SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Stormbatons (or Stormpikes, as larger variants are designated) are telescoping (able to slide into itself for storage) rods designed to serve as both melee and ranged weaponry. Stormbatons are around the length of a human forearm while Stormpikes tend to be at least as long as an average arm, with most being comparable to or longer than Force Pikes. Listed below are their various modes.
    • Nonenergised: Exactly what it says; strikes with as much force as the user puts behind it. Unlike the following, its ability to block other weapons depends solely on the strength of the materials used. (Energised can block lightsabers but it drains the power crystal.)
    • Energised, Low: Stun setting; mixture of electrical shock and stun energy. Can carry through certain armours, very rarely lethal.
    • Energised, High: Lethal setting; electrical shock and heavily augmented kinetic force applied on impact. Effective against armour.
    • Energy Bolt, Stun: Bolt of electricity and stun energy, resembles a blue-white arc of lightning. Sounds like a soft electrical hum.
    • Energy Bolt, Lethal: Bolt of volatile energy, scorches and disintegrates. White-blue arc that sounds like a thunderous crack.
STRENGTHS
  • Versatile Design: Stormbatons are equally usable in both ranged and melee combat, affording users a distinct advantage in close-quarters combat compared to foes forced to swap weapons in the heat of combat; lethal and nonlethal* modes are available at range and up close.
WEAKNESSES
  • Alien Design: Stormbatons are incompatible with most attachments, are held differently from most other ranged weapons (requiring training or experience to compensate), and are powered by crystals that are far harder to swap in combat than, say, power cells.
DESCRIPTION
Innovative new batons incorporating the functions of a pistol holstered at the hip of a police officer, ornate staffs adorned with gilded runs held aloft by the honour guard accompanying a showy emissary - Stormbatons/pikes are this and more, running the gamut from ridiculously gaudy to boringly practical and taking forms that range from small sidearms to hefty weapons of war and intimidation.

These weapons have become closely associated with Greystone's Grey Ones, with warriors often carrying a Stormpike or a Stormbaton and shield combination, while support personnel limit themselves to a holstered Stormbaton. The standard variant is easy enough to get one's hand on, though the rarer elite variant may require certain connections. Not to mention a greater expense, as songsteel and cortosis are both famously expensive.

*Serious complications are slightly rarer than with conventional stun weapons, but they may occur. Dizziness is common.
