OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION
  • Military Base Name: Crownward Station
  • Classification: Naval and Air Support Base
  • Location:
    • Venir, within the Kuat Sector, due to the planet being one of the primary waystations for freighters and other traffic heading towards Kuat itself. The base is only a twelve-minute hyperspace jump from Kuat itself as freighters fly, with more advanced hyperdrives able to make the trip even quicker. This allows Aurora Industries a close, but not obtrusive, facility to begin projecting influence and control within the sector itself.
  • Affiliation: Aurora Industries
    • While the base is operated by Aurora Industries in a joint agreement with the Kuati government, the base is also subject to the jurisdiction of whichever galactic power controls the Kuat Sector. At present, base forces would be available for use by the Sith Covenant per authorization and agreement from Aurora executives.
  • Population: Moderate
    • The base is home to roughly 20,000 support personnel, along with a large detachment of Aurora Industries Security Force troopers, marines, and pilots for the various small craft squadrons and other naval vessels stationed at the base, with their compositions detailed below in the Security section.
  • Demographics:
    • As the base was established in the Kuat sector, the vast majority of personnel, roughly 90 percent, seen at the facility would be Humans of Kuati and Balmorran descent. However, a scattering of other Human cultures from the Core and Colonies would be present, such as from Corellia or Commenor, especially among the pilots stationed there. The remaining 10 percent of the facility personnel are a mix of Duros, Mirialians, and other Near Humans, such as Echani and Arkanians.
  • Accessibility:
    • While the facility was certainly not designed to be any sort of clandestine base, Crownward Station itself is strictly guarded and open only to authorized personnel or visitors for operational security reasons. Base Command staff must sign off on any visitors to the facility or leave by base personnel to travel to other locales for shore leave, and a strict perimeter is maintained, both on the ground by patrolling troopers and drones and in the skies and space above by the base's fighter squadrons. Unauthorized visitors are detained and extradited to Kuat itself for trespassing onto a military base.
  • Description:
    • Desiring a defensible position that would be naturally resistant to counterattacks from pirate or other hostile forces, only part of the base, styled in modern Kuati and Core World architecture, is visible to outside observers. The portions visible are external docking bays for corvettes and frigates, the bay doors and launch tubes for the small craft hangers, along with service walkways and storage facilities for drydock and repair equipment. The vast majority of the base was carved into the rock of a cliff where many of the personnel live, with the primary facilities protected by reinforced structures and granite within a planned maze of service tunnels, storage facilities, hangar and repair facilities, a command center, and living quarters for all base personnel. A landing pad is also positioned above the base for visitors or if more space is needed for larger naval vessels, with several differing sizes of turbolifts leading to and from the main facility.
POINTS OF INTEREST
  • Command and Control Center
    • The nerve center of Crownward Station, the command and control center is embedded deep within the base and is a constant hive of activity as the Base Command Staff organizes patrols and escorts for the various freighters and ships entering and exiting the Kuat Sector.
  • Surface Landing Pad
    • A landing pad connected to the main facility that allows for larger vessels from the Crownward Station Naval Squadron to land on the surface and for authorized visitor shuttles and transports.
  • Internal Fighter Hangars
    • The hangar bays that house the Crownward Station Air Wings are connected to the cliffside bay doors and launch tubes by a series of service turbolifts. If the cliffside doors are blocked or damaged, emergency launch tubes are concealed and connected to the hangars at the lowest part of the cliff.
  • External Naval Docks
    • Arranged on the cliffside of the naval base, eight naval docks rotate resupply and repair duties for the Crownward Station Naval Squadron of frigates and corvettes.
  • Munitions Storage
    • Deep in the facility are the various storage rooms and chambers for the munitions, spare parts, and other components needed to maintain the fighters and naval squadron.

SECURITY
Security Rating: High

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

As Aurora Industries began to tentatively expand into the Core Worlds under the control of the Sith Covenant, the authorities on Kuat had encountered a problem. An increase in pirate activities had been reported in the nearby Humbarine system, and some pirate attacks had struck freighters and other traffic within the sector. Sensing an opportunity to ingratiate themselves with the Kuati government, Aurora Industries executives offered to establish a naval base of their security forces in the sector to assist with dealing with these pirates and potential other hostile forces.

Selecting Venir as the site for the naval base due to its close proximity to Kuat itself and it being one of the major staging grounds for their supply convoys, once permission had been granted by the Kuati government and the Sith Covenant, construction of Crownward Station began. The base was built in a cliffside for protection against enemy attacks and was stationed with a significant number of squadrons and naval ships for the escort duties they had volunteered for. While the pirates had been designated the primary reason for the deployment, it was not lost on either the Kuati or Aurora Industries that it was also an indicator for further Aurora expansion into the Core Worlds.
