Times were changing for the Jedi. The Dark Empire has sent the Alliance reeling, and forced its members to reevaluate their approach to the growing threat. For the Jedi, part of that decision meant relocating the Order's vulnerable into mobile stations, while a more permanent solution was formulated. The two primary stations were the Propserity, a Tho Yor and once the home base of the New Jedi Order in its younger years; The other was the Vonnuvi, an Ithorian herdship home to a local affiliated Jedi Enclave, established by the NJO's own Chief Healer Amani Serys-Organa.

Here, it was decided, the untrained younglings and padawans would be kept, safely out of reach from their enemies. When the transfers were all completed, the Vonnuvi's leadership saw it fit to host a night for the Enclave's members and their latest arrivals to intermingle. That night, when the Vonnuvi's simulated skies were dimmed to evening, present Jedi were invited to attend a gathering in the mess hall, where a feast had been prepared by their Ithorian benefactors.

It was a chance for the newcomers to settle in, eat, and discuss current events with peers from both the NJO and the Vonnuvi Enclave. There was much to be said, and even more to be done.

1 - The Feast​

Attend the banquet in the Enclave's mess hall. A variety of dishes have been prepared to cater to every palate, and ensure the Jedi can enjoy themselves for the evening. Interact with friends old and new, discuss the unfolding events that brought everyone here (or take your mind off it).

2 - The Enclave​

If you prefer to be somewhere more quiet, much of the staff and students have taken to the banquet, and the rest of the Enclave is still open to be explored. Acquaint yourself with the dorms, the courtyard, or any other part of the complex.

"Welcome, thanks for coming," Amani repeated herself a number of times as more people filed into the canteen. Some she recognized from the Enclave, others from the temple on Coruscant. Emotions were unsurprisingly mixed as people struggled to familiarize themselves with the new space. Thoughts dwelled on the threats that brought them here, or on the desire to take the fight back to them. Others just wanted a night of peace. Hopefully, this would be just that.

A droid came by to relieve Amani of her duty, allowing her a chance to sit down at one of the tables. She wasn't hungry right now herself, but the smorgasbord of food was certainly tantalizing. She hoped the others would be encouraged to take full advantage of it. For now she simply relaxed. Perhaps the time would come later for an open address to any and all who attended, but in the meantime, she thought it best to simply let folks get settled in.

Forty-three hours.

That was how long Gatz had gone without sleep. With the Dark Empire in the Core, soldiers still being evacuated to Coruscant for medical treatment, a mission to Ithor to determine the state of the occupied planet, and now this... he just didn't have time for rest. Even now, watching his fellow Jedi filing in, Gatz couldn't help but feel as though he was wasting time he didn't have.

He should have stayed on Coruscant. He was still needed there. There weren't enough doctors and nurses to go around—

A wave of dizziness hit Gatz, and he had to lean up against the wall to keep himself from collapsing. He wasn't stupid. He knew he was exhausted. He couldn't remember the last time he ate, but he found that his appetite simply didn't exist. Stress, probably. He needed rest and food, but couldn't bring himself to entertain the idea of taking either. Too much to do, so little time to get it done.

With one hand, he wiped at eyes with heavy bags under them. His head was pounding. He needed to sit down, but if he sat down he wouldn't get back up for at least twelve hours, and he was planning on heading straight back to Coruscant after this.

He'd stay, just in case Master Serys-Organa had something important to say. Then hit hyperspace. He could get some shuteye on the way back. For now, though, he focused his blurry vision on his peers.

“Gatz, are you all right?”

Inanna’s voice came from directly in front of him. She had stopped a few feet away, holding a plate of food in one hand and Ashur in her other arm. The latter was nibbling from the former, red eyes watching his mother’s face to carefully time his theft of her refreshments whenever she wasn’t paying attention.

Right now her concern was fixed upon her apprentice. “You look a little… like you’re coming down with something.” Truthfully, he looked awful—pale, sleep-deprived, and unsteady on his feet. “How are you feeling?”

Valery drew in a deep breath and looked down across the courtyard from atop a small bridge. It felt like a huge relief that the younglings and mostly untrained Padawans were now safe. Between the Prosperity and the Vonnuvi Enclave, they could continue their training, interact with other Jedi, and see more of the Galaxy while also being a safe distance away from the new war. It's something that happened far too late in the last war, and she wouldn't allow those same mistakes to be made again.

The Jedi were ready to defend Coruscant, but they didn't need to expose the youngest to that.

Still, despite the relief in her heart, Valery felt exhausted. War forced her to work overtime, and visions of the ongoing conflict plagued her at night or whenever she did try to rest.

Perhaps some time aboard this moving Enclave would be good for her.

[Shan]

Shan was sure that plenty of other Jedi would be going off to the banquet to be meeting amongst each other and trying to keep their minds off the upcoming battles and war...but there was no way Shan was going to be one of them. He was not much of a social person in the first place but he wanted to make sure the Enclave will be suitable for younglings. Of course, better Jedi than him have already checked it out but he needed the self relief for himself. War and fighting wasn't something that ever came naturally to him. It was part of why he had left his lightsaber behind in his interceptor. The more he could detach himself away from fighting, the better for him. As much as there was part of him that wanted to stay on the Enclave...The people on Coruscant were going to need as many people as they could if there was a battle. And not just fighters. They'd need healers like Shan...

No. Don't focus on the negativity. Shan clapped his hands against his face for a moment to snap out of that thought process. There were people who were going to be more stressed than he was. People who were under more pressure than him. Just focus on what he can do. Not focus on what he can't do.

The Mirialan made his way to the court and sat himself down, closing his eyes to start some meditation. Clear his mind. It might not be healthy, but he didn't like the idea of passing his burdens onto someone else. He used to talk to Corazona and Ko about his issues plenty, but since they were knighted, Shan had taken a step back. They had their own stress to be dealing with. Next time he had a chance to talk to them though, he'd open up...Next time. Totally.

[Eloise Dinn]

Eloise didn't spend much time with the NJO Padawans anymore, not since she’d become Amani's apprentice and moved to the Vonnuvi. It was maybe the best decision she'd made since joining the Jedi. On Coruscant she disliked nearly everyone, and they in turn shut her out. Her experience at the Enclave had been better in pretty much every possible way. To put it delicately, you didn't feel like you were getting lost in the shuffle here the way you were on Coruscant. There was no need to impress the Councilors or ingratiate yourself with a master to get anywhere, no pressure to fit in with a crowd. She could be her ugly, unpleasant self without being told she wasn’t a good enough Jedi for it. That she didn’t belong among their exalted ranks.

But now Coruscant was being brought to the Vonnuvi, and Eloise had no say in the matter. Sure, she understood the whole safety thing, but she couldn’t help feeling a little like an animal whose territory was being encroached upon. The way she saw it, she was here first. They were the ones who didn’t belong in this place.

There was no discussing her feelings at present with her master, who was busy playing hostess. She already knew what Amani would say. That these people weren’t so bad; that she just needed to give them another chance, be a little kinder, and perhaps she could even make some friends.

After grabbing a few refreshments, Eloise fethed off to the courtyard. There was a Mirialan Padawan meditating on the grass, his face vaguely recognizable. She thought his name may have been Shawn or Shan—or maybe it was Sam? Whatever. She retreated to a quiet corner of the yard and sat down on the grass to eat and drink in peace.

Now that Rayia’s secret was out, she was finding that she didn’t mind trying to integrate or mingle with others. ‘I don’t feel like the monster in the dark. At least, not so much. Not with the Order, I guess,’ she amended mentally. She had received the invitations to the deliberations being held about what to do next regarding the Dark Empire on the Vonnuvi. Rayia had decided to attend both to meet the far travelling members of their Order present, and also to brush up on current events.

She was surprised to see a few familiar faces. Namely Valery, Amani, Shan, and Gatz. ‘I do wonder what it means though that the times when the Order feels most closely knit heralds the start of some malevolent entity on the rise,’ Rayia thought.

An involuntary shudder caught her in the middle of the buffet area at the last name. Not at Gatz himself, but at the memories of their most recent mission together. A mission which Rayia had… not enjoyed to put it lightly. Her hackles still flared up whenever someone touched her. One time, another padawan had brushed up against her on her way out of the library. Rayia had been mortified that a growl had ripped from her throat leaving the poor thing pinned to the wall with fear. She’d fled before her inner beast caused her to do anything rash as her cheeks burned red.

“…Food. Food is a cure all,” she muttered to herself, heaping a generous mound of steaks, ribs, drumsticks, etc. Balancing her prize precariously on the small plates provided, she sat down on the soft grass not too far from a tall, abrasive looking padawan with purple hair, green eyes and freckles. She sported a frown which looked like it was her permanent expression. A clear contrast to Shan on Rayia’s other side, who appeared to be meditating.

Shan's eyes fluttered open for a moment to take in the sights around him. He had managed to bring himself back to reality...Though even if he hadn't, the scent of meat would have ruined his meditation anyway. An eyebrow raised at the mound that he could Rayia had in the distance, a small smirk making its way on his face. Whilst he might personally not be a huge fan of meat, he knew plenty of people who would probably be jealous at all of the food Rayia had. Wait...Food! Shan made a mental note that he should probably stock up on some kind of long-lasting food to give out to people when he was back at Coruscant...

Either way, the Mirialan smiled and raised his hand in greeting, first to Rayia who he'd have had some positive experiences with in the past. And then also sending a small wave alongside smile in the direction of...Eleanor? Ellie? Eloise? He wasn't too sure. Most of what he knew about her, if anything, was that she was close to Amani. And if that was the case...Well, Shan owed plenty to his fellow Mirialan. So Eloise was good in his book.

She seemed...content enough where she was and Shan didn't want to interrupt someone who might have been relaxing in peace. Who knew how many chances people would get for peace in the upcoming months? Either they'll be out on the field...or they'll be in the Enclave that wouldn't be familiar to most. Instead, he headed off towards Rayia.

"Hey there. Long time no see. How are you doing? And how's Jonyna? Taking Ko's knighting well?"

That was roughly one of the last times Shan had seen the Cathar Jedi Knight. Well, there was that time on New Cov...but that was more of a training session, than a time for him to chat. He sat himself down near Rayia giving her another little smile.

"Master Noble..."

Jalen had made his way onto the small bridge overlooking the courtyard. Admittedly, it felt as though it had been some time since he last spoke with the Sword of the Jedi. Her aura, as always, was recognizable in an instant, but her emotions were as well. The exhaustion swirling around her was great, no doubt from the weight of carrying the order on her shoulders. She had the support of the council, of course, but there was no denying the work she did for all of them.

"I... find that conversation helps clear the mind of patients in the field," he noted, trying to approach the topic in a professional manner. "While it's important to confide in immediate family, sometimes it helps to get out frustrations to a third party."

The blind padawan sighed, leaning against the ledge of the bridge.

"Sorry if that's... nosey," Jalen remarked with a frown, "But I... I figured it might be nice to return a favor. I've not taken your guidence for granted."

Jonyna had only been to the herdship once before, for Amani Serys 's ceremony of becoming a master. She hoped, one day, she could reach that too. For now though, she stared out on the Enclave's garden idly, lost in thought.

The loss of Teta and Tython sent her back to darker days, and the idea of an Empire in the core put worry in Jonyna's eyes for the first time in a long time. She had enjoyed the comfort of seeing the core worlds under the security and prosperity of the Galactic Alliance, and now...

Now that was in question. Part of her questioned if this was the start of more dark days. She had heard the stories of the Second Great Hyperspace War, and she prayed that those days wouldn't come again.

She didn't want another Empire. She shivered at the thought.

Fear was a foreign concept to her. She didn't get scared, she got angry. Angry at the problem that she could then fix.

But this was bigger than her. Part of her wanted to go on the offensive, but what would the Council think?

"...Sylvar, I wish I still had my crew..."

“…Food. Food is a cure all.”

Eloise's eyes darted toward the source of the noise. Another interloper, some sort of furry alien, had arrived in the courtyard and was muttering to herself. As if that wasn't annoying enough, the Mirialan stopped meditating in order to strike up a conversation with her, dropping a whole bunch of vaguely familiar names of other Jedi.

Of course they all knew each other and were buddy-buddy. Eloise contemplated leaving just so she wouldn't have to listen to their little discussion about so-and-so's knighting. But no. She wasn't going to be chased out of her own home by these people.

Maybe if she smoked, it would drive them out. Nah, she was trying to give that up. Well, if they were going to talk right next to her, might as well join in. "Is Ko that guy who screwed up the ventilation systems that one time?" she asked. "How'd he get knighted?"

"Hello, Jalen." Valery's lips tugged up into a smile when she felt his presence and heard his voice. It helped her snap out of her own mind and pulled her away from darker thoughts. Being here was nice, even if she had wished it were under different circumstances, and she needed to remember that.

Jalen was good company as well — someone she had helped before, and he very clearly wanted to be there for her in return. It showed he had the heart of a true Jedi, and she'd always appreciate it.

"It's not nosey, don't worry," she assured him. "The last few days, weeks maybe, have just been busy. Bringing the young here and to the Prosperity is a great help, but it doesn't feel that satisfying, knowing why we had to bring them here." And it was her duty to be the tip of the blade against the kinds of evil that caused this.

It felt like her failure that planets in the core had fallen.

“Gatz, are you all right?”

Gatz blinked, snapped back to attention from zoning out—which he hadn't realized he'd even been doing. But judging by the fact that his master was standing right in front of him, Ashur on her hip, and he hadn't seen, heard, or felt her presence until just now... well, maybe he was a little bit out of it. Moreso than maybe he should be. Even so, there was nothing to do about it but push forward.

"Fine," Gatz rasped, clearly not fine, "just a long couple of days, that's all."

And longer ones still ahead of him. The war with the Dark Empire had only just begun. If he couldn't keep it together in the early stages of the conflict, then how as going to be of use to anyone when things really ramped up? A little sleep deprivation never killed anyone... except all those people that it had killed, but hey, he probably wouldn't be part of that statistic, right? This wasn't even the longest amount of time he'd gone without sleep!

Gatz groaned and pushed himself off the wall. Wonderful proof that he was in good shape. Idly, Gatz recalled that Master Serys-Organa had once taught him of the importance of triage. He'd interpreted that lesson literally: how to judge which patients were in the most critical need of help. Now, though, he was wondering if that same lesson was also meant to be applied to his own needs. He wasn't sure how much longer he could go on like this, but he also wasn't sure how to stop.

"It's nothing to worry about, Master. I've survived much worse."

It wasn't entirely a fib.

The warm, savory taste of the meat filled Rayia's mouth as she lifted up one of the drumsticks to her mouth. The delicate flesh splayed open easily as Rayia's fangs sliced into it, culminating with the sharp crack and crunch of bone splintering. Rayia chewed and swallowed, holding the shorn away stump of the drumstick remaining in her fist. The smallest hint of a purr slipped from Rayia's lips as she closed her eyes and savored the taste. 'It isn't quite as good as Mentor Jonyna's steaks, but I'd still give this a solid 7 or 8 on taste,' She thought to herself.

Her tail bristled as it sensed movement in her vicinity and Rayia's golden eyes shot open. Remembering too late that she was not alone, Rayia tried to keep herself from voicing the embarrassed scream as she saw Shan making his way over towards her. Feeling slightly embarrassed by the amount of food she had swiped from the buffet, she tossed away the broken drumstick and delicately lifted the other towards the approaching padawan. "Sorry, did you want some?" Rayia asked.

Her ears twitched as she registered both Shan's questions and the interjection posed by the dour looking Padawan near them. Honestly, Rayia was a bit surprised. Her body language and the motions that Rayia could sense from her gave her the impression that the other padawan felt encroached upon. Rayia's bestial instincts recognized the sensation of bristling in defense of one's territory. But acknowledging either Rayia or Shan in conversation, and not aggression, was inviting them into her space.

Rayia's golden eyes turned towards Shan first to address his questions. "I am doing alright. Mentor Jonyna is too. Though, I would suspect that she's feeling the first set of pangs of her baby chicks leaving the nest. How are you doing, Shan?" Rayia said, before turning towards the other Padawan.

"That would be Ko. He did mention that he set the smoke alarms off one time. And I believe he conducted himself well in the recent fighting with the Dark Empire. I... don't really know. I was on a different mission at the time," Rayia said, and gave the stranger a smile. "My name is Rayia. What are you called?"

"It's not nosey, don't worry," she assured him. "The last few days, weeks maybe, have just been busy. Bringing the young here and to the Prosperity is a great help, but it doesn't feel that satisfying, knowing why we had to bring them here."

"It's better to air on the side of caution," Jalen agreed. "They... don't need to experience what is to come. But the fact that they are in the crosshairs of such danger? That shouldn't be the case."

The attack on Tython was unprecidented. Never had such a thing occured since the war, and even then it came after a grueling military campaign through the corridore. This? It had been so out of the blue. Sure, they had felt some darkness that hinted at such events, but nobody could have predicted that it would have been that.

He gave a faint smile when Valery asked him how he was holding up.

"I like to think I'm more prepared than most," the padawan remarked with a shrug. "And I'm getting plenty of work out in the field to occupy my mind... A blessing and a curse, really." Becoming desensitized to carnage came with its own problems. "I know how to help at the very least. Not everyone can say that with their chest."

The medic gave another sigh, adjusting his sleeves. It was hard not to feel deflated at all of this. But then again, that was war. It wasn't supposed to be pretty.

"How about yourself?" he asked.

 

[Shan]

Shan gave a short shake of his head at the offer of the food. "No, no. It's fine. If you need to eat, you need to eat." He was happy enough with the packed lunches he made himself every day anyway. Had to make sure he got all of the right nutrients and everything...Even if sometimes breaking his diet plan felt good sometimes.

"Doing well enough I suppose. Been doing bits around the temple. Helping treat some of the Soldiers on Coruscant, or helping people evacuate from Dark Empire space."
Just a regular day in the life for a Jedi, he supposed. The blissful ignorance and hope Shan used to have hadn't survived the test of time. Being a Jedi wasn't rainbows, lollipops and Loth Kittens. He gave a short nod at the comment about Jonyna's feelings towards her "baby chicks" leaving the nest. He kept his comment about how Jonyna would probably eat baby chicks if she could to himself. That was insensitive. Yes.

"Don't worry about it Rayia. I'm sure...whatever other mission you were on, was equally as valuable as what Ko was doing."

Did Shan fully believe that himself? Well...No. It was hard for him to think of anything that was more important than trying to stem back the tide. But everyone had their own desires and goals at the end of the day. Instead he turned his attention over towards Eloise, giving a shrug of his shoulders.

"It wouldn't surprise me if Ko did. He always seemed more focused with nature than tech."

Well. The only time Shan could think of Ko being good at tech was when it came to watching those whole animated Atrisan cartoons. Of course there had always been a couple of times one of the shows hadn't been available...If Ko had been okay with watching them illegally but nooooo. Ko was all "We have to support the creators."

The furry alien proceeded to demolish a drumstick, bones snapping loudly between her fanged jaws. Eloise stared at the sight, her upper lip slightly curled in a wince. She'd break her teeth if she tried that.

"That would be Ko. He did mention that he set the smoke alarms off one time. And I believe he conducted himself well in the recent fighting with the Dark Empire. I... don't really know. I was on a different mission at the time."

Recent fighting with the Dark Empire? They were letting Padawans march off to war? Well, Ko was probably old as chit by now. Old enough to get tossed in the meat grinder, anyway. It was still a weird thing to realize. All the older kids that from when she first joined—Ko, Corazona, Makko—were probably getting shipped off to war now. For some reason she had imagined she would see them here, huddling among the younglings, frozen at seventeen.

"It wouldn't surprise me if Ko did. He always seemed more focused with nature than tech."

"What's that got to do with him gassing up the dorms?" Eloise asked with a snort. "Eh, can't really blame him. Having to wear a mask all the time just to breathe? I'd get tired of it fast."

Rayia gave the stranger a smile. "My name is Rayia. What are you called?"

"Eloise." She pointed to her teeth. "You got a little... piece of bone or sinew or something stuck in your..."

Braze found himself deeply discontented with his current situation. Being confined was nothing new to him, but this place felt particularly suffocating, like a smaller, more oppressive prison compared to the bustling freedom of Coruscant. The novelty of the unfamiliar surroundings failed to captivate him; he had been here once before, at the very least. Everything seemed different - strange smells, sights, faces, and environments. Like a lost animal in a foreign land, he paced restlessly, unable to find solace.

His elevated state brought on frequent nightmares, robbing him of precious sleep. The combination of sleep deprivation, heightened anxiety, and bitter discontent brewed within him, threatening to spill over into reckless actions.

Braze fought the urge to climb the walls, a literal manifestation of his desire for freedom of movement. Pacing aimlessly only served to exacerbate his restless energy, leaving him volatile and uneasy, his demeanor tinged with irritation. Although his mental shields were taught his body language spoke volumes.

"That's good," Valery said when he mentioned that he felt prepared. As far as she was concerned, Padawans weren't meant to be thrown into war. Not during the battles themselves, but their role in the aftermath should be limited and monitored by their Masters as well. Too much of it could be traumatic, but each Jedi was different. The best judge of character for Padawans were their Masters.

She'd trust them to look after their students.

"Just know that even if you're prepared, you're a Padawan yourself. There's no shame in having to take steps back or feeling as if something is too much for you." He was strong, kind, and being trained properly, but he was also very young. The things that Jedi were exposed to during times of war were beyond what most kids should ever encounter.

"As for me," Valery chuckled. "I'm doing alright, but between the baby and this war, I'm quite tired." Little Eryx was waiting for her at home, and he didn't like it when his Mom was away for too long.

Even exhausted and late at night, she'd make the trip back for him.
