Because I'm a plant.
FLASHPOINT: ROCHE
They were nothing but tiny specks in space, insignificant to the eye. They were nothing but rocks, floating among an endless sea of stars. They were the key to fortunes, and the home to thousands of beings. They were the Roche Asteroids. And these little floating rocks could form a rampart, a fortress to lock the Sith Empire out of the Core. The research and production capacity of the Verpine could sway the balance of power to whoever claimed it.

Never before had so many targets, so many potential resources been available -- thanks to the genius of the Verpine. Treasure troves of technology waited to be exploited as dormant factories waited to to be put to use. The industrial capacity of the Verpine hive alone would have been enough to conquer this world, but there was more.

The Sith began to encroach on Roche, sinking their tendrils into the Verpine's territory. Starting with the heavily fortified generator facility, their military forces prepared to move on the remaining prizes. Their politicians, assassins and warriors began to move towards Nickel One, the capital asteroid, as well as the distant fighter production facility. Meanwhile, in a fast frigate, the Empress Herself raced towards the Vault -- and a final confrontation with her most powerful enemy...

The Republic has tried another route, their diplomats sinking their teeth into the politics of the hive negotiating with them. Soon Verpine scientists and engineers were crafting a vessel for use of the republic, a new fighter that they would produce to bolster the war efforts. Through careful planning and delicate work the Republic was allowed to set up an observation base within the asteroid monitoring and protecting production of the precious facility. The republic detected Sith forces on the move, and desperately assembled an Armada to meet them in battle. Coming to the aid of the Republic and her allies within the Verpine assembly was the Jedi Grandmaster himself, destiny bringing him headlong into a confrontation that would shape a galaxy....

OOC Information:

There is a "Map" on the way in the next post, and here I will list all the pertinent OOC details, which are already available in the OOC threads in the various faction areas plus in the "Roleplay Discussion forum." It is highly encouraged that you communicate with other RPers in various factions in the General OOC thread posted there. For fleeting we’re assuming that there is about 30 ships on each side of the battle. Go ahead and bring them in for RPing as needed, just don’t be too excessive.

The Roche Asteroids are the home of the insectoid Verpine, masters of high technology. Two political parties compete within the Roche hierarchy. One supports the Republic and has recently begun working on a new fighter for use by the Jedi Knights and the Republic navy. The other party supports the Sith, and recently developed a new sort of power generator whose prototype is rumored to have incredible potential. Both factions want the industrial strength of the Roche Asteroids. Both factions want the new generator and the fighter production facilities alike.
The Republic will already have advisers at the fighter production facility asteroid, and the Sith will have their own small troop garrison at the generator facility. The plans are in a neutral location, a high-security vault asteroid, and the leaders of both factions are in the Capital Asteroid. Both the Capital and the vault are located between the fighter production facility and the generator facility, at a distance from each other.

Objectives and rewards:
Winning the battle will allow your faction to claim the Roche Asteroids as your territory with a simple thirty post mop up thread. However there are a number of objectives which provide further rewards and help us gauge victory conditions. They are as follows.
1. Secure the prototype generator or deny the enemy of its use (Prize: prototype generator).
2. Secure the prototype plans or deny the enemy of its use (Prize: prototype generator plans).
3. Kill (Sith) or capture (Republic) the local leader of opposition party while keeping your ally viable (If you do this you don't need to do a mop-up thread to claim the Roche Asteroids).
4. Secure or deny the enemy fighter production facility (Prize: special fighter tech entry).

Rules:

You must, at all times, tag your posts in relation to one of the following locations: Fighter Production Asteroid, Generator Asteroid, Nickel One (Capital Asteroid), Vault Asteroid.
Roche G99 (Fighter Production Asteroid) -- A large industrial facility, heavily defended. Possible start point for Republic players.

Roche Hive Research Station (Generator Asteroid) -- A large scientific research base, heavily defended. Possible start point for Sith Empire players.

Capital Asteroid "Nickel One" -- Heavily populated and well defended, home to thousands or millions of Verpine. A gigantic asteroid city.

The Vault (Vault Asteroid) -- Secure storage facility, moderately defended. Its secrecy has been breached by both sides. It contains the plans for the prototype generator.

More detailed descriptions are found at the end of the post, including locations of objectives.

Fleet action and starfighter combat, in and around the asteroids, are permissible. Much of the action will be personal combat inside the asteroids (or between them, if space suits are involved). Of course, those involved in personal combat should be careful not to attract the attention of nearby enemy starships. Remember to check your faction's armory for pertinent information. All "fleets" will need to be approved by event staff for fairness and realism. It is difficult and dangerous to move massive fleets in an asteroid belt.
If you want something to happen, like the fighters be ready to move, or to break down the vault doors, please RP an action and then request in the OOC thread that Event Staff respond, either IC about it, or in the OOC thread giving permission for an action. It wouldn’t really be fair if you just RPed picking up all the resources and leaving now would it?

Remember, a healthy role play is dependent upon a healthy out of character discussion. If you do something that everyone should be aware of, destroy a command ship, kill or maim an enemy leader. Post about it in the OOC thread and let everyone know so they can properly react to events.

Location Descriptions:

Roche G99 (Fighter Production Asteroid): An industrial base in the process of creating a new starfighter for the Republic. Production has only just begun, and none of the new starfighters are ready to fly. The Republic has sent a group of advisors to help aid the project. These stout military men have set up defenses within the asteroid ready to spirit away plans and prototypes should need arise. The vessels however need more time before they can be transported away to safety and will require protection as hostilities increase. The asteroid itself is protected by turbolasers, pop up blasters, and mined passages. It is surrounded by a dense cloud of smaller asteroids, preventing capital ships from getting close. This is a possible starting point for Republic characters not wishing to start with the fleet. Only the inhabited and industrial areas of this asteroid have artificial gravity and atmosphere, forcing any invading force to either assault the frontal bay with its turbolasers and automated defenses, or slog through old mine shafts in near weightless conditions. The fighter and designs represent a huge leap forward in post plague fighter technologies.

Roche Hive Research Station (Generator Asteroid): A science base where a new generator has been developed. The research station has been heavily reinforced by the Sith Empire, and Sith scientists work closely with Verpine inventors to explore the generator's limits. Turbolasers, quad lasers, spacetroopers and an energy shield protect the asteroid facility, and the Sith field hospital is here. The asteroid is relatively small, but it has limited docking facilities for starfighters or personal transports. It is surrounded by a dense cloud of smaller asteroids, preventing capital ships from getting close. This is a possible starting point for Sith characters not wishing to start with the fleet.

Nickel One (Capital Asteroid): Nickel One is the Capital of the Roche Asteroids and the adopted home of the Verpine. Currently the asteroid possesses artificial gravity, and contains an arboretum for political meetings with outsiders, a massive domed garden which takes up much of the asteroid's northern surface. It is in this garden dome that the delegates discuss the future of the Verpine people and where the leaders of both the Republic- and Sith-aligned Verpine factions are in talks. Further this asteroid contains a teeming city with hundreds of thousands of verpine, and their primary munitions factories. A valuable prize for both the Sith and the Republic to be taken as intact as possible. It is located between the Generator Asteroid and the Fighter Production Asteroid.
The Vault (Vault Asteroid): A secret data storage facility, loosely held by Sith-affiliated Verpine. Its secrecy has been breached by both sides. Its defenses include powerful firewalls, and jamming fields powerful enough to disable missiles and starships. It is located some distance from Nickel One, between the Generator Asteroid and the Fighter Production Asteroid. It is surrounded by a dense cloud of smaller asteroids, preventing capital ships from getting close..

GENERATOR FACILITY

On an incredibly fast Dalek-class frigate, slipping between asteroids, the Empress of ten thousand worlds spent a few final moments in meditation. Grand Moffs, Marshals, Sith Masters and other commanders would handle the nuts and bolts of the operation; their expertise surpassed hers in this kind of tactically intensive fight. Her own efforts would be focused on the vault asteroid, a small, secure planetoid whose secrecy had recently been unveiled. An asteroid surrounded by the kind of jamming facility that would disable starships entirely.

She wore a suit of Sith trooper armor, vacuum-sealed. Her approach -- the only safe way to approach the asteroid, once she got to the edge of the jamming field -- would be by spacewalk and by the power of the Dark Side of the Force.

"Empress Desmius to all commanders. The Empire expects that every one of you will do your duty. Remove the Republic's preferred candidate on Nickel One, keep our own candidate viable. And take the fighter production facility. I will personally assault the Vault asteroid. The First Apprentice will employ battle meditation to coordinate you. Trust your instincts, trust your power. You have conquered Dac, Gand, Gravlex Med, Aargonar and Ossus. You took Velmor without firing a shot. You will not be stopped here. Desmius out."

SPACE - IMPERIAL PICKET LINE

The Pellaeon-class Mk II Star Destroyer Adjudicator came out of hyperspace on the opposite side of battle from the main Sith fleet. Fighter squadrons began pouring from its hangar to form a defensive screen around the vessel as it churned through space in an effort to circumvent the main battle and head toward a far more strategic target.

Aboard the bridge, Seth Shorn, Praetor of the Royal Guard, stood silently, gauging the progress of his plans as they were set into motion. He felt an absence and knew it to be his yearning for reconnection with the Force. His bridge was filled with ysalamiri pods, creating a massive bubble around the bridge, preventing any of his officers from being influenced by the Force. It was a perhaps unlikely thing, in the case of the Jedi, but Seth had read of their Battle Meditation being used not only to support their own fleet, but to assail the spirit and resolve of their enemies. Shorn would see no such thing done on his ship.

All hands were already at battlestations. No need for unnecessary orders. They came prepared. Within the magazine storage, the Adjudicator held a great many capital ship grade proton torpedos, as well as flak shells, and two baradium bombs should they be needed. Seth thought the likelihood for their eventual use high indeed. This was the first real clash of the two powers since the eight hundred years of darkness. It would set the tone for a hundred years more, perhaps a millenia.

Seth saw that the progress was satisfactory and moved down to the hangar bay, where two of his Royal Guards stood waiting as well as their crimson painted TIEs. Shorn would be returning to the chaos of the dogfight once more. The Republic had long been known for their prowess in starfighters. Seth knew firsthand. He sought to counter their experience as he, after all, had been among their number once, in another life.
He clambered into the cockpit and engaged sublight engines. The whined to life and the TIE disengaged from its docking clamp, dropping into space. Seth's wingmen waited on either side. Shorn felt anticipation and nervousness crawl through him. They would all remember this day.

Monty stood in full Mark II armor with a charged S4 rifle in his hands and a S-6A heavy blaster on his side. He glanced around cautiously from behind his Recon helmet and scanned his surroundings carefully.

Ripples were permeating throughout the force and his padawan level force sensitivity could detect it. He gripped his rifle over and over again, feeling the anticipation.

He keyed to his aunt and CO from his position in one of the lightly guarded forward outposts

"Ma'am, something's up. I don't know what it is but something is definitely up."

The young medic looked to his companion with a bit of fear. Two vs a potential army? Not good odds.

"Fleet, this is Lord Velok. I am taking position over the fortified generator research facility with the Star Destroyer Reviler. I will form the core of the defensive position."

The Pellaeon II-class Reviler, the Sith Empire's heaviest gun platform by far, hovered beside the generator facility. There was no point in leaving your team's flag undefended, and there were plenty of ambitious Sith and other Imperials to take other targets. The huge old ragged Whiphid stalked the bridge of the Reviler. It wasn't like him to simply wait for prey.

But he could wait, with his gigantic gunship of a Star Destroyer. He could wait.

Space, on route to Roche

"All crews reporting, Admiral," the aide informed him.
"Excellent. All craft prepare to jump to hyperspace. All attack wings, be prepared for when we emerge."
The Republic fleet was sitting in the depths of space close to (relatively anyway) the asteroids. But now they vanished into hyperspace. It would not be long before they arrived and the battle began....

Near his empress onboard the ship, Zaiden stood at the ready. He had on his Demon Armor, faceplate in place his voice growled out demonicly, "Empress, whenever you are ready, I will accompany you, of course once the fighting has begun I will do my best to assist you as well."

He bore on his hips both of his fathers sabers, in hidden compartments were his Darkestnite Saber as well as his Shadow Dagger. He drew up his hood, ready to do his walk into the battle..

NICKEL ONE - GARDEN DOME

Clad in battered armor, Mikhail watched the verpine. Bugs. He hated bugs. He glanced up a the dome above. They stood in a massive garden. It was beautiful, for the moment, but the Sith had arrived and Sith seldom left anything beautiful in their wake. He shifted in his armor, still claustrophobic as ever. Sweat beaded his forehead and his breath felt hot on his own face within the helmet. The heavy armor had taken some growing used to, especially when wielding a lightsaber, but he learned long ago that not wearing it gave him more scars than he liked. His style of lightsaber combat tended not to keep blasterbolts away.

Hanging on his belt, Derriphan seemed restless. It wished to kill. Mikhail waited for orders. Soon, soon they would kill. His target was the Republic representative on Roche. Kill, or capture, those were the parameters. Shorn planned on doing whatever was easiest. No sense in preserving life which would only be put to horrific torture at the hands of Shorn's fellow Sith.

Below Mikhail's feet and deep within the asteroid's surface, Shorn could feel the thousands of lifeforms. In order to get to the actual city of Nickel One and not the garden dome he would have to take a rail car far into the core of the asteroid. That was where the munitions factory would be. However, for the moment, his mission was still on the representative.

His comm buzzed.

"Go for your friendly neighborhood Sith."

There was a pause, no doubt filled by an unamused grimace, then, "The mission is a go."

"Gotcha. Shorn out."

The comm clicked off. Mikhail's lightsaber clicked on. With a snap-hiss the violet blade sprang to life. Mikhail waded into the startled verpine nearby, immediately striking down the two closest guards who were aligned with the Republic. Their severed heads fell with thuds upon the grass. Above, in the stars, a battle began to rage. Shorn felt alarm began to flow through the entire Roche Asteroids. Derriphan hummed with glee in his hands. Mikhail resumed killing.

Space: Republic Lines

Admiral Jonathan Walsh smiled as he looked out... The rocks full of so much promise... and a new fighter which he wanted, He had a reputation to keep with having the best fighters in the republic, and he would keep it. He had personally configured the standard configuration of his fleets fighters, and he needed to get inside the new fighters. He couldn't wait. But first he had to make sure they were safe.
" Begin movements, I want patrols around the the fighter facility, and support there to back them up."

John sent a comm to the sith. " If you proceed to near our facilities, I will be forced to engage, Please cease and desist all activity in the vicinity of Roche G99 Any approach will be seen as an act of war, and the violators will be fired upon. "
John smiled as his patrols started, While capital ships couldn't near the facilities, his fighters could, and they were the best damn fighters in the Republic. John couldn't wait for his fighters to engage the sith, he sort of hoped they started the war. He wouldn't attack unless they violated his clear warning.

In the frigate's meditation room, Ashin turned to @[member="Zaiden"].

"Thank you, Hand, but the task I face is mine. I'm virtually certain that the Jedi Grandmaster and I will meet in single combat. I want you and @[member="Eldoc Quasat"] to ensure that nobody disturbs us, and to be sure to take the plans that are stored in the Vault asteroid."

A communication from @[member="Jonathan Walsh"] was patched through.

"Thank you, Admiral, but that is not to be." Their frigate was very fast; it would reach the Vault long before the Republic ships of the line could get there. Other Sith vessels were fairly obviously bound for the Republic-defended facility at G99.

-NICKLE ONE ASSEMBLY-

"Everyone check in." Jesta said on his private comm, the cassius seven were at it again. But this time the risk were high, and the importance of this mission was unquestionable. Walking next to the lightly far behind the republic dignitary 'Alec Mason.' Making sure to seem more like a regular politic than a soldier the members of him team all checked in. 'Brutus 1, in position. Galba 3, standing by. Quintus 4, awaiting command. Basilus 5 I've got eyes on everything. Longus, guarding.' His men all reported in and Jesta chuckled. Walking down the red velvet carpet keeping an eye on everything. "Cassius on stand by, you know the drill boys." Jesta said quietly. Mason then walked through two large doors and into a large circular room with seats all around and large glass windows in the back. Alec was supposed to be discussing terms with the Sith empire and Jesta was there as a regular politic. Walking to the check out Jesta was stopped by a guard. 'Id sir.' He asked sternly. Jesta puling out his ID and waved it at him. The guard shuddered. 'Oh my apologies senator, please go in.' The man bowed and Jesta walked past him and shadowed Alec. He had seven body guards each equipped with pistols hidden in their suits...jesta smiled and sat a few rows behind Alec and watched everything in the room quickly. Waiting for the assembly to start.

It all came to this it seemed. His fights with the Sith on Junction, the battle against Omni, fighting hordes of Sith Spawn on Rhammamool, even fighting the Empress on Antar 5 of all places. The war with the Sith had begun. In truth, it hadn't officially, but he knew it had, the Jedi knew it had, and the Sith knew it had. The nature of Sith were that they would always be at war until the Sith or the Jedi were exterminated for while or so, then the battle would begin anew as old ideas rose to popularity in new places. It was a war he hated, but a war he had to fight, for he knew the consequences of failure.

I won't let the Sith hurt them. He said to himself, thinking of all the men and women he knew as he got into the cockpit of a U-wing.

Next to the pink Jedi Master stood a young man of normal stature, his face was cloaked by a hood with his hair and eyes barely peeking out. On the belt of his robes sat a long hilt for some kind of lightsaber and in his right hand was a deck of cards which he shuffled over and over again between his fingers. He let out a slight yawn at the current situation, though he said nothing else. The young man of course was Nikolai Siviyr, the somewhat famous Magician turned Jedi padawan. He was here at the begging of the Jedi Order, he was here to fight the Sith.

He had already had one run in with a Sith at one of his shows, and that had not been too pleasant for him. He hoped that this time it would go better...or at least there would be less innocent death...though he doubted that would happen as well. The young Magician turned to the Zeltron Jedi master, shuffling the deck of cards in his right hand. He watched as the man stepped into the cockpit of a fighter.

"Good Luck Master, may the force be with you." Nikolai simply said. He doubted the man even knew his name but it was never a bad thing to wish someone luck. THe young magician had his own way to reach the battlefield, though it didn't involve a starfighter...unfortunately Nikolai had never been taught to fly one.

"Yes empress @[member="Ashin Varanin"]." Zaiden said with a nod.

His master and himself once again working together, he liked that. They would kill many this day, and he would help bring the plans home. It would be a challenge, this he knew. But he would succeed.

"Master @[member="Eldoc Quasat"], you can now see how much I have grow since our last battle together." He said, he drew his energy inside himself becoming nearly invisible to those around him. Only those who recognized his signature would be able to sense it at all.

Space, arriving near G99

With a jolt, Admiral Stahlmann's flagship 'Indomitable' emerged from hyperspace. Coming in on a straight heading behind G99 he would be in range very soon.
"Good day, Admiral @[member="Jonathan Walsh"]. I have brought reinforcements. Please provide me an update on the enemy's progress."

G99 - FIGHTER PRODUCTION ASTEROID

Hion hummed to himself as the warning sirens alerted everyone to the impending attack. For some time he expected this to come, now everyone's worst nightmares were coming true. Beside him, Lysander seemed eager for battle.

"Let them come! We shall meet them and wipe their stain from the galaxy."

Big, black eyes turned to the golden haired human. "Hauum, yes Lysander. I too desire the inevitability to cease being inevitable and start being actual." The saucer-plate eyes turned toward the distant asteroids. "Shall you join in the assault on the generator?"

SPACE - APPROACHING NICKEL ONE

"We have a very special mission. I shouldn't need to tell you that, but I am, just in case." Tyrin addressed the four Sith Assassins crowded into the small transport shuttle with him.

Tyrin's mission was not one most Sith would jump for, but it was a necessity and so he had opted for it. It was high time he did his part for the Sith, so this was how he was going to do it. He was better suited for the job anyways: he wasn't the type to get all anxious and whatnot from being idle. However, Tyrin did not want to be alone in this. Hence why he was bringing a few friends from his days at the Umbaran Sith academy. These guys were ruthless- maniacs by some standards, even. But they were reliable and professional. Much like Tyrin, come to think of it. He credited the Umbaran Sith academy with endowing him with a good sense of utilitarianism.

"While our friends and colleagues are running around, drenching themselves in blood and collecting skulls, we will be ensuring the safety of our Verpine ally. I'm sure you're all familiar with the leader of the pro-Sith political faction here in Roche." Tyrin didn't think much of this particular Verpine. Illick, he believed his name was. Clearly he had the sense to side with the Sith, so he probably wasn't all too bad.

"We will be on bodyguard duty, so we will not be troubling ourselves with any skirmishes that break out on our way to meet Illick. When the ship lands, activate your cloaking devices, obfuscate yourself in the force, and proceed quickly and quietly to the designated rendezvous point."

Tyrin tapped the cloaking device on his belt as he mentioned it. Lovely device, too bad it was a rental. Maybe he'd get to keep it if his performance was satisfactory. He was doubtful of it. Even if he did well, this wasn't the kind of hardware normally entrusted to Apprentices. The ship rocked slightly, and the pilot called back that they were docking now. Excellent, Tyrin was itching to get out in the field. Even if he wasn't necessarily doing anything important, the simple thrill of being able to claim participation and contribution was more than enough.

Enough for him, at any rate.

Jinn walked slowly through the streets, his eyes studying the insectoid inhabitants of the asteroid. His mission was to hit the munitions facility while Shorn worked to deal with the Republic representative. The plan was that if either Sith finished his mission first, he would move to assist the other in their duties. The rail car to the munitions facility would be easy to access since a little espionage work just happened to find the system guarded by Sith aligned Verpine. The problems would start once he moved into the core of the asteroid and met resistance from the Verpine who were not aware of the coming battle.

Jinn moved up to the rail guards, giving them only a slight nod as he moved right past them as if he were a ghost. "Mission is green." Jinn said into his comm, notifying Shorn, the Empress and any other operatives on the asteroid.

SPACE - IMPERIAL FLEET

Kaine paced back and forth across the bridge of his flagship, the Invictus-class Star Destroyer, Infidus Diabolus II, and while it was not as powerful as a Charon-class or a Pellaeon-class Star Destroyer, it felt more at home with him. He had owned this Star Destroyer for a long time now, in fact it was the first of its kind ever made, and Kaine had gone out of his way to make it his. The interior hauntingly reminded one of an old monastery, an eerie feeling permeating throughout the entire ship, and that's exactly how Kaine wanted it to be like. It reminded him of his estate on Thyferra, and his palace on Thule, creepy and awe-inspiring, and it would taste the blood of Republic dogs this day. He only waited for the moment to strike, but he did deploy all of his fighter complement if they engaged the enemy forces, as fighters would fare better between the asteroids than the capital ships would. "My heart yearns for the call to war, I pray I do not have to wait longer.... So great in my hunger for bloodshed!" Kaine proclaimed as he stared out of the viewport, the crewman sparing a quick glance at their Lord before turning back to their diligent work.

Soon...
