    Physically immortal, Aurelian Sigismund is a leftover of an age when a single Empire managed to grab rule of the entire Galaxy within the blink of an eye. Unseen since then, he never forgot about his roots as an Exarch of the Eternal Empire and worked since then to recreate and perfect the method of his body was altered by the master engineers of old Zakuul.

    A warrior with millennia of experience, a commander who has seen thousands of battles, a Force user who has seen the Light and dwelled in the Dark, Aurelians true passion is the creation of things and the bringing of enlightenment in form of justice, order and the absence of Force sensitives.

    He himself is a potent Force user, but despises the fact and does not see it as anything else than a tool to bring about the end of every Force user who pursues ideology and ideals of balance or even the opposite. There is no middle ground, no compromise for Force sensitives but to bend to the will of the masses, to bow to science. Or break and perish.

    SERVANT OF JUSTICE
    The Exarch of Zakuul, Aurelian Sigismund, had command of a Star Fortress in Sith Space but with a special order to hunt and eliminate all exposed and uncovered Sith powerbases who dared to step out of their homeworlds.

    During the War against the Alliance, Sigismund held command of a portion of the Eternal Fleet on board his flagship The Phalanx and committed an orbital bombardment, exterminating an entire world in a punitive mission to lure out the Alliance Commander. The death toll was estimated in the hundreds of millions and marked him for a high bounty inside both Sith Empire and Galactic Republic for years after the war.

    A NEW EMPIRE
    When meeting the emperor of a new Eternal Empire, Darth Tacitus, Aurelian agreed to become the new High Justice and find both knowledge and resources in the Unknown Regions and Wild Space. Making way there, he would also search for relics and weapons of Iokathian origin.

    RIM-GUARD ORDER
    Once returning to the Eternal Empire, Aurelian met the new Empress with a distanced attitude. The previous Emperor was gone and apparently much of his zeal and fire as well. But with new resources and knowledge, he founded the Rim-Guard Order as first try to bring super-soldiers to the battlefields of the Galaxy. And he succeeded, even though small in numbers, they proved very effective against the brutes of the Bryn'adûl and various foes of the Eternal Empire of Kalidan.

Ecthelion Aiglos
✠ High Imperator of the Rim-Guard Order ✠

    Ecthelion Aiglos was born on Zakuul during the reign of the Eternal Emperor Valkorion into a rich Zakuulan and zealous family. As soon as his Force sensivity was discovered, he was sent to the Knight Schools and became a Knight of Zakuul, showing great skill at arms and fanatical loyalty to the Empire and even more, its Most Benevolent ruler.

    Participating in the raids against the Republic and Sith Empire, he was commended for his actions on Korriban and Balmorra, breaching the left wing of the ancient Sith Academy and receiving a severe wound by a Sith Lord. Successfully raising further in recognition of the leadership, he was one of the first to be selected for Project Exarch, despite his reservations towards the Prince, Arcann, as suitable leader, but the glorious campaign removed the apparent issues and showed Zakuulan superiority.

    The years of occupation were devoted to hunting Sith powerbases which dared to leave and try to establish themselves outside of the Sithworlds. A task which Ecthelion was following exemplarily, destroying several larger powerbases and renowned Sith lords in the process. As soon as the revolt started, his hunting was expanded on Jedi and then Alliance members. Afterall the Outlander was responsible for the Eternal Emperors death. The most noteworthy deed here was the complete and utter devastation of a Republic world through orbital bombardment with dozens of millions deaths and eradicated species, flora and fauna alike.

    Following the devastating effects of the First Battle of Odessen and the abdication of Arcann as Emperor, Aiglos was once more confronted with his reluctance to blindly follow the children of the late Benevolent Emperor. But this time his disgust outweighed his loyalty, because the daughter, Vaylin, was mad and not fit for rule. He deserted along with his ship, The Phalanx, and its crew. Instead of hiding though, he moved to the territories of the Eternal Empire and maintained peace and justice there without raising a hand to protect the throne and the one who sat on it.

    Ecthelion joined arms again with the reconstituted and elected government of Zakuul following the victory of the Alliance, maintain his opposition to the Alliance and a deep hatred. But the service was not of a long duration as slowly the claws came to pack the decaying planet of Zakuul, the Exchange was there. And with it came greed and a rotten sense for survival, the government struck deals and the remaining Knights of Zakuul who would not bow to money and capitalism, were an obstacle, like Ecthelion Aiglos himself. Ambushed and tortured only his will for revenge and survival kept him going, stripped of his ability to show impressions and left with deep scars. Despite his connections and knowledge about the Order of Zildrog, he did not join them nor presented himself to the public stage.

    In the long years that followed, Ecthelion decided to use his time. It became apparent, after several decades, that his body did not seem to age thanks to the alterations of Project Exarch. He learned and practised, along Sith, along Jedi, at academies in the Core and in the Unknown Regions. During the New Sith Wars he actually fought on both sides, the instability which they caused was a blessing for studies on wars between Force sensitives. Fueling minor destabilising factors inside the Republic, he was supporting the decay of the winning state, the Galactic Republic.

    Ecthelion Aiglos is tall grown, muscular-athletic with a perfect body shape, even after all these years. His strength is far beyond what a human can naturally reach, strongly reflected in his unusual weight which is more than twice as high as that of a human of his size. His physiology and metabolism are mastered, perfected in what has been lost to time and the idea of peace by those narrow-minded enough to oppose the Eternal Empire.

    His face is greatly distorted, deep scars running all over it due to the torture he went through which also burned out all muscles therefore denying him the possibility to show any emotions. Even if though, it would be difficult to do so by now. His age and his by now acquired skills and knowledge have elevated his behaviour to be more, to believe he is more than an ordinary human. And that his destiny is undeniable to be great, greater than that of anyone around him.

    More than the Eye: Ecthelion Aiglos is more than the eye can see, even if it tries to look beneath the masterfully crafted personality suit. He will adapt to the circumstances of the conversation and the conversation partner as easily as changing the suit. Everything to achieve his goals, ignoring relations, emotions and anything else which makes someone human.

    Scales of Grey: Hundreds of years of research and practice have allowed Aiglos to know most of the Light and Dark side practices. He is fully aware of how to bend the Force through emotions to his will as well as to meditate and accept the flows of the Force to swim in the Light. Ecthelion's ideal to vanquish the Force and its influence on the universe guided him to this understanding, know your foe to defeat it.

    Focus: Without doubt the will and dedication of Aiglos are his strongest trait. He cannot be corrupted, nor will anyone be able to get into his mind and influence it. His drive are beyond time and beyond human horizons and aim only for the greater good he intends to achieve. There is no nobody he would not kill, betray and nothing he would destroy or eradicate to step forward.

    Master at Arms: Through age and training, with exceptional physical capabilities, Ecthelion is a remarkable and extremely skilled warrior, soldier and duelist. Raised with the group fighting forms of the Knights of Zakuul, the Knights Cut, advanced through the dueling style of the Princes, the Heroes Cut, he was already one of the deadliest warriors in the Galaxy during his time as an Exarch. Following his work along both Sith and Jedi, he has mastered all of the Lightsaber forms, even with variations and personalisations. Echani, Teräs Käsi, Stava, boxing, Trakata, Dun Möch and many other fighting styles were mastered over the time. Additionally his talent for warfare could peak over the time, having practical experience in nearly all areas of military command.
    (Doesn´t matter either way, everyone is a super warrior and masterful commander.)

    Beyond Human: Traits and characteristics which make him as deadly and as efficient as he is, are making Aiglos also very distant to understand ordinary human emotions and reaction. His empathy degraded further and further over the years. It makes it difficult for him to gain followers in personal meetings or conversations, as he shows a blatant disregard of emotions and compassion.

    Mechanical Parts: Project Exarch was an ultimately refined process of combined genetics with technology, but this left some electronical parts in the body, like the eyes, hearing or his connectors to the armour. Weaponry like ion charges or electro-magnetic-impulses can narrow the capabilities of Aiglos, knocking out vital parts of his pure physicalness.

EQUIPMENT

Zakuulan Exarch Armour
Made of various strong and well suited metals and alloys, Exarch armour was designed to work both as protection and conductor for the powers of an Exarch and to channel the energies of Sun Generators.

It consists of a helmet with full battle interface and HUD, heat and night vision, a cuirass, shoulder guards with blade breakers, gauntlets, leg-guards, greaves and armoured boots, all connected with his body through intersection points across his skin to allow the armour to act as a second skin. Connected from the solar-plexus to the two shoulder guards is a power system to further help with reaction times.
Dominarch Artificer Armour
Made by a famous master armourer, this armour was made of Duranium, Rhodium, Titanium, Frasium and Phrik in different alloys and combinations. Additionally it was gilded with a rare material called Auramite only found in a remote part of the late Eternal Empire.

The armour itself appears like an ancient lorica segmentata, with a dragon skull on the upper chest, the symbol of Valkorion and lights emitting energy from the interwebbed power source. The suit is made of a masterfully crafted chest piece, gauntlets and greaves, a cingulum and extended thigh plates.
Shield of the Eternal Crusader
Ecthelions shield is a large scutum, decorated with a dragons wings, lightning bolts and powered by a generator for the small deflector in it. The shield is made of the same materials as the Dominarchs armour and was forged by the same individual as well.

Ecthelions lightsaberpike
Powered by a light-blue coloured crystal with bifurcating cyclical-ignition pulse the weapon has a retractable hilt with four different length settings, ordinary lightsaber length, slightly extended hilt, truncheon length and pike length. The hilt is made of alloys of titanium, cortosis and auramite.
Crusader gladius
A short-sword with a design centered around stabbing and piercing and made of Titanium and Mullinine, this is a backup weapon designed for the Crusaders to serve in melee.
Heavy blaster pistol
A simple, unmodified heavy blaster pistol.

STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES

Superhuman
Due to the extensive enhancements through cybernetics, implants and bio-engineering, Aiglos body is a few times more capable than the average person his stature, excluding any Force abilities. Reflexes, strength, speed and pain tolerance are vastly improved.
EMP vulnerability
The vast improvements in his body are based on artificial synapses and some, like his eyes or implants, are powered by the energy of the body turning it into forms of electricity. If shorted out, he is losing quite a bit of his potential. And he gets a very strong headache.
Venerably experienced
As a veteran of wars which are millennia ago, he has seen and experienced a lot more than a person can imagine, having spend the time to acquire a very large variety of skills.
PTSD
The death of Valkorion and the fall of Zakuul afterwards had left deep scars. Furthermore the torture he suffered at the hands of the Exchange demanded a tribute as well. If his mental shielding and conditioning is broken, it is easy to offset him.
Ancient combat practitioner
The combat form he uses is not known to the Galaxy, the Knights of Zakuul just a little note in the history books. It is a unique and efficient fighting style.
Expressionless, emotionless
Thanks to the Exchange, he is not able to show any facial expressions anymore. Furthermore his alterations, his losses and the huge amount of time which passed, dulled his emotions to a total lack of empathy.
Proven commander
As successful Sith hunter in the Great Conquest, a reckless Jedi killer in the centuries after, he had made his career under Arcann. Commanding is a key talent, not an inspirational, but as an efficient and reckless leader, taking the first spot in line himself.

    • Loyalty and mindset: The Shield Legions are sworn soldiers, zealous and without doubt trained, indoctrinated and educated by selected Masters to obey and live the virtues and goals of the High Imperator. Their secretly implanted inhibtor chip guarantees absolute obedience which they take for dutifulness and devotion to the orders of their commanders. Orders are not an option but a commandment, disobedience being a nearly unknown occasion. The troops usually develop a strong bond between each other, forming enclosed and sophisticated brotherhoods of warriors, loyal to their goal, commander and each other.

    • Tactics: A Legion is rarely deployed in attritional warfare and it is not even happening very often that they are seen in full strength on a battlefield except the expected resistance and value of the target justify such extreme measures. Their main force is the Cohort, dispatched on its own it is more than capable to deal with many threats, equipped with tanks, mechanized units and other support forces, they will be sent to the targeted zone and fulfill their task. The balance of Line, Storm and Heavy Cadres in a Shield Company is giving a lot of tactical flexibility.
      • Hasta (Strategic deployment, tactical maneuvre): The Legion uses Stormeagles or other fast crafts to strike at the enemies center. They unleash their full destructive potential in one concentrated blow against the enemies throat and head to cut it off.
      • Ultor (Tactical maneuvre): Designed to deal with the threat of Force users as well, the Legionnaires adapted tactics to deal with them. When faced with a Force practitioner, the locally strongest duelist of the Legion will challenge the individual to a duel while the brothers form a protective perimeter around the individuals. As soon as the Legions champion is pushed back or close to be killed, the other Legionnaires intervene with all weapons available to kill the Force user.
      • Testudo (Tactical formation): The testudo is a shield wall, utilising the Scutum to its maximum protection. The front rank forming a wall with their shields, the Lancer-blasters ready to shoot through gaps while the ranks behind cover the top. It can be a moving formation where there is a gap below the shields and the ground or a stationary, where the front ranks shields are put directly onto the ground.
    • Training: To be a Legionnaire means to give up everything personal and private, there only individuality left are the four hours of daily sleep. The rest of the day you spend in combat training, tactical lessons, meditation, equipment maintenance and additional classes. Everything is aimed to make you a perfect soldier and the epitome of a warrior, skilled, disciplined and courageous. The training includes daily visits on the shooting range, melee and close combat, tactical simulations, group combat all done in varying conditions, terrain, climate etc. plus lessons on tactical subjects, potential enemies, technical details of weapons, equipment and vehicles, and lectures on history, art and science, strongly influenced by the Legions Praetors.
    • Recruitment & Enhancement: The aspirants for the Legions are selected from those that survive the extreme trials which are put onto the individuals who apply. Trials which test not only physical strength, combat capabilities, but also mental health, the will to push on and if the applicant can defeat pain, exhaustion and despair. The trials vary from Praetor and region of recruitment, but will always aim to get the absolute maximum out of any applicant. It was the High Imperators desire to get only the most resilient and intelligent species onto the planet to get them into the ranks of the legion. The recruitment rate is dominated by Zabrak and Thyrsians, only then followed by Humans, Echani and Arkanians. After the trials the aspirants are sent to the Olympus Vulcanus to enter their enhancement process. The aspirant receive biological and cybernetical enhancements which make the perfect soldiers of them, including an inhibitor chip to increase obedience to a maximum and to support comradeship between the Legionnaires.
    • Uniforms
Strengths:
  • Heavy Infantry: Due to their power armor and improvements, the Vandemarian Legions make the perfect heavy infantry. Armored, heavily armed and supported by mechanised units they are a deadly force on any open battlefield.
  • Devoted: Through indoctrination, inhibitor chips and propaganda, these soldiers know no disobedience or remorse, they do as they are commanded and move on. Professional and cold every day of the year.
Weaknesses:
  • Training: Due to the extreme high standards, the training times are several years of daily training. Losses are extensive to be replenished and therefore major losses will take to time to be filled up again.
  • Selection: The ultra-high standards of selection are difficult to come by and more than 90% of the applicants are either sent away after failure or die in the selection trials.
  • Expensive: Cybernetic, bio-engineering and high-end equipment, the Legion demand a high percentage of the military spending.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Vandemarian Legions have their origin in the Knights of Zakuul many millennia ago. Aurelian Sigismund who himself was such a Knight and even an Exarch, held the capabilities and devotion of the Knights in high honour and regards over the passing time. When his Zakuulan remnant forces moved to Vandemar there were many who were Knights, members of the military or Overwatch of the original Eternal Empire, all devoted to the ideas of justice and the Benevolent Emperor Valkorion.

Yet the Eternal Empire failed, weak and ill-thought leadership moved it into an early grave, the Force proven to be a meagre ally against itself. Therefore the single man at the top of this small colony set himself a new goal, long before the Grand Army of the Republic or Galactic Empire would come into being, he plotted to raise one of the best armies the Galaxy has ever seen, without cloning though. And most importantly, without Force users, but to counter them.

Centuries of research and other activities passed, developing Vandemar into a sophisticated society and building the secret laboratories of Olympus Vulcanus deep in the Arx Tyrannis Mountains near the planets capital. Scientists, researchers, smiths, forgers, architects and engineers passed through these halls as the planet kept turning and slowly the seeds for a rebirth of the Project Exarch were spread. Sigismund himself giving himself to be closely scanned, investigated and eyed.

The extreme heights of the Eternal Empire under Arcann would not be reached, but the Vandemarian Legions were born with the First Generation of Paladins, named after the lieutenants of the Exarchs. Sent into the Unknown Regions to trial and test their strength, the results were adequate but improved over time. More years passed and as mass-cloning appeared, the considerations were made to create a Clone Army greater than that of the Republic, but the cost and secrecy could not be assured, therefore the Legions remained a secret of Vandemar, drawn from the local population.

Even as an era of Chaos spread around the Galaxy, realms rising and falling, the Legions were not committed. Sigismund did not believe that the time was right to enter the stage just yet. The fall of the Sith Empire and the rise of a New Imperial Order which knocked on his doorstep though proved to be a turning point.
In the previous year the last remnants of the First Generation had been used to prepare the Galaxy, known as the Rim-Guard Order they were unleashed upon the Galaxy and scored in savage fights against the Bryn'adûl. Their High Imperator moving into various negotiations himself.

Upon revealing the planet and appealing for an official status within the New Imperial Order, the Vandemarian Legions were fully activated. Stationed on warships and in bastions around the Vandemar system their campaign was just about to begin.

Panatha System, Orbit over Panatha
The seconds leading up to the arrival of enemy naval forces
With silence the Vandemarian command observed the 3D projection of the Panatha system. About two dozen individuals, more than half armored in golden power armor, stood there, their eyes or lenses on the map as the alarm of the sensors started ringing. They watched as more and more ships of various sizes entered the system, then as more battlegroups entered.

They were professionals and there was no immediate reaction, stress, haste or panic. It was totally silent as the High Imperator assessed the situation, as well as the Imperators and Battlefleet commanders. The first voice rising though did not came from a Vandemarian born, but some uptight prick of the Enclave forces.


"Lord Sigismund, we are glad you could accompany us this day. I would ask you the same as I did of our Auxillary fleet. No enemy reinforcements are to reach the ground if we can help it. We are expecting heavy naval reinforcements. Have all weaponry charged and ready to support Enclave naval forces' flanks during engagement. Warmaster Romul Saxon's fleet would need our collective support if he is to maintain superiority in atmosphere. Kindly confirm reception and may the Force be with you, Your Excellency."

"The Force has nothing to do with the outcome of this battle, Minister Vemric Keldra . Your orders are clear and understood. Ad Victoriam."

The two last words would be repeated by all the present soldiers, both their fists crossed across their chest and their heads looking up. To Victory. Defeat in battle is rarely an option and the Mandalorians will hopefully support this sentiment, even though that Minister origins from their opponents, a deserter of the Confederacy. Good. Opportunities should not go unchecked if decadence and decay are omnipresent.

"The Raiders will form a vanguard on the flank and delay any enemy approach. They shall make noise and look important. The Ultimas and Parmas will accompany the main line to form up behind the Raiders. Be aware of our flank position. The Legions ships will stay near the orbit and keep behind the Raider-Enclave line. On my command the Battlefleet will execute a repositioning, be ready to put all energy into your engines. Any questions?"

The channel was open to all bridges of the Vandemarian forces as well as the Enclave flagships, all captains and commanders could hear it, their subordinates as well. The tactic was clear, even though it wasn´t without great risk. But it would best suit the strengths of the Vandemarians and not submit to a standing defense as the Enclave intended. Attacking the attackers where they did not want to fight was much more feasible than sitting like ducks and waiting for them to use all the space they need.

The forces of enlightenment and progress move into battle against those of stagnation and past time.

Panatha System, Orbit over Panatha
Minutes after the orders were given

Nearly simultaneously the ships of the Vandemarian fleet activated its shields and weapon systems, engaging their engines and starting to move, some slower, some faster. It was a well drilled force and the ships were in perfect condition. The hangars opened and the fighter screens came out, the masses of fighters still remaining on stand-by in the hangars.

The three ships of the Ardent Raiders sped up to move into a vanguard formation, their captains known to be calm but bold commanders, Commodore Silas only accepting certain personalities in his squadron. She knew what the High Imperator had in mind and was aware that the first minutes of the engagement were crucial to make it work.

The rest of the Battlefleet followed behind, the two Parma squadrons with each of the three-cruiser teams, two Olympia-classes and one Aresus formed a strike team. The main Battlefleet was commanded by Admiral Erynien and slowly moving into a spread line which pointed away from the planet and main fleet of the Enclave. The ships in an echelon with an anchoring point in front of the Legions ships. Their task was difficult and they would not have a lot of options in the battle to come.

At the anchoring point of the battlefleet line sat the trio of heavy warships of the Legion, the three blue-gold vessels were just sitting and doing nothing else. It seemed lazy, arrogant and menacing. At least as much as hundreds of thousands of impervium and alusteel could seem like that. High Imperator Aurelian Sigismund was personally commanding this force and overseeing the entire battle from the Strategium of the Omnia Vincit, a command center directly behind the bridge.


  • All weapons and shields are activated and charged, the fighter screens are launched.
  • Ardent Raiders speed up to perform vanguard duties to protect the deployment of the main fleet.
  • Main Battlefleet starts moving into position, spreading out in a line pointing away from the planet and angled towards the enemy, the ships in oblique order.
  • Legion ships stay stationary at and shortly behind intersection of Enclave line.
