I still don't know what the Bryn'adul are besides the crab people memes but he remindes of the Red Lantern Corps every time I see him so Tathra gets my vote for "post you should read" too.

Most Minor Factions don't go anywhere.

Even fewer become Major.

Even fewer than that remain relevant for more than a month.

Don't beat yourself up about it. This has probably been said 10000 times already, but focus on writing and having fun. If trying to build up a faction isn't bringing you joy, just take a step back and breathe. Consider taking a break or trying something else for a while, and then maybe come back to it when you're relaxed and confident.

That base idea won't go away. It won't collapse if people want change because change is slow. At the same time, isn't this Chaos RP? Isn't it supposed to be chaotic? It'd be awful boring if everyone had to stay on one path to join a faction, right?

Hah. If only you knew.

I have a serious question : what is going Major going to do for your faction?

What's wrong with being a minor faction? Minor factions are really where it's at but what do I know, I'm just an old lady.

You said it yourself: your faction can be anything. There's your problem.

Here's a little insight into human psychology. Unlimited options aren't actually fun. People like being given clear direction and vision.

Artistic constraint actually stimulates creativity. You'd do well to remember that.

Also, you don't seem like a writer who is particularly easy to work with. Change that.

Actually, maybe someone SHOULD tell you what you THINK everyone else is saying: give up.

You are too invested in this. Step back, take a breather, do something else. You are needlessly hostile towards those who are trying to help you get out of this rut and refuse to listen when they give you some really solid advice. You see only what you want to see, and if your best efforts have led you to this point where you throw a childish and pathetic temper tantrum on a site about Star Wars fan fiction, then maybe you should rethink what the hell you are doing.

Cut your losses. What little respect I had for the faction you tried to establish is practically destroyed.

You are the captain on a sinking ship. Now comes the time where you decide if you want to drown with the vessel or get on a lifeboat. That choice is yours.

I'm going to be looking at this from a slightly different angle, what advice I'd have given has well been covered by now by everyone above; However, I wanted to respond to this coming from the angle of a former Major Faction Owner having pretty much made a play that failed miserably.

We make attempts, some workout and some don't go to plan but Chaos goes on and we remain. Things don't have to be rushed and if things feel bad now, that doesn't mean they won't improve over time. You've made quite an impression here in this thread but if you put in the work you can potentially make a comeback, providing you listen to those trying to help you and pace yourself.

If you've got the foundation down for your faction, as well as the advertising then I agree with the others in saying build the In Character story surrounding your character, faction and faction members. Make an IC Impression, as much so as you've made an OOC one.

Sometimes things go to chit, but new opportunities arise sooner or later. You don't have to be a major faction right off the bat either, someone above has suggested minor factions being the bee's knees on Chaos and they're not wrong. You could build some massive rep as a minor faction, just as much so as you can as a Major, the only difference is you don't risk losing as much as you might while playing the map-game.

Sometimes it's best to just take a loss, if not only to learn from it and up your game.

It may not feel like it but you are getting some really good advice from very good sources here. Discouragement is understandable, its something you love that you have built and you want it to succeed and nobody doubts your passion. Like others have said, roleplay is key. Get into threads if you want exposure, meet the other factions and interact with them. Get the writers you have into threads. That is the absolute highest priority you have as a leader, steer your faction where it needs to go.

Mate, you give me too much credit. I haven't done as much as you claim I have. It's mainly been all you dude. I've always been just sort of there.

As for what you can do, a lot of people here have given great suggestions, and anything I say would just be reiterating their points and arguments, so there isn't much else I can say other than listen to them. They spent their time reading and responding to your post with actually very helpful advice. At least give them a chance.

I find keeping an open mind on things serves quite well.

Leadership is hard. Having a vision and implementing is hard. Temper tantrums are easy, but worse than ineffective. Don't do it, it will not help your case. If you're frustrated, take a step back-breathe-and remember that this is just a game. Then come back and try something else.

As others have stated, codex and factory submissions do not a playable faction make.

RP truly is king. It's your best, and really only way to attract players.

Write stories and take your time!

I truly think that starting any minor faction with the explicit intent of going major is setting yourself up to fail before you've even started. Write some stories, make some friends, listen to some ideas and incorporate the good ones! People love to see their ideas come to life!

Do those things, and listen to what the others are telling you and you have a fighting shot. That being said, nothing is guaranteed. It's better to accept that now. Anywho, just a few thoughts.

Good luck with everything!

Heath Valhoun Heath Valhoun Everyone else has given such fantastic advice already, but there's one point that perhaps could be addressed.

You mentioned the faction's goals being to bring down various major factions on the board. Here's the big thing about Chaos. You can't force your narrative on anyone else. If you want to go head to head with all these factions, you have to not only have the writers with the stomach for that sort of thing, but these other factions have to also be on board with this idea. If they don't want to be, then you don't really have that option, especially as a minor faction.

Were you a major, you could sling invasion after invasion, all the while blaring your narrative from the rooftops. Only, when two different ideas come clashing together in that form...well, let's not get into that. It's never pleasant.

You mentioned your faction was a nomadic fleet, correct? So here's some solid advice. Do what a nomadic fleet would need to do. Jump from station to station, picking up resources. You need credits, people aren't going to be able to eat ideals, after all. You need to maintain ships, and armor, and weapons. Perhaps explore that aspect.

While this whole nomadic thing is great, humans are creatures of habit, and generally, everyone wants a place they can kick their feat up, even if it's only for a little while (airport lounges being the prime example of this, I'm onto you Priority Pass). Turn looking into a place to drop the landing gears and put down on a planet into an overarching plot.

Sure, neither of the above was maybe what you're going for, but it could be an angle that works for you. Your faction's defining point isn't that it's a constitutional monarchy or anything like that, but the fact that it's a nomadic fleet and has a lot of opportunity for RP that a lot of other factions don't quite have. Now, if this is outdated information, feel free to toss the plot advice out the window.

That's my two cents, in the end, no one here can make the choice for you. You've got a lot of thinking to do, and a few decisions to make. Final word of advice? Step away from the keyboard the moment you feel yourself getting frustrated. It's fantastic advice to give that's not always easy to follow, and I sure as hell don't follow it as much as I should, but keep it in mind.

i mean i think building something up from the ground as a roleplayer is cool but as a lot of others said you need direction. if you have a group of even just 100 what happens when they each pull a different way as your saying. its falls into one hot chaotic mess.
also toxic post like this are bad we come to have fun and go through pain we can walk away from if you post drama your group looks like its full of drama. Do you want the thing you injoy to cause you pain? the answer is no. Look for anyone drifting. Lead factionless members to your group. And work that back story baby! whatever it is needs a reason it cant just be because it can be. Everything has its storm. Depending on the person they use it different. It can make them or it good or bad. Its a driving force for what is happening so like i said. Flaunt that backstory. (I wanted to put this up earlier but got busy.)
