- Ion turbines are air-breathing. As the bike moves forward, atmospheric gases are rammed in and compressed. The compressed gas is then bombarded with energy (from the FAE/G-01 and the ultracapacitor banks), stripping electrons and turning it into a hot, electrically charged plasma. From here, magnetic fields accelerate this plasma out the rear nozzles at extremely high speed, producing thrust.
- The FAE/S-17 Active Airflow Management System can project a pressor field directly in front of the bike's intakes when in thin, low-density atmosphere. This acts like an invisible, forced-air scoop. It pulls the sparse, thin-atmosphere molecules together, artificially compressing and densifying the air before it even reaches the physical intake.

An advanced, ultra-modernized version of the Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War-era 74-Z Speeder Bike, the FAE/74-Z Advanced Interceptor Speeder Bike was designed roughly 900 years later by First United Astral Engineering. Like its ancient predecessor, the FAE/74-Z is designed chiefly as a combat reconnaissance vehicle, with additional capabilities in area-denial, deep-penetration, pursuit, and interdiction.
The FAE/74-Z takes full advantage of many of First United Astral Engineering systems. The most notable of these is the FAE/S-17 Active Airflow Management System, which virtually negates drag and ensures a perfect laminar airflow around the bike for stable handling at speed. This system also gives the bike virtually unprecedented maneuvering capabilities, making the FAE/74-Z incredibly lethal in speeder bike or light repulsorcraft dogfights.
The FAE/74-Z enjoys excellent tactical and strategic mobility. Pertaining to both, the air-breathing ion turbines and the ultra-high-output FAE/G-01 Hypermatter Synthesis Engine allow for indefinite range in a standard atmosphere. The bike can hold long, high-speed patrols or cross-continent (and even cross-oceanic) journeys, often being more limited by the rider’s endurance.
In all, the FAE/74-Z Advanced Interceptor Speeder Bike is hoped to give Imperial remnants an ultra-lethal, ultra-fast multi-role combat reconnaissance platform, allowing Imperial speeder bike pilots to enjoy significant advantages over their opposition.
