Tung was born in the year 824 ABY in the Xiaolangzhèn district (or “Xiao-town”, as many outsiders prefer to call it) of Coruscant’s lower levels; a low-income community founded centuries ago by Atrisian immigrants of the Xiaolang continent. Born to objectively insignificant and strict parents, the Atrisian boy experienced economic hardship and was taught discipline and respect from a very young age. These household values would be further reinforced through study and practice of zama-shiwo and k’thri, martial arts that Tung became passionate about in his youth as a means to vent his frustration while learning to control and improve himself.

However, this relatively simple life would not last. In 844ABY Xiaolangzhèn saw waves of refugees as a result of the cataclysmic occupation of the Atrisia homeworld. Now 20 years old, the young man suddenly saw the streets of his neighbourhood overcrowded and resources stretched thin. Xiaolangzhèn would never be the same. Crime had always existed in the community; a natural product of life in the lower-levels of an ecumenopolis, but things escalated dramatically in the months following the mass-migration. People would fight – even kill – for food, water and shelter. And as the demand for safety raised, gangs formed to meet it.

In the first few years he would embrace the lifestyle in minor ways. Working for a small gang who called themselves Huán Shé (the Ring Snakes), Tung would rough people up in the streets or boost speeders to sell with a few other gangers. The life was not luxurious, but it kept food on the table and for the most part made people leave him alone. It was in the Ring Snakes that he would meet his best friend, Wakino Toru* (or “Tanto” as he calls him due to him being short), a slightly younger Atrisian boy of Kansai descent. Toru enjoyed the thrills of the gang life. Growing up had been much harder for him and, undeterred by his size, he could handle himself in a fight and loved to prove it. Tung, however, saw the whole thing as a lowly means of survival and longed for something more worthwhile. Despite these differences, the two got along and respected eachother.

Over time Tung's business mind would push him towards greater things and he'd begin to develop financial strategies for local merchants, investing what money he could for moderate turnarounds but finding consistent success. Things changed dramatically once more when he caught wind of the rising Tsukasa Gokudō in the area. A family – honour among criminals. He invested himself entirely (not that he had any other choice) and became truly passionate about the Gokudo and what it stood for. Kyushu Tsukasa was a man who carried himself with dignity and Tung saw him as worthy of the utmost respect. His Father.

Over the years he'd apply his business prowess and investment strategies for the crime family, eventually buying out an investment bank in Galactic City to serve as a legitimate business front for himself and the Gokudō. He would go on to climb the ranks from Kumi-in (soldier) to a fully-fledged Shategashira (lieutenant). After Kyushu's untimely demise, Yijun was next in line to claim the mantle of Oyabun. No longer did he dirty his hands with the blood of his enemies, he had men to do it for him when necessary – Wakino Toru among them. His means of financial gain changed from street-level crimes like mugging and theft to long-term investments through venture capital and lone shark deals that could be kept on the book. Yijun Tung had finally found his calling amidst the quiet elite of the Coruscanti underworld.

STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES

Daniel_Wu_2.jpg

+ Business-Minded: Tung has a natural talent for business and commerce, which serves him well in both his legal and criminal dealings for himself and the Tsukasa Gokudō.

+ Martial Artist: Though he prefers to avoid physical altercations nowadays, Tung has trained in the zama-shiwo and k’thri martial arts since childhood and is a formidable opponent when it comes to hand-to-hand combat.

+ - Venture Capitalist: Much of Tung's wealth exists in venture capital, resulting a large amount of his net worth being intangible and fluctuating. While most of it is focused into investments with slow but safe growth, he doesn't shy away from riskier plays that offer faster results; from unproven start-ups with potential to obvious criminal dealings.

- Civilian: At the end of the day Tung is simply a wealthy civilian who appears to make his money through legitimate means. He does not have the backing of a substantial military authority or the immunity offered by reputable government agencies.

- A Reputation to Uphold: Honour is everything and as a member of the Gokudō he takes his reputation very seriously. Everything he has built for himself is on the line if he slips up, forcing him to be cautious when dealing with things directly.

Appreciate it, [member="Jahan the Lion"]! I've always been a fan of simple "low sci-fi" concepts and characters.
