DESCRIPTION
The Corel II, also called the Corellian Star Destroyer was a vast departure from the original design of the Corellian Engineering Corporation. Gone were the trappings of the age-old Rebel Alliance and shipping aesthetic. Gone were the oblong shape and curves typical of Corellian cruiser design, replaced by the utilitarian tried and true wedge shape that has dominated the stars since the ancient Mandalorian Wars. The only thing connecting the Corel II to its Corellian roots were the large engine blocks at the rear of the vessel that propelled it through the stars at blistering speeds.

At a length of 1000 meters, the Corel II was several hundred meters larger than its predecessor, a design choice made to reduce the number of vessels in the Corellian fleet. Not unlike the Galactic Alliance's own pocket star destroyers, the Corel II was meant to be both the Corellian Defense Force's main ship of the line while also being flexible enough to perform other duties such as patrol, troop transport, and carrier. Several turbolaser batteries lined either side of the wedge-shaped hull giving it powerful broadsides and devastating focus fire at targets directly ahead of it. Laser cannons and smaller turbolasers were also scattered throughout the trenches defending it from smaller craft or for attacks on smaller capital ships that did not require the full barrage of its heavy turbolaser batteries. Both its greatest strength and its greatest weakness, the powerful Corellian engine blocks made the Corel II one of the Confederation's quickest vessels making escort duties for the Corel II difficult. The engine block also created a near-total blind spot for visual scanners directly behind it. Vessels flying close enough to the engines could even defy detection with traditional scanners, the energy signatures becoming engrossed in the readings from the engine itself.

Other than its blindspot, the Corel was a highly competent vessel, its communications suite while nothing outlandish served its purposes well. The bridge tower consisted of several decks and was of typical design compared to other Star Destroyers. Its main differentiating factor were the heavily armored flaps that could open and close on command, protecting those behind it from direct attack. Sensors and cameras along the hull provided visual data that would then be reproduced 1:1 making the transition from transparisteel to screen seamless. The bridge was split into two decks. Deck one was dedicated to fighter control and had quarters for the ship's commanding officer in the starfighter corps. Deck two was the typical bridge where the ship's captain and their officers commanded the vessel and organized the fleet. This deck held the captain's quarters and guest quarters for several VIPs.

The Corel II also contained several hangars, most of which were dedicated to the vessel's complement of four squadrons with ready rooms, sleeping quarters, and engineering decks. Two hangars on either side housed the fighter squadrons with an underbelly hangar capable of receiving larger freighters, diplomatic vessels, or pulling in apprehended vessels with its powerful tractor beams. The inclusion of starfighters as a part of the vessel's arsenal vastly expanded the Corel's mission profile compared to its predecessor which only had enough for light scouting and barely enough to be a threat should they have encountered larger vessels alone. While the Corel II would never want to fight alone, it was easily capable of doing so, its starfighters were able to bring firepower to bear on enemy vessels quickly and efficiently.

While the Corel II became the mainline vessel for the Corellian navy in the years following the Second Great Hyperspace War, many would also see service in other Galactic Powers, chiefly the Galactic Alliance, serving alongside its own star destroyers in fleets or as solitary patrol vessels along the edges of what used to be Maw Space and within the Chiss Protectorate. For the Corellians they would replace both the aging Bothan Heavy Cruisers, the Corel I, and other star destroyer-sized vessels they had been using since the refounding of the Corellian Confederation. It also aided in phasing out the large, aging Resurgent-Class dreadnoughts they had salvaged from First Order refugees of the Ssi-ruu invasion. Though these vessels would mostly be mothballed or salvaged they were not completely gone, with many serving solitary duties in sleepier parts of Confederation Space.
