OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION
  • Structure Name: The Spire
  • Classification: Arcology, Military Headquarters, Population Center, Strategic Defense Installation
  • Location: Atrisia
  • Affiliation: Atrisian Commonwealth
  • Accessibility: The Spire is an open city-fortress, but its access is defined by the principle of universal civic duty. As all Atrisian citizens are enlisted members of the Commonwealth military, the entire population are cleared personnel. The Spire is open to the public precisely because the "public" is the military. Entry and movement within are governed by a seamless, omnipresent biometric monitoring system. Retinal scans, genetic sniffers, and neural pattern readers at transit points and sector boundaries automatically grant or deny access based on an individual's rank, active duty status, and current threat protocols. There are no civilian areas, only zones of varying military classification.
  • Description: The Spire is the ultimate expression of the Atrisian martial ethos: a society where life and military service are one. It is a vertical city-state housing millions of citizen-soldiers and their families. Its breathtaking, palatial exterior of pearlescent Kazue Stone and Aegis composite projects an image of regal power, belying its nature as a perpetually active garrison and command center. Inside, the vast central canyon known as the Spine is a meticulously organized hive of activity, where the daily routines of life are seamlessly integrated with military readiness, all under the unblinking eye of the biometric security grid.
POINTS OF INTEREST
  • The External Walls: The Spire's exterior is with layered defenses and purpose.
    • Defensive Bubbles: The crystalline spheres are multi-layered shield generators. Their soft blue glow is a constant, visible reminder capable of weathering orbital bombardment. Biometrically-keyed control stations within each bubble allow for targeted shield modulation by authorized operators.
    • Integrated Turrets: The retracted weapon systems are made to be used with clear sitelines in the sky as well as in the streets below. They can even have long range shots at the bridge in case it is needed.
    • The Airdocks: The upper-level docks are designed for Airships to dock bringing people, supplies or other things.
  • The Interior: This is the central area and designed with an open air design. Allowing for massive sightlines, tiered firing on chokepoints and defensive capabilities. Interior parks and areas are set up for recreation and fun.
    • The Grand Atrium: This vast canyon is constantly traversed by millions. The mag-lev elevators and transit tubes require biometric authentication, automatically routing individuals to their levels. The air hums with the sound of coordinated movement rather than casual leisure.
    • Layered Society by Rank and Function:The vertical stratification is a direct reflection of hierarchy.
      • The Upper Levels: Reserved for High Command, flag officers, critical government officials, and state functions. Access is extremely restricted, even for most citizens, granted only to those with top-level clearance.
      • The Mid-Levels: The primary living and operational quarters for the majority of the enlisted population and junior officers. The plazas and markets double as mustering yards and resource distribution centers. Life here is a blend of domesticity and duty, with every citizen expected to be combat-ready.
      • The Lower Levels: Home to specialized enlisted personnel, engineers, logistics corps, and heavy industry. Biometric checkpoints here control access to power plants, water recyclers, and the entry points to the strategic depths below.
  • The Depths: The foundation of Jar'Kai's mountain spire.
    • The HUB: Designed as an interior command center and logistical hub for the city. Access is granted only to a pre-vetted list of strategic command staff and essential personnel, with biometric locks that can be rescinded in a microsecond.
    • The Sunless Sea: This subterranean dockyard services the aquatic residents of Atrisia. Entry is limited to with dockyards for some small vessels but also the enclaves and embassies for the Hangyo-Jin who have access to many of the waterways and pipes allowing them to move around the city.
    • The Smart Roads: Access to this automated logistics network is highly automated but tightly controlled. Convoys are monitored and directed by AI, with human oversight restricted to senior logistics officers whose biometrics are required to alter priority shipments or initiate strategic deployments. The roads lead to the bunkers and modules but continue throughout to the rest around the various cities.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Spire has long stood as one of the most iconic and imposing features of Jar'kai. Originally conceived as an unyielding symbol of Atrisian power and strength, the structure has been a continuous project, evolving dramatically over the centuries. Its purpose shifted fundamentally when the decision was made to decentralize the Imperial Palace. This strategic move allowed the Atrisian leadership to operate safely outside the capital during inevitable conflict, transforming the massive royal monument into a towering megablock of luxury apartments. Yet, its symbolic significance remained, and the Spire alongside Jar'kai itself continued to be a prime target for those seeking to disrupt the enduring Atrisian systems.

The most recent and significant transformation occurred in the Jishi era, following a period of devastating occupation and attack. The resulting need for resilient, high-efficiency infrastructure spurred a massive internal overhaul of the Spire. The legacy apartments were fully converted to utilize advanced living modules, integrating the latest technological achievements into the very fabric of the building. This conversion was crucial in furthering Jar'kai's commitment to post-scarcity resource abundance.

Today, the Spire functions as a zenith of Atrisian engineering. Its interior showcases the absolute cutting edge of their technological prowess, continually developed and improved to ensure that the vast majority of its citizens enjoy the highest quality of life. No longer a mere monument to past power, the Spire is a living demonstration of Atrisian resilience and their dedication to a technologically advanced, prosperous future. It would continue by many to be preconceived as the seat of the nation and power which no one on Atrisia would counter. The kazue stone design like the rest of the city would make sure it was incredibly strong to orbital bombardment and attack.
