- Designed as an escort craft for larger vessels or small task forces, the Orran-class has an extensive array of defensive weapon emplacements, even more than its predecessors. Making use of many of the company's new weapon systems, and one of their last generation experimental weapons, the Orran is a nightmare for enemy starfighters and attacks.
- In a vast improvement over the previous models, the Orran has an expanded hangar bay that can house three squadrons of starfighters and a whole squadron of support craft such as shuttles and dropships.
- The Orran is equipped with the same type of defenses as an Anubys Heavy Corvette, upscaled to a frigate class, and giving it a higher degree of durability than its predecessors.
- While the Orran has an extensive defensive weaponry system, the ship has absolutely no offensive weaponry on its own. It has to rely on the firepower of the ships it is escorting, and the fighter squadrons it carriers to engage enemy forces.
- The crystal matrix that acts as the heart of the Maelstrom system, if damaged, will immediately kill the system and it will be unusable until a new one is installed.
The fifth warship designed for Aurora Industries' Phase III modernization program, the Orran-class Escort Frigate is intended to replace the obsolete Sentinel-class and aging Protector-class frigates for anti-starfighter and escort duties. Moving away from the shared ship frame that the Aureal and Protector had, the new vessel is 350 meters long, a larger vessel than its two predecessors, but new capabilities have made it far superior to them. The frigate is equipped with an extensive array of defensive weaponry, most of it utilizing the company's third generation weaponry with one exception, along with a Maelstrom targeting system to help the gunnery crews deal with enemy attack craft and ordinance.
The hull plating of the Orran utilizes the dual layer of neutronium enhanced durasteel and single layer turadium as some of the other bulkier ships designed by the company during their new program and is equipped with a dual-layered deflector shield system. Perhaps the greatest enhancement over its predecessors is the vastly expanded hangar bay, allowing the ship to act as a light escort carrier with three squadrons of attack craft and capacity for a whole squadron of support craft.
