Theo is the 'peak Thyrsian' in his view. Ever since his youth he had been raised to have a thirst for battle and glory. He prepared himself by wrestling with the other children as a child, then learning how to truly fight from his father and the battlemasters. He quickly developed the aspiration to become stronger -- the strongest and most skilled warrior in the galaxy, in fact, and he has always been searching for ways to prove it. To achieve this goal there is no boundary he will not cross and no rule he will not break. His singular focus and drive makes him a dangerous and unshakable opponent in combat, and leaves little room for distractions or imperfections.

Still, he has enormous respect for others who seek the same goal as he does. Meeting kindred spirits in other warriors is half the fun. No matter race, gender, or creed, Theo respects all who have the will to fight and drive to improve. While many Thyrsians hold grudges against the Echani or rivalries against the Mandalorians, Theo does not care for such things, though he does recognize them. When he defeats a worthy opponent he often is willing to allow them to live and to continue improving and growing. He often praises his opponents for their skill, valor, and reputation.

Theo outside of combat -- which he is rarely -- is just as loud and boisterous as he is on the field of battle. Every emotion is exaggerated and raw. Theo is never dishonest and is completely pure in his motivations and intent. When he wants something, he takes it. When there is something to be said, he says it. Only the most extraordinary of circumstances will cause Theo to fall silent.

    • Darth Carnifex, Sith Emperor
    • Escanor Ragnos, Spear of Thyrsus

[ Writing Notes ]

This section is for my OOC notes about the character's themes, motivations, and focal points for writing. Not necessary to read, but I think you might find it interesting to dive into the character! Maybe if I die, this will be the way for someone else to take over writing this guy. (Oh, and shameless bump.)

Guiding Questions:

  • What is a hero?
    • Current Answer: "A hero is someone who can achieve things that no one else can."
  • What should a person be willing to do to achieve greatness?
    • Current Answer: "Anything and everything."
  • What is the nature of war and violence?
    • Current Answer: "War is where all of us can best express ourselves, to tell the truth of our being and to prove our strength and resolve. No other pursuit is worth my time."
Goals:
  • Become the greatest warrior in the galaxy.
  • Fight the greatest warriors in the galaxy.
Imagery, Diction, and Focus:
  • Thyrsians notably have enhanced eyes after experiments by the Arkanian geneticists. A primary focus for posts -- particularly combat -- are the visual experience of Theo. He can notice the way his opponent's eyes move, their grip tightens, or their weight shifts. These sorts of things can inform how he acts. As he is no stranger to combat (it is deeply ingrained in Thyrsian culture), another focus can be translating those signs into actions.
  • As is with any good Thyrsian, the Twin Suns are very important. Images of fire and the sun combined with strong but irregular verbs (e.g. blaze, ignite, kindle, incinerate) to describe otherwise regular actions can show both the culture and Theo's sense of self. There are also some great quotes about fire that I love to sprinkle into my posts.
  • Theo is very simple, and outside of those combative moments there should be a simplistic feeling to the writing. Theo has found a good sense of self and is far from unstable. It should be clear from the writing that his focus is on the task at hand. Theo wants for nothing aside from a good fight.
Inspiration:
  • Theo holds a very Ancient Greek-esque view of heroism -- a hero is someone who can do great things, not necessarily someone who is moral. In that vein he views even people like Emperor Carnifex as heroes simply because of his power, intelligence, and list of great feats.
  • Like Goku from Dragon Ball, Theo's primary goals are to fight strong people and get stronger. In his view there is simply nothing else worth pursuing. But unlike Goku, Theo is liable to lose a lot against much more powerful opponents, and he will not break power ceilings in quite the same way.

Arc:
  • Unlike many characters, Theo has a flat arc -- he will not change from the beginning to the end of his story. Thus, he has no lie that he believes about the world/himself, only a truth: "Combat is the purest form of expression and the only pursuit worth my time." He is complete. He will move around and his story will end with him in a different place, but his fundamental being and beliefs will not have changed. His story will primarily make him overcome more literal obstacles, as well as change the world and characters around him. He is the impact character -- his opinion of the story's central question does not change.
    • Change to Setting: In a galaxy filled with war, another warrior on the field of battle will not make much of a difference, but someday he may become a name recognized by many, and another staple of the power of Thyrsus.
    • Change to Characters: Theo is much like a shounen protagonist, as well as a paragon of his beliefs. The best way that he can change others is to remind them of what is important. His single-minded drive and focus can inspire others to do their best and excel in their field. When being a supporting character, Theo can be an ever-present and loyal companion. As an antagonist or opponent with no morals or qualms about doing evil, Theo can become a more physical representation of the protagonist's struggles.

To be continued.
