Public Money for Nothing ~ Pirate Raid on Mahporeem

z5cR1Ol.png

TAGS: Ronhar Tane Ronhar Tane
High above the junk haven of Mahporeem, a station sat in the silence of space. Since the fall of The Imperial Confederation, the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant had been mostly left to it's own devices. Yet another fractured piece of the broken imperial dream. But the Wild Space Rebellion knew it was only a matter of time. They needed to keep the pressure on.

A bounty had been put out. A call for anyone with guts or stupidity, anyone with a need for credits and a decent ship.

Sabotage or Destroy. It didn't matter which.

Objective One:
Orbital Debris
The Burning Light, and Zoro Igala Zoro Igala slipped into the Mahporeem system quietly. Waiting with their full stealth suites engaged, waiting for the arrival of whomever was coming. The Imperials had to be none the wiser.

The Wild Space Rebellion had put out the call for anyone and everyone, and they knew the types that would take. Bounty Hunters. Pirates. Rebels without a Cause. Rebel Intellegence had told them the station would be relatively unguarded, but anyone with a brain knew the station would have a fleet guarding it.

Now it was just a question of who would be the first to try for it.
Objective Two:
Beastie Boys
The station itself was a treasure chest, waiting to be opened. The Wild Space Rebellion had left the station itself as cart blanche for anyone willing to get aboard to ravage and raid. The more damage to the station, the better.

But the true prize was it's owner. Ronhar Tane Ronhar Tane himself, a man wanted in several systems. Should one find him and bring him in alive to the rebellion, would be worth quite the payout. The only question is where he is.

Wild Space Rebellion Fleet, The Burning Light
Tag: OPEN, STEALTHED IN SYSTEM ATM
Fleet Comp:
Objective One
The Fleet arrived without so much as a whisper. Comm lasers kept inter-ship communications point to point, and silent. Zoro intended for this to be a show of the Burning Light's prowess in ambush warfare. He knew not what the imperials would be bringing, but he knew better than to trust intel that was more than a day old.

"Sir, all ships are accounted for. We're unnoticed for now. What shall be our first move?"

"Send Raven out, keep the element of surprise. We'll have the Reaper on standby. I wanna get a read on the Imperial Response once the pirates start arriving..."

The Liberation send out a single squadron, the stealth X-wing squadron that pushed towards the planet itself, scanning for imperial ships.

Zoro let out a breath. They'd attack once they knew what they were dealing with.

RUST HAVEN STATION
MAHPOREEM IMPERIAL REMNANT SPACE
OBJECTIVE I: ORBITAL DEBRIS

All in all, it was just another average day for Rust Haven Station.

Like all the remaining Verd-class Salvage and Trash Processing Stations, Rust Haven was in the midst of receiving its next batch of salvage material, to be sorted through and either constructed into something useful or broken down into recyclable components. At the moment, security was rather lax, with just a single Nebulon Fire-class Light Carrier guarding the station and all the material held within it. An Arquitens-class Cargo Cruiser was docked alongside one of the station's four docking bays, unloading the scrap, as a number of asteroids drifted lazily past, one of them noticeably larger than the rest of them. Far below the station, Mahporeem was preparing its next convey to go and pick up the material that Rust Haven had already gone through.

It was a simple and efficient operation, one that the Imperial Remnant had been doing for years now. Even before they had opened back up to the galaxy, Mahporeem had been well versed in the scrap trade, and the additional of new business partners had only increased the amount of scrap coming and going from the planet. To the Imperial Remnant, scrap was literally everything, the beating heart of a highly unusual and unconventional Imperial war machine seeking to spread its influence all across the galaxy.

Perhaps that was the problem.

Perhaps it was overconfidence. Perhaps it was just plain incompetence. Perhaps it was the very end of the security rotational detail, which had just left as the new shift was late to come cover them. Whatever the reason was, Rust Haven was for the moment seriously under defended, and if it were to be attacked, it was likely that any intruders would have a relatively easy time coming aboard or destroying the station before the Imperial Remnant could properly respond.

At least, that's how things appeared. Surely taking over Rust Haven would be nothing more than a simple matter for even the most disorganized of forces, no? It wasn't as if the Imperial Remnant would have any surprises for potential attackers...right?

The salvage station hung in the blackness of space like the carcass of some impossible celestial beast, its skeletal docking spars and gantries wrapped around derelict hulls harvested from a dozen forgotten battlefields.

I walked its shadowed corridors with measured grace, my boots clicking softly against grated durasteel while two salvage technicians hurried nervously ahead of me. Their uniforms smelled faintly of machine oil and recycled air, and I could feel their unease through the Force as clearly as one feels the heat of a nearby flame.

Vast chambers opened before us, filled with the dismembered remains of starfighters, frigates, and ancient transports suspended from magnetic cranes like sacrificial offerings upon iron altars.

"And these recovered hyperdrives," I asked softly, running red fingers along a dismantled reactor housing, "how many are deemed salvageable compared to those stripped for components?"

The taller technician nearly stumbled over his own words as he explained the station's categorization systems, inventory procedures, and refurbishment teams. I listened intently, my expression calm and unreadable, while inwardly I found myself approving of the efficiency displayed before me.

The deeper we ventured, the more pleased I became. Endless rows of organized storage vaults stretched beneath dim cerise illumination, each section meticulously labeled and tracked through interconnected logistics networks.

Massive droid-operated furnaces melted unusable wreckage into raw materials while nearby workshops transformed recovered technology into functioning equipment for the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant.

"And your security measures?" I inquired, watching servitors move crates of salvaged weapon components beneath watchful surveillance arrays. "How often are audits performed? What percentage of recovered materials are lost through error or theft?"

The technicians exchanged anxious glances before answering with surprising precision. Their responses revealed discipline rather than incompetence, procedure rather than chaos.

As I observed the station's ceaseless mechanical rhythm, I could not help but admire what I saw. There was purpose here. Order. Profit. The station consumed the dead remnants of war and birthed utility from ruin, much as carrion creatures fed upon fallen giants.

Beneath the cold gaze of the stars, amidst the groaning metal and distant screams of cutting torches, I found myself mentally approving of nearly every aspect of the operation.

The Mahporeem Imperial Remnant had built something practical, something enduring, and in a galaxy drowning in decay, such competence was a treasure rarer than any relic hidden within the station's cavernous vaults.

CAPTAIN CHARLES
MIN Stryker | En Route to Rust Haven

The Crew had familiarized themselves with the upgraded MIN Stryker, the new ships of First Scouting Squadron were under construction, the Cadets were being trained. It seemed everything was going Captain Charles’s way as he sat enjoying a drink at a space port cafe. After the whirlwind of projects that he and his Crew had to do following the Remnant’s victory at Doan it was nice to have a break before getting back into the action.

Today’s mission would be simple. Escort a convoy picking up processed materials from the Rust Haven Station. A simple task, though even simple tasks require attention to detail Charles thought taking another sip of his drink. It was a routine mission, placed at an ideal time. Charles had decided that the Cadets had progressed far enough in their training to be awarded a weekend break. Luckily the mission fell on the first day of that break giving him and his Crew plenty of time to complete the mission, rest, then get back to training the Cadets.

The base PA sounded as Charles was about to take another sip.

“Convoy PQ-6967 departs in 30 minutes all crews report to your ships. I repeat all crews report to your ships.”

Charles set down his drink. It was time.

– 45 Minutes Later | En Route to Rust Haven –

If Charles was completely honest with himself he was skeptical of the new AI system at first. He and his Crew had been already quite in tune with each other and he had assumed that the AI would be redundant, unnecessary and ruin the carefully built ecosystem on board the Stryker.

But after a few drills he was proven wrong. The system increased his Crew’s efficiency by nearly 50 percent, increasing the processing and reaction speed of the already experienced crew to levels that would have been impossible in any other condition.

Turning his attention back to his displays Charles noticed that the other escorts were lagging behind. According to ATLAS, they were 10 minutes away and had been held up due to confusion in the guard rotation schedule. That meant the Stryker was alone guarding 8 transports. Not ideal if a threat were to appear.

“Comms tell the security ships to hurry up.” Said Charles.

“On it!” Came the response.

Almost simultaneously a notification popped up on Charles’s display telling him the message had been sent and received.

“They said they are trying sir. It seems they are still getting in formation and all that.” Reported his Communications Officer.

“Roger.” Responded Charles turning his attention back outside. The Rust Haven was coming into view, its large silhouette visible in the distance.

Those security ships had better hurry up Charles thought. I’m don’t like the idea of having to babysit 8 transports all alone.

Saram's Equipment

Objective Two

A tidy payout and hamstringing a potential opponent of the Farworlds Alliance? Shab yes, how could she say no to an offer like that. Their corvette had arrived in the system a short while ago, hopefully undetected thanks to its low observability mode and advanced geometry hyperspace bubble or some other osik like that. Their gunship was now underway, on final approach to the station under full stealth protocols. The cabin had fallen into silence, with only the subtle slicking of magazines and faint mumming of power cells as last minute gear checks were performed.

Saram barely felt the gunship subtly decelerate as it came to a stop next to the station. The gunship came to a halt and the cabin was bathed in a green light. "Ride's over, signal for pickup when you need it. I'll be on station," called Rav over the gunship's intercom.

"Alrighbt, ad'ike, just like we planned. Team solus, go EVA, breach two airlocks over. Team T'ad, we're going in the standard route, hit them hard and fast. We breach togeher," reminded Saram as they all split into their respective teams.

Ran, Viraen, Janar and Rusana would head toward the reactor and place charges while she took Anila, Jaing and Vikhar to hit the security control room. Their objective was to ideally send the Imps into disarray, but who knew, maybe they'd get luck and find this Ronhar Tane Ronhar Tane shabuir. No skin off her back if he wasn't home.

All these Imp stations were almost the same, which was to her benefit. As tbe old saying went, 'Never correct your enemy when he is making a mistake. Not that any Imps would listen to her even if she cared to for some di'kutla reason.

Saram and her team held position until the other team was in position. Saram watched over the picture-in-picture helmet feed as TWT-01 Thermal Well Tape was applied to the outer door of one of the airlocks. "That's out cue," Saram said over team comms Jaing moved the gunship's Ventral Plasma Cut Boarding Device into place.

The breach signal went out over the battlenet a moment later. Frequency, hopping, encrypted, nothing that would give them away. The TWT-01 Thermal Well burned bright as the gunship's plasma cut boarding device made short work of the airlock they were entering through. Saram and the other commandos activated their armor's active stealth features as Jaing snaked a Extendable, Articulated, Steerable Electro Photo Receptor Nanocam from his gauntlet-vambrace unit through the gunship's open ventral hatch.

Saram and the rest of Davaab squad boarded the station, armor stealth features active, invisible as wraiths in the night, moving fast and with weapons up and at the ready. Rav peeled their gunship off, moving further and further away on the tactical map. They were no on their own with the Imps, the poor shabuire.

Karkosuchus didn't lift his head when the first distant boom rumbled through the deck plates. His massive, clawed hands were buried deep inside a rusted bin of scrap metal, sorting through a pile of salvaged coupling manifolds for his starship.

Finding decent parts out here in Mahporeem was a pain and he wasn't about to let a little noise interrupt his search. Then, the main power grid gave out. The harsh overhead lights died instantly, plunging the salvage bay into near-total darkness before the emergency system kicked over.

A piercing whine began to blare from the klaxons overhead, and the narrow corridors outside flooded with the harsh, pulsing crimson of the backup beacons. Karkosuchus dropped a heavy iron manifold back into the bin with a loud clatter. He let out a low, irritated hiss, the sound vibrating deep in his chest.

Whoever was attacking the station had terrible timing. He didn't know if it was a rival pirate crew, local scavengers, or some organized militia, and frankly, he didn't care. The Mahporeem Remnant under Ronhar Tane Ronhar Tane was paying him to keep this junk heap secure, and these uninvited guests ( Saram Kote Saram Kote ) were currently getting between him and his ship repairs.

Turning away from the salvage bins, he gripped his heavy weapon and stepped out into the bleeding red glow of the hallway. His massive silhouette stretched long and distorted against the bulkheads, a shifting monster in the dark.

With every deliberate step forward, his immense weight sent a shudder through the deck plates, the metal groaning and cracking under his feet as he marched toward the sound of the intrusion. For anyone nearby, his piercing yellow eyes shone through the shadows, accompanied by a booming roar that erupted from deep within his chest.

RANDOM PATROL ZONE
MAHPOREEM IMPERIAL REMNANT SPACE
OBJECTIVE I: ORBITAL DEBRIS

Hypheer Vhyrn lounged comfortably in the cockpit of the Queen Vhyrn's Revenge, boots propped up against a console that technically wasn't designed for boot placement. The fighter cruised through its assigned patrol route while stars drifted silently past the canopy. A bored sigh escaped her. "This is criminal."

From the astromech socket at the nose of the fighter, R-X answered with a series of electronic chirps transmitted directly through the fighter's internal comm system.

"No. Worse than criminal."

Another chirp.

"Exactly. Boring."

The droid produced a skeptical whistle through the cockpit speakers.

Hypheer pointed in front of her toward the astromech socket. "Don't give me that. You think it's boring too."

A flat series of tones followed.

"Oh, so now you're a professional soldier."

The astromech responded immediately.

"Well excuse me, Your Excellency. I wasn't aware you were conducting vital military operations back there."

R-X's answer came with an exaggerated burst of electronic static that somehow conveyed pure sarcasm.

Hypheer laughed. "That's different. I was testing reaction times."

The droid's response came instantly.

"One officer's reaction times." A grin spread across her face. "Details." The fighter continued onward through the darkness.

For a moment neither spoke. Hypheer watched the stars while R-X monitored the fighter's systems far more diligently than its pilot was monitoring hers. Then she leaned forward. "You know, statistically speaking, something exciting should happen soon."

The droid emitted a doubtful tone.

"What do you mean that's not how statistics work?"

A longer, increasingly exasperated series of beeps followed through the comm.

Hypheer nodded thoughtfully. "I understand every word you're saying and choose to disagree."

R-X answered with a noise that somehow managed to sound deeply unimpressed.

"Well when something exciting does happen, I'm putting that in my report."

The droid gave a final dismissive whistle.

Hypheer settled back into her seat, smiling despite herself. Patrol duty might be boring. At least she wasn't bored alone.

Makar sat at the helm of the lead ship , a Cruiser named "Tethys", with a confident smirk on his face. He'd once fought against the Galactic Alliance, now he was fighting on the side of its remnants. To think that he had been asked by the great Jonyna Si to support an attack on an Imperial remnant. Makar had initially been skeptical, but then she offered him a trove of credits and salvage. That was enough to secure the aid of Cerberus Fleet.

"All ships, form up alongside Tethys and fire all long range weapons! The convoy is in sight," He said, beginning to send messages to each ship's captain. First to move in were three Delphin-class warships, all with their Warhead Launchers at the ready. As soon as the Delphins were in range, they launched a salvo of 30 Proton Rockets.

The tactic was simple, meet the convoy broadside and fire into them with the rockets before the Mahporeem remnant could react. Makar knew that if the Imperials were allowed to call for security, then they'd be able to route the pirate armada. Besides the Delphins and the single Verne-class Cruiser, they only had three corvettes to their number.

"All hands, make ready for a hasty retreat should reinforcements arrive! For now it seems they have but one cruiser, the advantage is ours!" Makar's words rang out over the comms, joined by the rowdy chorus of his crew.

OPERATIONAL PURPOSE: MAINTAIN READINESS
RESOURCE ALLOCATION: VANGUARD REFIT FUND
IDLE STATE: UNACCEPTABLE

Statistics did not comfort machines. They only identified the shape of a problem before it arrived, reducing chaos to patterns, patterns to predictions, and predictions to executable action. At the far edge of the patrol zone, where Rust Haven Station was still little more than black geometry pinned against the shine of Mahporeem below, a point of violet light tore open and died in the same breath. It was not bright enough to be a flare. It was not loud enough to be a warning. It came and went with the ugly precision of a system error corrected before most sensors had time to agree it had happened at all.

A Vanguard-class gunship translated from hyperspace in the wake of that violet afterglow, its silhouette familiar by registry and increasingly dishonest by inspection. Its frame was still recognizably Hex-built: compact, brutal, and made to carry violence through heavy fire. Yet parts of it had already been stripped, reworked, and scarred by modifications that had no concern for symmetry. External panels had been removed and replaced with temporary plating. Cable runs followed new paths along the dorsal spine. The hyperdrive housing did not belong there. It functioned. That was sufficient.

Within the cockpit, D-M0N did not sit so much as occupy the command position. The skeletal droid's bone-white face remained motionless beneath the dim pulse of the interior lights, red optics fixed on the widening tactical projection. The system was already polluted with overlapping signatures: patrol craft, escorts, cargo traffic, station emissions, emergency grid fluctuations, encrypted bursts, and scrambled battlenet ghosts. The first signs of intrusion had already bloomed across Rust Haven's skin. Others had arrived first. This did not alter the contract.

LOCAL THEATER UPDATE:

RUST HAVEN STATION: ACTIVE
PRIMARY POWER GRID: DEGRADED
EMERGENCY RESPONSE: INITIATED
BOARDING EVENT: CONFIRMED
HOSTILE / FRIENDLY IDENTIFICATION: UNRESOLVED

PARALLEL CONTRACTORS DETECTED.
CLASSIFICATION: NON-ALLY / NON-OBSTRUCTION
ENGAGEMENT RULE: IGNORE UNLESS INTERFERENCE OCCURS.

D-M0N allowed the Vanguard to drift cold among the debris clutter. The gunship's active emissions bled down to a predatory minimum, one unnecessary system after another going silent until the ship was little more than a dark shape with weapons, engines, and intent. The violet pulse in the Hyperviolet retrofit dimmed behind matte-black housing, reduced from a trademark glow to a faint internal bruise.

No challenge was broadcast. No rebel frequency was answered. No pirate channel was hailed. The droid observed the patrol pattern instead, marking the fighter moving along one of the outer routes. Casual enough to suggest boredom. Armed enough to make boredom dangerous. D-M0N calculated an evasion cone and filed the craft beneath acceptable risk. There was no profit in beginning the contract with a dogfight, and no logic in announcing an arrival that had not yet been noticed.

A narrow-band transmission left the Vanguard in a compressed burst toward the nearest bounty relay node, routed twice and stripped of sentiment.

<D-M0N. Alias "Demon." Contract interest confirmed. Sabotage/destruction criteria accepted. Live recovery clause acknowledged.>

The message ended there. Anything more would have been personality.

The Vanguard rotated slowly, presenting its ventral profile toward the station. External clamps unlocked with a muted tremor through the hull. Inside the troop compartment, the empty seats waited in two dead rows, not yet replaced by prisoner cages, cryo-stasis frames, carbonite infrastructure, restraint racks, interrogation hardware, or the other systems the droid had already allocated future credits toward. For now, the vessel was not complete. For now, it was a chassis with weapons, engines, and potential.

D-M0N rose. His cloak shifted around the angular lines of his frame as he moved through the gunship's interior, purple fabric dragging over scarred plating and concealed hardpoints, softening nothing. A weapon locked against his spine. Another locked low against his frame. He grabbed two sets of restraints, securing them beneath the fall of his cloak. Lethal force remained the simplest solution to most variables. It was not always the most profitable. His gait carried no haste; each step landed with the exact same interval as the one before it.

At the ventral hatch, he paused while the gunship's systems painted a fresh entry vector across his vision.

INSERTION VECTOR SELECTED:

PRIMARY AIRLOCKS: COMPROMISED / CONTESTED
KNOWN BREACH POINTS: ACTIVE / HIGH TRAFFIC
SALVAGE PROCESSING ACCESS: VIABLE
MAINTENANCE CRAWL NETWORK: VIABLE
EXTERIOR HULL APPROACH: RECOMMENDED

The hatch opened, and space took him without drama. D-M0N fell upward from the Vanguard, magnetic grapples firing in silence as micro-thrusters corrected his drift. Rust Haven Station expanded before him, huge and wounded, its industrial bones wrapped in emergency light and old metal. It was a machine built to eat the dead remnants of war and produce something useful from them. D-M0N approved of the concept. He did not approve of its ownership.

A roar trembled faintly through the station structure as his audio receptors filtered through hull vibration and emergency comm chatter. Massive organic. Irritated. Armed. Moving toward the intrusion. The droid tagged the sound, compared it against known threat classes, and assigned it a temporary designation.

AUDIO EVENT: INTERNAL ROAR
SOURCE: LARGE BIOLOGICAL / UNKNOWN SPECIES
DISTANCE: INDETERMINATE
DIRECTION: TOWARD PRIMARY BREACH

THREAT INDEX: ELEVATED
CONTRACT RELEVANCE: CONDITIONAL

His boots struck the station hull. Magnetic locks bit.

D-M0N crouched against the exterior plating, one clawed hand braced to the cold metal while his optics narrowed against reflected emergency light. Beneath him, Rust Haven shuddered with alarms, reactors, machinery, and fear. Organic fear bled through comm discipline in small, predictable ways: sharper voices, faster orders, unnecessary repetition. The station was not dead yet, but parts of it already understood the possibility.

A cutting tool extended from D-M0N's wrist. He selected a seam near a maintenance access panel, not because it was weak, but because it was useful. The first bright line of heat carved into the metal. He worked without flourish, without anger, and without the animal impatience of raiders or the ideological heat of rebels. Each motion was economical. Each spark fell away into the void.

Inside, someone wanted to sabotage the station. Someone wanted to defend it. Someone wanted to profit from it. D-M0N wanted the contract state resolved.

The panel gave way with a silent twist. He caught it before it could drift, secured it to the hull, and folded his frame through the access space with the unsettling ease of something designed to fit where organics could not. The station's internal maintenance crawl accepted him into darkness. Behind him, the maintenance panel remained open to space for three seconds longer, just enough for the darkness outside to look like it was watching. Then the panel sealed itself shut.

It had been some time since Hanna had last taken a contract from Imperials of the non-Mandalorian variety. For the most part, the Death Watch provided all the work she needed, in addition to sponsorship which allowed her to maintain and upgrade her equipment with funding provided by the Mandalorian Empire. It was an irresistible arrangement for any mercenary. And yet, Hanna knew that she could extract the most value out of it by continuing to work, even jobs that fell outside of the Mandalorian Empire’s purview. Since she used the same gear for Mandalorian and non-Mandalorian contracts, she could take a job, receive free ammunition and repairs upon completion, and then take another job, thusly continuing the cycle of paid work and complimentary upkeep.

Unlike most of her assignments, this particular contract held little promise of action. In that, it was a standard security detail, paying her to defend the station against pirate raids, unauthorized scavengers, saboteurs, or any other manner of threat. While she did not normally take security contracts, for this one, she had decided to make an exception.

With the collapse of the Imperial Confederation (who she had previously worked for), Hanna needed to get a foot back in the door with the Imperials. After all, Marlon Sularen Marlon Sularen and the Final Dawn were particularly known for putting out lucrative contracts. She needed to prove that she was reliable and capable, in order to be given top consideration for future opportunities.

Seated on a crate inside the salvage bay, Hanna had just finished tuning up the gyroscopic stabilizers in one of her repulsorlift skates when the first boom rumbled through the deck plates. The Qilin glanced up as the klaxons screeched an alarm, her eyes narrowing as their shrill cry shattered the bay's ambience. Nevertheless, she quickly re-locked the skate before floating upright as the repulsorlifts silently purred back to power. Nearby, the massive reptilian mercenary—who she recognized as the infamous Karkosuchus Karkosuchus —gave a low, predatory hiss as he stomped out of the salvage bay, a heavy weapon cradled within his claws.

She was grateful that the legendary Cannibal was on her side.

Hanna drew her pistols and sped off toward the location of the threat, her helmet automatically unfolding over her head with a soft hiss in the process. Its visor snapped into place, her HUD blooming to life as the hallway sharpened into tactical clarity.

It was time to earn her paycheck. And her reputation, as well!

Deep in the bowels of the station, away from prying eyes and under the cover of a salvage operation, Inferno Squad's testing continued on their new armor. With Mahporeem doing the heavy lifting of development, Inferno was testing it at a state-of-the-art facility hidden within the junkyard station, a perfect cover. It wasn't a large facility; it could only hold a few individuals, the research team, and Inferno itself, but it was well stocked with what they needed to get the armor tested. Around them, the station continued on, doing its work for the Remnant whilst secreting Inferno and a handful of high-level technicians within its halls.

"Alright, we're gonna test the shielding now," the technician said to Saltare, adjusting some machinery until it was pointed at him, "Just hold still, please."

Saltare didn't move, staring into the barrel of a blaster that was strapped to the machine. The machine activated, spitting out red blaster bolts toward him. His armor's shielding kicked in, deflecting and absorbing them as alarms began to blink on his HUD, indicating the failing shield generator. The technician turned the machine off before that happened, and Saltare breathed a little easier.

"That was able to absorb nearly an entire gas cannister from this blaster, pretty handy, honestly. If the shields fail," the technician said, walking up to Saltare and tapping the armor itself, "the material can absorb quite a bit of punishment before failing itself. Don't forget about the secondary personal shielding in the vambrace. It won't cover your entire body, but it's good for stopping bolts and other projectiles. Oh, and remember, the Echani shields won't stop kinetics, just blaster and energy-based attacks."

"Alright, now let's test out the sensors in the shoulder pads," the technician continued, "We'll see what they can penetrate through, what they can see, et cetera. Once that is done, we have a few pieces of armor handy nearby, so we'll let you test them yourselves. See what kinds of damage they can absorb, so you have an idea of how they function in the field. Any questions so far before we continue?"

Saltare shook his head, hoping something would interrupt him so he could get a break. He'd been at this for four hours already, ironing out the software and seeing what the armor could do. He needed to take a leak, but they hadn't hooked up the catheter to him yet; that wouldn't come until the armor was given the go-ahead into full production, so he just had to hold it for now.

He sighed inwardly, watching as the tech began to set up obstacles for his sensors. Saltare began testing to see whether the sensors could penetrate through durasteel and a myriad of other materials to detect the signatures behind them.

Just a few more hours, he thought.

CAPTAIN CHARLES
MIN Stryker | Rust Haven Sector

The rockets showed up on the tactical display all at once. Thirty of them fired from 3 Delphin-class Frigates. Data from ATLAS was also showing 1 Verne-class Armored Cruiser and 3 Circinus-class Bulk Corvettes. A sizable force Charles thought.

“Helm, evasive maneuvers. Dodge right.” Ordered Charles.

“Aye sir.” Responded the Helm Officer.

The Stryker banked hard to the right. ATLAS automatically engaged AIMS and SLAB as needed which allowed the Stryker to easily dodge the rockets.

However, the transports were not as lucky. Four rockets hit the MIN Hauler breaking through the shields and devastating the hull. She soon fell out of formation trailing fire and smoke. Another three rockets slammed into the MIN Rusty crippling the ship. The rest missed streaking past the convoy into the empty void beyond.

“Comms tell the transports to scatter and fall back to Mahporeem. Then tell Command that there is an enemy force up here near Rust Haven. I suspect the station itself is also under attack and there are more enemy forces incoming. We are going to need a lot of support fast.”

“On it sir.” Responded the Comms Officer moving with textbook precision.

Charles turned his attention back to the data ATLAS was providing him in real time. The cruiser was staying back, enemy frigates were turning away, but the corvettes were pressing the attack. Charging in to finish off the crippled transports.

“Not on my watch.” Charles muttered to himself.

The Corvettes closed in. ATLAS had already analyzed the threat: well armored, short range point defense weapons and sluggish. Charles issued his orders.

“Helm, cross their T, while doing that Gunnery deploy the space mines. That should force them to change course. From there coordinate with Tactical to control the engagement distance. Don’t let them get in range to hit us.”

“After the mines are deployed concentrate all laser and turbo laser fire on the corvettes to deplete their shields and armor. We will finish them off with a salvo of Warp Stars.”

“Aye sir.” Responded all three in unison already getting to work.

It was textbook. The Stryker crossed the T deploying space mines and firing turbolasers as she went. The corvettes saw the mines and changed course away from the transports switching their target to the Stryker. A fatal mistake.

Charles knew that they would never be able to close the distance enough to fire. He saw Helm baiting them slowing down just enough so they thought they had a chance before accelerating just out of their range once more. It was only a matter of time.

CAPTAIN RONHAR TANE, TK-3301
RUST HAVEN STATION
OBJECTIVE II: BEASTIE BOYS

"Cmon' Cap'n, can't we keep it?", implored one of Ronhar's ARC Troopers.

Ronhar looked down at the strange droid that was bounding around the station and he and his team waited for the MIN Night Reaver to finish receiving its final repairs. They had stumbled upon the droid completely by accident as the station's mechanics had gone through the latest scrap shipment when looking for spare parts. Instead of what they needed to finish fixing the Night Reaver, they had encountered the playful dog like droid in front of them, and it had become an instant hit with the members of Salvage Team Six, who immediately began pestering Ronhar to adopt the droid as the team's official mascot.

In all honesty, Ronhar was somewhat adverse to taking such a strange and unknown droid with them, especially one that had apparently been slated for its final destruction. But with all the battles that he and his men had fought, and all the losses that they had taken, having such a droid might not be the worst thing in the world for picking up overall morale.

Ronhar took a closer look at the droid as it sat down in front of him, its photoreceptors locked onto Ronhar as it tilted its head off to one side. Ronhar had to admit that the droid was kind of cute. Honestly, how much trouble could it really cause? Ronhar was sure that his technicians could wipe the droid of any viruses or hearing devices it might have been implanted with, and he couldn't say that he felt all too threatened by what he was seeing in front of him.

He had finally made his decision!

"Fine, we can take the droid, but if anything happens, I'm holding YOU responsible", Ronhar replied half jokingly and half seriously as he squatted down to pet the droid on its head. A chorus of cheers went out through his men as they all swore up and down that nothing bad would happen and that they would personally be responsible for maintaining the droid going forward.

It was at that point that the lights suddenly began flickering on and off.

"The hell?", Ronhar muttered as the lights died entirely, only to come back online as the backup generators kicked in, restoring emergency power to the station. Alarms suddenly began blaring all throughout as a robotic voice began making annoucements:

[WARNING. WARNING. HOSTILE FLEET DETECTED. ALL UNITS, PLEASE REPORT TO YOUR BATTLE STATIONS. WE ARE UNDER ATTACK. REPEAT: WE ARE UNDER ATTACK]

Blast!

"LET'S MOVE!", Ronhar shouted to his men as they donned their equipment and went rushing down the nearest hallway. An attacking fleet meant that the station was being attacked, and THAT meant that there were likely to be intruders boarding the station, probably trying to steal as much scrap as they could as possible. For a station like Rust Haven, taking the facility over wouldn't be particularly hard to do, as the entire station only contained a garrison of 150 men and a measly four starfighters in total. Even a pirate force could probably take the station given enough time: and there was no guarantee that it was only pirates attacking.

Whatever it was, Ronhar would be ready!

Blast doors began slamming shut all around him as the station's sentry turrets came online. As he continued moving forward, he couldn't help but notice the little droid following behind him...

FINAL DAWN
CHOLGANNA, OUTER RIM TERRITORIES

The blast doors leading to the Central Command Terminal hissed open as Marlon Sularen entered the vast room. Before him, the vast command center was full of activity as Imperial officers rushed around actively monitoring the unfolding situation on Mahporeem. The Supreme Commander paid no attention to them, as his focus was on the large holographic display of the space surrounding Mahporeem as he walked up towards it, soon finding one of his most trusted subordinates, Rackham, also observing the holographic display.

"What are we looking at, Deputy Director?" the Supreme Commander said, addressing Rackham by his new title: the Deputy Director of the Diplomatic Services within the Politorate. "A Pirate Raid on Mahporeem. A Hostile fleet just entered the system and began attacking local Imperial forces," the Deputy-Director explained. "Their target appears to be one of Mahporeem's Salvage Stations: Rust Haven," Rackham added. Now standing beside Rackham, Sularen proceeded to stroke his beard as he examined the current battlefield. "Then why all the attention and alarms?" Sularen inquired. "Mahporeem should be able to handle a few mere pirates."

"It's because of who's truly behind the attack," Rackham responded. He then took out a datapad and handed it over to the Supreme Commander. "Shortly before the attack, we caught wind of this," Rackham explained as Sularen examined the datapad, noticing it contained an image of an active sabotage bounty posted by Jonyna Si targeting Mahporeem's Salvage Yards. "Jonyna Si..." Sularen muttered, instantly recognizing the gravity of the situation at hand. "So the Wild Space Rebellion is behind this attack, huh. I didn't think they'd rely on proxies to strike at Imperial targets," the Supreme Commander remarked.

"So do I," Rackham stated. "Which is why I believe the real attack has yet to begin. This is merely just a warm-up," he added. "The Wild Space Rebellion is out there, and they're waiting for the right moment to pounce on Mahporeem," the Deputy-Director proclaimed. "Then we take pre-emptive methods to ensure that their plans are foiled," Sularen answered. "Have Admiral Hamilton mobilize his fleet and head for Mahporeem as soon as possible, and get me in touch with Grand Moff von Strauss and Admiral Rakel," the Supreme Commander ordered. "We must be ready for anything these Rebels throw at us."

Fleet Comp:
Objective One
Zoro watched with baited breath as his holo-table of the evolving battlefield updated. Raven Squadron had gotten close enough to Captain Charles Captain Charles 's flagship they could see the guns firing individually towards the oncoming pirate fleet.

"The transports are slipping away. That's our cue."

Zoro turned to his comms officer, giving him a stern look.

"Send an order to Raptor. Slip behind the moon of Bumos and launch it's B-wings. We'll have them hit the transports from maximum range. Ambush them."

"Aye sir!"

As the comms officer got to work relaying orders, a runner entered the bridge.

"Sir!"

Zoro swiveled his chair, turning to look to the runner. "What is it soldier?"

"We've gotten word from the hanger. Davaab Squad has infiltrated the salvage station."

"Good. Saram can take care of that himself. Is that all? I take it you wouldn't be running if-"

"No sir! We've gotten updated intel from the hyperwave scanners. Our spies have gotten wind of incoming imperial forces. They'll be moving in soon, under Admiral Hamilton."

Zoro snarled. He was hoping for the big prize, but he'd have to take what he could get. The destruction of even a smaller force would draw out the bald bastard.

"Thank you soldier. Return to your post."

The toydarian saluted, before running back. Zoro whipped around, looking to his crew.

"Shift position towards the incoming imperial hyperlane. We'll hit them on arrival."

It all happened so fast. The Ambush Class Frigate moved through the silence of space, still under stealth as it hid behind the small moon, out of sight from any sensor the token imperial force could aim at it. Then it launched it's force. Eight "Predator" B-Wings that used the dark side of the moon as cover to push in. They'd be seen, but Zoro didn't much mind. A token two squadrons would be seen as major threat. Not yet.

He wanted to keep his cards close to his chest.

Still, that token force was still two squadrons of heavy B-wings. From a range that would the gunners on those imperial transports blush, the B-wings opened up with their Spot Ion Cannons towards the fleeing transports, intent on disabling them before moving in for the kill.

The Imperial forces would come down on them, but they were tough birds.

All the while, the main fleet shifted it's position. Guns lying in wait for the arrival of the fleet.

"One last thing."
Zoro said with a sharp breath. "Grayson, send a hyperwave message out towards Shuklaar Kyrdol Shuklaar Kyrdol and Aether of the Iron Order Aether of the Iron Order . If we can't pin Sully himself down, then we can at least shred his underling to pieces."

"Aye sir."

RUST HAVEN STATION
MAHPOREEM IMPERIAL REMNANT SPACE
OBJECTIVE I: ORBITAL DEBRIS

The effects of the pirate attack on Rust Haven Station were immediate.

The moment that the pirates appeared on sensors, the entire station went into lockdown as the small Imperial fleet guarding it scrambled into action. The Nebulon Fire-class Light Carrier made a beeline for the rear of the station, intending to use the station itself as cover from any enemy fire, gambling that the pirates were trying to seize Rust Haven instead of destroying it outright. From its hangars sprang out three squadrons of AX-Wings, whose turbolaser cannon and point defense blasters would prove useful against the frigates and corvettes that the pirates had brought with them. The station itself sent out what little fighter support it was able to carry, a single squadron of NZ Legiones R-I2/A Starfighters, whose railgun cannons would also be effective against the pirate fleet. The Arquitens-class Cargo Cruiser, which was now stuck being attached to the Rust Haven's western docking port, began shooting its laser cannons and point defense lasers at the approaching pirates, though such efforts were having negligible, if any, effects on the more heavily armored capital ships of the pirate fleet. Worse still, two squadrons of "Predator" B-Wings had joined the attack, though they had also elected to target the transport that were attempting to make their way to Rust Haven, leaving the station itself unharmed.

All in all, things were looking rather grim for the Imperials.

But perhaps it was the pirates and the rebels who were now overconfident, as the Imperial Remnant still had more than a few tricks up its sleeves. As the B-Wing flew passed the "small moon", it suddenly began rotating toward their direction. Perhaps their flight vectors had somehow caused the celestial object to start rotating from the force of their engines? Maybe one of them had impacted the object, sending it into an uncontrolled spin? Or perhaps...something else was going on here?

In all likeliness, the rebels had mistaken the object for the moon of Bumos, which was currently on the other side of the planet. They had likely intended to use the object to cover their approach to the station, though had it actually have been Bumos, the B-Wings would have been instantly detected and fired upon by the Dome City Prison Complex on the surface of the moon. From a distance, one would be forgiven for assuming the asteroid they were flying passed was indeed a moon of some sort.

But in reality, it was far worse.

As the object finished its rotation, it started firing at the fleeing B-Wings, as dozens of laser cannons and ion cannons began spewing bolts at the rebel craft. The "moon", or "asteroid" was no mere natural entity. Rather, the rebels had inadvertently stumbled upon one of the Imperial Remnant's Asteroid Defense Platforms, which was now spewing out fire in all directions. Some shots were aimed at the advancing pirate fleet while others at the rebel fighter craft. A few stray bolts streaked toward the ambush frigate that had deployed them in the first place, though the Imperials had no way of knowing that it was there at all. Five squadrons of TIE/D Vultures and five squadrons of TIE Striders came streaming out of the Asteroid Defense Platform, intent on crushing the rebel strikecraft in one swift blow. Within mere minutes, what had previously been a quite and sparsely populated salvage station was now buzzing with hundreds of Mahporeenian fighters.

The pirates and the rebels had fallen for the Imperial Remnant's trap!

Of course, there was still no way that the Imperial Remnant could have known that Jonyna Si Jonyna Si 's fleet was hiding nearby, ready to strike, and in all honesty it would have been much better had the Imperials kept their fighters in reserve and the existence of their space station secret. Now, the rebels would know exactly what they were up against, and the Imperials were none the wiser. The moment that the rebel fleet revealed itself, the Imperial Remnant would once again be in serious trouble. But for just this moment, it appeared that the Imperials were getting the situation under hand, though for how much longer remained to be seen...

Saram's Equipment

Objective Two

If the station defenders weren't aware of the attack with the twin breaches that heralded their arrival, they certainly were now. Saram and her team slid under the blast door in front of them as it shut. Of course things didn't end there, a turret above her came to life. She was a fractions of a second faster. If not for the stealth tech their beskar'gam was laden with, she was sure that at this range she'd either have breathed her last or be nursing a nasty wound in an Imperial prison cell.

A trio of guided SLAP rounds from her Verpine Shatter Battle rifle couldn't miss and she couldn't think of the alloy or composite that these rounds wouldn't at least put a dent in. Thankfully for her, the rounds went right through the turret's optics. Her armor's stealth field didn't even flicker as stood to her full height a moment later.

"Plan's the same," she said over the comms to her squad a moment later. "Let me see about this shabla lockdown." Turrets aboard a station were standard security they had drilled for over a decade to be on the watchout for, she felt no need to remind Ran to keep his head down and to encourage his team to do the same.

"Suvar, alor. We'll go through them the slow way till then," came Ran's repones. Saram couldn't help but chuckle. The slow way, that meant counter security measures and plasma cutters, explosives if those didn't work. You couldn't ask for a better diversion. "Jaing, door," she called idly, over team comms.

Saram's fire team stacked up on the door till Jaing worked his magic, the stock store bought anti-security kind in this case. She didn't complain. When a stock solution worked, why overcomplicate life? It was complicated enough as it was. They moved through the station in this manner, neutralizing the turrets that couldn't see them in any event and using their anti-security blades to force their way past the sealed blast doors.

Saram was distinctly aware of the fact that she'd left anyone watching the security systems a nice trail leading toward them but she didn't plan on leaving anyone in the control room who'd come to this conclusion alive for much longer. Alive long enough to see that information used against them, anyway. Whether that possible or not remained to be seen.

Her beskar'gam's detection suite had picked up two lifeforms ahead, but given that this place was shabla packed with life forms that was hardly surprising. That of course was when she saw the massive imposing form of Karkosuchus Karkosuchus as they forced open one of the blast doors. Still hidden from view, Saram threw herself behind the frame that the blast door had come from.

"What's the shabla issue?" hissed Jaing over team comms as he looked away from the door panel, no doubt having seen her sudden movement. The sudden movement did cause her armor's camouflage suite to flicker for the briefest of moments. Had he or his backup seen her? They'd know in a moment, that was for sure.

"That's Karko-shabla-suchus," she hissed back in a hushed tone, almost as if she was afraid that if she spoke too loudly he would hear her somehow. "I am not just going to walk out into that hallway."

"I'd head that Jetii'ika you hang around had killed him years ago," mused Vikhar idly over team comms. "Set him on fire or something."

"Evidently not," deadpanned Anila in response in classic fashion. "He looks pretty good for some shabuire who apparently got set on fire," she added, matter of fact.

"Ideas?" prompted Saram, more than a little annoyed. "I don't give a shab if he looks fine after supposedly being burned. How the shab do you propose killing him?"

"Could do the usual and shoot him a lot," mused Vikhar aloud over team comms. No doubt distinctly aware that his overly simplistic solution had been less than well received, he added, "It's a solution."

"Oh for shab's sake. I've got a plan, hukaat!" she ordered as she dropped to a crouch and peeked around cover with Jaing and Vikhar laying a vicious hail of anti-armor guided depleted baradium sabots from their Verpine Shatter flechette launcher and autocannon respectively. Saram in the meanwhile brought her arms up and attempted to pull Hanna Hanna into the line of fire with her tractor-pressor beam projector and keep her from firing back by ensnaring her with her clingwire launcher.

Breshig-Divider.png

Ran and his team made their way through the lockdown using the same anti-security blade that Jaing had. Of course, they didn't have such an obstacle in their way, so it was fairly easy for them to make their way toward their objective at the reactor. Of course, he hoped his alor was going to get to the issue of the security locked own sooner rather than later, it was starting to get tedious dealing with all these blast doors. So far with the lockdown, they hadn't dealt with any patrols. Hard to patrol when bulkheads had been sealed. Though he'd take tedium over a 'oh osik how are there so many of them' scenario every time.

A second stealth gunship slipped into the hanger, but it wasn't a squad that exitted it. It was a single man, a single suit of armor. He was by no means as quiet as his vode had been, but he was following their path the same. They'd dealt with the security, and he just needed to follow in their footsteps.

Saram was the first to hear him as he moved from the hanger bay towards the security hall. The heavy footfalls of metal on metal.

Strill's newest hire. The crazed ramikad who had steered a sithspawn worm through the streets of Coruscant via mortar fire.

He didn't say a word as he slipped that same corner, other than a single word.
"Covering."

Bringing his shotgun right over Saram's head, he fired a glop grenade right at the roaring beast's face. Then he opened up with six slamfire bursts of depleted baradium at it's chest.

Imperial Officer/Loving Husband
CAPTAIN CHARLES
MIN Stryker | Rust Haven

"Sir, the Asteroid Defense Platform reports that they have spotted and are engaging a group of enemy B-Wings." Reported his Comms Officer.

"Roger that." Responded Charles. Something didn't sit right with him. The squadron had been detected on the opposite side of the convoy. Charles knew that the Stryker's sensors would have picked them up as they tried to flank around, even at long range so how did they get there. There was only one answer, Stealth.

"Comms get me in direct contact with Admiral Hamilton at once. There are stealth ships here." Ordered Charles with a slight hiss.

"What would you like me to say sir." Asked his Comms Officer.

"Tell them to not jump into this system yet and that there are stealth ships. We cannot afford having an entire fleet getting ambushed. Who knows how many other stealthed ships are around."

"At once sir." Replied his Comms Officer before sending the message.

"Sensor, switch to passive only. Have ATLAS compile all magnetic and ion trail data from the beginning of the battle and let me know what you find."

"Aye sir."

A moment passed. The Stryker continued to maneuver away from the corvettes firing all the way. The corvettes pursued determined to bring down the Imperial ship once and for all.

"Sir, ATLAS is flagging about a dozen magnetic anomalies and ion trails bearing 046. They're right next to us." Reported his Sensor Officer quietly.

Charles frowned. He should have known.

"Helm, maintain course for now. We don't want to alert them that we are on to them. Gunnery keep up the fire on those corvettes."

"Aye sir." Came the unified response.

Charles turned his attention back to his command displays. The security squadron, slow as they were, should be here any second. Their 3 Arquitens Class Command Cruisers and 2 CR90 Corvettes would be instrumental in shielding the convoy. He made his decision.

"Turn hard up and to port, we are pushing the visible taskforce." Said Charles.

The Stryker accelerated up and hard to port pushing toward the visible pirate taskforce.

Somewhere nearby a dozen stealth fighters watched her go. He wondered what they were up to.

He suspected he would find out soon enough.
