Character Tilon Quill

NAME: Tilon (ty-lon or TY-lun) Quill, born Tilon Luken
FACTION: None
RANK: Ship captain, unaffiliated Jedi Knight, former Sith acolyte
SPECIES: Sharuka, former alchemical test subject
AGE: Adult of indeterminate age; Bowie-like
SEX: Male
HEIGHT: Average
WEIGHT: Wiry
EYES: Orange
HAIR: Reddish to purplish, typically violet
SKIN: Pale with a bluish tint
FORCE SENSITIVE: Yes, weakly*

STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES:
  • Apart from his specialization in language, Tilon is weak in the Force. Tilon considers himself more a professional spacer than a Jedi.
  • Having spent a good portion of his adult life among the Selkath, Tilon is an excellent swimmer.
  • He is visually distinctive, both by choice and biology; he just plain cannot blend in.
  • As a Sharuka, Tilon has excellent endurance and dexterity.
  • Raised primarily on the frigid worlds of Ziost, Hoth, and Pagodon, Tilon is comfortable in cold climates.
  • He has a very broad education in nonhuman Force traditions. He has a large tool kit of abilities, mostly nonlethal.
  • Due to his youth among the Sith, he is hesitant to participate in violence and not particularly good at it. He has no killer instinct and favors the defensive style called Soresu, which limits his offensive options.
  • He has a profound knack for understanding alchemy with a special aptitude for plants.
  • An independent Jedi, he has very limited connections with Jedi institutions and governments, leaving him with few options for allies, resources, and support. When he calls, few answer.
  • He speaks a small amount of many languages, and knows Outer Rim/Unknown Regions/Wild Space trade languages like Taarja, Minnisiat, Huttese, Meese Caulf, Cheunh, Rodian, Sy Bisti, and Rammocate to one extent or another. He is also quite good at Outer Rim Sign Language (ORSL). Lately he's been spending time in Herglic Space and focusing on his Herglese.
  • He has a small, low-profile Iskalloni neural implant under his hair at the nape of his neck, allowing certain kinds of cybernetic interface but vulnerable to ion weapons, electromagnetic pulses, or mechu-deru.
APPEARANCE:
Tilon is lean, colorful, quick with a grin and quick on his feet. He's sometimes kind of feathery.

BIOGRAPHY:
(Original NPC bio)
  • An orphan of the Sharuka/Outer Rim Coalition wars, Tilon was a student and occasional test subject in the Sorzus Academy from his earliest memories until age 12. When Jedi terrorists massacred the young acolytes, Tilon was one of several saved by Darth Daiara Darth Daiara and Jend-Ro Quill Jend-Ro Quill
  • Tilon became Quill's ward, Padawan and, eventually, adopted son. He spent formative years at the Hoth Enclave, the Jakku Enclave, Quill's nearby hermitage, and (after Quill broke from the Jedi) a library on Pagodon.
  • Over Quill's objections, Tilon joined the Jedi and was knighted while still a teenager. Their relationship became strained and distant.
  • Despite his best intentions, Tilon had no aptitude for being a Jedi at war. Many of his tasks involved research, and he put his broad background to use analyzing Sithspawn. On a few occasions he even managed to reverse their modifications or ensure they could live relatively normal, free lives.
  • He returned often to Ahto City and spent a great deal of time living among the Selkath. As an independent Jedi, he often served as an unofficial Jedi liaison with the Order of Shasa. He also had friends in the environmentalist movement and helped protest the construction of a megastructure for a galactic economic conference circa 900 ABY.
  • Around the same time, he joined an expedition to visit a community of Mist-Weavers on an obscure world. He became conflicted: though he had grown up collecting techniques from nonhuman Force-sensitives, a Mist-Weaver showed him how that approach, however well-meaning, had serious ethical challenges. This was a difficult time for Tilon.
  • He signed on to the extragalactic Longjumper's Mark expedition for 900-902 ABY, supporting the communications team with his ability to absorb and share languages. He ranged out from the expedition throughout the Yuuzhan Vong galaxy and returned with it to known space only reluctantly. On the expedition's return, he left the ship when it passed through Nagai space in Firefist, and he lived briefly on the Nagai colony world of Jaibrek.
  • Restless, he co-led the 'Mercy-Quill expedition' into the Rishi Maze. It broke even and everyone returned alive, but failed to reach the far side of the Maze, a great disappointment.
  • He then went out to Calimancha in Companion Grek to secure funding for another, even farther expedition. He made friends and allies around Grek, fellow wayfaring spacers. At one point he helped attack an ancient Hutt mass driver; at another point he became trapped in a sarlacc and communed with the vestigial personality of a Chiss sky-walker.
  • After his return from Grek, Tilon became affiliated with the independent enclave on Kattada, defending it, working in ship maintenance, and even teaching for the first time - small classes on speech comprehension. He also made an effort to engage in Jedi communities and visited several temples and enclaves.
  • What ended up taking his time and passion, however, was his work as a career spacer. He was present for the Grand Galactic Kaggath on Ruusan, answered distress calls, bartered salvage, captained a bulk freighter on a Lightsworn raid to steal weapons of mass destruction from the Galactic Empire and then evacuate the casualties, captained a stealth ship to save Swokes Swokes religious refugees from a Sith border world, intervened in a bounty hunt on Attahox, and returned to Vesskyzi to reconcile the local Agarian fungoids with a benevolent multispecies-transhumanist Iskalloni sect.
  • After the Galactic Empire took Coruscant and many other Core Worlds, while helping to evacuate refugees, Tilon reluctantly signed on to fly more missions for the Lightsworn.
SHIP:
Tilon has often made use of Quill's long-range shuttle, the North Ridge. As of the early 10th century, he flies the heavy freighter Wake of Balmorra.

TOOLKIT:
Tilon's lightsaber is scuffed silver, elegantly designed but not ornate. It has an amber-colored blade from its focusing crystal, which Tilon grew in a Rosé Amanecer. Due to a Sunshard ritual, the lightsaber has certain benefits on Manaan.

In his father's footsteps, Tilon grew up in eclectic and esoteric environments and has built relationships with several Force traditions. Some highlights:
  • He has the ability to acquire and instil portions of languages, which his father learned from Gutretee elders; this has been a cornerstone of his father's work. Tilon began to specialize in this ability during the Longjumper's Mark expedition. In the right circumstance, with the right willingness on the other's part and with enough time and focus, he can acquire language as permanently as any other language-learning. This ability is similar to Revan's interaction with the Rakatan language. He has also learned a Dathomiri translation technique that temporarily works in the written word.
  • He is unfortunately very familiar with Sith biological alchemy and can often speak to whether specific changes are reversible or not.
  • In small ways, he has the ability to bend probability like a Suerton gambler.
  • He knows wayfinding and instinctive astrogation, not as a specialist but at a level beyond most Jedi.
  • He is good at mental Control powers that don't require much strength in the Force, such as pain control and short-term memory enhancement.
  • Beginning in his youth, Tilon spent time learning from the Order of Shasa and the Progenitor itself on Manaan. He has spent years in close community with the Order of Shasa and knows their skillset. For example, he can channel the Progenitor's Call, an eerie and pervasive sound from faraway, to throw off enemies' focus at critical times.
  • He has basic skill with the abilities of the Mist-Weavers, the pre-Celestial Force tradition.
  • From Force practitioners among an Iskalloni sect and the Swokes Swokes Temple of the Beatific Razor, he learned a great deal about how to ease the body's acceptance of cybernetic implants.
