OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create an over the shoulder armature mounted slaved miniaturized missile launcher for use by Breshig War Forge Consolidated, Strill Securities, Mandalorians and select other customers.
  • Image Source: Screenshot taken from here.
  • Canon Link: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Primary Source: VX Hands-Free Weapons System, Wrist Rocket Launcher and MM9 Rocket System.
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Miniaturized Missile Launcher.
  • Size: Small.
  • Weight: Light.
  • Ammunition Type: Darts/micro-rockets/small missiles.
  • Ammunition Capacity: Very Large. 16 darts/micro-rockets/small missiles.
  • Effective Range: None. Dependant on ordnance.
  • Rate of Fire: Very High.
  • Stopping Power: None. Dependant on ordnance.
  • Recoil: Average.
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Armor/HUD Sync: The MML-02S syncs to armor HUD and sensor systems. Target acquiring and assignment is done via armor sensor and HUD systems respectively.
  • Smart Ammunition Selection: The launcher can differentiate between loaded ordnance by checking an onboard database (additional ordnance types can be added onto the database), and allows for the user to select from the loaded ordnance and fire off specific ordnance.
  • Slave Targeting Mode: The launcher can be set to follow the user's head motions, allowing for faster targeting of units not immediately in front of the user.
  • In-built Electro Photo Receptor.
  • Armature folds and stows on the back when not in use.
STRENGTHS
  • Fire Over Cover: With the in-built electro photo receptor, the weapon can be aimed over or around cover by way of the armature its attached to. This allows the user to engage targets without exposing themselves to enemy fire.
  • Single or Multiple Target: The launcher can be assigned, acquire and engage either single targets or multiple targets. The latter is especially useful when engaging multiple targets, and allows the user to make maximum use of the launcher's ability to over or around cover.
  • Hail of Projectiles: The weapon's high capacity and high fire rate allows the user to blanket target(s) in a hail of whatever projectile they've got loaded in short order, making it easier to overwhelm personal energy shields or certain defensive force powers.
WEAKNESSES
  • Reliant on Platform Sensors: The system is reliant on the sensors and scanner systems on the platform that it is mounted on for target acquisition.
  • EMP/Ion: While resistant to EMP/Ion damage, any damage that does actually get through will fry the launcher's circuitry like a protato in a deep-fat fryer.
  • Long Reload: Loading rockets is a manual process that takes time, and is an especially complicated proposition in the heat of battle.
  • Penetrating Shot: A shot that penetrates the exterior casing of the weapon could potentially set off loaded ordnance.
DESCRIPTION
With multiple militaries introducing over the shoulder weapons, including MandalArms coming up with one as well, Breshig War Forge Consolidated knew that it couldn't allow itself to be left behind. As such, it developed the MML-02S Miniaturized Missile Launcher as the first in a series of weapon systems. Of course, other than keeping up with the galactic arms race, BWFC also acknowledged the most distinct advantage of such weapon systems would be their ability to fire around or over cover, allowing the user to engage targets without exposing themselves to enemy fire.

The launcher syncs with the user's HUD and connects to the armor's sensor systems via a heavily encrypted short range wireless link (though a wired connection is possible). Target acquisition is done by the armor's sensors and scanners, and target assignment is done by the user via their helmet's HUD. The launcher can be assigned, acquire and engage either single targets or multiple targets. The latter is especially useful when engaging multiple targets, and allows the user to make maximum use of the launcher's ability to over or around cover. Additionally, the weapon's high capacity and high fire rate allows the user to blanket target(s) in a hail of whatever projectile they've got loaded in short order, making it easier to overwhelm personal energy shields or certain defensive force powers.

That said, the system is entirely reliant on the sensor and scanner systems on the platform that it is mounted on for target acquisition. Additionally, loading rockets is a manual process that takes time, and is an especially complicated proposition in the heat of battle. Additionally, when battlefield circumstances are concerned, it should be noted that enemy fire that penetrates the exterior casing of the weapon could potentially set off loaded ordnance. Finally, while resistant to EMP/Ion damage, any damage that does actually get through will fry the launcher's circuitry like a protato in a deep-fat fryer.
