Discussion What's your favourite piece of star wars history?

Both on Chaos and off. I'm talking historical events or specific periods that you think are really cool, had excellent vibes, or really stood out as awesome to you. Full disclosure, I'm interested in this partly because this character is a scholar and I'm looking for more material, but more so I'm genuinely intrigued by the scattered web of history that's floating around in the collective memory about the site's and star wars' lore. With all the writers that have come and gone, and the sheer volume of text, it's been my experience that a lot of lore only really gets passed on by word of mouth more than anything.

So jog those noggins and talk about your favourite bits of lore.

For me it might be the second (or third??) Invasion of Bastion in Chaos lore during the New Imperial era, wherein the Imps recreated a twisted version of Order 66. They had been relying on Sith supporters up to this point, both for strategic and economical reasons, but had always striven to be truly free from Sith control. So when they saw their opportunity, they turned on the Sith they'd harboured in their ranks, betraying and killing them, to became truly independent from their former masters. It was a pretty cool moment that took a lot of coordination and concluded many stories, creating a real turning point in the storyline.

For Chaos it was the Second Sacking of Coruscant. Written in the 2010s (I forget the year, 2015 maybe?) when The One Sith revealed themselves, on Coruscant, in an invasion thread to takeover the planet right from The Galactic Republic who had just defeated The Sith Empire in-character.

On chaos my favorite bit of history is one that I am admittedly biased into enjoying, but it has to be the Brotherhood of the Maw blazing the corridor into the Core. I remember first joining the site right around when the Tython Annihilation was concluding and I went back to read on how it had gotten to that point as a fresh-faced writer on the board and it was truly a great read. Shout out Darth Solipsis Darth Solipsis and the crew who ran that ship, it was truly a great time to be introduced to Chaos.

My favorite real Star Wars era is an odd one, the Pius Dea crusades. A weird era that I think is a little under-explored in legends, but I like the back and fourth between the religious zealots and the Jedi lead coalition of aliens that gave a lot more focus to races like the Kamasi and Herglics. The background lore for the Ords, the Order of the Terrible Glare, the cathedral ships and all that good stuff I think is just real cool. I also like that it isn't explored too heavily either. It makes the era feel more mythologized and open to interpretation.

Easy answer: Battle of Roche around 835 or 836 ABY. The Sith Empire came down the Perlemian, the Republic came up the Perlemian, and the pair of them collided for the first time in centuries in the Roche Asteroids. A highly influential set of prototype fighters got stolen by various people (Sirella's sub, restored by someone else after a site crash), the Sith coup'ed their empress in the middle of everything (Ashin), Mandos weighed in as a serious third party, all kinds of action at all kinds of scales. OOC, it was a full-scale event but player-organized; it was Sirella Valkner Sirella Valkner 's brainchild and a bunch of us helped out with maps and things, keeping everyone aware of everyone near them so it was all relatively cohesive. Five hundred and fifty posts.

I was queing in Aoe2 when I was writing my last post so I am double-posting to add that my favourite period from Canon SW would be in the years leading up to the Clone Wars. The galaxy has been at peace for a thousand years and yet something is not quite right. I love that vibe.

My favourite part of Star Wars lore is probably the history of Darth Malgus, who happens to be my favourite character (until he was narratively murdered by bad writing). The arc with his lover is just so tragic and the core-essence of what Sith actually means. It's a perfect evolution story for a Sith.

On Chaos it's probably the war against the Bryn'adûl. While the Maw was really cool as an antgonist, the Bryn were this outlandish, primordial threat to normal life that it was just fun to fight them. Really amazing faction that Tathra Khaeus Tathra Khaeus created there.

Would need to think about what my favorite for Canon/Legends lore would be, but for Chaos, hands down for me it has to be the Endgame event that saw off the first Galactic Alliance. It was such a culmination of storylines (for me personally, but also others) and an incredible example of collaborative storytelling and organic event development from the community. I think when it was all said and done, it was somewhere close to 800 posts spread across all the major and minor event threads, which was incredible for the time.

Fighting the Bryn is a great answer - it was transformative for one of my main characters at the time and led directly to me creating at least three others, one of whom is becoming a main character now. I know I wasn't the only one who wound up writing a ton of impacts from that stuff.

Being fan of the books that are now legends. My 2 favorite eras are:

1) the period were Boba Fett became Mandalore. He helped rebuild Mandalore, helped defeat the Yuuzhan Vong, trained Jaina Solo so she could defeat her twin Darth Caedus

2) the Jedi Mandalorian War.

As far as Canon & Chaos I don’t know enough to say yet.

On Chaos, personally, the Second Great Hyperspace War was the most fun. It's where I've had most of my development and I think it's a good example of proper collaboration. Post-Tython, Valery also really took over in the GA and I've had some badass moments, and even played a big part in ending that war with the wall of light on exegol.

Other than that, I'd have loved to have been around during the Bryn war. It's very different from typical Light vs Dark, jedi vs Sith, and that would have been fun!

Canon star wars, probably the Old Republic era and Legends NJO.

Mando fan no. 1 here

The Mandalorian Civil War- the 7 day war was great. 14 day war? Whatever it was. But it was such a good storyline, great characters. Everything for a few years after until the Enclave ehhhhhh…. But then the Enclave was a lot of good, smaller stories.

And then the crusader characters. Such a treat to read them.
