ADVANCED SYSTEMS
STRENGTHS
  • Hidden Predator - the Midnight Kyber has a cloaking device and sensor jammers that render it almost invisible to enemies when running. The Stygian inlays also provide a degree of passive stealth when the cloaking device is inactive but it is far from perfect.
  • High performance engines - the sunlight engines make the ship very fast and agile and the hyperdrive can get it where it needs to be, or away from where it doesn't want to be extremely quickly.
  • Hard to pin down - the HIMS technology and anti-ion emission tracer mean that once it decides to leave, there is little the opponent can do to stop it.
  • Automation - many of the ships systems are automated to reduce crew requirements and allow the captain to operate most of the ship single handedly, albeit at reduced efficiency.
  • Hardened digital security - Cass has installed cutting edge digital security technology that is constantly managed by her on board slicer.
WEAKNESSES
  • Too Much Technology on a small frame - the hull has changed little as Cass added more and more hardware. This makes it hard to access important systems, and can make quick repairs such as those in battle difficult.
  • Small crew capacity - for a ship of its size the Midnight Kyber has a minimal capacity to carry crew and marines, making it vulnerable to boarding.
  • Fight or Flight - the cloaking device drawers a lot of power so the weapons other than the torpedo and missile launcher, where power is provided by the projectile, cannot be used. The projectile weapons however will immediately give away the position of the ship.
  • Fragile heart - the new hybrid-antimatter reactor is a small and sensitive piece of equipment, leaving the ship vulnerable to power failures if damaged.
  • Questionable legality - in most civilised systems the level of firepower on this vessel along with some of the military grade systems in civilian hands raises some questions.
  • Pseudointerdiction - unwilling to compromise elsewhere to fit in a true gravity well projector. Cass relies on the HIS-11 pseudointerdictor. This is enough to deceive and trap most civilian or poorly equipped military vessels, but vessels with advanced military grade systems will quickly see through the deception.
DESCRIPTION
Originally designed and built by Mandalmotors the Sunstar was a commercial failure, not because it wasn't a great hull, but because it was over engineered for the mandalorian Market and didn't exceed any equivalent existing ships in performance.

Cass Gemini purchased the Midnight Kyber, originally named The Way from Mandalmotors at a significant discount after most of its offensive weapons and military systems were removed. She then set about upgrading it to her own specification. Using Mandal, Corellia, Kuat and several smaller shipyards to do it piece by piece so no-one was aware she was building a predator. The final assembly was by a shipyard she was contractually obligated never to disclose and she left in her dream ship.

It is a stealth hunter that excels on lighting attacks on vulnerable merchant vessels, it is capable in a fight against light official vessels, but Cass prefers to rely on its speed and stealth to avoid encounters that may cause damage or draw too much attention.

The ship can carry several thousand tons of cargo including at least a thousand tons in a high security vault and has facilities to entertain guests either in luxury or frozen carbonite. There are bunks for 320 marines if required, a small complement for a ship of nearly 400m in length, but enough for Cass's purposes.

The Parting Gift the starship she was given by her parents, fits neatly into a bay on the underside of the ship, and a squadron of fighter can dock on a single Hangar just below the bridge section, between the two front pylons.
