Public Walks of Life - Ithorian Herdship Festival [Coruscant]

Inanna took another salad bowl for herself and sat down with Serena secured in her lap. Serena kept smiling up at her, enjoying her snacks. Now she was being cute, it was impossible to be mad at her about the wooden effigy.

"Anything else you wanna see? I know they've got those planet domes. Or we could just find a nice park or something around here."

Inanna blinked. She had become lost in thought again. "Sorry, got distracted. I want another one of these," she said, gesturing to Serena. "And uh, yeah. Some place with a flower garden would be nice."

"There are no people in this galaxy that can put as much expectation on us as ourselves, that's for sure." He chuckled, glancing to Valery for a moment. His smile tightened a little as he instead reached out to gently touch her shoulder. Squeeze.

"That's never been a thought in my mind. Now, lets go see those other Biodomes, yeah?"

"It is my duty to be better." Colette somewhat reiterated her stance. Valery had heard that very sentence over and over again, for better or worse. "But yes, I have heard that I shouldn't set such high goals for myself."

Still, there was no denying that it had worked. At least so it felt like to Colette. She just had to look at her arms and legs — her whole body, really — in order to see that she had changed since she first arrived. Even if the first few weeks of rambling and stuttering set a low bar, she had since picked it up and thrown it far.

"We should take time to visit the real places that these domes are built to mimic." Colette mused out loud. "No steel structures, not another person except for the group… Just us and the wide open plains and forests."

Valery smiled at the squeeze of her shoulder and nodded before turning back to Colette. When Valery was younger herself, she was similar in how she pushed herself to always do better and be better. It took her a long time to adjust that mentality, so she wasn't bothered by it all that much.

As Colette's Master, she'd just have to keep an eye out and make sure she never pushed herself too far.

"Well," Valery then began as Colette mentioned visiting the real places. "Some of these biodomes are of planets that were destroyed, such as Panatha we visited earlier. Others are of planets that may have been greatly scarred in war as well."

After walking over to the biodomes, Valery stopped at the entrance of the Jedha one and looked over her shoulder. "Could we go into this one?" She didn't explain it, but she had been at the battle there right after she returned to the Jedi. It's where she had nearly died in an explosion of an SIA Blacksite.

But Kahlil, who had fallen to the Dark Side at the time, had saved her life.

Cato had walked a few steps ahead, then turned around and waited awkwardly for Inanna to respond. She responded with her demands, and he blinked at the unexpected nature, "Oh," They'd talked about it before, but didn't really have the time or stability to commit. He looked around for a flower garden, and saw a space where the streets transitioned into a small green space beside the reservoir lake.

"Over there," Cato nodded in the direction, and began cutting through the crowd. He settled beside a tree, and the requested flower garden, patting a space for Inanna to sit beside him. He studied her curiously for a moment, "What uh, what made you bring that up?" He chuckled a bit awkwardly. It's not that he was against the idea of a second kid, but he was trying to pry for what else was seemingly going on in her mind.

Serena was immediately fascinated by the colorful flowers. Inanna led her over to touch and smell them, telling her their colors and names.

"What uh, what made you bring that up?"

That was sorta meant as a joke, honey,” Inanna said, snorting as she sat down. “But I mean, just look at her. Isn’t she lovely?

Serena was smooshing her face into a rose. Tiny fingers clung to petals that came off in her hands, which she toddled over to present as soft red offerings to her seated parents. She went back and forth like that, picking flowers to give to them and stomping with excitement.

"That Keshiri woman... speaking the language again reminded me of my son," Inanna admitted, leaning her head against her hand. "Maybe I am a little eager. I'm not a first time parent like you, so I don't have the same fears and uncertainty holding me back. And with all the star wars ending, it seems like the perfect time. But I can wait, don't worry."

I am pleased that my guide is so humble. And he gives me plenty of time to take a look around. I follow him down the stones steps and am taken aback as I am given a coat and gloves. They are a lot thicker and heavier than what I am used to. New Cov is a hot and humid planet making it a perfect atmosphere for the jungle to thrive. To be within a cold environment is beyond strange to me.

The coat seems to envelop me entirely as I put it on and I am ever so glad that I close it up first before I put on the gloves. And the moment that we step into the biodome my breath is held as the cold air hits me. And when I release it I can actually see it like a fog! "Incredible!" I laugh in spite of myself only to see more bits of fog in front of me.

My eyes soon gaze past the fog and onto the mesa. I lead the way and not with hurried steps. The cold seems to tighten my muscles, however I am very thankful for the coat! "Is it always like this here? Is it always so cold?"

I just wonder how far it will go. I see no end to it with my own eyes and I wonder if that is perhaps an illusion. I find myself drawn to the buildings. They mean shelter and can provide some warmth. And I wonder just how the stonework is carved, not to mention how detailed it may be. Surely the stonemasons found it difficult to work in this kind of environment?

"…Oh," Except it wasn't completely a joke, either. As Inanna continued to talk, she spoke more of kids, including her son. Cato frowned slightly, and laid a hand on her shoulder. It was as she said— They were simply at different stages of parenthood. Cato was still a newcomer to the process. He had done quite well with Serena considering, but the idea of jumping into it a second time still had him a bit nervous. Meanwhile, Inanna already had raised kids of her own before ever meeting him. And frankly, her experience was a big part of why Cato was able to more easily adapt himself into a good parent.

"Well, now that we're a bit more settled in— And all the wars are ending, like you said— Maybe we can look into some opportunities,"
He shrugged. Serena approached with a vibrant purple flower in hand, lifting it up to her dad. He grinned and took it, giving it a smell, "Try not to dig up the whole garden, huh?" She burbled something incoherent, and picked up another flower.

"C'mere you." Inanna reached down and tucked a flower behind Serena's ear. "What do you think? You want a little brother or sister?"

"No!" Serena exclaimed adamantly.

"No? Why not?"

Serena pointed to herself. "I'm your baby."

"That's true. But we could have more."

"Uh-uh." Serena shook her head. "I don' want no more."

"You don't want to share your snacks and toys with anybody else, huh?" The sour look on Serena's face at the thought made Inanna laugh. "We'd still love you just as much as we do now, baby."

"Okay. I go play now." Serena ran off back to the flower garden, though within a few minutes she had laid down upon the grass and promptly gone to sleep.

Luxar | Klocto | Sword

“It’d make my friend’s week if y'all could sign her shirt.”

Xeno shrugged.

"Sure. Ain't that hard," he responded casually.

It was the bare minimum for devout fans, but Xeno found that signatures seemed to be very meaningful for some individuals. It was strange. Of course, he grew up Sith, forced to kill others to survive. Perhaps his perspective on the matter was just too far out there to understand the softer lifestyles of folks in the Core. It wasn't a big deal in the end of the day. Xeno took the shirt, which the young girl specified as the one she wasn't wearing (that seemed like a given), passed it around to the other bandmembers, then handed it back. Their signatures were more stylistic, with less full writing and more geometric design. Xeno's was ornate, almost floral in nature. Luxar's had more sharp angles, more like a logo then a signature. Klocto's was messy but ornate, a large K followed by a series of elaborate squiggles.

"I bet your fans really appreciate you taking the time to mingle with them like this."

"Isn't much," Xeno noted, "But people seem to appreciate the sentiment. It's good for engagement."

"And an excuse to not be antisocial," Klocto added with a smirk.

The half-Nagai sighed. That was quite true as well. He was fairly bad at interaction. Luxar insisted that this sort of thing was good for 'healing the soul,' but Xeno had his own doubts. Still, it was his friend's suggestion. so he went along with it, even if it was only out of respect.

"...Do you have an apprentice? I won't lie, I start getting all the pairings mixed up after a while."

"I do, yeah," Jasper nodded. "Two, actually. Lilise Lilise and Maran Maran . M-maybe two is a bit... ambitious, but I... Well, I couldn't turn away either of them."

The thought about how he had met the two. Accidentally, with clear overwhelming nerves and a muddled sense of place. He had sort of wound up convincing himself that he needed to see to it that they made it through their padawan trials without making the same mistakes that he did. After all...

"I saw myself in them," he admitted.

He couldn't leave them to an uncertain fate. Never having a formal master himself, Jasper was all too aware of what that could do to someone.

Pops of colour lit up the glassy ceiling for seconds at a time before sprinkling down and evaporating to nothing. Agent Cole’s bet had been well-placed. Security was stationed on every floor, and they’d been dispatched through a report that saw two hoodlums running. Suspicious activity.

One more spiralling spectacle was about to erupt when a firm hand clamped down on the juveniles, and they shrivelled away in shock. Their cacophonous back and forths were rumbles that Cordé couldn’t understand. A language she didn’t speak —

— unlike body language, which was plain and pointed, emphasised by the evaluative glint in his eyes to his question.

“You come across many agents?” Cordé tilted her head to match her crooked smile, deflecting the prodding. “You seem more like the one and done, death ‘till me ‘n my crew part type.”

Security had confiscated the explosives. No more fireworks.

“Shame, they’d been kinda pretty.” Cordé murmured absently, watching the scene unfold behind Agent Cole rather than make eye contact.

“It’s a tricky subject to be open about.” She ended up revisiting the comment-slash-question-slash-accusation. Agent Cole's story about putting down a rogue Jedi Padawan hadn't been very telling about how he felt about Jedi on the wider scale, all she had to infer was his use of claws and unperturbed retelling of the mission that demanded a firm trigger finger. Cordé's was a little more on the side of generational trauma.

She shrugged. “But we all have our reasons, one way or the other.”

Serena was quite adamant about her two cents on the matter. No chance was she sharing the spotlight with another kid. Cato couldn't help but laugh at her sternness. "Maybe you'll change your tune when you see them." The baby's attention span was short-lived on the subject anyway, and she soon fell asleep on the grass. Cato straightened up a bit to look at where she was, confirming that she was in fact conked out, "Just like that. Why can't it be as easy at home?" He muttered with a smirk, "It is pretty nice grass."

He sighed, and fell silent for a bit as he stared out at the reservoir. Families of all kinds were celebrating along the lakefront, "...Probably a lot of kids out there needing parents," Cato suddenly said, his tone difficult to discern. Given all the bloodshed that had happened in the galaxy, there were a lot of mothers and fathers who didn't make it through to the end.

"Not that I have much say in the matter."

Andrew answered without much pause to the question pointed back at him. If it weren't so true, chances were he'd probably be in some dark corner of the galaxy doing what he did best- KTF. Instead, here he was, on assignment with a fellow agent in what was to his eyes a potential liability. It was clear enough with the scuffle behind him, though in reality that was going to be a given anywhere you went in civilized space.

His attention hadn't parted from Cordé and her avoidance of the subject. Just from overhearing the dialogue, part of him had wished for his bucket to translate the language he didn't understand. Perhaps catch something interesting, like specific names or some modicum of procedure he might recognize. Without it though, he'd just garner that the juveniles were taken into custody to be escorted off the tower. If he shared the same complaint voiced at his side, he didn't voice it.

But as she revisited the topic, Cole's arms crossed over his chest as he remained in place. Despite that natural furrow the man always seem to hold, he looked as relaxed as could be. So much so that his chin jutted upwards in a nod to the woman. She showed more than she let on for him to vaguely get the idea of the topic's gravity.

"Agency's not to blame for that, though." He never really did answer the assumption she made of him. Bringing that specific point back for the fairness of her doing the same instead of ignoring it was enough for the man to share little of his plight. "Used to have a team. One thing led to another, and now I'm all that's left of everything."

There was more said than he wanted. As if underneath all the restraint and mental bearing there was a crack. A need to reach out for something to replace the hollowness of what the galaxy dealt him. It had been the closest he's talked about any notion of more than who he was to anyone. Of Dark Ops, of his team. How he really wasn't meant to belong here. As if his night terrors were beginning to have further impact beyond his sleep.

An audible exhale left Andrew's nose in a sigh. A push away from the railing and he was standing upright once more, back turned from the grand vista the height of the tower could provide. He needed a reset, already digging a hand into his coat to pull out the pack of cigarras to tug one between his lips. Besides the overt movement, his gruff nature hadn't shifted in any other degree.

"Time we move on. Power cells're draining," he resorted to as he inhaled the end of the thinly rolled paper alight. As if they had gathered all they needed from this site, and any more time spent here would be a waste to their assignment.

Or at least that was the first excuse he had in mind so far.

"Just like that. Why can't it be as easy at home?"

"Maybe we should install some grass in her room?" Inanna joked.

While Cato watched the families along the lakefront, Inanna left the bench and went over to lie on the lawn beside Serena, propping her head up on her elbow.

It’s a galaxy full of war orphans, baby. I used to cringe when I’d see people having their own kids, because that was all I could think about. Clearly I can’t adopt them all, so everyone else needs to quit pumping them out and start helping the ones already here.” She stroked Serena’s thick black hair. “But I get it now. It’s nice having kids who are like you. Easier to understand them. And at least Serena here inherited that patented Harth cuteness.

She glanced over at Cato. “What’s on your mind?” she asked.

It was a funny world, the intelligence agency. Full of half-sentences, glimmers of information and surface-level exchanges. Distrust was as much a part of M’s agents as bone and marrow.

Doubly so if an entire team had been lost.

“I’m sorry.” Cordé offered genuinely. The tightness that had wound through her while the spotlight had pointed out her anti-Jedi sentiment, loosened and relaxed to reinforce the apologetic slant of her tone.

“Last man standing’s a mixed way to be.” He didn’t ask, but she told him anyway as he lit up the cigarra: “That was me on Exegol.” And because of that, she’d failed. She hadn’t the skill to stop the self-destruct protocol of the planet’s surface. On top of that, a medic’s greatest failure was being unable to save the lives entrusted to them. She was still nursing the hurt that came with all those faults.

“Is it still fresh for you too?”

Surely, he didn't ask. Andrew didn't intend on prying more from her to get a further idea of how the agent ticked. Yet he paused at the apology, left uncertain to both why he did and how this would go. Either way, that weight in his chest still remained heavy, rooted into his ribcage and intending to stay like it usually had been since his last exit from cryo. He didn't like that.

Before Cole could interject she had said the one word- Exogel. The 'battle to end all battles', but was it really? Because sure, you weren't loading into a shuttle with rifle in hand and plated in armor to go fight on the frontlines. But where did that leave you in the aftermath when you weren't lucky, you just happened to not be a target. Sable's mission wasn't hardly as much that, but all the more deadlier. He just happened to make it out in time before the planet put his number into the after action statistic. That wasn't even going further into how that might not be the end of the wars for the galaxy.

Perhaps there were a few more similarities between them than he would've admitted to. So much so that he turned back to face her, taking almost a long drag from the thinly rolled paper betwixt his lips.

"It's... Complicated. But it doesn't really matter how fresh it is. It's not something that'll heal." Jaqu'n spoke almost with a hint of genuine intention. It wouldn't do him any good to lie, and if he were honest, he wasn't going into the truth of the details. It wouldn't do any good to share all that he's done to try and find Doomsday so far, with all results leaving him feeling the same way he did now.

"At least for your team their fate isn't left to mystery. Left standing is a whole other thing compared to being left behind."

And there it was. The implication left in the open, because truly he didn't see himself as the man left standing. Not really in a way, even if it may indeed be true to an extent. The failure wasn't in the fact he tried all he could, but that there was no position for him to have any impact whatsoever. And when you felt powerless to that degree, well.

For Sable it was a degree that he found difficult to curb.

So he had not one, but two. Amani nodded with a sense of vicarious nervousness, for a relatively young knight to take on more than a lone apprentice. But if it was working out, then all the more power to them. "Well, sounds like you were the right master for them, then. You need that drive to see it all the way through."

The mirialan ran a hand through her hair and sighed, "I just took one on. Jayce Rotsu Jayce Rotsu ." Despite her position, the Chief Healer had never really gotten the full padawan experience. She had trained students before, even started an apprenticeship with one, but it never quite lasted. There was always something else in the way, forcing them apart. "Hopefully for good. I guess I'm a little more anxious about it than I thought." Whether she was more anxious about it falling apart, or actually seeing it through, was hard to say. Not for lack of interest; But the pressure to do right by her student had a weight of its own.

"Or we can just let her sleep outside. I'm sure nothing could go wrong with that," Cato joked back. He meandered over to join his wife and daughter in the grass, plopping down cross-legged. "In my defense, that wasn't my intent— I was an irresponsible idiot," A chuckle, "She is pretty cute though."

What’s on your mind?

He shrugged, "Not much," A pause, and he smirked, "…A lot." He shook his head, "I dunno." Three different answers for the same question, none quite capturing his actual thoughts. Cato picked idly at the grass in front of him, "Just wondering what's next for us, I guess."

"She's beautiful," Inanna murmured, gazing down at Serena. For a little while all that she did was sit and watch her baby girl sleep soundly.

"Not much."

"Hm."

"…A lot."

"Hm?"

"I dunno."

"Mmhm." Inanna eyed him, waiting for more.

"Just wondering what's next for us, I guess."

"Today, or for the rest of our lives?" she asked. Was he getting existential? "Either way, I'm sure we'll have fun."
