Private Protection Through Firepower

One of Drego's tasks as the new Mandalorian Warmaster was securing firepower. While Mandalorians were well known for their adaptability in weapons, the Protectors needed standard issue equipment. Shuklaar Kyrdol Shuklaar Kyrdol and their company were well known within the Bounty Hunter world as a well trust manufacturer of arms, and Drego wanted to secure a contact. He had sent out a message, hoping to meet him within the comfort of his new office on Mandalore.

Hopefully, this would go well. Drego wasn't exactly a diplomat...

"We're here, Manda'yaim," said Nyles from his station. Shuklaar had personally overseen the construction of the Morut, but he still found a certain peace in watching its various systems and subsystems function, this time however he would be lying if he didn't acknowledge it was to take his mind off of the nagging thoughts in the back of his mind.

"Last few times we were here, all this, didn't shabla last. If who I hear's back running things, maybe it'll work this time," he said, glancing at the tac map in the center of the bridge, not far from Nyles' station. Truth be told, Shuklaar wasn't sure if he was addressing Nyles or if he was trying to convince himself. "Keep the guns warm, ret'lini," he said, memories of times long past reminding him to play it safe. Nyles nodded, and Shuklaar took that moment to depart the bridge.

It was a short monorail trip to the hangar, where Ragar and his command squad were waiting in front of Beroya 1-1. "Not the Oyu'baat this time, alor?" deadpanned Ragar, referring to the last time Shuklaar had shown up to Mandalore and the meeting that had taken place to coordinate reconstruction efforts in the Oyu'baat. Precious little was achieved then.

"Not this time,:" he echoed back as he boarded the Vuhyr'galaar gunship with Ragar and his rammikade in tow. As he took his seat, he connected to the gunship's intercom, "Gun it, Mer'ika, let's not keep our prospective clients waiting." Knowing how quickly Mereel would jump to the invitation from innumerable combat drops straight into haran with him, those of Ragar's rammikade that weren't quite seated quickly remedied that particular situation.

"Music to my ears, alor," came his pilot's all too enthusiastic reply over the intercom. Few people could maneuver the bulk of a Vuhyr'galaar gunship from one of the landing pads over to the pressor launch system without hitting something else with the speed that Mereel had. A squadron of Kyr'galaar figthers peeled off from their patrol pattern around the Morut, falling into formation around the gunship.

The flight down to the planet was quiet, only broken by the occasional operational chatter over the comms till Mereel finally announced their arrival, "We're on final, alor." Ragar's rammikade immediately brought their weapons to a low alert carry. Barely a heartbeat after Mereel brought the gunship's down on its landing struts did he drop the ramp. Shuklaar was out of his seat even before the hiss of escaping air and whine of hydraulics even reached his ears.

As the nine of them stepped out of the gunship, Ragar directed four of his rammikade to stay with the gunship while four of them wordlessly fell into formation. Shuklaar wasn't one to stand on ceremony and he was glad to see neither were the Protectors, he made his way to Drego Ruus Drego Ruus 's office without any fuss. Ragar and the others stopped short while Shuklaar himself raised an armored gauntlet and rapped on the door once before stepping inside.

"Drego Ruus, su cuy'gar. Now what's this I hear about you needing some weapons?" he asked, walking over to the other Mandalorian.

The sight of a battlecruiser in orbit might be one that would unnerve lesser warriors. Drego had never been the type. He'd already died once, he figured. If someone was gonna show up and bomb him from orbit, that's a hell of a way to go out. But this wasn't a scary sight, after all. This was his new contact.

Thank god they didn't keep him waiting. The sight of Shuklaar Kyrdol Shuklaar Kyrdol got a smile on Drego's face. He was always a bit of an impatient man, but he knew someone who knew their work when he saw one.

He stood, offering a handshake.
"Su cuy'gar." He answered back. "That's right. The Protectors need weapons, and I've heard your reputation. We've got plenty of credits to throw around now if you want. Right now, I'm looking into a standard issue rifle. Something we can train the men on before they start venturing out into the their own kit."

Drego knew the idea of standardization, especially within the Mandalorian culture, was a bit of a foreign concept. Every Mando was almost expected to personalize their armor and loadout, and make their weapons their own. But Drego knew from his time as a bounty hunter, the importance of well designed weapons. Everyone had their favorites, but it was crucial they had something to train the foundlings on.

Shuklaar took a breath. The company had taken on a number of 'standard' kits before, but none of them had been particularly 'standard' if he was telling the truth. Strill's rammikade had all finished their verd'goten by the time they got their additional training from the company, and that was on the younger side of the intake process. The Clans of Breshig encouraged warriors to narrow down their preferences a year or so before their verd'goten, so there was very little in the way of 'standardization' on that front.

That said, all of the company's weapons as far as was possible had similar controls, ergonomics and operation. This was the case for attachments as well. Shuklaar inclined his head slightly before giving his response, "That depends on what your definition of standard is, vod. Our weapons as you know sit on the higher end of things. If you're looking for a training weapon, best way to teach the adi'ke is a ripper. They can choose if they want to use a slugthrower or an energy weapon."

"A ripper isn't a bad idea, but I was hoping for something with a bit more...well, let's use the word, function. This wouldn't just be a training weapon, it'd be what we hand the boys who don't have unique kit. Every vod should, but some are still...working it out, ya know? My hope is that we can set up a standardized kit for boots on the ground, then we can start raising battalions, instead of small war parties. We've got Imps to our north and south, and if I know anything about the Imperials, they'll be packing a lot more heat than a bunch of small squads can handle."

Drego knew war was coming, and he wanted to be ready. He wanted to be sure that they'd be prepped for, potentially, a three way war, with only the hope of the GA at their backs. He hated the idea of the Protectors becoming a buffer state for the GA, instead of a major player.

Shuklaar took in what Drego said. He nodded once. The Dark Empire, if they were even remotely as deadly as the Maw were enough of a concern without these Empire of the Lost di'kute. Standard issue ruled out anything exotic. It had to be something that even the most initiative lacking uninspired Mando'ad could pick up and put to good use. For as long as their lack of initiative and inspiration gave them the wherewithal to do so in any event.

The increasing prevalence and proliferation of increasingly advanced armor solutions by other factions in the galaxy would have to be a factor considered here as well. The Imps, the New Imperial Order that was, had shown themselves to be capable of producing some notably advanced sets of gam. Usually the enhanced penetration rounds used in the company's Ripper and Verpine Shatter offerings took care of these problems, but Drego had a point about their limits when it came to sheer destructive potential.

That left Class-D disruptors, something the company was notably adept at producing for both internal use and export purposes. They'd already produced a number for Kamino's internal defense clone army for as long as that administration had lasted. "Class-D disruptors then, vod. We've got a few offerings and if none of those interest you we can tailor something to your preference. Wouldn't be the first time," he said, pausing to gauge Drego's reaction before adding, "nothing says usen'ye like a class-d disruptor."

"Disruptors is it then." Drego nods. "We'll take as many as you can make. All the bells and whistles too. I want a weapon that is modular as you can think of."

To Drego, it was that simple. A modular rifle that the vod can use as inspiration to specialize their kit.

Shuklaar let out a short, but hearty laugh, "Tell you the truth, vod, I don't think we know how to make any other kind." There were details to sort out that other clients would have been very particular about. Delivery schedules, production timelines, other details like that which didn't really help them since products were always delivered in the most expedient time possible without compromising on quality. Shuklaar has told clients a few times that he would much rather deliver a product late than compromise on any of their production or testing processes that ensured their credits were well spent. Somehow he didn't get the feeling that Drego Ruus was that kind of man.

He stood to his feet, extending his hand out in a traditional Mandalorian fashion. The deal had been made, all that was left was to shake on it. Auretii might have preferred contracts, but this was usually all that was required between Mando'ade, "The weapons will be delivered to Manda'yaim the moment they've cleared testing." He made sure to look Drego visor to visor, buy'ce to buy'ce before he said what he said next. "Just promise me one thing?" be asked, pausing for a moment as he let the question hang in the air for a moment. "Don't make the same mistakes those before you did." Shuklaar didn't elaborate on what those were, he had a good feeling that Drego knew precisely what he was talking about.

There was the small issue of payment, but the other Mandalorian did not need to be insulted with a reminder of how business was conducted.

"We're certainly trying not to. Part of the reason I got pulled into this whole shin-dig is because I didn't want to deal with what the vode on Kestri were doing." He left it there, but he trusted his fellow mandalorian to read between the lines there.

Recent mandalorian history, even over the last 30 years, had been turbulent. He wanted that to end just as much as everyone else. He didn't care for old grudges, or trying to pick fights with every big name in the galaxy. They needed to be smarter now, pick targets that were able to be overrun rather than massive entities.

He still didn't know how to feel about picking a fight with the Dark Empire. As much as he wanted to strike back, he knew the risk. They were starting what could become a war on three fronts, with only the GA at their backs.
