Wolves on Lothal

He walked, seemingly aimlessly, until he suddenly stopped in the middle of the street. Something felt wrong to him. He couldn't immediately place what that something was, but the feeling was there. Something was going on, and it wiggled at the back of his mind. He looked around him to try and see if anything was out of place, but he could feel nothing and see nothing in the immediate vicinity. Spinning about, he looked up at the sky for a moment and then turned his head towards the outskirts of the city.

Though [member="Roshki Belawiiks"] was there, he didn't immediately notice her. She blended in very well with the crowds and he'd not actually met her before, so he didn't recognize her when he saw her and so at first past his gaze over her without a second thought. In fact, as he stood there looking outward, he lifted his helmet and put in place (now he looks like his avatar).

There were speeders for rent across the street from him. He darted across and approached them cautiously. Of late he'd been training with some of the Republic's non-military speeders. He'd gotten a bit of a handle on how to pilot them. His reflexes were pretty good in open terrain, but he wasn't sure about the city. Still, he purchased the use of a speeder he thought looked relatively fast and was about to climb into it when he looked up and finally saw her there, which did give him a bit of a start.

How had he managed to miss her following him?

"While I should chastise you for following me," he said, a bit perturbed, "I think there is something going on and we don't have time for it. That and no harm was done other than reminding me that I need to pay better attention."

He motioned to the other seat in his speeder, indicating that the Togruta should join him.

"We should go. Trouble has come to Lothal."

For once, I didn't have some smart-arse reply or witty comment, though the opportunity was there. I mean, hello! We were both Padawans, which in my mind meant he couldn't chastise me like he wanted. Otherwise I'd have definitely loosened my tongue.

However, the guy had a point. While I'd been following him, I'd sensed...something. Something that wasn't quite right, and clearly he'd felt it too. So as he motioned to the other seat in his speeder I hopped in.

"Some sort of attack, maybe? But who'd want to attack Lothal? I mean, yeah, there's been records of ancient Jedi temples, but..." I shrugged. "The planet is, for lack of a better word, a dump. The natural wildlife is all but ruined, and there's enough pollution to create a mutant species."

My eyes travelled up to the skies, seemingly drawn by a powerful magnet. "And yet, here we are -- and whatever danger is coming. Name's Roshki, but you can call me Ross. You?"

Chevu hadn’t gone to Eriadu. The Mirialan Knight heard about the bloodbath there, a well-organized genocide that the First Order tried to pin on the Galactic Alliance. Their ultimate goal was still unclear, but what wasn’t was that The First Order were very, very bad people. Eriadu was safe for now, but if the First Order was on Lothal, the world was in great jeopardy.

Today, Chevu wore her light armor, with her lightsaber on one hip and Force-imbued discblades on the other, both weapons neatly holstered on her gear belt. She tapped the datalogger on her arm, doing a quick search for chatter over the Holonet. The Outer Rim planet had areas of barren savanna as well as miles and miles of farmlands, but there was always someone tapped in somewhere. She had to run the results through an Aqualish translator, but social media turned up a few hits. Her onyx eyes studied the data, a green-skinned finger to her chin.

“Stormtroopers spotted landing on the plains and heading NorthWest. Don’t know how many, but it’s worth putting eyes on the ground there.”

Seemed Daska Tess had been pulled from her TIE fighter duties with the 181st to be the pilot for the Knights of Ren, in particular [member="Belis Ren"] and [member="Jaron Lesan"]. The dutiful Imperial officer didn't mind though. She enjoyed getting the chance to fly the Prime Shadow as the elite TIE pilot had for these Ren on a previous scouting mission to Dosuun for the First Order. They made her feel like part of the team and not just their lowly servant as some of their peers merely treated her.

"M'lords," Daska greeted Belis and Jaron respectfully as the two masked Knights of Ren entered the cockpit. Blue orbs lingered a moment longer upon the disciple as he took his place in the co-pilot seat next to her, then steely keen eyes went forward to attend to her flight duties; a consummate professional the blonde tried to be.

As soon as her passengers were settled in on the stealth ship, the flight lieutenant feathered the controls with well practiced ease and took the 'Shadow out of the Vindicator's hangar bay. When the transport was past the magcon field, Tess engaged the ship's cloaking device and headed down to the planet's surface.

After dropping off the Ren at the adjusted rendezvous point with the 501st, Tess lifted and re-engaged the cloaking device. She would stay in stealth mode orbiting Lothal until called upon to extract her charges. With the 'Shadow's upgraded sensory array, the lieutenant would be able to spy on any suspect ships across the entire system. Daska would not be bored nor let her time alone in the cockpit be wasted.

[member="Belis Ren"] was either surprised to hear Jaron felt something also, or disturbed. The disciple could not tell based on what the knight said as the voice modulator masked some of the inflection of his voice. What Jaron could make out was the fact the man was concerned about something on the surface. Jaron knew they weren't going down to the planet for aiding the 501st in combat. A mystery surrounded this whole endeavor, and they would uncover it, with [member="Daska Tess"]' help it seemed. Jaron had been prepared to pilot the vessel himself, but perhaps this was for the best. Now he didn't have to worry about putting the seat back in the right spot.

"Lieutenant," Jaron greeted with a nod as they walked up the ramp and into the cockpit.

He felt his eyes linger on him, slightly, before the fire ahead in their usual steeled setting. Daska was always the professional, but Jaron could tell something under the facade she put forward yearned to be more. With Belis accompanying them, however, Jaron would not be able to draw it out of her, as much as he desperately wanted to. Jaron did see it necessary to warn her of what Belis had not spoken yet. Unsure of whether it was meant to be public knowledge or not, Jaron leaned toward caution and for the first time since meeting her, Jaron entered her mind to speak.

// "Don't break your demeanor, Daska. I don't want Belis knowing I've told you this. We felt something, like it is calling to us. This may not be easy, and we may not be staying with the 501st. That's as specific as I can get. We'll know more on the surface. You might have to be ready for a speedy extraction." //

When they reached the surface, Jaron followed behind Belis. Part of him was releived when Daska lifted off and returned to orbit around the planet. He found himself caring about what happened to her, which was odd for him. Dutiful as ever, Jaron remained behind his master and did not speak unless addressed. It was clear who the man in charge was, and that the Ren commanded a higher sense of authority that the captain of the 501st. The old system was still intact then. Jaron smiled under his mask.

"It pulls from the southeast m'lord," Jaron stated when Belis was finished with the captain. "Shall we explore it?"

"While I don't want to kill your buzz here Keira, I do have to have my fingers in the pie that is Antecedent." Patricia said as she wiped her hands of grease from her meal.

"Not that I don't trust you, we just have to ensure that things are done correctly. You know how the criminal world works, you kill one wrong person and then kids are getting gunned down on their way to school from being caught between a gang war." Placing her napkin on her tray a luxury droid servant took the tray and went off to dispose of it.

Patricia thought about things for a moment, while Keira was a friend and a valuable asset, she was a bit brash. She lacked things like restraint when it came to battle, and while she was smart there was no way she could single handedly take down and control the criminal underworld of Antecedent alone. But as luck had it she was never quite alone, at least not these days.

"Tell you what, I'll take care of the casino and get her nice and fixed up. Get some new carpets, maybe put up some drapes, fresh coat of paint, it'll be great." Patricia paused for a moment as she took a drink of her ale.

"You on the other hand will take some commandos and take care of the underworld. I don't need to remind you that this has to be a scalpel level of precision for this operation. Unwanted chaos is bad for business when people are too scared to come out and spend their money." Patricia set her bottle to the side and smiled at her friend.

Patricia looked back at the clones and droids building her new facility, it was always nice to have new areas and places to set up business in. Lothal seemed like it would be a good stronghold for the outer rim when it came to her business. It was always best to do business outside of the core worlds, less laws, less eyes, and more freedom to do what needs to be done. But regardless of all that, Patricia had no idea of what was happening on the dark side of lothal.

This was the type of operation he needed, something simple, something that screamed Star Wars. The light side and hero factions on one side, and the dark side, with their Imperial non-Force users on the other. He grinned as he looked to his student. The First Order had done some nasty damage to Eriadu, but the Alliance was going to win through, just as the Republic had the possibility of defeating the One Sith, and taking the galaxy back from their subjugation.

He hoped that the detachment of Alliance teams would be welcome by the freedom fighters on this world.

When it was time, the helmet would shut over his head and he’d switch to comms, but for now, he was taking in the air of Lothal. “Can’t harm checking it out.” He said, giving Chevu a nod. While they were still in range of the ship, Coren gave Lexi an order, to start hailing anyone who might know something about what was going on and need their help.

“Got swoops, we can get there pretty quickly.” He said, using his implant to open the cargo door to the ShortFin, displaying two of the swoops. “Ready?” He looked to his apprentice.

"I know how it works. This isn't my first time playing this kind of game, and it won't be my last." Despite what most people seemed to believe Keira was capable of exercising a certain restraint when she so chose. That time of choosing just happened to be very slim and nearly nonexistent. "Just let me know who and when." That wasn't obedience shining through so much as a want to accomplish what they had set out to do. It was a mistake to assume her the sort that would go along with orders simply because they were given. She would do things her own way if it better sufficed, regardless of what anyone higher up in the ranks determined was the most functional.

Something pricked at the back of her mind, a feeling she attempted to push away at first, continuing with their conversation as if her ethereal senses weren't currently attempting to determine just what had raised her metaphorical hackles. "We just need to get there before somebody else does. Our old worlds are already under somebody else's control. But I don't think they've gotten as far as Antecedent." The city-planet had been the place to be what seemed like a short time ago, and now it was as if it had never existed in the first place. Now, maybe, they would begin making a different name for themselves. One that boasted some kind of legitimacy.

Her attention broke completely from the words being traded in the next second, and she studied the sky as if searching for the familiar black dots of dropships before standing from her chair and turning to study their surroundings, one hand straying to the hilt at her waist. There was most definitely something wrong, and it was more than just the typical disturbance that ended up being nothing. Because this one was accompanied by the taint of the darkness, however minute the pulse currently was. There was someone here, and that someone didn't want anything to do with those on-planet. "Trouble's here. It's time to go kill something again."

She had a bad feeling in her gut from how quite it was. She just knew all hell was coming, and soon. So, with that, she contacted Lord Lesan over private comms while having her squad halt and set up their two DLT-19's. The other 10 members in her squad crouched low while signalling for the others to do so. Kara, too, crouched down, looking over to a nearby ancient low stone wall that the two heavy blasters were setting up on. To her far right, the rest of the 501st didn't seem to have the same feeling as her.

"My lord, I have a very bad feeling about this. I'm having my squad set up at the low lying stone wall to the far left of the 501st. Do you... sense, anything on that Force Radar of yours, my lord?"

"No." Patricia said to Keira as she sat in her seat.

Contrary to popular belief, Patricia hated the Sith and the dark side of the force. She was strongly force sensitive and could feel the rising tide of the darkside coming to this world, she had been feeling it for a while now. But maybe it was her few years more of experience than Keira but she knew when it was time to raise your fists for violence and when to sit back and watch. There was simply too many unknowns at this point and it only validated her point of Keira's lack of restraint, that a simple feeling of the darkside and she was up and ready to stab someone.

"We don't know what it is Keira, and until we know we will not be sending our children to die. Now I can't stop you from going, and the people of Lothal might be in danger, I don't know." Patricia then looked to Keira with a more serious face.

"But you don't sacrifice a knight for a pawn." Patricia then grabbed a datapad from her purse and placed it on the table towards Keira.

"I implore you to use the probe in the sky we have for overwatch to go and see what is going on. I can not have us risk lives until we know for certain." Patricia said as she inched the pad over to her.

Everything would carry on as normal for the moment, while Patricia didn't enjoy the fact that the citizens of Z Lothal might be in danger this was a neutral planet with ties to many different factions. The republic's Jedi order, rumors of the Galactic Alliance, there was very little to off that the planet was even in danger.

"We have two hundred clones on station along with a hellhound strategic support company of droids, if this is a real threat we'll move in and handle business." And that was going to be that.

Braith, being Braith, was happy enough to be within ten clicks of Corvus, especially standing close enough to receive a smile, but there was still than anxious feeling that fluttered in her gut which kept her uneasy. She wasn't familiar with the planet, or really any planets outside of her home world, so today - and likely every day - was going to be at least somewhat more pleasant than the last, a bit more exciting at that. "Something feels off." She said, looking towards Corvus with a smile that was already beginning to falter. She wasn't sure what it was - the shadow passing over them didn't bode well for the future, either - but she was distinctly aware that there was something amiss. Glancing up to see if the cloud cover was rain, her brow furrowed.

She could feel it, not too far off, there was a presence of some sort nearing the planet. It wasn't particularly clear, maybe it was too far away to get a good grasp of what exactly it was, but it was cold and metallic in nature - perhaps malicious. Whatever it was, or whomever it was, they were not friends of hers, and most certainly not friends of Corvus's. Used to burying her presence in the force, perhaps appearing as insignificant as any normal person, the decidedly unaligned witch kept her eyes to the sky when she noticed what [member="Mantic Dorn"] had - though she more or less felt it rather than physically saw it, resting on the force as she did when performing even the most menial of tasks. "I think you may have visitors, Corvus." Braith noted, though she didn't feel an obligation to point at the speck in the sky so much as she felt a need to remain anonymous in her presence in the force, for now anyhow.

When the words ancient, temple, artifacts, and such were combined, one couldn't really stop Taeli from coming along to explore. The Jedi were trying to locate the old temple that had been here during the days of the Old Republic, but fate had decreed that finding the bloody thing was going to be hard. She had been on the Raven for once, and while her sister's piloting skills had improved as they hadn't crashed when they landed, she was still uneasy for some reason. Maybe it was because she didn't have her own ship or books? Or maybe it was because she had no idea how to strike up a conversation with [member="Braith Achlys"]?

Two locations had some interest though, judging by the scans she had done with the Raven's sensors when they arrived, so while Corvus focused on the finding the place through the Force, Taeli was focused on using science ... when the sensors pinged more than just what she hoping for. Multiple points were heading to the location in the northwest, some sort of old enclave structure ... and in orbit ... oh Force why.

Getting up, she poked her head out from the Raven's hold and called out to her sister [member="Corvus Raaf"] and the others accompanying them.

"Hey sis, I know this was supposed to be a private party to find the old Lothal Temple ... but did you order a Star Destroyer with unknown markings and the plethora of forces it unleashed on a location to the northwest?"

If it was the Sith, it was something brand new to her. Or maybe it was a new faction, emerging from the shadows. She couldn't tell unless they went to where they were ... which they were going to need to. That enclave might have things that shouldn't fall into the wrong hands.

"You got it Commander."

The Mirialan flashed the Corellian pilot a rare smile, followed by a knowing look. Starchaser was a little more than her Commander these days. But the mission was the mission, and as always, Chevu was laser-focused on her duty. Was there mutual attraction between the master and his student? A ridiculous amount. She refused to let it get in the way of what they needed to do. They both did.

Across the arid savanna, the pair rode their swoops, shiny new SH-93 Interceptors, courtesy of Starchaser enterprises. The sky was crowded with unidentified transports. They were getting closer. She saw white dots moving along the horizon, that looked like the formation of troops, establishing a defensive perimeter. The Mirialan stopped her Intercepter and pulled out a pair of electros.

Just as suspected. Stormtroopers.

Sergeant Kara had been poking her head over cover with her own pair of electros, scouting the horizon and Lothal City for any signs of hostility. She spotted a pair of swoop bikes ([member="Chevu Visz"] [member="Coren Starchaser"]) flying about, with a Mirialan woman spying on them. That couldn't be allowed, even though they likely already know the First Order was coming. She kept her eyes on the target while one of her hand went up to a comm unit installed in her helmet.

[member="Daska Tess"] [member="Jaron Lesan"] [member="Belis Ren"] [member="Sibar Laval"]

"All units, hostile scout units spotted in Lothal City. They are in range of DLT-19s, opening fire now."

Closing off her end so she was no longer transmitting, she nods to the twin heavy gunners of her squad, who bot immediately take aim at the two specks in the distance. With no warning other than a simple charged beep from either weapon, they roar to life, sending a storm of red death down range towards the twin swoops.

The fact that a pair of nobodies on a ship that was hard to track were riding on swoops across a world in the middle of nowhere was not really all that fascinating. What might be fascinating is if they were waving around glowing swords and leaping buildings and hurling mountains at people. But no, these two were just sight seeing. The ship was under orders to clear itself from here if something went south, but until then, working on all encrypted communications systems to try to get the Jedi on the wire.

Coren didn’t like the Jedi, but they were hopefully going to stand against the dark side.

The fact that the military were taking the pair as a scout unit wasn’t his fault. But the swoops were really fast, used to move illicit substances through the stress of Nar Shaddaa, away from the wandering eyes of policing units, so he wasn’t concerned. Looking over to his apprentice, and nodding, he hurried to the swoop. “Well, they’re itchy on the trigger today.” He powered up the engines. “Let’s frak with them.” And with that the small swoop's engine started and pushed Coren away from the hot zone.

And see how fast they stop shooting.

The female voice in his helmet - [member="ST-2387 'Patriot'"] - stopped Kyle in his tracks, his head turning slowly to the incline he was on with a squad, and immediately seeing the city boundaries and the targets they had spotted. It seemed the scouts were out, and when scouts were out it meant trouble wasn't far away.

”Get down there and move to the city - eyes peeled remember!”

Kyle wasn't a squad leader, but he knew what to do and what to say when the heat was turned up. He started off with the small wave of First Order troops down the incline, past a First Order landing craft that had another team in, and moved down to where the others were amassing. Blaster fire shot out over their heads to the scouts who certainly took the hint and made a sharp evasion.

”This is Amedis with the White Wolves, heading for the city. You just say the word and we'll follow.”

He was speaking to the other troopers, any Knights of Ren in the area and the Incinerator legion. They were here to flush out the resistance massing in the city, and they were in the best place to do so.

Tachon's cloak swept in the breeze. He realised that he would not go unnoticed forever, so the need arose to enter the city. The idea was to remain undetected as long as possible, so going in the main entrance was a generally bad idea. His helmeted head swiveled to either side. His active-scanning heads-up display pinpointed possible points of enemy activity, but detected no obvious threats. For now. He made his way off to the side. There was no wall, so it was a matter of finding the smallest alley to slink through. The Iridonian warrior blood in him demanded he go in gun blazing. It was a nearly constant internal struggle to remain out of sight, but he had to be smart. He was new to the military environment, and also did not want to be singled out by Force Sensitivity. He was, for most intents and purposes, a normal person with a few talents.

The window presented itself. Quite literally, a building's open window afforded Tachon a way into the city. He crawled through, an luckily found that the building looked like it had been abandoned for a long time. This would serve a good place to collect himself. He pushed himself into a corner and unfolded his wrist, revealing a wrist-comm. It functioned much like a tactical datapad, with more focus on battlefield operations. If someone was looking for the electronics signal, it was there, but that was dependent upon looking. He scrolled through possible marks. Isolated units he could ambush without facing the entire army. A small squad of stormtropers appeared promising. Enough to make a point, but not big enough to be suicidal. He gave himself a nod and folded the piece of euipment away. He'd make his move. Soon.

"I do not know who would want to attack this world, though their motives are moot. They are here."

When she climbed in, he turned his helmed head to glance at her briefly.

"I am Barrien Siegfried, padawan to Grandmaster Raaf. I would suggest holding on. I'm not the best driver."

With that, he floored it and started relying on his senses to feel out the best path for them to head out of the city. More than once they came mere centimeters from crashing into other speeders, or people, or buildings. He really wasn't the great of a driver. They twisted and turned, and his driving probably looked as horrible as a child's would, though they didn't crash into anything, which was a good start. At least it didn't seem like he was going to run them into the ground.

They zipped down one street after another until the speeder raced out of the city and crossed the plains outside. Now he could see others doing the same. He could also see weapons fire not far ahead of them. He could sense two more powerful Jedi in that vicinity so he turned the speeder to the side to race out of line with them. Without all of the buildings, people, and other things, his driving seemed far less erratic, and less likely to get them killed. The same couldn't be said for the stormtroopers that loomed ahead of them.

"Uh oh. End of the line. Not sure why these stormtroopers are attacking since I thought the Empire had joined with the Republic, but we'll sort it out."

They started taking on fire. They hadn't gotten far enough from the others. Bugger, that was.

"Well, let's show them why they shouldn't seek to harm innocent people."

Scattered blaster fire had erupted from the Stormtrooper column, their streaks of pure energy heading towards a pair of swoops that had so far done nothing but be in the wrong place at the wrong time, Belis knew however that the First Order were smarter than that, someone had seen something out of place, something illusive.
He closed his eyes momentarily, no one would know of course thanks to his helm but it allowed him to focus to spread his influence over the Force.
“Strange—“ He muttered, his vocal system barely picking it up, “That is a presence I have not felt since…”
Starchaser.
The last time he had seen Coren Starchaser was when he had infiltrated the Galactic Alliance months before the First Order declared themselves on Eriadu, the young Commander had impressed him then and the fact that he was here would be no coincidence of chance.

“I fear our progress to the ruins may have to be hindered.” Belis regarded the form of Jaron next to him. “Perhaps it is time we revealed ourselves properly.” His hand traced his lightsaber that was clipped to his belt as he focused in on the pair of Force Users attempting to break off from the assault.
“Captain. Maintain your mission perimeters, we will deal with these two.” He paused, almost as if smelling the air. “Be cautious still, there is something else out there…” Another presence. “Jedi.”

If the Jedi were here on Lothal then they would get what was coming to them. The First Order Stormtroopers were all trained to combat Force Users, each fearless at confronting a wizard and their snazzy tricks. Belis had complete faith in the white clad warriors and their ability to handle anything on this world. He had more pressing concerns however.
“Jaron. With me, Let us see what these scouts have discovered.”

There were certain things Keira was well-versed enough in that she didn't want nor require any sort of guidance. This sort of combat scenario just happened to be one of them. Sometimes she just intrinsically knew things without having any further explanation, and right now she was certain that whomever had arrived groundside only intended the worst for those stationed on the planet. Trouble had arrived, and it would be long in leaving if they didn't endeavor to do something about it. But she would play Patricia's game for just a bit longer before heading off, and whether she would be on her own or with a group of trained soldiers at her back remained to be seen. They didn't have much time to wait around.

Taking up the datapad she briefly overrode the systems of the aforementioned probe in order to take control of the systems, directing it towards where she had sensed the encroaching darkness. For a few moments nothing appeared other than the streets of the nearby Lothal city and the empty plains they had currently made station on, but eventually a few white dots that could be discerned as humanoid came into focus, and she zoomed in on the figures, and a slow breath escaped as she recognized them for what they were. Her experience with outright imperialism outside of the Sith themselves had been minute, but she was well-traveled enough to recognize stormtroopers when she saw them.

"I think this is enough of a reason to mobilize." She turned the screen so Patricia could see for herself the legions gathered to storm the city. "And you know what we've both sensed are Sith or somebody close enough that it makes no difference. There are Jedi here as well, I know you've felt that. I'm not one that believes in coincidences. If you don't think this is reason enough to handle things then I'll go off on my own." Not that she really cared too much either way. Regardless of whether Patricia approved or not this threat would be neutralized. The only real variable was whether she would have a group of soldiers to accompany her. "We're here to defend the Republic, and I think this constitutes as such."
