Podrace Drive Like You Stole It! [Darkwire]

The contract at its most basic principle was simple enough: steal from rich assholes with enough fanfare to attract attention and scatter to the wind so they couldn't follow any leads. For some, this was to deal a blow to the top by striking at the most affluent sector on the planet. To others, it was just another payday to cash in on, thriving off of the chaos. Whatever the case may be, numerous Shadowrunners had gotten together to coordinate a fire-sale none of the Corpos were expecting, and everything would be free.

Cassus had traveled across the galaxy, through an entirely non-metaphorical literal hell, in a week. He'd been in the beating heart of the CIS government chambers, the depths of the Sith Empire's penitentiaries, and to all "Seven Corners" of Denon. It seemed as if he had been in every bad place a person could go. So it felt "wrong" to be in District 19. In fact, everything about the "Upcity" felt like a different planet. It was still rank with the stench of Denon, no doubt; it was just drenched with so much rich nonsense its residents had become nose blind to it all. He wasn't so easily persuaded, and he didn't imagine his colleagues were either. Cassus checked his Chrono sitting on his speeder bike, watching over a pair of empty seats.

There would be no security coming today; Darkwire slicers had made sure that the security echelon for Upcity would be on patrol out of reach of their target zones. It was going to be easy money, just get out fast in as many directions as possible before anyone had any idea what was going on, and by then it would be too late.

An explosion shook the ground, and two Shadowrunners came running out of the Museum with a haul in tow. They tossed a heavy chest into the hover sled coupled to his Speederbike, and after a moment to ensure it was secured, Cassus blasted off into the streets. Likewise, the other bikers had their own - smaller - hauls and took off just behind him. Other explosions blasted off in the distance. A large-scale, coordinated, and most importantly, random string of robberies was taking place all across this affluent section of Denon.

But almost immediately, despite all their preparations, sirens blared overhead.

"Feth, CorpSec!" Cassus yelled as he looked behind him to see three descending gunships with that red and black emblazoned crest. Who spilled? The thought ran through his head as he put his speeder bike into high gear.

What's going on? Who tipped off CorpSec!? It doesn't matter, time to roll out! After writing a post, hit the roll dice button for a 1d6 to see how it will affect your next post:
  1. "Hands up!" The worst happens, you crash/get captured/whatever the worst possible scenario for you is! (Two strikes, you're out)
  2. "Pull over now!" CorpSec is gaining on you! Subtract 1 from your next roll and use the new result, even if it's a 1 or a 6.
  3. "They're after me!" Interact with another PC runner that isn't in your choice of getaway vehicle. Maybe they can help you out!
  4. "Wait, they're after you?" Interact with another PC runner that isn't in your choice of getaway vehicle. Maybe you can help them out?
  5. "This should lose them!" You're getting away, just a little father! Add 1 to your next roll and use the new result.
  6. "Phew, that was a close one." You get away and to a safe house. CorpSec can't touch you! (Two needed to get to a safe house)
If you are CorpSec, you have the following adjustments:
  1. "Officer down!" The worst happens, you crash/get hurt/get pulled away on another call/whatever the worst possible scenario for you is! (Two strikes, you're out)
  2. "They're getting away!" A new obstacle appears for you! Your target can add 1 to their next roll and use the new result.
  3. "You won't get away with this!" Interact with your target or another PC runner nearby.
  4. "Did you grab the donuts?" Interact with another PC cop that isn't in your patrol vehicle.
  5. "Requesting backup!" District Command is sending reinforcements! Your target must subtract a 1 from their next roll and use the new result, even if it's a 1 or a 6.
  6. "Stop right there, criminal scum!" You've thrown a new wrench into the works! All PC runners must subtract a 1 from their next roll and use the new result, even if it's a 1 or a 6.

HOTFIXES:
  • 1.1: In light of the unexpectedly high number of 6s and 1s in the first round, a new condition to escape or be captured has been added. In order to escape, you need a total of two 6s. To be captured, you will also need two 1s.
  • 1.2: Added Table to keep track of Round Effects. Green is Darkwire, Red is CorpSec. As more players enter, more lines will be added.
  • 1.3: Clarifying that CorpSec negative modifiers only apply once, so that they can't gang up on a single racer. Other sources of negative modifiers not from CorpSec apply as normal. So you can have a maximum -1 from any number of CorpSec sources, and a -1 from rolling a 2 in the previous round. Ergo, the maximum negative modifier is -2.
PATCH 2.0

THE CHASE HAS BEEN LONG, AND NOW THINGS ARE LOOKING DESPERATE. IT'S DO OR DIE!

STARTING ON ROUND 5 AND ONWARD, ANY ROLL OF 2 OR 5 IS NOW INCREASED TO -2/+2 RESPECTIVELY, AND ANY ROLL OF 3 OR 4 NOW CORRESPONDS TO -1/+1 RESPECTIVELY. ALL ROLLS SHALL LEAD TO PRIZES OR PRISON.

GOOD LUCK!

Peyton was down for this. She knew a few tricks of a few trades and well, high end thieving wasn't starting a war. Maybe some of the Darkwire could be taught. It was fine. She could do some stealing, and well, she was a bit older than most here, a bit more around the path of war. She could outrun some simple Corporate Security forces. Hell, she'd been chased by TIEs and Imperial hitsquads.

Not to mention had been there to throw whales at people.

But taking the credits and a few pieces of data, using her not-so-patented data stealing tools, the blonde was already off and running. She had an idea, but the trick was to get far enough away. That meant running. Hoisting the messenger bag over her shoulder, the Blubreen hybrid had her modified jacket that would keep a good amount of moisture in. And that was going to be useful.

For her, it was just luck that her falsified documents lasted as long as they did. But on the exit? Well, it seemed the system recycled after her strike. A quick swing with her baton to a Corpo's knee took him down and she was out and running. She hit the alley and saw at least one escape. Onto the dumpster, and a jump to the fire escapes. At least these were clean… Cleaner.

"Oh, my gods! It so beautiful, can I try it on?" The blue haired girl said to the man in the regal looking suit. She had been eyeing up a gemstone, blue in colour and shaped into heart on a white gold chain. "My friends will love it" she laughed.

"Young lady, you could not afford this, now please leave before i call security." The salesman sneered at her dismissively.

"..Who the hells? He doesn't know we are broke! He is judging us!.."

"you know its not nice to judge people on their appearance, that's how people get hurt." she looked at him, a glint of anger in her eyes.

"...its on your hip, use it on him now!"
"shhh! not yet" she whispered

The server heard her and was now on his guard, this was atarting to get to the point of no return. "Leave..
NOW!"
he said sternly. Oh well, she thought to herself, we could have walked out of here with it round our neck. She reached to her hip and in a single move pulled out her pistol and shot him in the chest. He dropped to the floor and hit a button, activating the alarm. Bells started ringing as Hex picked up the beautiful blue necklace and put it around her next.

"..time for us to leave.."
"..you're done, you cant get away from here.."
"we talked about this, there is a plan!"
she said as she rolled a party popper towards the wall of the staff area, it exploded with a bang, blowing chunks out of the wall an opening the room up to the drop below, hundreds of metres down to levels beneath.

She kneeled down next to the seller and spoke to him "Really sorry about this, you should have just let.....oh, you're dead, er, ciao?" she laughed, her eyes turning pink as the excitement and carnage her explosives had caused took her. She stood on the edge of the abyss just as Corpsec burst through the door and with their guns drawn, shouting demands that Hex barelt heard over the wind. She flipped them the corpsec salute and dropped backwards into the abyss, dropping nearly twenty metres before landing with a click on her repulsor board.

Hex overbalanced slightly due to her momentum causing her board to surge forward and down. It took a few seconds for her to regain her balance. Sparks flew as her board skimmed the roof of a speeder truck and she was off at high speed between the buildings.

Easy credits.

It was never just that. Someone always wanted someone else to pay with their time, their skills, or their life. Today it was possible to be all three. Didn't matter. Someone was paying out of their mouth for this job, and the only details he had were to wait for the sirens to start.

Then the chase would start.

It didn't make him happy to wait. Gave the targets to much time to prepare. To make sure they had a way out. But in another way it also made them confident. Made them think they had the upper hand. Made them arrogant.

Easier to trip up.

Gray armor sat atop a high rise, waiting for the signal. The massive form messing with the gauntlet computer and receiving the files on the 'scum' that whoever was paying figured would be up to no good today. Made it easier to work but also didn't give him much beyond a face and some batha spit information. Stuff he could have learned by stalking them had he got here sooner.

The faint sound of a siren and explosions in the distance caught the sensors in his helmet, blue eyes behind the visor scanning the HUD to get a direction on the source.

Two words.

Two words described the kind of day he was having.

"Feth, CorpSec!"

Was that actually three words instead of two? CorpSec was an abbreviation after all. Or was that an acronym?

Human languages had very confusing rules that way.

Any road, the Squib's head just poked up over the dash as a high-pitched voice could be heard chirping "Wait, what?" Right as all hell broke loose. So, there he is, asking questions and there's everyone else taking off like it's the Iridona 500.

"Fflarbl-ffllym!" the diminutive Squib swore in his native tongue. Apologies to the readers at home for the course language. It's been one of those days.

Should he have been a tad more careful about the job ad he'd answered? Maybe.

Should he have been suspicious that no one had asked him for tax information, withholding, or even if he had a license? Probably.

Did he have any idea what was actually going on? To be completely honest, he was just a Squib short on quid for this month's bills. And there was nothing worse than a Squib short on quid.

The amber-colored fuzzball was at the controls of one of his better dump trucks. You know, impress the new boss. It wasn't exactly white glove clean, but he'd buffed out the rust and the paint was still in somewhat decent-ish shape. Plus, the advert hadn't really said just how much they were looking to haul. Just that they were looking to haul a lot. And Under Foot could haul a lot in one of these.

In retrospect, maybe a garbage hauler hadn't been the best selection for a garbyll-gorram getaway vehicle! Which, it would have been super helpful had he known that it was going to be a getaway vehicle.

He was totally writing this up for his review of this job on TransparisteelDoor.holo later.

Grabbing hold of the gear shift, the Squib threw the garbage hauler into gear. Or, rather, wrestled with the gear box. Because, of course, now, of all times, it decided to seize up on him. A horrendous grind-crunch sound reverberated from the engines, as the Squid forced the repulsorlift into gear and then put the pedal to the metal.

"Come on, come on, it's easy. Just dump it all into the bag!" Daiya goaded the store manager, one of her Combo Breakers pointed at the Firrerreo woman in charge. Her eyes shifted toward the other employees, whom she'd corralled behind the counter to keep an easy eye on them. The racks of high-end makeup had been raided in the range of her skin tone, leaving the teen an easy opening to keep her other blaster trained on the rest of the antics in the store. So far this job had been too easy, she almost didn't need to bother.

Upcity store employees were much more compliant than those in Seven Corners.

Greedy eyes surveyed other nearby racks, none of which held the young shadowrunner's normal brand. She didn't enjoy thinking about Heartbeat House as a cheap cosmetics company, but it was hard to ignore the reality when faced with all the high-end names around her like Thermalux and Quaint Gardens. Ideas rolled in her head, wondering how much she could get for the items in Seven Corners, even if she had to find a fence at the Freeport Club again; with every container of makeup dropped into her bag, Daiya felt her eyes turn another shade of green.

An urgent sensation pulled at her, drawing her arm over to the employee she hadn't noticed standing against the desk, a defiant look on her face. The young shadowrunner reached close to the manager, who shrieked back in fear at the approaching blaster, and grabbed her loaded satchel from the woman. Her eyes never left the gutsy employee, even as she zipped up her satchel and slung it back over her shoulder. "You're gonna regret that..."

She backed up quickly toward the door threshold, her blasters swiveling over the small crowd huddled behind the counters. The teen clicked her tongue, shaking the head of tied-up hair at them, "I'm never shopping here again. The service fething sucks!"

Then she fired her blaster, the one loaded with the oddly-described chthonic embrace that had been described in the manual. Instead of a blaster bolt emerging, a strange energy emanated from the gun, tipping shelves back from the shockwave, which shattering the remaining goods onto the floors and pinned the store's employees to the ground by a sudden weight equaling their own. The effect wouldn't last that long, just enough time for her getaway and a little more. Daiya gave a little squeak of joy, then finally turned around to dash out the doors and into the streets of the Upcity.

The tie came out of her hair, and she shoved the light-diffracting mask and blasters in her bag, transforming back again into herself on the run. She waved frantically at the nearby traffic zipping past in the air, eventually summoning a taxi speeder who pulled over. The teen stopped barely short of tumbling in, her palms planted face-down on the hull of the craft and her lungs gasping for air. "There was..." she pointed back in the direction of the store, "this crazy chick in there. I gotta get outta here!"

Nodding, the driver didn't even ask where she was going, they took off just as soon as Daiya was in. Euphoria bubbled out of her in teary laughs, glancing back at the speeders behind her, watching the target of her heavy shoplifting vanish into the larger backdrop of the Upcity. Grinning, she finally sat back against the cushion of her seat, enjoying the adrenaline rush of her day's work.

Until the sirens began.

Daiya tried to ignore them at first, but when traffic began parting behind them for the red-and-black marked vehicles, their sirens had to compete with the louder pounding of her heart. The teen withdrew her blaster again, leaning quickly over into the front seat to point it at the driver. Her ominous words mirrored her own situation as she told the man, "Drive like your life depends on it."

Hers certainly did.

Saija Kwann returns to the fold once again after teaming up with her Bounty Hunter allies in the bush wars flaring up in Wild Space...

I need to get away from the Mando drama and all the fighting. Kronn didn't seem to realize that fighting his glorious Iron Revolution or whatever is costing everybody a lot. I'm not complaining, but I do have finances to maintain, creditors to pay off and to make the occasional bribe.

After the last major financial hack, CorpSec brought in some upgrades to the banking sector, but District 19 was still using the same security protocols. After collaborating with a few other Darkwire contacts on the holonet, we hacked the security algorithms and rerouted emergency response away from our chosen targets. Mine was a network trafficking hub which had data records on thousands of users; the information was worth an obscene amount of credits to the right buyer. However, this couldn't be done from behind the screen over the net. What we needed to steal required physical access at the hard-line.

All of this was supposed to go off without a hitch, but now I'm making a break from a squad of CorpSec security troopers. The getaway speeder is nowhere to be found. Something tells me we've been double-crossed. I had double checked the subroutines and field deployments myself. One or two units at the most were scheduled to be dispatched blocks away from here. But now there's alot more than that, like a school of Quagga snipping at my head tails as I make flight on foot for now, seeking the nearest and fastest escape...

It was stupidly easy to disguise herself as a rich lady. It was easier to fly through the jewel store and pick up any precious metal that caught her eye, thrown into her shopping bag. She wouldn’t pay though.

Having already mapped out a getaway, Samnai adjusts her sunglasses and walks out the front door—an employee slumps against the wall unconscious, long knocked out. Outside, she walks to the parking lot where her planned car is sitting, just in time for sirens to blare out. The nonchalant woman checks again for anything indicating identification—seeing nothing she climbs into the car. It’s a grey taxi, boring and very common in the streets of Denon. Perfect to hide in plain sight.

Unfortunately for her, clamouring cars tail her own as soon as she speeds out of the driveway; she speeds up the vehicle and into the rain.

Batch was no stranger to a stink, but these Corpo's put any two-week-old raw fish to shame. Swiping the files on the latest anti-slicer tech had been a pleasure. Tucked away in his armorweave shirt, he saw the suits running toward him down the alley. Way too slow. Helmet on, visor up he smiled with a mouth of silver teeth, pulling the black shield down and pulling off to angry yells.

Honking a loud speeder horn to draw half the street's attention, behind him he left a display showing a rich corporate a'hole taking bribes, and visiting their mistress. Guy deserved it, owed him one for doing his boy Crypto dirty. Speeding off into the dust, the hoverbike he rode hummed like it was tuned up because it was. The Aerochaser speeder was popular with outlaws because it could be easily modified, spending plenty of days in the shop with the guys fixing it up for runs just like this. Single seater, smooth black finish, and power under the hood that made her purr.

Behind what he left qualified as deserving as a chase! Leaving behind an angry suit who was flailing, trying to turn off the holodisplay while a growing crowd watched. The last thing he saw was a wife slapping the cheating liar across the face. Small bit of justice. Corpo goons wouldn't be far behind, over his shoulder he saw them grabbing their hoverbikes. There was a blaster on Batch's hip but he'd not need it, the gang signs all over his face were a history of losing these guys and marking a notch to tell.

Far away, hidden deep in the Twilight Belt on Denon, Hacks sat at her computer station. A dozen screens illuminated her in the darkness of the cheap motel. The walls were damp from a recent acidic rainfall. The smell of stimcaf warmed her senses, inviting her to take another sip as she studied the code streaming across her vision. The speeder was ready. A CAD garbage truck that served the Upcity, it was surprisingly clean, borderline luxurious, for something that transported waste daily.

The truck had been fitted out with holoprojectors inside the cabin as well as a chip she had slotted into the speeders terminal that gave her remote access to its driving functionality. Then she walked back to her motel, made herself a quick stimcaf and sat down to get to work tracing the shadowrunners. It wasn't hard, Hacks still had access to the clients and contracts on the Darkwire network, then it was a matter of slicing into CorpSec feeds and monitoring chatter until something likely came up. A heist in Upcity. She checked the network, locating keywords that showed her a correlating contract.

Her fingers danced across her keypad, twenty at a time. Far away, engines started. The holoprojector booted up then flickered to life. Suddenly a lifelike human baby was at the wheel, hijacking the audiosystems to play noises of the toddler giggling and laughing at its own chaotic existence. Tiny hands slapped the wheel and then begun to tug at it as Hacks typed commands. It was off, flying high out of the Twilight Belt and towards the Upcity.

Soon after a great lumbering truck merged into traffic. Plates sparked and crumpled as speeders were forced off the airlane. It slammed against CorpSec cruisers, forcing them out of its way as it sped towards the escaping thieves. In the front seat stood a baby in a diaper, giggling and laughing as its tiny hands gripped the steering wheel. A pacifier hanging from its mouth, drool dripping down the tiny toddlers chin. The truck was otherwise empty bar this strange child steering the vehicle. What couldn't be seen to outside viewers were the hologram projectors inside the cabin.

District 19, or upcity was always a sight to behold. Rivaling and often even surpassing some of the most imposing neighborhoods in the galactic capital. Currently up in one of the massive highrises, having finalized the transactions of a lowly bounty he’d just caught. Sadly they weren't Darkwire, a group that still remained quite elusive to Cyran. Looking out on the balcony of the highrise at the seemingly endless urban sprawl before him something new caught his attention.

Radio chatter talks about needing emergency responses for corpsec that some sort of heist was underway and they needed to catch the perpetrators. Cyran thought that it had to be darkwire, only they would be so bold as to pull such a stunt here.

He needed to get down there, and fast, looking back into the building he frowned under his visored mask. It would be too long to take a lift he needed to be quicker. Than darring idea came to him. Getting up onto the railing of the balcony standing on it he looked down, almost experiencing vertigo. His heart racing and the thrill seeking adrenaline junky inside of him taking over. Grinning to himself he pressed in a few controls on his vambrace for his rescue before finally leaping off the tall building.

Quickly air rushed past him as he found himself skydiving down towards the city below at a rapid pace. He needed to remember to start aerial training for his apprentice later so that they can pull off stuff like this. Spreading his limbs out to slow and control his decet some there was a sudden flash from below. His craft comes to meet him from below. Before it quickly whizzed past him and soon followed him back down. It was an old Sky Striker 5000. He maneuvered his body as it caught up to him before he connected his feet magnetically to the frame. With a fast yet steady maneuver he slowed his fall some and reported himself so he wasn’t falling at such breakneck speeds. The G force makes the blood rush from his head to his legs. Making him a little dizzy for only a moment as he eased himself to brace for it and not black out midair.

Looking down below with his scanners he caught sight of some of the chaos. A large garbage truck swerving into traffic below and running off some corpsec cruisers. Surely that had to be some sort of diversion for the main action. Nonetheless Cyran should check it out. As he rushed in with his repulsor craft he noticed that went the corpsec cruisers got close they all seemed to hesitate greatly. Before he heard some of his intercepted chatter… It was a baby!

“Oh hell nah” Cyran muttered to himself, though it meant it couldn’t be darkwire and some freak accident Cyran felt like he needed to act and see if he couldn’t save the endangered child from his flying vantage point. Descending down close to the swerving truck Cyran managed to get up close to the side of it and look in. Yes, there was indeed an infant at the wheel. He would get himself in the tuck to save the toddler and stop the truck. Flying next to it on his craft on the passenger side. Before he could make a proper jump from his sky slicer to the door the truck swerved once more to the side and knocked into Cyran and his craft. Knocking him off his board. In a frantic maneuver managed to grab onto the side of the truck outside the door. Gasping for air as he felt like one slip up and he could’ve been a goner. He better at least get a hero of the month award for this…

"Freeze, sleemo!" -- a CorpSec thug shoves a blaster in my face as I round a corner. His buddies do the same; I'm completely surrounded

"Fleekin' Fark."
-- gets cuffed, taken to a squad vehicle, then I'm scanned and searched
they find my blaster, assorted gear, and my hackbox along with a datacard

EG4WkEt.jpg

"What's this?" -- one of them gruffly interrogates me, trying to act all intimidating

sneers with contempt -- "That's way above your pay grade. Sergeant."

"Then maybe you don't need it." -- drops the data card on the ground, cocks his blaster pistol like he's going to shoot it

"Cute. Go ahead. Wait until your Commander finds out you destroyed critical evidence. He'll love that."

my bluff works...now he shoves my hackbox at me
-- "What's the code to unlock this?"

rolls my eyes -- "Still above your pay grade."

"I can work a karkin' computer!"

"And I'm in binders! I have to be the one to type the passcode. It's biometrically locked to my fingerprints and DNA."

This is a complete lie, but it's a good idea now that I think about it...

The CorpSec thugs release my handcuffs, but still have blasters pointed at me -- I'm in a difficult spot and there's only one way out of this

"I'm going to need the datacard."
-- arms the self-destruct mechanism --
takes the datacard from the goon; grabs his arm and pulls him off balance -- shoves him into his cohorts as I sprint for cover...

As Hex left the scene on her Dancer board she leaned into a turn and grabbed the side of her board, startled people on the gantry watched her sail past then accelerate in the new direction. Hex hadn't exactly decided where she was going yet, but she needed to escape. Ahead she saw a taxi that seemed to be driving erratically, she knew other darkwire were heisting nearby, so it was worth a look. She was pleasantly suprised when she saw a flash of coloured hair that she recognised. She pulled up beside the taxi and grabbed the window frame.

"Hey Daiya! Looking good, but you really need some music on." she leaned in across the teens lap and fiddled with the passenger control and put some music on at full volume. "perfect"

As she leaned she spotted some high end makeup packaging in Daiya's bag, including the tip of a fuschia coloured lipstick.

"...take it, she won't notice one little lip stick.."
Hex considered her options she could steal it, take that chance, but Daiya had been nice to her, why risk a possible friendship? She shook her head at her friend's suggestion as she pulled back to the window. Skimming along backwards whilst holding on to the window.

"so is that all makeup then? You hit a makeup shop" she grinned.

Daiya: "Of course it's fething makeup! It'd take me, like, five jobs just to earn enough to breath on one of these, they're worth ten times their weight in credits. Try catching some boy think this up."

"awesome thinking, pretty decent score in that little bag, you wouldn't want to fix a girl up with a coat of hot pink lipstick would you? It's totally my colour" she smiled and pouted her lips, leaning into the car whilst carefully balancing on her board.

Daiya: "I've never done that before, feth yeah!"

The pretty girl leaned over with the fuscia stick and started applying it to Hex, just as the music changed. "oh..tune!" she smiled between applications.

It was then that a bright light hit the car, dazzling Hez, a loud voice came out of the light demanding they pull over or be fired up, it was a Corpsec Gunship and it was chasing them. The two paused applying makeup and within moments Hex had something on her shoulder. Her hips swayed to the beat of the music as she locked on and appeared to wait for something.

The beat in the music dropped "Face down, ass up, that's the way we like to….." The last word was drowned out by the back blast of her launcher as a guided missile streaked towards gunship, the car swerved with the driver flinching ,but he quickly regained his composure as the gunship was blown apart in a huge fireball. "BOOM BABY!" Hex cackled.

She looked back into the car at Daiya "now where were we?"

Previous Roll: 1 "Hands up!" The worst happens!

Moving between traffic at a smooth pace, drifting steadily. Batch knew the streets, the people, and where to go. Not his favorite side of Denon, he still did business here. Corpos were gaining, so he adjusted the thrust to give it more burn. Getting a few blaster shots his way, they missed the first, the final one hit one of his maneuvering thruster ports. Gritting his metal teeth when he looked up, ahead was a massive traffic jam with a truck at the front Hacks Hacks .

His ride wobbled from the damage, so he pulled up and ran along the side of a building's wall, to dodge queued traffic rather than try to weave on a damaged bike. Behind him the Corpo goons looked like they were good, all three of them managed to stay with the chase. His hand gripped the thrust, getting serious. Below amazed people looked up as four hoverbikes raced across the side of a highrise building, zipping dots passing them by across an otherwise pristine silver glow from its walls.

Saija Kwann Saija Kwann Flying food.

Just as Batch was coming down off the wall, the chase drifted around a bend. Sending dust, loose trash, and expensive discarded tech rolling away. Saija might look up to see four hoverbikes humming past her altercation. The explosion went off beside Batch, just missing his speeder. It sent him right through a street cafe, upending tables, food flying behind, and eating utensils scattered. Angry rich corpos with their amused servants were shouting obscenities behind him, while wet noodles decorated a nearby socialite out walking their latest overpriced model holodog. Wasting food was a stain on his soul and the speeder almost gave up, now twice damaged.

Slowed, his three chasing Corpos were right beside him, one reached to grab him off the side of the bike and….

"Your steak sir..."

A ginger haired waiter said to the corporate official in front of him, who didn't even bother to say thanks for delivering his meal to the table. Unknown to him, as he tucked into his fancy dinner the teen had quickly snapped a hand into his suit pocket and took out his wallet without a hitch. Stuffing into his stolen waiter outfit he gave the wealthy CEOs a smile before wondering off to his next target. Throughout the night he had been collecting the credits of almost everyone at the Gala, now there was only big ticket draw he needed to obtain.

The host was sitting at a long table towards the front, busy chatting away to his equally as wealthy friends who seemed to think they were the most important people in the room. Rolling his eyes slightly, he recomposed himself and went over in the most professional manner he could muster "May I take those plates off you?" he asked politely, something which was replied with a nonchalant wave of the hand to go ahead. Nodding once, he grabbed hold of his plate and "accidently" knocked a spoon to the floor.

"My apologies sir..."

With the plate in hand he knelt down and suddenly shot a hand to his trouser pocket, a smirk crossing his lips as he placed it with the rest of them in his deep pocket. What he didn't know was the durable rubber string that was attached to the hosts suit. Cartri chuckled to himself smugly as he started to slowly walk to the exit, but it was soon clear it wasn't going to be easy as that. Soon enough, the host was still oblivious was almost pulled over the top of the table from being tugged unexpectedly.

Cartri's eyes widened slightly as he looked behind him, noticing that the man had used the old fashioned trap of pickpockets "Get him! pickpocket gu-!" was the only thing he could shout before the wallet was slung back into his face by Cartri who made a break for the door, along with five or so guards who were quick to pursue him.

Stumbling into the busy streets of Denon he kicked his legs and frantically searched for a getaway of some kind. Even though he wasn't able to drive, bribery would give anyone a reason to earn a bit of case. Right ahead, he spotted a pizza delivery hover speeder with the delivery guy still in. He seemed to be nodding his head to some music as he took a break from his job. Without hesitation Cartri opened the door to the passenger seat and dumped a pile of credits onto his lap.

"Quick dude! get me out of here. In the mean time I'll buy whatever you have left in here!" He urged the driver as he turned and reached over to grab a plain pizza box for himself, wasting no time to open it up and take a bite out of a big slice.

"O-okay! you better give me a raise if we get out of this!" The driver said frantically before turning up the music in his head phones and pressing down hard on the accelerator, looking to leave the guards and possibly the authorities in his wake.

The garbage hauler rocked from side to side.

Trash cans went flying through the air, as the cumbersome landspeeder took off and took a couple of garbage receptacles, a stop sign, and a hot dog cart with it as the Squib struggled to get the vehicle on the road and on the move.

The same crunch-grind sound reverberated through the engine casing, as the furry alien shifted into second and then third. This garbage hauler only had four on the floor, but it had a ton of torque behind those repulsorlifts and the Squib was trying to eek every last ounce of power out of the engines.

Also, to the owner of the '67 SoroSuub Flash Speeder... A) I'm sorry; and, B) Squib Reclamation has a side mirror in stock that'll totally replace the one we just knocked off. And that sideswipe damage? That'll buff right out...

His insurance premiums were going to be through the roof if he got caught.

What block was he even on?

Spinning the wheel, the garbage hauler took a sudden, wide left amid a flurry of blaring horns and angry human noises. Did that say Thirthieth? And hadn't he been on Freeks? So that meant there ought to be a ramp onto the Urban Crosstown Throughway coming up.

Sliding the garbage hauler through Denon's urban sprawl, the Squib pitched the landspeeder into a lumbering, corkscrew turn. The chassis was shuddering as the furball had to slow into the tight turn that spiraled into a corridor through the lower sections of the ecumenopolis.

Going above town was a sure fire recipe for CorpSec to rain down from above. But through the lower levels? It was a risk, but with his insurance premiums on the line, a Squib knew that desperate times called for desperate measures!

Note: -1 modifier from CorpSec roll. Roll for this post is a 5 for the next round.

Round 2 Post, -1 from CorpSec
Previous Roll:
6 | "Phew, that was a close one!"

Cassus blasted through Upcity, the other bikers splitting off. Two of the three Gunships started to peel off to follow them. He had other ideas, however. Though he hadn't come prepared for this level of heat, he was by no means unarmed. In fact, he was armed highly illegally in most civilized systems. At least technically.

Tail whipping his speeder to drift into an alley, Cassus lined up a shot with his Darkwire Disruptor and let loose two calculated shots. The first struck the center of the gunship view screen, and immediately a hole began to expand where it impacted, its molecular bonds disintegrating on impact. It wouldn't consume the whole ship, of course, there wasn't nearly enough tibanna gas for that... but it did exactly what he wanted: create an opening.

The second shot sailed a bit left of the first and immediately struck the pilot. A cloud of particle dust flurries around their suddenly naked and dehaired body, the forceful impact and turbulent energies locking up their muscles in a stun blast. Unable to correct course as their co-pilot scrambled to figure out what the kark just happened, the Gunship quickly nose-dived into the side of a building as Cassus powered away from the scene.

Cassus figured he'd be scot-free, but the sound of more sirens nearby let him know he wasn't out of this yet...

Round 1: [1] Fark!
Round 2: [6] Thank the Force for that one!
Round 3: [5 = at the bottom of this post, roll with a +1 modifier]

----------------

looks up; sees the collateral damage -- takes cover as debris and the remnants of fine dining rain down from above

"Farkin' Chit." -- shakes my head incredulously; I wasn't expecting the self-destruct charge to be THAT powerful

clbUTPs.png

Scanning the immediate area, I spot a couple of police speeders -- in the confusion, I jump on one of them and take off. Wow, this thing has some real kick. I haven't ridden one of these in a while; I'm always riding those smelly Orbaks because of Kronn and his desert Mando clan not wanting to piss off the tribal people and the sand sharks back on Smarteel.

REEEEEEEEE!!!!! -- the repulsorlift engines shriek loudly as I go flying, making a clean getaway for now...

-- As I leave the goon squad behind, I decide to make things a little harder for them... -- gets on the commlink --

"Dispatch, Unit 166 reporting...code 417-Beta...Code 417-Beta at environmental control sector. Possible terrorist activity."

I call in the police code for a bomb threat at a place that is both far away from our planned assault (as per the original plan) and critical enough to pull away as many of the CorpSec goons as I can. Hopefully that will buy our people some time.

-- skims between buildings just below rooftop level, periscoping my head over the edge trying to get a visual fix on anyone from Darkwire --
-- There! I spot one of our guys ( Batch Batch ) fending off three Corpo speeders! He needs help!
-- I go tearing off after them, intent on sneaking up on them from behind...

ooc note: When I did the dice thing, I added the 1 (per the table above) in the dice rolling app so the number should be correct as printed in the box

The alert came across his HUD, several instances of damages against the people contracting his services. All of them lighting up in successive order against the times they occurred. One even had the attention of a corporate gunship. A raised brow behind the helmet was accompanied by little else.

A blip appeared under the local corpo line, garnering his attention for the moment as he blinked and let the audio roll into his ears.

"We need assistance with this-"

"Is it one of them from the list?"

"Uh. Unknown. But we-"

"I don't care. Unless it's one of those faces don't bother me again or I'm headed off world."

"You'll forfeit the-"

"If I cared this wouldn't be a side job. And it gets the same treatment as any side job I take. Confirmation before you contact me again." He cut the line off before they could reply and checked his wrist computer again.
