  • Stealth: The Araphel-class is stacked with stealth technology, ranging from the stygium-cloak to the whisperthrust engine and the gravitic amplitude modifier. The ship is designed to sneak past defences and other ships to deliver it's crew wherever they need to go.
  • Disguise: Sometimes stealth isn't the best option, sometimes coming in the front door looking like someone else is the direction you want to take. To that end, the Araphel-class is equipped with a holographic shell and signature modulator, allowing them to pretend to be another ship.
  • Nimble: Fast and agile, the Araphel can out-run and out-fly almost everything that it might come across in space if it can't hide from it.
  • Variable Form: The 'wings' of the craft are anchored in place by powerful magnetic fields, which allows the form of the ship to be altered, allowing it to maintain it's speed and manoeuvrability regardless of the medium which it finds itself in, from the vacuum of space to a nebule, to an atmosphere or even an ocean.

  • Sneaky Sneaky: While the stealth systems on the Araphel-class are significant and capable of hiding the ship from most sensors in order to maintain it's stealth, to remain completely hidden the Araphel needs to slow right down to allow the whisperthrust to disguise it's trail, making it an easier target if found.
  • There you are: While safe from most normal sensors, advanced sensors such as a crystal grav trap (the GAM makes it harder to spot, but not impossible), quantum radar and gravity fields could still locate the ships as could force users.
  • No touchy: While disguised as another ship the Araphel-class could sneak through most forms of security, but a close-range inspection will reveal the lie.

With the rise of the Inquisition within CIS space John saw a need for ships that could provide the Inquisition and other CIS forces a way to sneak onto a planet and deploy military or inquisitional forces.
The Araphel-class stealth frigates were his answer to this need, small fast capital ships capable of using stealth and cloaking technology to sneak past sensors and defences. The Araphel-class ships were equipped with a stygium cloak, allowing them to use their sensors to locate and track targets or emplacements that could spot them allowing the ship to avoid potential problems before they could be uncovered. The addition of a whisperthrust engine allowed them to prevent being tracked by their engine trail, a common trick in locating stealthed ships. While the Araphel's were loaded up with as many stealth systems as possible, they could still be located through advanced sensors or the force.
Not every situation calls for invisibility, sometimes a lesser form of stealth is all that is required, rather than an invisible ship trying to gain entry to a docking port on a station the Araphel comes equipped with a holographic shell that allows it to disguise itself as another ship. A signature modulator allows the ship to further this disguise, although a close-range inspection could reveal the truth of the lie the shell was more than enough to fool a cursory inspection, allowing them to dock with a station.
The Araphel was a fast and agile ship that could outrun most targets they would come across or hide if they needed to. However, the weapons loaded on the ship could be front-loaded to create a heavy punch that could hurt a more powerful ship either destroying it or staggering it for long enough for the Araphel class frigates to escape.
A unique ability of the ship was it's ability to remodel its wing on the fly, using magnetic fields to move the parts which form the wings to allow the Araphel-class frigates to maintain their speed and manoeuvrability in any manner of medium that they might find themselves travelling in.
All in all the Araphel-class ships were a versatile and useful addition to the shiplist and a ship which John hoped would come in useful to those he had become responsible for.

This is genuinely a strange ship but the idea to move your pieces around makes things very interesting. I see nothing wrong with it and kept checking over strengths/weaknesses.

Pending Mentor Approv-oh wait, that is you. Well with suggestion, Pending Other Factory Judge.
