect the honour among thieves that separated her own kind from pure anarchy.

It hadn't taken the advance scouting parties long to reach their location. The pirates had been lucky if she were honest, her hold was mostly full already, of high end energy processors and other technology that was fit to be sold on the black market.

Her contemplation was interrupted by blaster fire as she saw Pyrrah and his men engaged from something lurking just out of her sight. The unusual looking ship he had arrived in was between the enemy and the Parting Gift for now but she could see movement as they moved to a flanking position.

"Get on the dorsal laser turret and cover the loaders" she shouted to her marines. Cass activated one of light sabers, its black blade cast strange shadows, she also pulled out her electro-pistol. The Bryn died like anything else, she would make sure of it.

They scored big this time the abandoned stronghold yielded goodies beyond what Isidor and his men got during their solo raids. He held some artefacts at arm's length as they gave him a heavy weighted feeling in his stomach. Even the way they glowed sat uneasily with him.

Either that or he's reacting to yesterday's food. The dish did taste odd. Either way, it did not sit well with him. He got his hands dirty by helping load the ship with crates of looted artefacts and a few texts he swiped after breaking in.

The loading continued without any major hiccup, well, the Navigator, a Duros did attract every biting insect on the planet, but that cannot exactly be helped at this point. Still, can't help but pity the man being the one who gets bitten without fail.

Their operations ground to a sudden halt, the telltale noise of gunfire ringing out and looking over to Pyrrah Tae, Isidor, noticed that they were not alone anymore. He could not see who it was at this angle. But the danger is there, and it could scupper their raiding if they too fell under fire. So he silently signalled his Corsairs to quietly draw their weapons and form a perimeter around the ship.

This was way too easy and Isidor knew it, so he also drew his weapons in wary preparation for a gunfight or an attack.

Vultures always found their way to carrion.

It was the nature of things that scavengers always inevitably found their way into the homes and dwellings of the fallen mighty and plucked them clean of their riches and their trappings as though they themselves had been responsible for their demise. As the hybrid gazed out at the world around him, at the pillaging that had already begun in its earnest, of the shattered stronghold of the Sith Empire, and the subsequent bodies of those who had been slain by his own kindred or the raiders, he knew that he had come across a morbid gathering of these vultures.

Where had the piratical fiends been when the Sith Empire had been choking upon its own bile, the actions of its leaders causing myriads to turn against them and execute a vicious internal conflict that tore them asunder? Had they offered their services as mercenaries to the highest bidders or had they sat quietly and waited until the Sith had lost control of their territories, and had become incapable of holding their territories. He might've condescended to a greater deal against the raiders were it not for the fact that the Bryn'adul themselves had launched few assaults against the fortified territories of the Sith.

It also didn't matter whether they had fought or not - they were weak in the eyes of the Bryn'adul, and of the Ish'makra, and of Osam himself.

The Heldrak Dropship lowered itself to the ground, crushing whatever rubble was beneath it as it opened its bays and released the nearly nine-hundred warriors onto the surface of the world - the Warlord included among their ranks. Each one immediately split off and went to their work - clearing the area of whatever foes could be found, utilizing the vicious slugthrowers renowned among the Bryn'adul. After all - blasters were weak and piteous weapons compared to the exceptional force that could be launched out of an assault carbine.

"Slaughter the vermin. Do not allow them to finish loading." He commanded, stepping atop a small hillock of rubble and stone as he gazed out at whatever foes could be seen. He observed as swarms of Juggernauts and Drones moved ahead... thirsting for conflict.

Howdy Ya'll. Looking forward to fighting with the pirates. Let me know if you have any questions or need any help with anything. Let's have a good time!

The reality of the situation began to set in as the Bryn'adul army seemed to grow every second.

As the Captain contiued to provide as much defense as he could, the sound of crates crashing took him off guard. Turning around he saw three crates that had been tipped over. One full of blasters, common ones used by most Sith foot soldiers. The next was lined with a variety of metals, more than likely used for weapon construction. For the final crate, multiple items wrapped in cloth were laid out across the ground. The Captain hadn't gotten the chance to see what these were yet, but they were very strong in the force.

"Pick up those items and load them back up! And be careful with those wrapped artifacts!"

With a nod of their heads, three men set off to get those crates on board. That was until was blown to pieces by incoming fire. Cursing out loud, Pyrrah knew their time was running out. It was either they stay here and fight for a little longer, or fire up the engines and get the Kark out of dodge.

He watched as Cass's and Isidor's crew began to return fire to the Bryn'adul. Some of the soldiers began to go down, but not very quickly. With a push from the force the Captain hoped to knock down some of the soldiers, buying them more time. But the clock was running out, and there was still a handful of crates left.

An eerie silence descended upon them, a silence that wasn’t good news, a whistle and then a shell exploded nearby knocking crews off their feet, shrapnel flying at their bodies. Isidor knew that they couldn’t hold them off forever and they would all die once they either ran out of ammo or ran out of the crew. He ducked as a rock flew at his head from another strike at where they are. Crates had splintered from the gunfire, their contents were strewn on the ground. They gave off an ominous aura. They looked like Holocrons. He felt uneasy looking at them.

<“Get those crates in the hold, the rest of you get into a defensive position and keep firing.”> He roars over the noise, he loves a good fight, but this is not a battle worth dying in, him or his crew. Isidor shot back as well. A leader fights with their crew after all. It brought him enough time to swoop in and place the Holocrons in another empty crate, a few shots almost hit him, it was close enough to make his hair stand on end.

They are going to flee, run from the Bryn, no one in their right mind would willingly offer themselves as a sacrifice. No one in his crew were trained soldiers, they can fight and fight well but not in the same capacity as a military.

A shockwave sent Isidor flying head over heels only skidding to a stop near where he once stood face down, Dead bodies now littered the ground. It’s always a tragedy when crew are lost. But his head spun and hurt too much to make any sense of the pandemonium around him. He needs to get up and get his crew back into his ship to make a break for it.

<“Get up, get up, and fight to flee.”> He groaned more to himself as he slowly got onto his feet, the world tilted as he did so. His sidearm back in his hand and firing at the approaching Bryn. He ached all over, but his priority is self-preservation and the preservation of his Corsairs.

So, they inched closer to their ship, keeping all blaster fire concentrated on the advancing Bryn most of them re-entered the safety of Blood Lightning. The engines started almost immediately; the take-off was pretty much impeded by the assault on the hull.

The pain from the fall made Isidor dizzy and even sicker to his stomach but the focus here is just getting out of dodge and quickly. They can use their Turbolasers to give cover to those who still need to get to their ships safely.

<“Fire on the Bryn, give those still outside cover!”> He barks, taking charge once more.

Cass watched as the enemy broke cover, firing her pistol at high power mode trying to put them down. There was a scream as one of her pirates who had found themselves a bit further out was overrun and ripped apart.

"We need to leave, everyone back on board, get the Gift off the ground" the haul had been good, but not so good for more casualties, she began a fighting retreat herself, cutting one of her assailants down with her lightsaber and force throwing its body at another to slow its approach. Her ship had lifted off and was a few feet from the ground as the last Crew climbed onboard. Her second, Thrace, was kneeled on the ramp taking shots at the horde, her pair of automatic pistols barked as she took down the monsters.

Cass looked around herself, she was the last on the ground now, and one last crate, she had time though. She telekinetically lifted the crate too her and held it as she moved toward the ramp. A drone pounced as her from nearby and she was forced to throw the crate the last bit into the ship.

Dodging the monster's blow she felt it glance off of her back pack and she reignited her saber, running the creature through. This was too much, she ran for the ramp herself and took a leap to get on.

Suddenly, ahead oh her was a bright flash as a projectile struck the ramp, damaging it and knocking her to the ground. The on rushing horde have her no choice as she couldn't risk the while ship. "Thrace, take the ship back to the Kyber and I will make my own escape. Have Pix pick me up in a Sciss once I can escape the hot zone"

"OK, Cass, keep safe, and duck"

Duck? She thought, being answered by her ship as it unloaded with its three dual cannons and its launcher, blasting into the front line of the enemy and covering Cass escape. Cass could use the force to make herself harder to track and hit her grav pack to blast herself forward faster than she could run, into the trees and out of sight for now.

Osam continued to observe the fight taking place from his perch, observing as the murderous rounds of the Bryn'adul scattered marauder bodies into visceral chunks and painted the pavement in the color of war. It brought him little pleasure to observe such weaklings being exterminated - better to have encountered a band of Jedi attempting to siphon whatever they could from the fallen beast that was the Sith Empire. Nevertheless, the pirates were not completely without capability... several Sraelvun had died in the last few moments from the firepower of the foe, their Verikast armor eventually heating to the point where it was useless, or else being bypassed directly by rogue headshots.

The hybrid observed too as one of the piratical interlopers launched a wave of invisible energy at encroaching Draelvasier, knocking them backward through the unnatural talent of the Force. ( Pyrrah Tae Pyrrah Tae ) One of the pirate vessels too took the opportunity afforded by the fighting to begin to lift off of the ground, its cannons doing significant damage to the Draelvasier and their Allies - far more than their hand-held weapons had managed thus far throughout the engagement. ( Isidor Justeene Isidor Justeene )

Additional firepower scorched the area as another of the pirate ships opened up with its own emplacements, the lasers cutting directly through infantry, and the launcher doing an admirable job at annihilating any cover that was being utilized by the omnicidal Bryn'adul. ( Cass Gemini Cass Gemini ) Osam glared upward at the damage imposed, gradually shrugging the T120 Launcher off of his back and settling it into his hands. It would not be the first time that he had shot down an enemy aircraft, but he was certainly more comfortable hitting targets on the ground.

With a fizzle of fire, the Launcher kicked off, a pair of highly caustic chemical missiles sliding through the air on a direct course with the second of the starships, the one with its own launcher, in the hopes that it could be brought down.

Dropping the T120 to the ground, the hybrid refocused his attention now upon the Force Sensitive who had only recently knocked aside his companions. It would be good to obliterate one such as he, even if he were nothing more than a verminous outlaw. Stepping from his mound of stone and solitude, the Warlord began a steady march toward the fledgling captain, carbine coming to his hands as he prepared to blow him into chunks as soon as he came into range.

  • Watching Pyrrah knock over some Bryn with the Force
  • Watching Isidor's ship do damage to the frontlines
  • Watching Cass's ship do even more damage to the frontlines. This one is subsequently shot at with a missile launcher.
  • March toward Pyrrah with the intent of shooting him once he's close enough.

Gal'Zhoren scowled.

Ordinarily, he would have preferred a more covert approach to dealing with the recent intruders as opposed to waiting on deployment and hoping no stray missles fired to take them out of the engagement before they even got the chance to fight back.

As it was, however, he understood the reasoning behind using the dropship.

It didn't mean he had to like it.

The dropship was eerily silent as it descended to the surface below- the once seemingly pointless conversations having been replaced by an expectant rage. The idea of rattling down to the centre of enemy fire was vastly unpleasant but he supposed, given the circumstances, it had the potential to work in his favour.

He glanced around the immediate area of the dropship, all his squad brothers stood in what appeared to him as some state of voluntary rigor mortis. Gal'Zhoren likened the sight back to that of when had walked across a hellscape surrounded by the dead and dying... and even undead. If they had all failed to stop him back then, then these lowly pirates hadn't a prayer of surviving now.

The pirates had cane upon them suddenly. Reports on border space certainly didn't go unnoticed.
They would die for that mistake alone, of course, but they had earnt themselves a slow death when the logged ships in question stood firm instead of turning to flee the moment the Bryn'Adul had began to mobilise.

It occurred to Gal'Zhoren that the captain did not care for their crew.

They'd pay for that too.

Whipping out his blaster pistol, the Captain fired shots towards the oncoming hoard of foot soldiers.

The seemingly endless wave of Bryn'adul had managed to take out a few more of his men, plus deal more damage to the Pearl. Each second the sails received new holes, scorched by the blaster fire. And their time had run up. Now on top of the Captain and crew, the Bryn'adul shifted to close quarters combat. Attacking Pyrrah with brute strength, they would soon be cut down by his golden saber.

Unfortunately, that didn't seem to stop the. Each solider that fell was soon replaced by two more. Now forced to retreat, the Captain jumped upon the lowered boarding ramp, escaping the Bryn'adul. That was until they raised their blasters once more.

"I want every gun we have to fire on those freaks of nature!"

With various replies on confirmation, he watched as his men began to aim fire down upon the soldiers. It wasn't much, but it would buy them a minute or so. Just when he thought the Pirates were in the clear, he saw a familiar figure sprinting towards the forest: Cass.

Turning the giant wooden wheel towards the right, the Captain began to head towards her. Maybe rescuing the women would earn him a healthy about of credits. As a thank you, of course. Pressing a button on the Cornell panel, a rope would drop down for her to reach onto.

Here was hoping that she reached the rope before the Bryn'adul reached her.

The imposing figure that was Gordrak strode silently out of the dropship. He was the only one of his kind present for this particular engagement. The Vermin that now infested this area appeared to be picking at the remains of another less fortunate group. Ultimately, such an act didn't surprise Gordrak in the slightest. It was in the nature of these insects to thrive off of the dead and dying. Drawing his Ravager, Gordrak began to send the occasional round or two downrange. As he fired selectively, Gordrak made sure to cover Osam Osam as the Warlord approached his target.

One of the pirates attempted to fall back only to be struck by one of the rounds from Gordraks Ravager. The round lodged itself in the mans lower back, dropping him instantly. As Gordrak went to sight in a new target, he noticed the downed pirate begin moving. It was the barest of movements but it happened none the less. Gordrak opted to wait rather than simply finish his downed quarry. Soon enough, two more of the pirates attempted to drag their friend into cover. As they reached their comrade, Gordrak fired two more shards into the downed man. The act itself might have appeared to be spite but that was not the actual case here. As the two additional shards embedded themselves in their target, all three began a violent chemical reaction. Within a moment or two, the shards detonated and an explosion took out the two pirates who had hoped to save a friend.

Lowering his ravager, Gordrak ejected its spent magazine and replaced it with a full one. He then began to follow after the Warlord, his distance kept to avoid attempts at the fragging of the two of them. Though his armor could handle the attacks from the rank and file, he had to pay special attention to the ships still in play. Ultra or not, Gordrak preferred not to experience such a thing. To that end, Gordrak drew his own Burner missile launcher and shouldered it on his right shoulder. His left hand held his ravager tightly as he began to draw a bead on another one of the craft still in play.

A pair of missiles flew threw the air, one missed its target by a fraction, but the other slammed into the side of The Parting Gift as it ascended, blasting a hole in the side of the ship, the ship continued to climb, firing on the enemy, but couldn't risk staying any longer so it left in a hurry, passing the message from Cass on to her awaiting frigate.

The situation on the ground was getting more desperate now, without the support from the landed vessel. Cass continued to run, narrowly avoiding another shot that lances past her, the hug projectiles smashing through a crate beside the tree line. Ahead of her she saw the rope dangling from the Pearl she fired her grav pack and reached for it, just as more Bryn burst from the trees she was previously running toward. Hauling herself higher she fired at the Bryn as they tried to jump for her.

The dropship landed with a sudden thud. Despite the ripple of motion however, the ship's occupants remained still.

For the briefest of moments, there was an eerie silence that was only punctuated by the rhythmic breathing of the plentiful Draelviser. At this proximity, Gal'Zhoren could smell the combined aroma. It was a foul thing- even for a monster raised by death. If he were the type to 'pray' as the humans called it, he would very much prey for the pirates to die engulfed in it.

The dropship exit latch dropped away and all silence gave way to an instant barrage of blaster volleys. Bodies were cut down where they stood- some not even managing to leave the dropship before landing in a crumpled heap.

If the Bryn'Adul had brought with them at least one advantage, it was certainly their numbers. It was not too long before Gal'Zhoren found himself pressing forward alongside the throngs on infantry as they approached the enemy ships.

The defiance of the pirates was an obvious farce. Gal'Zhoren could almost taste their alarm giving way to fear as he closed in. It helped greatly with Kru'kk and Ort'nem returning fire, one such blast replacing a retreating pirates putrid face with a simply beautiful mosaic of bone gristle and flesh.

In what had seemed like only a matter of moments since exiting the dropship, the ship had become surrounded on all sides by a dead ocean.

Now it was just a matter of getting in.

The pirate watched as Cass made a leap for the rope.

Fortunately, she was able to grab ahold and start moving her way upward. Unfortunately, the Bryn'adul were still set on killing all of the pirates. Blaster fire began to pierce the hull of the ship once again, turning the Blue Pearl into target practice. Cranking the large wooden wheel to the left, the ship crashed through some branches before climbing skyward.

As they began to climb higher and higher in the sky, he soon realized they would not have an easy escape. The Bryn'adul had come prepared with their own ships as well.

"Cass! Hurry now, or you will get blasted apart!

With a quick shout to his crew, the men onboard scattered about to the operational cannons. It would take all the firepower they could get to make it through. Hopefully The Parting Gift or the Blood Lightning would return fire as well, but who knew where they were now.

His head spun as if 50 swoop bikes were racing and crashing in it and he felt the ever-escalating nausea building, Isidor suppressed it long enough to address his Corsairs and to tell them that they will be giving the Bryn as good as they give. No way are they going to just take a kick without giving a sharper kick right back at them.

<“All guns, fire on the Bryn, the crab-like beings shooting at us.”> Isidor orders, and just as quickly all the guns they had begun to pepper the ground in gunfire. Because they knew very well that if they didn’t, they will all be blown out of the sky. Which would be even worse for everyone.

Which nearly happened as a sharp rock of their ship sent Rochel, the Nautolan careening off the gangway, Isidor grabbed her by the arms, stopping her from falling to her death in the nick of time, no way is he going to let anyone else die today, Nikita held on to Isidor so that he too wouldn’t fall over the railings.

Repair crews began to patch any cracks beginning to form in the hull, as Rochel was pulled to safety, what good is a Captain if he didn’t care for his/her crew? He knew first-hand what a crew that is uncared for can become full of discord and will ultimately end with a mutiny.

Isidor learned and put what he learned into practice from when he was a member of a very discontent crew. Let's just say it was a very messy affair for all involved. He vowed to be better than his old Captain.

<“Fire a missile right in the middle of Bryn’s lines.”> He ordered, and the first missile they launched hurtled towards the advancing Bryn.

As Cass was climbing she felt a warm feeling, it was Pix, and she was closing fast, their intimate bond proved invaluable at times like this. She looked up at the ascending Pearl shouting "Thanks for the ride Pyrrah Tae Pyrrah Tae " into her comm and she let go of the rope.

She dropped toward the ground and then vanished as a gust of air blew the rope to one side. Cass landed with a bump inside the Sciss piloted by Corporal Pix Tellisha, the pilot looked through the cabin door. "Good to see you safe back their Cassie, now hold on tight, we are going to give these Bryn a little treat" The Zeltron pilot said to Cass with a smile.

The Stealth fighter did a large loop to gain altitude and join the rest of the squadron. The four fighters went into a sharp dive toward the Bryn lines decloaking and opening up with laser cannons and proton torpedoes. Cass made her way out of the passenger compartment and took the seat next to Pix, she had cut her arm landing in the high speed fighter, but that was nothing compared to what she would have faced if the Bryn had got her.

Looking out the window as Pix banked the fighter out of the dive, she saw swoop bikes pouring through the air towards the Bryn, well that looked fun.

"Captains Pyrrah and Isidor, stay safe out there, but let's show the Bryn the price of messing with the coalition"

Cass's stomach briefly churned as the fighter pushed its dampeners to the maximum, trying to avoid return fire. The Parting Gift was now safely back aboard the Kyber and Reddman would likely already be counting the loot for today.
