Private The Crossroads Contract

Lia Corrin

Chief Executive, Crossroads Defense Industries
“This is a highly classified military project, much of your daily activities outside the lab are subject to scrutiny and surveillance,” Lia said as the shuttle began to slow down and come in for a landing, “Speaking of which, we’re at your new quarters.”

Lia allowed her to take a look out of the windows as the shuttle circled once, and then came in for a landing at a large landing pad, surrounded by green grass with a stone pathway leading down towards a house nestled amongst well-manicured tropical fern bushes and high grasses along the pathway. Behind the ship was a large jungle-covered extinct volcano, with palm trees all around this clearing. The sound of the waves and of tropical birds was easy to hear as the hatch opened, signaling how nice a place Lia had picked out.

"Welcome to Crossroads-3, or Pianta as we normally refer to it as. Shall we?" Lia said as she stood up, and started out.

"We've set you up as a four and a half thousand square foot two-story, three bedrooms, four bathrooms, a kitchen, an office, a craft room you can easily turn into a laboratory, an entertainment center, a pool, and a stretch of beachfront property eight acres square. There's a speeder in the garage, and next to the garage is a fully-stocked and planted herb and vegetable garden with a small orchard in your side yard. This is all pretty standard for houses like this in the Crossroads Republic," Lia explained as she opened the door into the house by just walking up to it, "The town of Powliani is down the road which is a popular trade port. So, what do you think?"

Lia wasn't kidding, the Crossroads Defense Industries personnel department didn't hesitate to throw down some cash to insure their goals were met and that they got the real talent. This house, more like a small mansion, was evidence of that.

Liddaat was speechless. She had never dreamed of having this much all to herself. "This is standard? My neighborhood back home was smaller than my backyard here! Thank you. This is..." She shook her head, at a loss for words.

"Well, this is high middle class," Lia laughed, "Remember, you have neighbors up and down the beach, and occasionally the local Piantans and Delfinos will come sailing up and down the beach or in carts selling fruits, fish, seaweed, shellfish, and other souvenirs. It's a very friendly neighborhood to be certain. But if at any point you feel like you need one, just ask and a security detail can be arranged for you," she said while continuing through the living room to the backyard, which overlooked the palm beach and the ocean.

“Why don’t you take the day, go explore, get a feel for the area. Tomorrow the shuttle to work will be at the marina in town to pick you up and the other people who live here,” Lia offered.

If you want I can RP some throwaway NPC's in the town if you want some calm everyday-life sort of RP, or we can timeskip to Liddaat's new job.

"Alright, I'll be at the lab tomorrow to go over a report from the facility manager, I'll meet you at your lab and check on your progress," Lia offered as she went to the door, leaving a pair of keys to the house and the speeder on the table.

The road to the town was windy and peaceful, passing several farms and orchards with stands along the sides. It was as pretty and perfect as could be. Although she did pass a military column of local troops, on the march as part of their regular reserves training. The bright green camouflage being perfect for the area, and several of the young troops saw the pretty girl their own age and made a point of trying to show off and appear more manly.

The town itself was as humble and beautiful as any town, but without the lawlessness of Wild Space. The buildings were primitive-looking, no duracrete, no durasteel, no large glass edifices. Just brick, tile, stone, and wood.

The townsfolk, mostly Delfinos and Piantans, were out and about, selling their wares or out buying. There were several dozen other species, making the town a rainbow tapestry of the old and the new. Liddaat’s speeder wasn’t alone, with other speeders being present, right alongside a bunch of other carts and wheeled vehicles.

There smells and sights unique to this place, and this place alone. One could hardly imagine that such a place was governed by a government of immense military might. The calm and serenity only being disturbed by a flight Banshee starfighters zooming overhead at ten thousand feet.

"Fresh fruit! Fresh fruit!" a Delfino said from a stand where several crates of fruits, including a fruit Liddaat would have recognized, Yogans, but these ones were quite large, almost twice the size of those found on Lothal.

"Good afternoon," the Delfino said to her, and showed her his wooden price sign, "Two credits per pound for my Jogans, grew 'em myself," the tubby blue being said proudly, and brought out his primitive weight scale.
