The War for Valen

The Story of Valen:
Valen was a world on the edge of the known galaxy, it was a world put away from war, from battle. Valen had never known fighting, had never known battle, and it had never even known the touch of the Force. For all intents and purposes Valen was a world that could be called paradise. Most of the planet was covered with water with only two central continents. These continents were populated almost to the brim with many cities of great repute. Its oceans were filled with fish and aquatic mammals and its countryside filled with all the splendor of nature.

Most of the world of Valen was wide open plains, though in the north western hemisphere there sat mountains. In the very center of the continent sat a massive desert, and in the poles there was snow. Because of the unique electrical storms that raged across Valen the planet only saw light for about three hours of its 20 hour day. This has led most of the planet's cities to be in constant darkness. By all accounts, Valen was the perfect terrestrial world with its inhabitants varied and spread out all over.

Valen had a species of unique humanoids living upon it named after their planet. The Valen were human in origin, although it is unknown how human life first made it to the planet. Regardless, the Valen have evolved over centuries to adapt to their homeworld. Their skin changed to have almost no pigment in it, their eyes adapted and were better able to see in the dark and their brains evolved to communicate with one another telepathically to aid in the darkness.

Valen's technology was on par with much of the rest of the galaxy. They created technological basics such as electricity and a working tele-communications network. The Valen created utterly unique technologies, utilizing their resources to create better more efficient versions of standar technology used throughout the galaxy. Light, however, came in the form of bio-luminescent plants; their illumination varying in colors from region to region. What the inhabitants of Valen did not have were starships.

Valen was a world covered in unique electrical storms, its upper atmosphere plagued with an almost mystic cloud of natural shielding. This natural phenomenon made it nearly impossible to develop a starship that could fly to and from the planet's surface. Even starships developed by the galaxy at large would have difficulty in surpassing the electrical storms of Valen, finding that their navigation equipment was almost useless and anything bigger than a transport would be immediately brought down by interference.

So what would bring the galaxy to this world that had for so long been unknown, unvisited? Resources. Only a month ago a Galactic Exploration Team managed to bypass the storms of Valen, landing on the paradise world's center most continent and finding a very unique radiation signature. The signature was unmistakable: Cortosis.

Valen's crust was packed to the brim with Cortosis ore. The residents of Valen had long since discovered this ore and had created technologies based off of the rare mineral. The technology of the Valen relied entirely upon Cortosis, their unique fuel generators relied on containment shields made of Cortosis, and thus without it they could not function. Uniquely the planet contained perhaps the greatest deposits of Cortosis seen anywhere in the galaxy. Word quickly spread after the Exploration Team returned from their trip, and soon the galaxy's factions were jumping at the chance to control Valen and the trove of Cortosis ore it contained.

The Event Rules:

The War for Valen will begin with every participating faction currently on the galaxy map having a “starting” point on the planetary map. From this starting point each faction will be able to do Battle threads, territory “dominions”, or “invasions” (will be explained below) to expand their territory on the planetary map. Whoever has the most territory at the end of the event wins the planet and its resource.
This will mostly be run as things are with the galaxy map. The Members and factions sort out the threads on their own with Staff intervention when necessary(I will be watching threads closely however).

Dominions: A Faction may “dominion” a nearby city by creating a thread and RP'ing the cities capture or peaceful surrender. A Dominion must be at least 100 posts and must have a minimum of 3 participating faction members. Dominions yield the city captured and a small bit of territory around said City.

Battle: Battles are the only way to capture territory without Dominion or invading a city. One faction picks a region between itself and another faction. In this region there is then a battle where the two or more factions fight. Whoever wins gains the territory of the region that the battle took place. A Battle can lead to the capture of both cities and territory. Battle threads must reach a minimum of 150 posts, with an additional 50 posts per each auxiliary faction (3 participating factions would mean 200 posts, 4 would mean 250 posts, etc...) Staff highly suggests that factions get creative with Battle threads. Battles could be almost anything found in modern and past warfare. Trench Warfare, Dogfights, artillery bombardments, tank engagements, mass lightsaber duels. Get creative! A minimum of 5 members must participate for each faction.

Invasion: Invasions are the only way to reduce the territory size of another faction on Valen. Invasions mimic the ruleset of galactic invasions however they do not need to be announced OOCly before being launched. Two factions vie for the control of a City. This RP can be anything from a siege of a city to a trench warfare outside the city to just plain urban combat already in the city, to guerrilla warfare. An Invasion must be at least 200 posts long. A minimum of 5 members must participate for each faction.
Allies do not count towards your faction member count in these threads. A maximum of 10 allies per faction may participate in invasion threads.

Yes. But minor Factions may aid major factions in those threads.

By the middle of the event a component for Minor Factions will be revealed we haven't forgotten about you guys ;)
Awesome! Us minor factions look forward to it.

  • How many NPC's can we bring? Are you expecting us to land with a Science Team? ...An Army Division? ...A Sector Fleet? ...Or every duct-taped vessel and smoking vehicle our Faction can muster? (aka Clockwork) :D
