DESCRIPTION
The TSFW-SG/02 Combat Powersuit; Gilgamesh Pattern was the newest armoured regalia that would adorn the Sun Guards of Thyrsus in their future battles. The Gilgamesh was conceptually birthed in the aftermath of the Liberation Crusade - as the Thyrsian Mercenaries took stock of their reclaimed homeworld, and their methodology on the battlefield. While there was nothing inherently wrong with the Shock Tactics and Lightning Warfare approach to combat, especially on the level often employed by the Thyrsian Sun Guards - there was an element that needed to be improved. An element that would make the Scions of Thyrsus embody the unstoppable juggernauts of legend. This element, of course, was their ageing combat powersuits. Although they were once considered to be the top-of-the-line, their continued presence on the battlefield saw many copycat designs emerge from the shadows. This was something that the Sun Guard couldn’t allow. They were supposed to be the best of the best, and with these mimicked designs falling into the hands of their rivals and opposition? The Sun Guard were on track to becoming obsolete, and swiftly replaced by those that once feared them. Thus, the Gilgamesh was conceptually born.

In the beginning, the technical architects of the newest Thyrsian powersuit utilized the schematics of the armour’s predecessor, the Hoplon. They started with what made the armour effective in the field, and began to expand towards how they could inevitably improve with the next generation. Naturally, this began with the powersuit’s powered functionality. The Hoplon was once a marvel of modern science, as it wove synthetic electro-reactive fibres into the armourweave bodyglove - which was capable of tripling the wearer’s strength. This made the Sun Guard dangerous in melee combat, as not only was their strength augmented beyond that of a normal human being - but their speed as well. Some of their enemies, those that survived their encounter with the Thyrsian Mercenaries at least, likened their speed and ferocity to that of a trained Force Wielder, but clad in heavy plates of armour. However, as more and more survivors began to spread their stories - their technology became more widespread. The Sun Guard soon found themselves pitted against Lesser Foes who were suddenly able to match the Thyrsian’s martial prowess.

Therefore, the first item that needed to be upgraded was the augmentation functionality of the powered armour proper. The Technical architects started this process by looking into the functionalities of Rybcoarse, and explored how it could be improved. While it was capable of being woven into synthetic flesh - there was a glass ceiling that couldn’t be breached when it came weaving the technology into combat armour. However, if Rybcoarse was woven into a synthetic musculature already infused with similar technologies - that glass ceiling simply wouldn’t exist. The sky was quite literally the limit. Therefore, after countless trials and resulting errors, the Thyrsian Artisans managed to perfect the unholy fusion of technologies - making the foundations of the Gilgamesh far outclassed it’s predecessor in terms of augmentation capabilities. So much so - that there were concerns that the Sun Guard’s body wouldn’t be able to handle the stresses of a live-fire exercise, or actual combat scenarios without suffering extreme bodily harm. With the initial prototypes - those concerns became a reality, as several Sun Guard warriors found themselves confined to their Bacta Tanks for several weeks due to their bones snapping under the physical stresses of augmentation.

To counter this, the Thyrsian Artisans incorporated an exoskeleton into the framework of the muscle suit - which consisted of advanced, and micronized servos that were connected by a composite of Nylasteel and Flexisteel. Both of these metallic substances were highly durable and pliable in nature, which made them perfect to supplement the capabilities of the synthetic muscle suit. With both of those materials woven into the artificial musculature, the concerns of the wearer being more of a danger to themselves - rather than their expected opposition - were thankfully resolved. Despite this resolution, there was an ingrained possibility that the suit’s augmentations wouldn’t wholly save the wearer from the physical strains of the armour’s capabilities. Naturally, this occurred during the testing phases where Sun Guard test subjects attempted to flip battle tanks. Sadly, due to the size of the suit, the Gilgamesh wasn’t capable of flipping such heavy vehicles through conventional means. Instead, the wearer would be forced to rock the vehicle until it gained enough momentum to be flipped upright - which may cause considerable damage, design depending. Should the muscle suit find itself buckling under the strain of trying to flip a battle tank for a measured slice of time - the musculature would burst in the most unpleasant of ways. And one could only imagine what would happen to the wearer should such a calamity occur.

Nevertheless, as the armour’s power ceiling was established, the Thyrsian artisan’s took immense pride in the technological terror they constructed. While the Gilgamesh wasn’t capable of flipping heavy vehicles, or even battle tanks - they held the capability of tearing the armour plating from the metallic skeleton instead; essentially stripping their opposition of their primary means of protection. Supposedly, such capabilities transferred to conventional blast doors and shields as well - should their materials not be composed of the incredibly dense alloy known as tungstoid. Such power made the Gilgamesh an absolute nightmare during boarding operations, as disarmed Sun Guards could potentially rip and tear their way through the spinal corridors of a starship - pushing through sealed junctions in direct defiance of their opposition. As anyone could guess, when the wearer’s augmented capabilities were turned onto organic foes - nothing but severed limbs, gore, and steaming piles of viscera would trail in their wake. Such was the power that even the most brutish of creatures who populated the Galaxy would find themselves evenly matched by the technological prowess of the Gilgamesh. It was said that the Sun Guard utilized what remained of their Drael Captives - those that survived the inhumane tests that eventually spawned the Xenophage - to run benchmark tests of their armour’s capabilities.

As the Thyrsian Mercenaries no longer have such bestial prisoners in their possession from their tumultuous encounter on Eshan - such rumours aren’t hard to believe.

What made the foundations of the Gilgamesh truly magnificent, was the inclusion of direct neural and synaptic technology - which wholly eliminated the momentary delay one would experience with lesser suits of powered armour. Through the lessons that the Sun Guard learned from their use of the Hoplon, this direct connection would allow for the wearer to treat their powered armour like a second, or even a third skin. This made for a more fluid form of motion in the chaotic throes of combat, where the wearer could employ their myriad fighting styles without forcing them to account for the armour’s latency. However, such capabilities came at a physical cost - as connective ports needed to be surgically implanted into the wearer’s skin for the full capabilities of their armour to be unlocked. While it was rare, there was still a marginal possibility of the implants being rejected after surgery - which would be an expense that the Sun Guard would be forced to shoulder, alongside the failed aspirant. There was also an ingrained air of apprehension amongst the Initiates - as many of them weren’t fond of undergoing such physical transformations. However, the Sun Guard began ritualizing this concept to weed out the weak from amongst their ranks to ensure only the strong, and the worthy were capable of joining their esteemed ranks.

When it came to the remaining functionalities of the armour’s undersuit, the Gilgamesh was outfitted with an advanced restorative underlay that housed several items that would work in concert with one another to keep the wearer alive. These systems included the automated stim injector - that was preloaded with a small selection of combat stimulants and healing agents, as well as an automated defibrillator - that was designed to restore the water’s normal heartbeat by shocking them with a regulated electric pulse. Forming the outermost layer of the armour - and by extension creating the basis of the Gilgamesh’s protective qualities - the muscle suit was given a composite and interwoven exterior casing. This overlay consisted of an armourweave fabric that was laced with cortosis fibres, which in turn overlaid a micronized metallic and ceramic mesh, as well as the layer of hydrostatic impact gel beneath. With this tri-layered design - and the capabilities of the materials woven together - the base of the powersuit was already a force to be reckoned with. Now, when the external armour plating and systems were added into the equation? The Gilgamesh was nothing short of a walking battle tank that was further outfitted with a host of supplementary weapons and equipment.

While there was little that could be said about the armour plating, there was a curious design feature built into the Gilgamesh. That feature was the aesthetic appearance of the armour - as the Thyrsian artisans believed that there would be elements within the Sun Guard who sought to carry the legacy of the Golden Company forward, after the organization’s dissolution and reformation. To achieve this reminiscent result, the Gilgamesh’s external armour plating wouldn’t be micronized and instead bear a distinct resemblance to the powersuit’s predecessor that made the Sun Guard so feared on the battlefield. This design choice also included the possibility of additional personality being woven into the overall design of the armour; making it all the more unique. For those that choose not to embody the Sun Guard’s legacy as the Golden Company, their armour would be marginally more uniform in appearance - despite whatever personal aesthetic deviations the various Thyrsian Mercenaries devise. Through the technological genius of the Thyrsian artisans - there would be little difference in the protective qualities of the armour, no matter what aesthetic choice was made. The only true deviance between the aptly named NewGen model and the traditional armour scheme were the photoreactive fibres that were baked into the NewGen’s composite armour plating.

This new addition would absorb the light from their surroundings, and change the colour scheme of the armour to match their environment. While there were many Sun Guard’s that decried such a drastic change in colour scheme, there were many that understood the advantages these photoreactive fibres held. Sure, it wasn’t a cloaking device like the recently acquired supply of active camouflage generators, but the addition would be enough to trick the eyes of many sapients across the galaxy. While it wouldn’t fool any specially calibrated or configured technological means of detecting the armour - that moment of hesitation that would come from an organic soldier as they believed their eyes were playing tricks upon themselves, would be all that the Sun Guard needed to claim Victory.

Finally, when speaking of the integrated weapon systems that were mounted onto the Gilgamesh Powersuit - the wearer would find themselves equipped with a veritable armoury that would allow them to adapt, or even control the ebbs and flows of the battlefield. The most notable weapon systems were the one’s found clamped around the forearm sections of the powered armour. These were, of course, the bread and butter of most Mercenaries employed across the galaxy - but elevated to another level. There was a wrist-rocket launcher, with a fibrecord whip attachment, alongside a small housing assembly for miniaturized canisters of dampener aerosol - that could be launched from the magnetic accelerators that formed the wrist-rocket firing mechanism. In addition to those weapon systems on a single gauntlet, the other housed an integrated personal terminal, alongside a plasma disruptor - that could be utilized when attempting to breach security doors, or shocking synthetic or organic opponents in the midst of combat with a powerful burst of electricity. With the addition of knee-plate mounted dart launchers and the ever-favoured mandible flame projectors - a fully armoured Sun Guard would be a fearsome sight to behold on the battlefield.

With the Gilgamesh Powersuit replacing the Hoplon as the primary powered armour of the Sun Guard, the Scions of Thyrsus would once again find themselves at the pinnacle of the pyramid; where they would bask in the glory of their Twinned Suns, the fearful adulation of the conquered and the muted silence of the righteously slain.
