The Harlequin Sabers were built by Cass Gemini to replace a single older light saber that housed a stolen artificial lightsaber crystal. They are the perfect tools for her job, cutting through ship hulls and bulkhead with ease, its almost like some force picked them out for her.
The story of the crystals in the sabers is one of serendipity. Cass was on a raid of an old Jedi enclave that had been lost and frozen on an ice world. In this place was mostly old junk, robes, training equpment and the like. She was very disappointed and already counting her expenses when something caught her attention, at first she thought it a music box, but as she approached the rock fall the noise sounded more like singing, a high pitched but soft melody.
Using the force she cleared the rock slide and investigated, there was a locked door that she cut through and inside was some kind of armory, with vibroswords, blasters and several partially constructed light sabers. In a locked box in the darkest corner, was a handful of small crystals of different colours including one, which Cass didn't even notice yet. It was formed in a figure eight shape of two roughly teardrop shaped crystals fused together at their tips. The crystal was clear like glass, but one end had red, drop like inclusions and the other had similar inclusions but they were black.
She grabbed the box and the singing stopped, how strange. They were added to her loot. Almost immediately she got reports that a blizzard was coming in that promised to re-bury the enclave. Having found little, Cass and her crew returned to the ship.
Several weeks passed and Cass was in the process on selling her loot, the box of kyber crystals had fetched a high price on the black market. She hadn't realised when boxing it up though, that one had fallen out of the box, lying hidden in her study on the floor, broken in two by its impact with the hard durasteel floor.
Further weeks went past and Cass kept hearing the singing, every evening in her study, it was driving her mad but she just put it down to the stress of her job. One night, whilst working on her own, faulty and unreliable saber, she dropped the artifical crystal onto the floor. She rummaged around under her desk and her hands found the two pieces of the strange figure eight crystal. The singing immediately heightened and she knew what she had to do. Putting the first into her saber, she activated it and a beautiful, reliable black blade appeared before her. She grabbed one of the other partially completed sabers and did the same with the other half, red this time. As she moved the blades around, she felt them connect to her and to the force. So these were her new sabers.
