Astrogation was never Diodoros’s strong suit. Which wouldn’t be much of a problem if Diodoros was also a competent captain who’d utilize and leverage the strengths of his crew. But the firrerreo was a rather autocratic captain, a privilege granted through his esteemed letter of marque that noted him as more than a mere pirate. The aging Sith license of pillage and plunder was issued to Diodoros and extended to his crew so long as they were loyal to him.

This had allowed the golden brute to get around the normally democratic demands expected for the life of freebooters. He had a plan to set up a robust base of operations far into the lawless periphery of the galaxy. Pochi was his destination. Bringing along his ancient juggernaut of a warship an Invisible Class Dreadnaught.

However the problem was that Pochi was located in the opposite direction that Diodoros’s flagship was going. As a consequence they were functionally stranded in the dire Unknown Regions. What should’ve been viewed as a death sentence, Diodoros instead judged as a challenge. With about half a year's worth of supplies for himself and his crew he did not believe that perishing in the void of uncharted space was an absolute certainty. They were pirates, they would adapt and find their own way.

Relying predominantly on sublight engines to avoid any unnecessary hyperspace collisions. Using their hyperdrive as a means of quickly escaping threats deemed too dangerous to confront directly. Occasionally getting lucky and finding a settled planet to forcefully replenish their supplies before vanishing into deep space again.

. . .

Concerning reports were coming from a number of member worlds within the Alliance. Connecting the dots it wasn’t difficult to conclude that it was a single band of marauders sporadically appearing in orbit and demanding tributes under threat of violence. Delivering their message in both Galactic Basic and Huttese.

Some within the alliance had concerns of coming into conflict with certain warlike cultures within the Unknown Regions. But nothing about this situation in particular suggested that it was anything other than independent pirates.

Far Worlds Alliance leadership have formulated a plan to lure out the outlaws with a decoy vessel meant to look like a well stocked freighter full of valuables to appear as an enticing target for the Corsairs.

Objectives

Objective One

Interdiction

Coordinating with the lure, ensure that the pirate warship can’t escape or fightback.

Objective Two

Boarding Action

The captain and crew will likely not want to give up their ship and booty without a proper fight. Be sure to safely retrieve the stolen valuables so that they may be returned to their rightful owners.

Far Worlds Alliance leadership have formulated a plan to lure out the outlaws with a decoy vessel meant to look like a well stocked freighter full of valuables to appear as an enticing target for the Corsairs.

And at they helm of that ship was an old man. Way older than he looked, and a bit to whimsical for his own good. He moved the freighter into position and killed the engine, a grin plastered on his face. Of course, very few willingly chose to go with the crazy old Jedi Master, who volunteered to be the bait. Only a handful of personnel who were there in case they were boarded, armed and ready for an ambush. Dillon's finger causally flitted with the communicator as he spoke out loud, mostly to himself.

"How thick should I lay it on?" he mused. "I feel like going the route of 'I sure hope any big bad pirates aren't out looking to steal from a soft, vulnerable freighter full of supplies' might be a little too on the nose. Oh, but maybe that would be fun..."

"Master Jetii..." the copilot began, the sector ranger Alias Sol Alias Sol . The Warden was another person crazy enough to volunteer to be bait, but unlike the Jedi he was strictly business.

"Fine," the Jedi relented. "You warrior-folk can be so boring sometimes."

Dillon flipped on the ship's distress beacon and sent a message out into the void.

<<This is Grey Fowl, sending message to anyone nearby. We're adrift, no engine and souls aboard. Send immediate aid. I repeat, this is Grey Fowl, requesting immediate aid.>>

Then he clicked off the comms.

"And now we play the waiting game..."

Dillon reached down and dug through the pocket of his robes, pulling out a still-packaged protein bar. He ripped open the plastic and turned to the Mandalorian beside him.

"Halvsies?"

A moment of silence, and then...

"No."

"Stealth probe's still transmitting," came the response from Emri. "Feed's available if you want it," she added. They had left RP-01S 'Sur'ulur' Recon Probe in place to monitor the situation. Naturally, the freighter was also supposed to transmit a signal whern the pirates showed, but it never hurt to be prepared, ret'lini.

Pirates? On his watch? That wasn't going to shabla happen. Now he wanted to blow them all to haran, but apparently that wasn't in the cards. He knew the alor had been hanging around that Matthew of Valendale Matthew of Valendale too much , and it was at times like this that it showed. No skin off his back, he and his weren't the ones on bait duty.

Nyles waved her off, "Just load the interdiction mines for the first salvo and make sure our jump capacitors are fully charged." Three battlecruisers was perhaps the only tme he'd be willing to use the aruetii word 'overkill' as a descriptor, but this time it felt shabla right. The Morut, however, didn't go anywhere without her escort ships, they'd made far too many enemies for this to not be the case.

Out here, there was enough that was dangeous too, not anythjing he genuinely belived could destroy his ship that easily, but once more, it paid to be prepared, ret'lini. "Elek, alor," came the response from Emri a moment later in response. "Jump capacitors charged and ready, guns loaded, main battery charged, we're as ready as we'll ever be."

"Music to my ears," he replied, glancing at the tactical display. All three ships' juimp capacitors were charged and at the ready, main batteries charged and minelaying shells loaded. They were, indeed, as ready as they would ever be.

Fortunately, it would seem that Matthew himself was rather interested in playing bait. He took a moment to stifle the chuckle threatening to rumble up from his chest at Dillon Kai'el Dillon Kai'el 's antics, though the amusement still lingered plainly enough in the slight curve of his mouth.

"I think that would be revealing our hand far too soon. Besides…" Matthew began, allowing the pause to settle as his attention shifted toward the Jedi. "I would rather like to see the look upon our opponents' faces when they realize for themselves precisely what has transpired."

There was something undeniably satisfying about the thought of allowing the trap to remain unseen until its intended prey had already committed themselves to it. Matthew seemed perfectly content to indulge that patience, especially if it afforded them the pleasure of witnessing that particular realization firsthand.

"You wouldn't rob me of such a momentous occasion, would you, Master Kai'el?"
he added, the question delivered with enough playful amusement to make it clear that Matthew was enjoying the performance nearly as much as the plan itself.

It wasn’t too long before the false distress signal was intercepted. Local traders were warned about voyaging through this particular area of deep space to try and keep innocents from answering the distress signal. Lowering the risk of collateral damage.

Eventually there an unidentified vessel would arrive. A single old model of corellian gunship painted with distinctive black and gold paint. Much smaller than the primary ship that was in the reports. It approached the freighter cautiously before sending out an encrypted message to an unknown receiver. The moment that followed the vessel’s crew hoisted its colours, rather literally.

Brightly flickering to life were a number of holoprojectors across the gunship. Revealing the image of a golden skull and wreath to the decoy freighter.

<<[We’re here ZzzzZZZ for the rescue, In ExZzZchange for ye cargo, valuablesZZZzz and yar ship…Or else...]>> Was the message the pirate ship sent to the freighter. The poor signal and even poorer basic made the transmission not as clear as it otherwise could’ve been. However, almost on cue, another vessel would zoom into view of the freighter. A comparatively massive 2 kilometer long Invinsible-Class Dreadnaught Heavy Cruiser, along with another old CEC product. A humble Deep Space Reovery Vessel L-2783, a newer acquisition while out here in the Unknown regions. Currently being used as a pocket carrier for snub fighters. The dreadnought loomed over its smaller sister ships like an oversized zeppelin given its cylindrical shape. Which had likely sent the corellian gunship out ahead of it as something of a scout before hastily chasing after it.

Just like the CEC gunship the huge image of a holographic skull and wreath projected itself across the ancient dreadnought. Within its bridge the Diodoros glared through the transparasteel windows at the possible new addition to the fleet he was trying to create for himself out here in the deep unknown. There is strength in numbers when different vessels can help overcome the shortcomings of others. On board with him was something of a skeleton crew. Unable to properly man all the systems on the warship. Needing to divert manpower to the other smaller ships.

Finding supplies was always good out here. But what Diodoros really wanted were some adequate and up to date star charts that could help him and his crew get back to the rest of the galaxy.

"You wouldn't rob me of such a momentous occasion, would you, Master Kai'el?"

"Oh, I wouldn't dream of it, young man," Dillon remarked, his tone airy. "Just having a bit of fun is all. A few thousand years of meditation and you find yourself wanting to be a little whimsical from time to time."

Then came a response. A large, rather ugly looking ship emerged and began to display their colors. That was the pirates they were looking for.

<<[We’re here ZzzzZZZ for the rescue, In ExZzZchange for ye cargo, valuablesZZZzz and yar ship…Or else...]>>

And then a dreadnaught arrived. Dillon's grin grew even wider.

"Look at that," he observed. "Two fish, one hook. Those Strill boys are in for a treat."

<<We are willing to cooperate. Ensure nobody is harmed and we'll abandon our vessel. We aren't looking for trouble. Please... no need for threats.>>

And with a click, Dillon stood up. He was eager for these pirates to board. The Jedi Master was looking for a bit of fun, and the novelty of making jokes while they floated in the middle of space had just worn off. He was ready to get his hands dirty.
