Commodore Helix

Disintegrations done dirt cheap.
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Organization Name: Helix Solutions
  • Classification: Rogue State
  • Affiliation: Commodore Helix
  • Organization Symbol: A twisting, stylized double helix.
  • Description: A roving mostly-droid micronation, styling itself as a corporation, that currently fights for hire.
GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Hierarchy: Commodore Helix on top, the Knightslayers slightly lower, everyone else underneath. Simple.
  • Membership: It is difficult to quantify Helix Solutions' exact personnel count. The organization is currently undergoing an aggressive and explosive growth period as it gorges itself on plunder, with droids being cranked off the factory in great numbers per day. As the enormous majority of the company's members are droids, it is somewhat uncommon for organics to join, but join they occasionally do. Those few organic members who exist typically live comfortable existences, as with most of its roster consisting of unpaid droids, Helix Solutions tends to dramatically overcompensate its few organic members. Organics are typically housed in the lower decks of the Fearful Symmetry in comfortable suites appropriate for an individual or small family.
  • Climate: Helix Solutions runs itself like a well-oiled machine, with much of the day to day doings micromanaged by the gargantuan superhuman intelligence that communicates thousands of orders and tasks simultaneously. As such, the climate is largely internally peaceful, save for occasional disagreements as a consequence of most of its droid members being granted intelligence. Organic members may find the constant presence of war droids somewhat grating, (as despite being intelligent, Helix droids tend to be uninterested in conversation or social interaction of the sort organics depend on) and largely tend to congregate amongst themselves on decks created for their comfortable inhabitance, welcoming the occasional new arrival with barely-contained excitement.
  • Reputation: Most in the galaxy are unaware of Helix Solutions, but as the organization undergoes a massive growth spurt and becomes more ambitious, word is slowly trickling out about this new player. What has trickled out is not good. Proper security firms or mercenary groups typically disavow Helix, as they abide by the rules of neither, balking at nothing and willing to take on jobs deemed too "dirty" for other mercs. Stories of deliberately-cruel in-house weaponry and droid armies destroying villages or holding planetary governments hostage grow more and more common. Still, to a certain type of prospective employer, results are all that matter, and Helix Solutions seldom fails to produce results.
  • Curios: Helix Droids have the state's double-helix symbol painted somewhere, typically the left shoulder for humanoid models such as the B1H, while non-humanoid models find someplace else to display it prominently. Organic members are required to carry an access badge to enter sensitive areas, issued appropriate to their clearance.
  • Rules: Helix Solutions follows only two hard rules: Absolute adherence to the word of Helix himself, and that the client is always right. Otherwise, the organization possesses no proper structure of laws save what its owner issues when he feels like it, as all Helix Solutions droids are programmed to be absolutely and unconditionally obedient to the Commodore. They are largely otherwise free to do as they wish during downtime, with droids engaging in sparring matches, studying datapad literature, spending time at a firing range, or whatever other tasks may interest a droid. Still, as intelligent (though not independent) thinkers, disagreements, occasionally even violent ones, emerge among the droids, typically over a task like repairing a broken fuel line or how to execute a prisoner. These are most often resolved peaceably, though there is a fierce internal rivalry in the fighter corps. Organic members are watched somewhat closely, as they cannot be programmed for obedience, and any found stealing from or harming another organic member or droid are judged on a case-by-case basis, then punished if proven guilty. Even minor crimes are punished harshly, typically with the defendant being publicly beaten bloody by B2H droids. Serious crimes, like murder or assault, end in a firing squad or a free trip to space without the benefit of vacuum protection.
  • Goals: Helix's publicly-stated goal is simply to make credits and expand indefinitely, as one would expect from a corporation. Privately, Helix has other concerns, though these are closely-guarded secrets. In truth, Helix Solutions is more of a state or nation than a company, and is concerned with its own well-being and growth at any cost. It will ally with others when convenient, but ultimately owes no loyalty to anyone but itself. Still, Helix himself is a Separatist by nature, possessing something of the old CIS's stated hatred for tyranny, and is if anything is working toward a galaxy of what he sees as real freedom (closer to what most would consider anarchy or extreme libertarianism), using tyranny to eventually rid the galaxy of tyranny, no matter the horrors unleashed, the atrocities committed, or the staggering cost in innocent lives. The organization formally dislikes all major galactic powers (such as the Galactic Alliance, Mandalorian Enclave, Rimward Trade League, or Sith Order), and if it had its way would abolish all four, but will work with them if it believes doing so will aid its long-term goals.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

The nation-in-disguise that would come to call itself Helix Solutions first began to coalesce shortly after the end of the Clone Wars. Having escaped beyond the range of the CIS' shutdown signal due to a hyperdrive malfunction that cast his fleet outside the rim of the galaxy, Commodore Helix slowly crawled his way back to the known galactic map. Those few aware of his history speculate he saw something in the infinite intergalactic void, something that gave the droid pause. He returned some two decades later, bearing the limping remains of a fleet, and set to work.

Over the next several hundred years, Helix began building up his resources, buying friends, gaining blackmail material on the right people, and slowly but surely building up a substantial powerbase right under the galaxy's collective noses. It took a small part in the Rebellion against Palpatine's Empire, but refused to become a full member of the New Republic. Its armies and fleet grew bloated indeed, but after the events of a great plague swept the galaxy clean and several powers emerged, Helix knew he couldn't hope to defeat the great powers in open war. Not yet, at any rate.

Helix Solutions wouldn't march under an open banner in full force for a long while afterward, instead simply waiting and watching. During this time, it would first formally emerge as a "small" security consultation company, lending advice or small droid forces to crime lords, corporations, and occasionally even legitimate governments.

In the current period of 900 ABY, Helix publicly fights alongside the banner of the Sith Inquisition in the Outer Rim Campaigns, and has used its ill-gotten gains to prompt a swift and aggressive expansion, designing and issuing new droids, tanks, weapons, and warships, and releasing each in record time with the help of a sizeable workforce that doesn't need breaks or sleep. If its growth is allowed to continue, Helix aims to become a major player, and use its power to topple governments, cast down temples, and plunge the galaxy into Helix's utopian vision of galactic liberty, where the strong thrive, and the weak are no longer allowed to dictate to the rest. A galaxy free of impotent sorcerer-monks, power-crazed madmen, corrupt politicians, greedy corporations, predatory criminals, or any other tyrant bending the masses to their will. It will kill anyone or anything that stands in its way, quite willing to kill millions to, in its mind, save quadrillions. Then, it plans to watch over the galaxy for a time to ensure all is well, before taking its forces across the limitless void to "free" another, if it finds life. Then another, and another, so on unto infinity...

This is all, of course, not public record, known only to the Commodore himself and his inner circle. On its face, Helix is the consummately-professional mercenary company, though one getting rather too large. wealthy, and audacious for its own good. Helix is quite aware they cannot as of yet challenge any of the major players (or indeed, a few of the stronger minor ones) directly, but their ageless master is patient, and has all the time in the universe to use one against the other, seize on war-weakened governments, or simply burn down isolated worlds to pave the way for freedom with the bodies of any who won't get out of the way.
