Private The Crossroads Contract

“This way,” Alask started to lead her out, taking her straight to the hatch which opened up into the reception area, “Alright kid, don’t go creating a plague now,” Alask smirked to her as he reached the end of the line for their escort duty, covertly slipping his number into the bag which had the clothes that she’d been provided for the few days she had been aboard.

"So? How about we head over to my shuttle and I'll show you to your new place?" Lia offered with a smile, "I'm quite confident you'll find it to your liking before we go to your lab," she said, and turned to her left, making a move for her to follow.

The two women soon found themselves before a Type-31 Shuttle Liner, a large and rather luxurious craft which was undoubtedly quite impressive as Lia led her aboard the finely-decorated ship which was sleek modern and business-like. It had a few cabins in the back, a dining hall with attached small kitchen, a few store rooms, and a large lounge with just aft of the crew quarters behind the cockpit. An all-metal logo of the Crossroads Defense Industries was in behind them as a lawyer was waiting for them, a datapad with the non-disclosure agreement ready and waiting.

"Why don't you go ahead and read that and sign it," Lia said as she walked in, taking a cup and filled it with some tea, it was too early to drink anything alcoholic, "Once you've done that I'll give a low-down on your first project."

"You can take off now pilot, take the scenic route, activate all external and internal jammers please," Lia said on the comm which was attached to the side table she sat next to.

"Yes ma'am," Lia's pilot responded as the shuttle vibrated minutely as it powered on and a blue light turned on above them, signaling the fact they were now totally isolated, no one would be listening in on the conversation.

"Now, to begin with your first major project," Lia pulled out a tablet and turned it around to show it to her guest, it was a military file, with the words: Special Access Program: Project GHOST on the screen, "Are you familiar with mental capacity transfer and interfacing theory?"

“Actually no, what we’re working on in Project Ghost is the ability to transfer, not destroy or use,” Lia explained, “In the case of Project Ghost, it is to create the perfect infiltrator, invisible, untouchable, and unstoppable,” Lia explained.

“Life...exists in many shapes and sizes, you know,” she began again, “But recently we discovered it exists in many different materials, including absolute-zero condensate, the opposite spectrum of but working on the same theory as plasma. We believe we can transfer a person’s consciousness into one of these condensate shells. But we’ve hit a snag,” Lia admitted.

“The consciousnesses that we have managed to have transferred end up...irrecoverable, and the condensate shells become aggressive and uncontrollable monsters,” Lia responded.

“We dealt with the problem, no problems currently, except for this obvious snag,” Lia assured her, “You won’t be walking into a crisis. If you were I’d have kept those operators with us.”
