OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Unit Name: Suarbi System Republic Mobile Infantry Corps
  • Affiliation: Rimward Trade League
  • Classification: Mobile Infantry
  • Description: In a break from the traditional role of the Suarbi Republic Security Forces, primarily stationary and defensive, the Mobile Infantry Corps was designed as a professional standing force capable of quick-acting deployments anywhere in the Outer Rim. While not as heavily equipped as their mechanized brethren, the mobile infantry relies primarily on speed and rapid deployment of highly mobile forces to neutralize threats, assisted by their transport vessels and shuttles in an air assault, airborne, and recon-in-force operations.
COMBAT INFORMATION:
Strengths:
  • Combat Hardened: The Outer Rim has been at war for nearly three decades against foes as wide-ranging as the Sith Empires, the One Sith, the Order of the Black Rose, and First Orders, as well as countless more minor skirmishes against warlords, pirates, syndicates, and cultists. That has pitted them against various foes with major doctrinal and tactical differences. This has lent itself most directly with the olders officers and NCOs having a vast reserve of experience and ingenuity to impart to their subordinates. That stiffens the spines of even the newest recruits and passes on unconventional tricks and tactics. They are not easily intimidated or frightened and, being from the Outer Rim, notoriously stubborn and independently-minded, especially when taking orders or suggestions from those they don't know.
  • Citizen Soldier: All Suarbi and League defense forces members are volunteers, well-paid and professional. They know the risks that might be asked of them if needed, but they're not reckless or stupid. If victory is impossible, they aren't going to sacrifice themselves for no good purpose. Instead, they will withdraw and disperse, even moving into a guerilla-style if necessary, before regrouping and reorganizing.
Weaknesses:
  • Fortifications: While they have heavier weaponry and light vehicular and artillery support, they are not equipped with siege equipment or supplies to enact long sieges or assaults on enemy fortifications. They can try and keep them pinned down and harass the supply lines, but it would be challenging, if not impossible, to take a heavily fortified position.
  • Air Superiority: Despite being armed with limited amounts of man-portable anti-air weapon systems and some vehicles with anti-air capabilities, they have little to no air support outside their own shuttles and transports. As a result, their actions and effectiveness are hampered by situations where the enemy has air superiority.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
While the Suarbi System Republic had a pre-existing Naval Defense Force and Army, they realized through their times as part of the Omega Protectorate, Galactic Alliance, and Outer Rim Coalition they needed a new armed forces branch capable of operating in close coordination with orbital assets, both for deployment and active defense against planetary invasion.

Basing it somewhat on the Galactic Alliance Defense Force and drawing on the number of veterans of the First Order Wars, they assembled the Mobile Infantry Corps to work as the primary expeditionary force of the Suarbi Systems Republic and Rimward Trade League. While many galactic governments have marines specializing in ship-based and zero-gravity combat, the League created a hybrid branch that combined the traditional army structure with the mobility of the marine forces. While transported and mobilized by naval vessels, they function as a light combined-arms corps based around infantry and lightly armored support vessels. The idea was developed from the original Rebel Alliance unit and prior Galactic Alliance unit Twilight Company.

The MIC was initially activated shortly after the creation of the Rimward Trade League in recognition of the fact that Suarbi would bear the brunt of the military commitment, especially early on, and that Suarbi needed forces capable of acting beyond the system's borders across a variety of environments. After many years of existing on paper and as an organizational chart, the MIC was finally brought to active duty at the onset of skirmishes between the League and the Sith Order. During those years, they underwent numerous conceptual reforms, revisions, and changes before eventually being formalized as an air assault corps with air cavalry, air transport, and light armor support, allowing them to operate independently for relatively extended periods. When the Rimward Trade League Council and Defense Advisory Board established a permanent, League-commanded joint command, Suarbi's defense leaders recognized the value of the mobile infantry. They committed two divisions of the Corps to be on assignment to the League at all times, with the remaining three divisions in reserve and for security operations within the Suarbi system. This was increased by designing an assault frigate specifically as a large, armed transport to breach planetary defenses and get within deployable range, either via gunships or by landing somewhere and unloading from there.
