RefugeRespite

The First Assembly has spoken.

Refuge is overcrowded, its halls and shelters pressed thin beneath the weight of incoming families, freed captives, and displaced settlers seeking protection beneath the Farworlds Alliance banner.

Now, words must become work.

Construction crews, relief workers, pilots, medics, scouts, security teams, and volunteers have gathered to raise the first new housing zone. Prefab shelters wait in cargo stacks. Water cyclers hum beside half-built foundations. Heavy machinery carves roads through dust and stone while refugees watch from the edge of the worksite, hoping this place may become more than temporary safety.

But the frontier is never quiet.

Supplies are limited. Routes are dangerous. Not everyone trusts the Alliance yet. And where desperate people gather, trouble is rarely far behind…

WAYS TO JOIN
There is work for any willing hand.

Some move toward the rising skeletons of new homes, where prefab walls wait in cargo stacks and cranes groan above the dust. Others gather near the green-marked plots, preparing soil beds, saplings, hydroponic starters, and shade trees meant to soften the settlement before it becomes only metal and stone.

Closer to the temporary shelters, refugees wait with folded blankets, ration tins, nervous children, and names still being written into Alliance records. Along the roads and ridgelines, patrols keep watch for raiders, slavers, wildlife, theft, sabotage, or anything else drawn by the noise of construction.

No one is required to take a single path. Build, guard, tend, haul, plant, argue, comfort, complicate, or simply find a place in the dust where your character belongs.

Raise Homes

Build prefab shelters, foundations, roads, landing zones, power lines, and shared spaces.

Green Spaces

Prepare garden beds, planters, saplings, hydroponic starters, and quiet places beside the homes.

Aid Lines

Hand out water, food, medicine, blankets, tools, and help families settle into the camp.

Supply Work

Unload cargo, guide cranes, repair equipment, direct pilots, or move materials across the site.

Keep Watch

Patrol the roads, guard the workers, screen arrivals, and watch for trouble on the horizon.

Complications

Breakdowns, missing supplies, local tensions, frightened refugees, hidden hazards, or frontier trouble.

Laphisto

High Commander of the Lilaste Order
Laphisto stood in the open doorway of the LAHT gunship, the wind tugging at his hair as the transport descended toward the growing settlement below. For this mission, if it could even be called a mission, he had left his helmet aboard the carrier. There would be no battle here. No enemy fortress to assault. No Sith to hunt. Just people trying to build a life for themselves on the frontier.

Following the vote within the First Assembly, Laphisto had made a promise to the Farworlds Alliance. In truth, he had made the promise to himself as much as anyone else. The Lilaste Order had spent years fighting wars, evacuating worlds, and carrying refugees from one crisis to the next. It was easy to become trapped in a cycle of destruction. Building something lasting was far rarer.

One hundred and forty-four soldiers accompanied him, an entire company drawn from the Lilaste Order's ranks. Four LAHT gunships swept through the sky in formation while four modified AT-AE walkers descended toward the surface below. Their primary weapon systems had been removed entirely. Where massive cannons once sat now stood reinforced construction cranes capable of lifting prefab housing sections, support beams, power relays, and other heavy infrastructure.

As the gunships settled onto the landing zone, ramps dropped and soldiers immediately moved into action. Engineers established construction zones while logistics personnel organized supply manifests and designated storage areas. Equipment was unloaded with practiced efficiency, every soldier already knowing their role before their boots touched the ground.

The walkers moved first. Massive feet pressed into the dirt as construction crews guided them toward foundation sites. Their crane assemblies rotated overhead while survey teams marked future roads, utility corridors, and housing districts. It was an unusual sight. Machines designed for war now prepared to build homes.

Above them, the gunships would not remain idle for long. Once the walkers and personnel had been deployed, the transports would return to orbit where an Air'mar-class Assault Carrier waited overhead. The vessel's fabrication facilities had been redirected from military production toward civilian needs. Fabricators normally tasked with producing replacement starfighter components, ammunition, and battlefield equipment were now manufacturing structural supports, environmental systems, habitation modules, and construction materials. Every trip planetside would bring another load of supplies.

Security remained necessary. Four squads had already been assigned to perimeter patrols surrounding the construction zone. They moved through nearby ridgelines and along approach routes, maintaining overlapping fields of observation around the growing settlement. Two sniper teams occupied elevated positions overlooking the area, providing overwatch while feeding reconnaissance data back to the patrol network. The frontier was rarely as peaceful as it appeared.

The remainder of the company dispersed throughout the worksite. Some joined construction teams, helping move materials and assemble housing sections. Others worked alongside civilians unloading cargo, directing traffic, operating machinery, or establishing supply depots. Several soldiers could already be seen assisting refugee families with moving possessions and locating assigned shelters.

No distinction existed between soldier and laborer today. Everyone worked. Everyone contributed. Everyone built. Reaching up, Laphisto activated his commlink and transmitted across Alliance frequencies.

"Attention Farworlds Alliance personnel. Lilaste Order assets are now operational within the settlement zone. Transportation, engineering support, construction equipment, security forces, and cargo lift capabilities are available upon request. Should any member state require assistance, notify my personnel and we will provide what support we can."

The transmission ended as simply as it began. His gaze drifted across the settlement. Workers moved between half-finished structures. Refugees watched from temporary shelters. Cargo shuttles descended through the atmosphere carrying another wave of supplies.

Alex watched on as bulldozers leveled plots of land for housing. Nearby duracrete mixers stood by to lay the foundations as the transports carrying the prefabricated housing hovered far over head in staggered lines. It wouldn't do to crowd the work area or annoy those below. Once the foundations were down, they'd move in and use their unloading arms to simply lay out the housing into apartment blocks, stacking them according to the captains' whims or various pre-ordered layouts. Elsewhere, three other sites were undergoing a similar transformation from rolling grassland to housing development.

There was actually very little left for Alex to do as all the agreements and had been made and forms completed. So he watched on, 'supervising.' Probably set some of his people on edge, having the big boss looking over their shoulder despite his attempts to appear approachable and down-to-the-planet. But without anything to do and his people at work, he didn't want to be sitting around aboard his ship or zipping off to some far away planet. Things were happening here, he should be here even if it was just for the beginnings of this new alliance.

Laphisto Laphisto came over his earpiece as Alex took a sip of his caf. Taking his time, he swallowed a few more mouthfuls of the hot drink before pushing the reply button on the comm. "This is Director Stern. We could use some roads or paths from the four housing sites connecting them and other points of interest. Don't want civvies getting lost in their new home."

Epo-1, Lushi

"See? Clean air, no cell. Just like I promised."

Loomi led Sevrin into one of the many pop-up greenhouses that had been established. At present the Jedi were preparing greenery to fill void spaces between housing structures. There were many reasons why living arrangements needed plant life, even if many core worlds seem to forego any in favor of maximum efficiency. Mental health was a very important factor to consider.

Sevrin, to make up for his crimes, would be working to assist.

"Now, you're gonna have a lot of work to do today, mister," Loomi told him. "We've got a lot of fresh saplings to prepare for our Agri-Corps today, and that means we need all the hands we can get. I imagine that you'll have no trouble getting a little dirt under your nails, right?"

She scooped up a pot and promptly plopped it into his hands.

"Here you are~"

"Hey you, come over here real quick!" novac called out to his t series tactical droid. Once the droid was at novacs said he handed it one of the 2 datapads he was holding. "notice anything?" he asked, the droid looked at the information for a second before putting on and on its face and shaking its head while a low beep. "I know right? who the hell organized this list, did they even organize it actually. It's a mess, how am i supposed to find anything. If you don't mind could you organize it, that'd be a huge help."

As the droid walk off to go fix the list novac used his comlink to ask kairo "hey, everything good? you where supposed to report about five minutes ago." In response kairo said "my bad, everythings good, was talking to one of the sentinels and lost track of time. sorry about that." Of course he was. Lost track of time, yea sure totally just didn't feel like not reporting in. "eh whatever it's fine, just please report back on time. I'd rather not have to worry about you." novac responded.

He'd hadn't been here long but already had most of his droids working. They where either keeping watch, helping with the plants, building, moving cargo, building, or trying to keep the refugees happy. In total he had brought 372 droids along with him, only a few where currently on watch duty.

He also had a few of his smaller, less dangerous pets to go be with the refugees for a while. His smaller droids that couldn't help with anything else where playing with some of the kids, mostly tag, one of the probe droids flying a little to high to dodge a kids fingers to not get tagged. The two LK war-x's had been stripped of weapons, they where going to be used to haul cargo but a few kids started to pet them and argue amongst themselves. One saying "Aaw it's a big metal puppy" then another going "what? its not a puppy, its a kitty, see its even purring."

Most of his droids had been assigned to cargo and building. Even if the droid was a battle droid they where still being used here, just stripped of weapons, including goliath who..."woah woah hey goliath, I know your big but watch what your doing, try not to destroy the building material please"

I am not normally one to get angry when I see people in need, but the situation here is infuriating. Do not get me wrong, I am not angry at the people, but at the situation itself. The sheer scale of the suffering is overwhelming and the resources we have here are woefully inadequate. This is the fault of no one, but it is a situation that must be rectified. These are days to which I am glad I am not alone, for there are others. I am also appreciative that my position allows me to do something about it.

I had brought enough Shepherd Class Transports, or so I had thought, to handle the logistics of moving refugees and supplies from one camp to another. The sheer magnitude of this shows me how wrong I was. There would be a need for more supplies, and people. So I requisitioned more people and supplies, Halpern responded, telling me he was on the way with the Celestial City Supercarrier to provide support.
