The corner of Choli's mouth twitched.
"Good," the Warden said, making a quick grab of a scrunchy to quickly braid her hair in a thick plait so as to keep it out of the way before settling her hands back onto the piloting yoke, "Because if the rattling scares you, wait until she starts making new noises."
Laughter echoed within the wide cockpit, the large fishbowl viewport allowing the pair a fantastic view. It was one of the reasons she liked the airframe of the salvaged transport. Fingers danced across the controls, bringing the last of the systems online, the cockpit filling with the familiar glow of displays and status lights while the Sunfire hummed around them like a living thing stretching after a long sleep.
At Trextan's commentary about the view and the company, her eyes flicked sideways -- and just for a second, but long enough for Choli to catch his crooked, roguish grin. Long enough to feel that old warmth trying to sneak past her defenses again.
"Mmhmm." Choli leaned back slightly as the hangar clearance flashed green across her screen. "The view is not bad."
Then she leaned closer deciding to push back with a challenging wink.
"Could be better."
Let see what he makes of that, she mused, her smirk broadening before she pushed the throttles forward.
The Sunfire rolled from the berth and eased toward the opening hangar doors. Outside, stars glittered against the black. The moment the ship cleared the station, Choli gave the controls a little more power. The engines answered with a low growl and the freighter surged forward.
"Alright," she said, settling into her work. "Let's see where this run takes us.."
The stars stretched ahead of them while the cargo sat secure below deck and their destination blinked patiently on the nav display.
And the first time in a long while, the future felt less like something chasing her and more like a route she could choose. For now, that route happened to have Trextan sitting in the seat beside her.
And she really, really liked that.
