STANDARD FEATURES
ADVANCED SYSTEMS
STRENGTHS
  • Firepower: For a vessel of its size, the Azur-Class possesses strong stand-off capabilities that can deliver devastating damage to even heavily shielded Star Destroyers which is only augmented by its speed and maneuverability that grants it opportune firing angles. Its trio of Dual-Barreled Heavy Turbolaser turrets can quickly fire rapidly accurate salvos at enemy ships from long-range and break off before the enemy can even respond.

Not only can the Azur-Class assault ships many times its size, but it also has a strong anti-starfighter arsenal. The Frigate unleashes an unholy wall of flak from its rapid-fire laser cannons and VLS-launched homing missiles that for starfighters or bombers successfully getting close unscathed would be akin to walking through a rainstorm without getting wet.

  • Range: The KR-7770 targeting computer allows for the Azur-Class to coordinate its large arsenal and gives Chantemer already famed Naval Gunners almost supernatural accuracy over vast distances. It also allows the Azur-Class Frigate to engage targets at much further ranges, far outside of the range of enemy guns.

  • Agility: The powerful engines of the Azur-Class, based on older but still potent Imperial-I Star Destroyer, allow the Frigate to mostly outclass the majority of other ships in its class. The frigate can accelerate and decelerate rapidly while taking sharp turns only a Corvette could do.
WEAKNESSES
  • No starfighters: While the Azur-Class possesses a hangar bay at the rear of the ship, it is purely for landing resupply or personnel shuttles, and cannot reasonably sustain a starfighter compliment. Though stricken and wounded starfighters are known to make emergency landings when their carrier ships are too far away to reach.

  • Cooldown: due to the high power draw from the main battery of the Heavy Turbolaser, the Azur-Class Frigate is capable of only firing about a dozen volleys before it must take some time to recharge its batteries. This recharge period can leave it vulnerable to attack from enemy capital ships though its anti-starfighter and point-defences remain fully functional.
DESCRIPTION

The Azur-Class traces its origin back to the Naval Revolution of 801 ABY, where after the bloody reunification of Chantemer from the Rogue Princes brought back some semblance of stability the Chantemer Naval Self-Defense Force (CNSDF) reconsidered its priority. Under the new isolationist policy of Dictator Olan Poutine, the main priority of the CNSDF was to be an internal one focused on the defense of the system from threats external and internal instead of seeking to expand Chantemer's borders. New investment into the military-industrial complex by Poutine's crony corporate allies and cheap unregulated labor allowed the CNSDF to afford this doctrinal shift. The flagship of this revolution would be the new Azur-Class.

The Azur-Class began full production on 832 ABY after a long period of development and large overrun costs. It had been heavily opposed by the more conservative Pre-Fascist Monarchist Sects of the Navy who saw the Azur-Class as an evolutionary dead end that would forever eliminate the ability of Chantemer to project power beyond the system. A compromise was eventually made where a variant named the Azur II would be manufactured with a stronger hyperdrive and longer range. However, following Poutine's later purges of the Monarchists this was never put in production and the design was shelved.

The new Frigate shunned the typical starfighter complement that other Galactic navies typically had on ships of its size and sacrificed its hyperdrive for a weaker Class 1.5. In return, it gained formidable agility and monstrous firepower since more of the Hypermatter annihilation reactor could be dedicated to its guns and engines. In an engagement against Pirate Raiders, a single long-range volley from the Azur-Class Poulet's main Heavy Tubrolaser battery overpowered the shield batteries of a modified Vakbeor-class cargo frigate and effortlessly broke its spine.

In a skirmish with a rival neighboring system that had been raiding Chantemer trade lanes, a trio of Azur-Class Frigates exploited their superior speed to cross the T of the enemy battle line. They concentrated their fire on the leading Venator-Class attack cruiser and after minutes of pounding the outgunned vessel, left it a crippling burning husk at the loss of only a single Azur-Class Frigate.

The Azur-Class performs best when operating as part of a combined arms squadron and with other Azur-Class frigates. Jaune-Class Battlecruisers provide security against enemy counter-attacks and a point to regroup around. A favored tactic is for a squadron of four Azur-Class Frigates to have a pair of frigates dump their main battery at long-range against enemy ships before the other two take their place while the pair recharges under the cover of a battlecruiser, the brutal fusillade maintained through a tag-team. Sarcelle-Class Missilecruisers dart forward under escort from the Azur-Class to dump their payload into the center of the enemy formation all while Quasar Fire-class cruiser-carrier provides starfighter support. It can best be described as a serpent, lunging forward to inject venom into its prey before curling back into the protection of the rest of the body.

The Azur-Class carries a crew numbering 400 with a surge capacity for 100 passengers and cargo space rated for carrying 10,000 tons. The frigate is capable of docking with other ships its size and larger. Consumables are expected to allow an Azur-Class to remain in service without resupply for a galactic standard year.

The Azur-Class is the dagger of the Chantemer Navy, swift and agile yet long enough to stab into the heart of the foe.

STANDARD FEATURES
ADVANCED SYSTEMS
STRENGTHS
  • Firepower: the amount of weaponry that a Jaune-Class Battlecruiser carries with it is simply staggering. It carries twice the firepower of two Imperial-I Star Destroyers and then some more in its main armament alone, allowing it at times to outgun an entire task force many times its displacement. Its main battery and main striking power is made up of thirty-two Fusion Accelerator Cannons designed to strike at ranges far beyond retaliation range, a single full salvo able to shatter the backbone of cruisers that match its displacement.

Its complement of dual-purpose secondaries is equally as fearsome, designed to destroy capital ships and deter starfighters in a wall of turbo lasers and flak-fire. Combined with over a thousand missile tubes that can be loaded with point-defense rockets, getting close is a difficult task to say the least.

  • Proton Beam Cannon: Mounted on the bow is a powerful Proton beam cannon. Against frigates and even light cruisers it can penetrate from one end of the ship to the other, leaving them a burning hollowed-out husk. A single blast from it is enough to overwhelm the shields of anything but the heaviest dreadnought and melt through practically most hulls. The cannon possesses the furthest effective range of the Jaune-Class' arsenal, able to strike targets dozens of light minutes away.

During the Battle of Jan-IV in 899 ABY when pirates attacked Chantemer the leading enemy flagship, an outdated but still potent Imperial-II Star Destroyer, had its shields disabled by successive attacks from ion bombers before a Jaune-Class outflanked its rear to deal the execution blow. A single blast from the Proton Beam Cannon penetrated straight through the engines into the reactor, atomizing the criminal crew and much of the ship.

The Proton Beam Cannon is surprisingly good in the role of orbital bombardment, not because of its destruction, but its ability to rapidly overwhelm planetary shields. It can also penetrate up to 70 kilometers of crust to destroy deep-set bunkers.

  • Speed: But the Jaune-Class is more than firepower with its powerful engines allowing it to keep pace and chase down even starfighters. At full throttle, it can outspeed a TIE/fo space superiority fighter. Not only can it outrun its opponents, it can outgun them. If the Jaune-Class is ever placed in a situation where it cannot win decisively, its speed allows it to disengage to fight another day.

  • Raider: With its superior hyperdrive and speed as well as its ability to sustain itself for long periods, the Jaune-class functions as the perfect convoy raider. Its speed allows it to chase down even the fastest freighters and bat aside any escorts they might have. It excels at striking at trade lanes, laying down Mass-shadow mines to pull ships out of hyperspace, and keeping them trapped as it pummels them with its guns. If they attempt to escape it keeps them trapped using its prow-mounted Magnite Crystal Tractor Beam Array as it destroys their engines with pin-point precession.

Typically carrying a squadron of Marines and extra crew it can execute boarding actions to capture these ships to take home as trophies.
WEAKNESSES
  • Astral Horizons exclusive: not to say that Chantemer Astral Horizons is unwilling to sell the Jaune-Class, but because they currently are literally the only one of the few firms in the Galaxy capable of even making it. Not even the famed shipyards at Rothana can come close. Jaun-Class Battlecruisers can only be manufactured at a select few shipyards that despite every attempt to streamline production, can take up to three years to construct. This is due to the Juane Class being such a representation of the unique way of Chantemer naval thinking and relying heavily on Chantemer technology, that nobody but Chantemerians can hope to replicate its design.

  • Starfighter: Keeping with the Chantemerian doctrine of keeping line ships, ships of the line, the Jaune-Class carries a minuscule amount of starcraft. It retains hanger space only for support and transport craft, only having a single squadron of starfighters to serve as scouts and screening craft. This does not mean that the Jaune-Class is vulnerable to starfighter attacks, carrying a massive amount of point defence firepower, but that it lacks the capabilities that having a large starfighter compliment would bring.

  • Big Guns: the durability of the Jaune-Class more or less matches those of other cruisers of its class, meaning that its armor and shielding can more or less endure medium turbo laser fire and most starfighter weaponry. However, the heavy turbo lasers and main guns of larger ships carry the risk of being able to easily penetrate the shielding and armor of the battlecruiser right into its citadel which contains vital systems, such as the reactor and power cell storage.

  • Cooldown: while the Proton Beam is a devastating weapon, so is its cost to the Jaune-Class. In order to fire it the Jaune-Class must divert nearly all power from its hypermatter-annihilation reactor. This means that the main battery and all secondaries except for its EM-1919 paired repeating laser cannons (since they run on power cells instead of drawing power from the reactor) have to be rendered inert. Even after firing it can take up to half an hour for most systems to return to normal as the ship's reactor struggles to recover from the immense strain placed on it. It is not unusual for reactors to have to be replaced at a high cost after several shots.

  • Charge Up: It takes up to 30 seconds to fully charge up the cannon. During this period the Battlecruiser's shields must lower to the minimum or be destroyed by the sheer magnetic forces being unleashed. This leaves it susceptible to attack and if the cannon's capacitors, lying behind meters of Durasteel, are damaged during its charge-up it will cause a detonation so catastrophic that if it occurred on a planet it would scour the surface of a mega-continent.

Enemy sensors can very easily detect this charge-up process, making the Battlecruisers a priority target for ships in the theater.
DESCRIPTION

The Jaune-Class Battlecruiser is considered the pinnacle of Chantemer engineering and the finest craft ever laid down by Chantemer Astral Horizons. The Jaune-Class Battlecruiser is designed with a single philosophy in mind: to outrun what it cannot outgun, and outgun what cannot outrun it. Seemingly shunning the Anaxes War College System of ship clarification, the Chantmere Defence Forces considers the Jaune-Class a Battlecruiser to distinguish it from regular cruisers.

The Jaune-Class is considered within CDF doctrine to be a cruiser-killer due to it being able to outrun and outgun anything that shares its displacement. During a battle, it either serves as an anchoring ship for the smaller Azur-Class frigates to shelter under while their guns recharge or to leave the battle line to rapidly and decisively annihilate the enemies' pickett forces before a counter-attack can be mustered against it. Outside a line battle, on the wider scale of a campaign, the Jaune-Class can act independently for long periods where it primarily performs the duty of commerce raiding and disrupting enemy supply lines. It's ability to launch hyperspace-disrupting mines and sheer firepower lends to to an excellent ambusher, ripping vessels out of hyperspace and destroying them before they even knew what happened.

The Jaune-Class Battlecruiser is equipped with a massive arsenal of weapons but its main focus is on its main battery of Fusion Accelerator Cannons. Since heavy turbo lasers dissipated their energy at a faster rate the further they traveled, a mass-accelerator design was derived from schematics recovered by spies infiltrating the Galactic Civil War archives on Coruscant and stealing classified designs. Not much was fundamentally changed about their design apart from basic modernization since even 800 years later they still surpassed much of what the Galaxy had. Due to this, the Jaune-Class Battlecruiser can engage at extreme distances, far outside the range of enemy retaliation, being able to land hits on capital ships up to ten light minutes away while still causing catastrophic damage on hit.

The Proton Beam Cannon stands as one of the defining features of the Jaune-Class, able to annihilate smaller ships at long range. Its design and construction originated with the fear of much larger vessels attacking Chantemer. Its shipyards were unlikely to have the ability to manufacture ships large enough to counter full-on Battlecruisers and Dreadnoughts. Chantermerian skirmish tactics wouldn't even be able to scratch their paint. The Proton Beam Cannon was decided to be the CDF's only hope in such a case to cause enough damage to deter such threats. It was a controversial addition, one demanded by the political ruling party rather than a military committee, and feared to be a sign of feature creep that would derail the entire project. However, once more Chantermere's spies prevailed in a highly classified operation to copy schematics that sped along the developmental progress. While the Proton-Beam cannon has its weaknesses, especially in the charge-up phase, it was justified that these would be negated by any competent captain exploiting the range of the weapon to fire it from a range outside of enemy retaliation.

Guiding this wealth of firepower is the ship's main KR-7770 targeting computer enhanced by an LR-375a Sureshot advanced targeting array combined with the skill of Chantemerian gun crews that allow them to plant seemingly impossible salvos at long range. It is capable of accurate orbital bombardment as well though more designed to destroy concentrated enemy assets (factories, troop formations, centers of command and control) rather than an entire city.

It can carry about a battalion and a half worth of troops alongside their equipment at full surge capacity, making the battlecruiser a good vessel for transporting a rapid-reaction force even if it cannot provide close air support. The Jaune-Class is capable of operating in the atmosphere of planets by deploying its wings and can travel underwater for long periods. This makes ocean worlds the perfect place to lay low and wait for the heat to die down during convoy raiding missions.

The Jaune-Class was first conceived in 812 after General Olan Poutine overthrew the monarchy and established himself as a dictator, beginning a massive rearmament campaign as he sought to expand Chantemer's borders far beyond its system. The Jaune-Class Battlecruiser was envisioned as the main force of power projection, able to strike far beyond the system at any distant target that threatened Chantemer. However, development slowed down in 815 as isolationist ideals overtook the government and the designs were shelved.

In 864, Olan Poutine perished and with him his isolationist ideals. Under his son, Olivier Poutine, development on the Jaune-Class was resumed and the first hull was laid down in 870 with the construction of the first Jaune-Class The Olivier completed by 885. As more Jaune-Classes were launched, the manufacturing process was rapidly streamlined so that instead of taking hundreds of millions of credits and 15 years to construct a single ship they could now be made in a timetable of 3 years at a fraction of the cost.

Despite a turbulent design history, the Jaune-Class remains as the pinnacle of Chantemerian domestic engineering and a demonstration to the forces of the Galaxy that the planet-state is not to be underestimated.

PRODUCTION INFORMATION

  • Affiliation: Chantemer
  • Market Status: Closed-Market
  • Model: Adrian Helmet Mounted Display System (AHMDS) First Generation
  • Modularity: Yes
  • Production: Minor
  • Material:
SPECIAL FEATURES
STRENGTHS
  • Awareness: The AHMDS First Generation grants the wearer unparalleled situational awareness of the entire battlefield, practically giving the average pilot the same capabilities in understanding the situation as a commander on a flagship though filtered down to usable levels.

The pilot can see through the hull of their starfighter and directly through the sensors of their aircraft in low-visibility conditions. It can magnify its vision onto distant starfighters where its image recognition systems can correctly identify its type and make it long before the two ever get within engagement range. Its audio technology allows pilots to cut through the chatter and focus on specific calls while able to still processing the other dozen flooding in.

  • "Blink-And-Kill": Eye-tracking technology allows the ship's targeting systems to slave to the pilot's vision. A pilot can lock onto an enemy target by simply looking at it and blinking even if it is off-boresight from sensors, allowing lasers and missiles to be fired from seemingly impossible angles.
WEAKNESSES
  • Custom: The nature of the Adrian skull-based liner and precise eye alignment necessitates that every single helmet must be custom-made to fit the user. If another user were to use it, systems such as eye-tracking would be imprecise or outright malfunction. Most of the time it just won't fit their head.

  • Difficulty of use: The sheer information density, even after data fusion, is difficult for all but the best-trained pilots. The Adrian was developed primarily for use by the elite Chantemerian pilots that make up the starfighter core and as a result match their standard. Their pilots are often trained to process data to such an extent that your average Chantemerian can read two books at the same time, each with a separate eyeball (depending on the species). Pilots that use the Adrian as a result must be highly skilled in processing data, sometimes requiring re-training.

It can be used without training but pilots will have to dedicate a large portion of their attention and mental faculties to processing the data, leaving limited space for tactics and informed split-second decisions.
DESCRIPTION

While other designs like it exist on the Galactic Market, Chantemer Astral Horizons sought to create one based on home-grown components to avoid import shocks as war spread through the galaxy and the Poutine regime also wished to negate the effects of potential sanctions. The result was that the Adrian Helmet Mounted Display System (AHMDS). The Adrian is one of the most advanced pilot systems designed in recent years, birthed from the loins of Chantemerian ingenuity and a not-minuscule price of 50,000 credits per unit. It deploys a curve wave-guided holographic display (CWGHD) that tracks the eye movement and blink patterns of the pilot and possesses a ComTech Sensa-Mic while using a Dysonic Motivator and Aux Power Cells to power the multitude of systems.

Due to the poor volume control in the cockpit and vibration from its ion engines the AHMDS possesses a 3D-Audio/Active Noise Reduction system that controls noise levels acoustically and electrically. When listening to alerts and updates from flight systems, it employs spatial separation of messages where messages are directional in the earphones of the pilot. It essentially allows the pilot is focus on one message while being able to process a multitude of others granting them exceptional awareness even in the most chaotic of battlespaces.

The Adrian features a shock-absorbing liner made from a shear-thickening non-newtonian fluid and is constructed from a carbon nanotube-reinforced carbon fiber Duraplast which is custom molded to the head of each individual pilot to prevent internal damage should the pilot strike their head against their cockpit. The lightweight nature of the material means that even while appearing bulky, the Adrian is extremely lightweight which reduces neck and spine strain on pilots during high-stress maneuvers. A nozzle connects the Adrian to a Diagnostech life support unit though the helmet itself can be sealed to provide the pilot with 12 hours of breathable air.

The vision of the pilot is fed through a DAMARUNG-CLASS artificial reality simulator head mount using a CWGHD display to provide a 210-degree horizontal arc and 185 vertical forward-facing field of view. Eye measurements of pilots are taken to ensure that images projected into their visors converge perfectly with their natural field of view. The visor allows the pilot to tap directly into the sensors of the craft when flying in low-visibility conditions using a Electron Bombarded Active Pixel Sensor which incorporates new non-blooming, low halo tech with automatic gain control with a 1000 hertz refresh rate, allowing the pilot to see what the aircraft sees. It can focus and track targets up to 500 levels of magnification.

An 81-axis internal measurement unit (IMU) and a substrate-guided wave (SGW) based eye tracking system built into the Adrian provide tracking of the pilot's eye movement and allow targeting systems to slave to the pilot's vision. The "blink-and-kill" feature means that a pilot can lock onto an enemy target by simply looking at it and blinking in a pre-selected pattern even if it is off-boresight from sensors, allowing lasers and missiles to be fired from seemingly impossible angles.

If the starfighter possesses the A.V.A.L.O.N (Automated Versatile Advanced Linking Operations Network) Fusion System or multiple Multispectral Distributed Aperture System (MDAS) cameras placed on their aircraft, the Adrian allows these multiple viewpoints to be stitched together into a single 360-degree spherical image, allowing the pilot to see through their own-starcraft. To track pilot head motion to ensure harmony between movement and view, Adrian uses a magnetic field and detects changes in that field to record direction. Combined with the "blink-and-kill" feature, if an enemy starfighter gets on a pilot's rear that pilot can look backward and cleanly fire off a missile backwards. If the correct data banks are downloaded onto the starship, a pilot can choose to look at an enemy starship and object recognition programs will identify the model while providing vital information on its capabilities.

If damaged, the display can be lifted to use the backup panoramic polarized visor lined with perspex for eye protection and anti-glare functions. This visor lacks the capability of being able to tap directly into the sensors and has inferior eye-tracking capabilities though retains all other capabilities.

DESCRIPTION

The Chantemer Defence Forces made the bold decision to phase out the use of astromech droids in their starfighters. The CDF viewed droids as reaching a technological dead end, giving decreasing marginal returns with each generation to the point that inbuilt systems could fulfill their duty of controlling flight and power distribution systems. This replacement came in the form of A.V.A.L.O.N (Automated Versatile Advanced Linking Operations Network), an Avionics and datalink system.

One of its key features is its information fusion algorithms to combine the onboard and off-board sensor information while at the same time managing the complicated processing systems for the pilot. The fusion algorithms are encapsulated within an internal entity referred to as the fusion engine, while sensor inputs and data users are managed by a series of software objects known as virtual interface models (VIMs). When data is received, sensor-specific or datalink-specific VIMs rectify missing data, preprocess the information, and standardize it for the fusion process. The isolation of fusion algorithms from both the sensor and datalink inputs, as well as any systems using, said fused data, ensures that a new data source to the fusion process doesn't necessitate changes that affect all users of the message, mitigating the high cost of fusion modifications. Each data-demanding system is therefore provided only with the pertinent information required to support that system. This ensures that the fusion architecture remains adaptable to new sensors, data sources, and data-demanding systems throughout its lifespan meaning that a platform with A.V.A.L.O.N equipped installed can more or less seamlessly add on new sensors without having to reprogram the entire package.

A.V.A.L.O.N is capable of sharing sensor data with other ships also carrying an A.V.A.L.O.N. It uses a digital waveform that operates using Hyperwave. This waveform is also designed to be resilient to jamming and interference using a combination of seamless frequency hopping through billions of pre-determinate wavelengths if one is found to be jammed, making it nearly impossible to interrupt or intercept data.

When sharing data it uses sensor measurements rather than sensor tracks, giving precise track accuracy and enabling empathic sensing across aircraft. This enables one starfighter to serve as the guidance for another missile, launched from either a fellow starfighter or from further away by capital ships.

This also allows multiple A.V.A.L.O.N users to combine their sensor suites into a greater entity giving a squadron functionally the extended detection range and power of a much larger ship like the EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate. This combined sensor system is so powerful that it can functionally "burn" out weaker opposing sensor suites, causing them to register a massive indiscernible white blob or in the worst case overload enemy processing systems causing catastrophic failure.

Essentially A.V.A.L.O.N allows a single pilot to have the processing power of an entire capital ship while filtering only essential information from other sources, practically giving them greater awareness than other pilots still operating astromech droids.

Examples include: Stealth systems, Advanced ECM systems, Crystal gravfield traps, HIMS, Molecular shields. Links: Starship Weapons, Approved Technology, Shields, Engines)
STRENGTHS
  • Speed:

With afterburners, the MF-06s Gargoyle is capable of reaching up to 3.5% the speed of light using just its subspace engines.
WEAKNESSES
  • (Provide, in list format, a minimum of 1 weaknesses of this submission.)

Created in 899 ABY to serve as the prototype of the new line of interceptors, the MF-06S Gargoyle II is considered the premier masterwork of Chantemer Astral Horizons. The overclocked interceptor was filled to the brim with the most advanced technology both domestic and foreign that Chantemer could get its hands on. It was never meant to be placed into mass production, as manufacturing even several squadrons would bankrupt even the Galactic Republic, but rather as a tech demonstrator to test how these components would react when built into the same system. Astral Horizons experienced great difficulty in this department due to the disparate origin of many of these components until in 802 when their avionics department made a breakthrough with the A.V.A.L.O.N 2.0 algorithm which allowed these parts to more or less be seamlessly combined into the same network.
