  • Precision-machined scope for users lacking a HUD system
  • Three different ammunition types, one for mechanical and two for organic targets
STRENGTHS
  • Long Ranged: The Lamprey is capable of delivering its munitions at substantial distances, capable of striking targets up to 1km away under extreme circumstances.
  • Near-Silent: Utilizing a powerful internal suppressant system, this weapon produces very little noise and no flash when firing.
  • Versatile: Depending on the ammunition loaded, the Lamprey can engage lightly-armored infantry or medium-armored vehicles at the wielder's leisure.
WEAKNESSES
  • Low Capacity: The Lamprey accepts only three darts within an internal magazine.
  • Low Rate of Fire: Utilizing a bolt-action system to load in the next dart from the magazine, the user may also load rounds individually into the chamber if they so choose.
  • Mediocre Armor Penetration: Though the lamprey's anti-infantry munition strikes with significant force, it needs to meet flesh to do its work, and can be turned away by strong armor.
DESCRIPTION

Another cruel Helix-designed weapon, the Lamprey is a highly precise, air-powered dart-launcher designed to inflict a slow and lingering death on infantry and vehicle targets both rather than drop them immediately. It accomplishes this with a unique set of three different types of ammunition.

The first is a simple metal slugthrower projectile, designed for quick and silent assassination.

The second is designed to kill robust but moderately-armored organic infantry. When the dart strikes flesh, several sets of of backward-facing barbs are activated, ensuring the projectile cannot be removed without causing significant flesh damage. A moment later, a miniature pump housed within the dart begins drawing blood from the surrounding tissue it is touching, pumping the target's vital fluids outside the body and causing rapid blood loss even when the location struck would normally be a relatively minor injury. The target will be slowly sucked dry, and if struck by several darts can be slain relatively quickly unless they are removed by a competent battlefield surgeon.

The third is a round-nosed dart housing a powerful magnetic locking system, and an equally-powerful miniature ion grenade. The projectile would ideally stick to a vehicle or droid when fired, then set off the charge, disabling the machine. Particularly-adroit users have used this to shoot and disable enemy handheld weaponry, though this is not recommended.

However, the weapon itself is somewhat unwieldy, heavier than a blaster, and the size and weight of the darts (about as wide as a human thumb and slightly longer) means they are too cumbersome to carry many of.

The rifle additionally utilizes a bolt-action operation system that draws ammunition from a three-round internal magazine, leading to high mechanical reliability but making it somewhat difficult to use under heavy fire.

Typically given to H4X or KBK squads as a quiet and precise assassination tool, this weapon is also occasionally given out to B1H droids as a squad marksman weapon.
