  • Mine Name: The Shiny Mines
  • Material: Diamonds
  • Location: The Diamond Desert, Durace
  • Affiliation: Agents of Chaos
  • Size: Large
  • Population: Moderately Staffed
  • Profit: High
  • Accessibility: While the entrance to the Shiny Mines be seen from the ground and from a small distance in the air, they're not quite accessible to those who do not have special clearance from the Agents of Chaos. The entrance is guarded by both organics and droids, and several weapons exist to deter those who are too curious for their own good.
  • Description: The Shiny Mines are a series of mines close to each other in the Diamond Desert on Durace. On the outside, it looks like a well guarded entrance into a construction that goes underground. The Shiny Mines go deep underground, where Agents of Chaos workers labor daily to extract the diamonds and rare gems found. Imports of food, weapons, protective gear, and working gear are more or less constant. Diamond crates are exported at irregular intervals as well. The mines are relatively new, which makes at present still not on the super dirty and dusty side. One of the top levels of the mines, after being emptied and digging went deeper, has been converted into a small village for the miners, making sure they remain safe and well from the planet's destructive weather.

Yahalom

After the first mines were cleared, a space existed which could be used to build a small village. The village was named Yahalom, after the diamonds that could now be found mostly in the levels below. The village houses a few streets worth of middle class homes, a pub, a drug store, and an exchange students school. A few small shops exist, some for imports and some for home made goods. A small number of cattle animals that can live without sunlight exist there as well, and they are mostly free to walk around the streets, but kept away from the lower levels for their own safety.

The Shiny Mines

The Shiny Mines are a long necklace of mines that connect underground and spread deep into the planet as well as somewhat to the sides. Each section has its own name and its own dedicated team of miners that work on it, both organic and droid, to extract the diamonds and send them off to the Coins of the Scintilla. The mines are fairly new and so is the equipment, making the experience at present a mostly safe one.

For many months, it appeared that several less savory than believed accountants had wired many of the Scintilla's funds to their own purposes, taking instead large loans to continue the operation of the space construct. When those accountants disappeared, leaving the Scintilla and the Agents of Chaos in terrifying debt that included access codes to turning the oxygen systems off, solutions were needed.

For a while, the Agents of Chaos chose less than tasteful raids in order to make up for stocks, equipment, and money (one notable example being their raid of medical ships close to Silver Jedi borders), but to support a space construct with so many people and different operating parts, it was clear that it would not suffice to fill the gaps. Additionally, the danger of having the oxygen systems shut of became a tangible threat, especially after the Confederacy's cold blooded murder of millions of refugees in the HOPE sphere.

Plans were made to make up for it, using the services of InterGalactic Banking Clan as well as AvCoin, but it was quickly realized that these solutions would be temporary at best, especially with the upcoming wars that were both planned, and likely to happen despite whatever careful planning might occur. Even with the most lenient of payments, something else was needed.

It was by circumstance that Scherezade deWinter Scherezade deWinter was reminded of her own mother's actions, long before the Gulag took place. Her own mother had been the Queen of a re-emerging ancient Sith empire, and had built several mines on Durace in order to finance large portions of her kingdom. Scherezade set to check if the Diamond Desert on Durace still existed, and provided Discordia and the rest of the Agents of Chaos leaders with a business plan a few days after that.

The plan was approved, and miners were hired from the Scintilla itself to go work at the Durace mines. The mines pay taxes as required by local law. The mind can choose to bring their families along with them, and typically work for two months, receiving the third month off during which they can choose to return to the Scintilla, stay in the village, or go do anything else they want to with their free time. A small portion of their salaries is automatically deducted to cover rent, utilities, and off-world passes.

At present, the shiny mines are mild success, giving the Agents of Chaos and the Scintilla breathing room. The mines still need to grow some to improve the cash reserves of the faction and the space construct, but we are most definitely on the right path, with payments being made on time as well as allowing a little bit of funding for emergency situations. Plans to expand the mines and find more planets like that are in place, and the Coins are optimistic about the entire situation.
