SPECIAL FEATURES
STRENGTHS
  • Built To Last: A testament to Samuel's methods, the suit itself is streamlined and robust. While it may not look it, it's equivalent to a good handful of military-grade armors, and is durable against a variety of attacks and situations, sticking to his usual preferred 'Jack-of-all-Trades' style. There are a variety of durable plate carriers spread throughout the body, though the suit mostly obscures that.
  • Discrete: An assassin's dream, this lightweight suit has practically no indication it is anything asides from standard formal attire that a bartender would wear to work, even to scanners (Granted, rather fancy attire compared to slum-like areas, and the belt is visible). So long as you aren't carrying anything excessively bulky, it'd be difficult to tell this dapper-looking suit is meant for combat in the slightest.
  • Force Sensitive? Where?: A gift from Samuel in their first few meetings, Ela typically wears the Taozin Amulet at all times - though it doesn't look like most to give such a thing away. This renders her force sensitivity practically impossible to perceive, and thus, equally makes it practically impossible to read her mind with mentalism, sense intentions, or influence it. Can't mess with what you can't see is there, can you?
WEAKNESSES
  • (Still) Missed a Spot: In the end of the day, a suit cannot quite match the all-encompassing protection of a suit of armor. Not every place is going to be protected by a concealed plate, leaving noticeably less-defended openings where an opponent would instead have to contend with the base armorweave and any underlays. Additionally, despite using Force-Dead materials, they were applied in such a way that maximizes protection against elements, and less so the force.
  • Material Survives, You Won't: A handful of different weaponry, the materials themselves would fair decently well against, but doesn't do so well at shielding the wearer from their effects. Hence, its best to pair this with an underlay that rectifies these weaknesses. That is, if you were gearing up for a fight.
  • Civilian-Grade: As per Ela's request, and to some of Samuel's dismay, there are less plate carriers and defenses compared to Samuel's suit. Ela is, after all, a civilian - though he could convince her with the right turn of events to wear protection more akin to his.
DESCRIPTION

After Ela's first suit was unceremoniously ruined for a while, Samuel had already prepared a matching pair which had come to evolve over time, as with how he usually operates. Ela protested something so formal-looking, but he insisted she have it regardless.

Wanting to get as much protection and utility as possible, while still remaining presentable in the event he had formal events the pair were occasionally hired for, or more high-end bars to bartend down the line, he opted for a micronized mesh of Duranium - simple, and able to comfortably deal with most threats. He later added Norris Root Dye, giving the suits their iconic crimson appearance. While this was a great basis, he knew it would never be enough to just keep it to that - he's encountered too many individuals with slugthrowers, lightsabers, and other such weaponry in his work to be satisfied with the armorweave. Thus, he crafted vests that visually appear to be standard formal vests, but in reality are durable plate carriers -- laid out in similar manners to most armor sets. The full set of carriers tries to cover as much surface area of his body as it can without inhibiting mobility, or sticking out too much from his suit. This necessitated the use of incredibly strong, yet light materials that were flexible enough for his liking - hence the use of Phrik-A and Duraplast-E composite plates.

Unlike Samuel's vest, Ela's typically forgoes much of the equipment he has. She doesn't have much training, nor experience like he does, so it ultimately doesn't make too much sense to be carrying around the arsenal he does constantly. Still, he gets a bit nervous with her having a fair bit less plate carriers than him, though he doesn't openly protest the decision. Instead he just fitted in a few extra ones where he could. You'd be surprised how many people aim at the bartender, which is more than enough reason for him to worry.

“A good Hunter doesn't need to be Heartless.”
-
Samuel Exel

    • Samuel Gorian was born on the poverty-stricken streets of Ord Mantell, to Victor and Helena Gorian. It could’ve been considered a miracle the mother survived the operation, what with rampant infection and little-to-no medical supplies present except what scraps they could afford. To say the least, life in the slums left much to be desired, living in a poorly insulated shack in the slums more akin to a hound-house than a home meant for human life. His parents attempted their best to provide a semblance of a normal life, though they could only do so much when they could barely live for themselves, let alone a child. Living day-to-day on scraps, from petty thievery to low-paying jobs of whomever would be willing to pay, he was little more than gutter trash. Such a role in society does wonders to foster a desire for more.

Nearing the age of 13, he encountered his first example of bounty hunting when he was running through the pockets of drunken patrons in a cantina. To some, it was an act to turn your head from, to ignore and abhor later. For Samuel, he could not help but to watch the violent scuffle between a brutish hunter and his quarry. And the proclamations of credits, bounties, and glory, only served to fill his mind with the idea of opportunity. He grew enamored with the idea of Bounty Hunting: travelling from world to world, tracking down a target for what could be hefty sums of credits that he would otherwise likely never see in his life -- and that was just from one bounty. He could only imagine what it would be like for two, or three...or as many as he could get his hands on.

A few years pass, where he did nothing but dream for this opportunity, and worked tirelessly for it. Scrounging in the dirt and muck for what could be broken tech, old droids, components - what else could he have done? He quickly became proficient in dismantling the remnants of technology he found and scavenging, picking apart the valuable and the old from the waste of the world and turning it into profit. Or, what he could being but one boy in the grand scheme of things. What he sold mostly consisted of droid parts, odds and ends, and scrap. It was tedious, but with an end-goal in mind, he tirelessly worked.

Getting closer to the milestone of young adulthood, he made the [rash] decision to leave the planet with a cheap blaster and his wits the moment he could afford it, leaving his family behind in the process in the hopes of earning a better life for them all. Then again, he did not have to pay as much to stowaway on a ship to Nar-Shaddaa, what he had come to know as a ‘Hunter’s Paradise’ from the gossip he had gathered from the cantina. A hive of scum and villainy, but that only meant a more bountiful opportunity for him. Once arrived, he tried and failed to obtain any bounties. After all, who would be willing to hire a two-bit kid with a blaster? This was when he came to the realization that experience triumphs over all, and he began to actively participate in pseudo-mentorships, participating in mercenary crews and bounty squads alike (typically as a technician for equipment) in desperate attempts to gain what he did not have. It was through this he went through a good few years, going from surprisingly pleasant co-workers to the more unsavory scum that one would typically expect in the line of business. Regardless, he learned from a varied crowd: some ex-military, a sparse Mandalorian out for themselves, brutes and outlaws alike that would make the dirtiest plays to win. It contributed to the necessary field-expertise and only served to further his drive to pursue what he desired - wealth.

With the much better earnings of his handful of years spent in crews, he was finally able to pursue a career as a bounty hunter he had dreamt of. It was much cheaper, and more satisfying to buy and assemble his own equipment, where his time spent around the equipment of others aided him and gave him the pointers necessary to undergo the process of forging a crude armor of cheap Durasteel, and add some more mainstream modifications to his blaster pistol. It was here he finally began to gain traction as a Bounty Hunter. The remnants of his earnings were sent to a surprised Victor and Helena Gorian, though Samuel stoically refused to contact them further for fear of linking him back to them. He continued to send them funds anonymously throughout his career that he had, in the end, undertaken for their sake. These transfers were done untraceably - not even he knew where his parents were, and he thought it better that way in case someone attempted to leverage them against him.
      [--End of Pre-RP Story--]
Anything for the right price was his policy. He quickly grew a reputation for it within Criminal Circles and the Outer Rim's Bounty Hunter Guild Chapter (Particularly around Tatooine), under the short name of 'Gorian' - ruthless efficiency, no questions asked, from bounty hunting to smuggling, he would do it. It was also apparent he held the idea that the armor was his identity, and he never needed to take it off - going to great lengths to conceal how he looked underneath, and his formal identity. Over time, he garnered the attention of more prosperous individuals, larger bounties - and thus his equipment got better to match. Increasingly, he grew more creative with his ideas, and studied the once-great bounty hunters of the past to the brief point of fanaticism. It was in this fanaticism he changed to a more ‘Professional’ style of bounty hunting, losing favor with some, and gaining favors with others who needed something more reliable. As such, this fanaticism developed a sense of honor, to an extent - he could still be swayed by exorbitantly high amounts.

    • At the mid-point of his career, a particular high-risk bounty on a Jedi had radically changed the man, bringing his worldview crashing down. It is unknown what caused this, but it is known the Jedi escaped from his clutches, and many believe that he let this Force-Sensitive get away under unfortunate circumstance. This failure, and his refusal to pursue the bounty further, tarnished his reputation. Regardless of the details of what occurred, the Hunter found himself no longer taking most bounties that commonly resided in the Outer Rim, instead opting for Bodyguard and Security work. Despite this, he managed to restore his reputation as he found himself to be incredibly proficient in his new chosen niche - finding a bountiful amount of employers, including those who previously employed him. Most prominent of which was a proliferate Hutt Cartel operating on Tatooine, and a Merchant Transportation group.

Being known to interfere with much of the Cartel's Assassination plots by allowing his contracts to be universally buyable, they gave him a long-term employment offer as a Bodyguard for a cantina they had in the area (of which was known to be abnormally violent) as a way to buy him off. With the generous long-term pay, he accepted, practically coming into something of a pre-paid retirement.

It was during this equivalent of paid retirement that gave Samuel Gorian some solace, and time for reflection. Interacting with nosy patrons who wondered about his armor, charming smugglers who were surprisingly friendly, and the often brawl he would subdue to protect others shaped his current personality. He no longer had a need to provide for his family, he had plenty enough as is. It took a while for it to sink in, that because of this, he no longer needed to be ruthless and cold. And it was around this time that he met Ela Exel, an underpaid Pantoran bartender at this cantina he oversaw. Their first encounter was cleaning up after a fight, in which Samuel offered to help in cleaning up a body. From there, they spoke more regularly, and she turned into what was considered his first true friend. Whenever the opportunity appeared from a lack of patrons, they would move to the sides and have chats over the counter - how their days were, what it’s like to be the other, and other such small topics. It did not take one long to find out the other was force-sensitive by association with certain patrons she was keeping hidden from prying eyes. Despite his distaste for Force Sensitives, it did little to affect his perception of her. Samuel would often have to keep Ela’s from harm’s way - be it the wrath of drunken patrons or other such psychopaths who frequented the rowdy place. It was to his surprise she attempted her best to reciprocate such provided safety - as silly as it looked for a bartender to be shielding the heavily armored individual from aggressors. He began to grow fond of her when she more actively tried to make sure he was doing fine in both mental and physical aspects, but believed himself to be unworthy of such a companion. He counted himself lucky to be their friend - to be anything more was but a lofty dream.

    • Ironically, a majority of the hierarchy of this Cartel died in a single day, by the hand of an especially skilled and feared Assassin Droid. This left Samuel without a his long-term retirement, but he was fine with such - he uptook Bartending as a side-gig, in addition to his Mercenary work to provide for the both of them. It was after this point, strangely enough, a friend of Ela sent her off to a fancy resort on Naboo, as a form of stress relief. Given the type of people to frequent the place, and how out-of-element Ela would be, Sam chose to accompany her. It was here where she first made it apparent that she was equally as fond of him, much to his surprise, with a mutual confession shared by a riverside. After what felt like ages of knowing the other, they formed a formal relationship. For Sam, he had never been happier, though he was incredibly wary having such a thing with his profession and past. After some time, he forsook his armor, and his helmet in front of another for the first time in years (though, he did the latter for Ela prior, when she made him a meal in private).

Perhaps from the euphoria of experiencing such a thing for the first, and confident it would be the only time, they were married not long after. It was a private affair on the very same planet they confessed to each other on, proposing by the same exact place they did so. Samuel took Ela’s last name, Exel, during marriage, due to a desire to take on this new life wholeheartedly, and leave their previous ideologies as 'Gorian,' behind. Gorian, the Hunter, faded into obscurity, with most being unawares as to the identity of the bartender due to the radical difference in perceived personalities. Taking on a new style that combined the new with the old, he resolved to be something of a ‘Freelancing Bartender’ alongside his wife. He assumes his parents have made good use of the large portion of money he has given them over the years, and hopes they are living life as lavishly as they deserve. Samuel Exel still carries their past with them, but he has found it comes in handy given how some places are. Thus, their re-entrance into the galaxy at large begins, with the pair arriving to Coruscant to take up a certain Job Offer after sending out their resumes.

      ⨹ There and Back Again:
Samuel was formerly a Bounty Hunter, now an experienced re-emerging one, with a healthy pool of credits to provide for his new life, and the experience to boot - though his identity was meticulously hidden in preparation for an eventual permanent retirement. Much of his training routine was inspired by Mandalorian mentors and the culture's practices. In fact, it's likely one might be surprised at the amount of know-how he has when it comes to combat, even against Force-Sensitives. As such, he has a good handle when it comes to combat, along with the usage of a variety of weaponry and other such offensive items. However, he may not be as skilled when he faces off against the more fanatical practitioners of hand-to-hand and close-quarters combat.

      xp52vTU.png
      ⨹ Powertech Engineer:
While a large portion of bounty hunters are chalked up to brutes with guns, Sam has the mechanical know-how to surpass pointing and shooting a gun. Born out of a desire to remain mostly independent in their line of work, they even went so far as to create their own technology and forge their own armor - oftentimes they rely on technology to give them the edge in a particularly nasty fight. He typically opts for what is considered by the Bounty Hunting Community as 'Powertech' - unique and experimental (often prototype) equipment, usually of custom design that differs from individual to individual. These designs are often inspired by pre-existing equipment, just with some added flair and personal preferences. He also dabbled a tad with droids, though his designs when it comes to such are not nearly as elegant nor refined as others. They continue to practice this craft to this day, both as a hobby and to prevent unnecessary trouble in his new job. Oftentimes, Samuel uses the vast amount of options provided to him by technology to adapt to many a situation, or otherwise find a solution to a situation he faced and struggled with. They frequently browse the HoloNet, if only to know what equipment's out there, and how to recognize it. It helps to know thy enemy, as they say.

      EGfzlCJ.png
      ⨹ Ex Force-Sensitive 'Hunter':
Considered a niche specialization within Bounty Hunting by most, Samuel often found himself at odds with deranged, exiled, and particularly aggressive force sensitives of incredibly varied walks of life, either during Bodyguard or Hunter work. After having to engage them multiple times, he eventually came to rough understandings of how to recognize and deal with the Force abilities he typically had encounters with - reaping the profitable benefits of doing so. This was, and is, mostly done through his understandings of technology. However, he is largely unexposed to more exotic or niche uses of the Force.

    • BrRgZ3r.png
      ±
      Complicated Moral Compass:
In stark contrast to his younger self, he has a far stronger moral compass. While he can come off as gruff or intimidating, he is good-willed at heart, and shies away from particularly devious activities. Yet, at the same time, he is willing to undertake others depending on their value to him - either in credits, or whatever sense of justice he has. This clashing of ideologies and past values make his decision-making process sometimes unpredictable, or hypocritical. Regardless of this, he tries to do what he can to help in whatever way he sees fit.

      haP2vFa.png
      ±
      Thrill Seeker:
To this day, Samuel struggles with the habit of thrill-seeking. This usually classifies as 'Bounty Hunting' or other such contractual-based activities, as it used to be his old way of letting off steam. With his new supposed domestic lifestyle, that is difficult to maintain without complications, as he can still be motivated by credits - but it is helpful for clearing rust and obtaining large boosts to income.

      t5wJxI5.png
      ± Individualist:
Given past experiences and his natural wariness, Samuel dislikes being tied down by any one specific avenue of work, affiliation, or otherwise. He values his ability to choose for himself what to do, and would fight tooth and nail if anyone were to try to take that from him unwillingly. This makes it somewhat difficult for him to involve himself with certain groups or people, as interactions with him can sometimes be sporadic or inconsistent. At the same time, it is helpful if said group were to suddenly collapse, as he would be able to go about his business with one of the other options kept at his disposal. This is not to say he views any of these groups as disposable, he just likes to have a contingency plan.

    • 8sW6u05.png
      ⨺ All for One:
A strong moral compass means that Samuel is often merciful, perhaps detrimentally so at times. This fluctuates greatly depending on the crime, but regardless he finds himself growing more averse to senseless violence. In addition, he is unlikely to share his burdens, and can at times be overprotective of innocents, or those he cares about.

      HE47F7U.png
      ⨺ Weighed Conscious:
His time as a bounty hunter is at times one of his biggest regrets. A cold, ruthlessly efficient mercenary is not what one would imagine when they see or speak with Sam, but the idea he may once again be perceived as such nonetheless haunts him. While he does ponder of dipping his toes back in his old profession, he by no means wants to be the same as he was before.

      Z39ojWR.png
      ⨺ Paranoia:
Outwardly, Sam can come off as a relaxed individual. However, the instincts they have tuned over the years entered into a much more sociable atmosphere does not mix well. Anyone could be a threat, a potential assassin lying in wait, whether they look it or not. It takes a handful of conditions for Samuel to ever truly feel ‘safe’. It is the titular reason why he attempted to take as much of his old equipment with him in his new career as possible. To an extent, this has served to help him deal with threats, but it can be straining on a mental state.

      dhLgi5n.png
      ⨺ Force-Sensitive Bias
: Ironically, Sam has a deep-seated mistrust of any and all things pertaining to the force. He does not understand the deeper workings of the Force or have a full understanding of a Force Sensitive's arsenal pertaining to it, but has found it to (MOSTLY) be associated with only bad things because it's practically the only thing he's seen done with it - nigh instantaneous crushing of one's windpipe comes to mind.

      fE1nLqj.png
      ⨺Mandalorian Bias
: Though Samuel once partook in and enjoyed the culture, as well as borrowed ideas and armor designs from it, Mandalorians and their culture have since been fouled in his mind after numerous encounters with violent, bloodthirsty Mandalorians. While he does not like to judge books by their covers, the selective planetary genocide on Lyran he escaped from was the last straw. He is unlikely to easily trust Mandalorians of any kind of calibe, and Samuel will (at the very least initially) be very wary with any of these individuals, (namely if they are from the Enclave) until they give him a reason for him to believe otherwise.

  • Alignment: Neutral Good.

Having once led a cold, emotionless life that eschewed morals for the sake of efficiency, most folk who know 'Samuel Exel' will find a mild-mannered, reserved man who commonly works as a Bartender. He is rarely spoken to outside of his job, unless you have already spoken to him a couple times before, as the man holds a wary demeanor when it comes to such. Paranoid of comeuppance for a brutal past life, Samuel has difficulty expressing himself at first to most people he interacts with for the first time. He prefers to make careful observations before taking steps, though at times they can come off to be intrusive or nosy.

Friends of the man, of which he holds few due to how he acts initially around new folk, would find a kind-hearted and compassionate individual with plenty more to say than one would assume. Be it to strangers or those acquainted to him, he often tries to help where he can, either with select few words of advice, or more prolonged discussions that his advice might be able to suit. His patience is surprisingly large at times, with his previously short temper having been cooled by the time spent in reflection whilst Bartending.

Those who know 'Gorian,' the Bounty Hunter alias he typically goes as, will find an efficient and passionate Mercenary, with a fairly obvious disregard for the Bounty Hunter's code regarding 'Acquisitions' having bounties, not people. He is driven, determined, typically motivated by a sense of justice or moral code that the man himself cannot always pin down. Of course, he is also motivated by credits, but this is mostly for the sake of being able to provide for himself and his family, of which he holds dearest to himself. Good-willed at heart, Samuel attempts to aid where he can, in ways he sees fit, making him at times unpredictable with his decisions. This is accentuated with how he typically never fully ties himself to any specific group or affiliation. He attempts his best to read between the lines of many of the situations he finds himself in, and is typically far more merciful compared to his peers of whatever battle he finds himself in. Manage to invoke his ire, however, and opponents will find a fierce and versatile foe, dogged in his resolution for whatever that moment might hold.
